  • Today I am going to show you how to make southern candied yams. I add a secret ingredient to make it super tasty and stand out from the rest!
    💥 Buy my e-book : camirraskitchen.e-junkie.com/ or www.fatfreecartpro.com/i/11dr...
    Ingredients
    3 1/2 - 4 lbs sweet potatoes
    1- 1 1/2 stick butter ( depending on preference)
    1 cup brown sugar
    3/4 cup sugar
    1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp nutmeg
    juice 1/2 lemon ( about 1 1/2 tbsp) If using lemon extract use 1/2 tsp
    1/4 tsp salt
    2 1/2 tbsp vanilla
    1/4 cup rum
    1/2 tbsp fresh grated ginger
    Note: adjust the sweetness to preference. I like medium sweet yams, but if you like very sweet use more sugar. Cook the sugar sauce on a medium low heat, it shouldn't bubble too much. My stove was just acting crazy lol!

    Im so grateful for your recipe/video. I made this yesterday for Thanksgiving and it came out very yummy. Instead of adding powdered cinammon and Barcardi i switched to adding 1 1/2 ounces of Fireball cinammon whisky from a mini-bottle and once all cooked, i poured into a baking dish, placed marshmellows on top and let it bake for 15 minutes to toast. Mamma Mia!!! It was delicious. Officially you’re my go-to recipe forever. Thanks!

    Girl, thank you so much! I was looking for a better candied yam recipe that used fresh yams. This one speaks more my language for candied yams than other recipes. I've been looking for something similar to what Grandma did, and I think it's the sauce being made on the stove top. That feels about right, although I know she did the actual baking of the yams in the oven because they always took forever. Thanks for sharing!

    • @CamirrasKitchen
      @CamirrasKitchen  8 месяцев назад

      Yep you can make the same sauce and then bake them. I only do that when I already have other stuff baking cuz yah it takes a long time

    Another great video though! Great tips too - I made my own egg nog some time ago and the recipe called for nutmeg. I already had the powder version but the recipe called for fresh so I ran out and got some.
    You actually undersold how important grating it fresh truly is - in powder form it’s almost not even the same product!!

    I'm making this tomorrow for thanksgiving. I hope it turns out right. It seems like getting the sweet glaze to thicken is the hardest part.

    • @CamirrasKitchen
      @CamirrasKitchen  8 месяцев назад

      no it will thicken. trust the process! just melt the butter and sugar on a medium low heat,, add the apices and then the yams! I just cook it with the cover off when i need to thicken it. as long as the sugar and butter dont overheat it will cool down to thicken.

      @@CamirrasKitchen thank you so much for the recipe. I just finished my yams and they came out perfect. I made it exactly like you did, with fresh ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, lemon and rum. It's soooo good can't wait to bring it to my Nanas house. You're right, the sauce thickened right up. No need for water
