Archive recording missing the first minute or so where "Fluff" was "caught" at Capital Radio by Eamonn Andrews with the help of Noel Edmonds and Michael Aspel. Large number of guest DJs including Pete Murray, Keith Fordyce, Kid Jensen, Don Moss, Johnnie Walker, Peter Young, Ed Stewart, Roger Scott, Tony Prince, Dave Lee Travis, David Hamilton, Simon Bates, Nicky Cambell, Dave Cash, Tommy Vance, Jimmy Savile, Richard Allinson, Mike Read and Tony Blackburn as well as TV luminary Muriel Young and continuity announcer supremo Redvers Kyle

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, it brought back so many memories. As a DJ Alan Freeman was in a league of his own. Thanks for posting.
Alan Frreeman was the best disc jockey buy a million miles thank god i put all the home tapes onto cd my heart sings every time i hear the guy talk the guy talk and introduce songs hey love but so respectful so wonderful. God bless the Great Alan freeman
Sunday wasn’t Sunday without Alan Freeman and Pick of the Pops on my little transistor radio.
I met him at the Talk of the South nightclub in Southend on Sea in 1972 - he was the nicest person I ever met. So polite and interested. Even today nobody has come close to his top twenty chart rundown. It just can't be bettered. God bless you Alan, a lovely bloke.

Yes, it says a lot that so many DJs wanted to participate.
No one had the charm that Eamonn Andrews brought to this show and made it a smash hit in uk having originally been a US show format .....loved by millions later hosts didn't achieve the same charisma

Wonderful man. I was heartbroken when 'Pick Of The Pops' finished in September 1972.
I remember seeing this episode on Yorkshire Televison while staying with my grandparents. I couldn't remember who the subject was but recognised it from the date- 14/10/1987, the night before The Great Storm. I hadn't realised it was only a few weeks later when Eamonn Andrews sadly passed away.

This is great Fluff was a true gent and a legend. Interesting Eamonn Andrews is looking really unwell here. And his successor Michael Aspel is in the clip too. I miss him as a presenter and one of my earlier impressions going about saying 'This is your loife'
A fitting "This is your life" to another wonderful DJ, the late great Alan "Fluff" Freeman himself who as far as i am concerned was, still is and always will be a legend in my eyes, though obviously not to all the Alan "Fluff" Freeman haters out there who are labelling "Fluff" as some sort of a not so nice man (i won't mention the five or ten letter words that some are describing "Fluff" here on RUclips and other social networks) all of a sudden these past few years or so to this present day. Stuff all the Alan Freeman detesters out there, for if he was this not so nice man, provide your evidence of "Fluff's" wrongdoing (none whatsoever). Exactly no proof whatsoever, as the late great "Fluff" is now dead and cannot defend himself from his grave from these so-called allegations (thankfully low level accusations at present) about the five or ten letter word which i will not address on here that is being used to describe "Fluff", so as to not offend my fellow Alan "Fluff" Freeman lovers (not in a morbid context) and his many still admirers out there, both past, present and future. And if he is this not so nice man, why is "Fluff" still being mentioned and broadcast on the BBC, and not totally erased forever ages ago by the organisation (the BBC) itself. R.I.P. Alan "Fluff" Freeman, total legend, and to me was, still is and always will be a (another) rock to me past, present and future, always !
Fluff has always been amazing DJ to me, takes me back to the early years of Radio 1 in the early 70's, in the 90's many of his shows i taped & his last show on Radio 1 i taped, with the music he played & snippets from other track really set his show apart, I sit hear listening to him on the eve of 2020-2021, what better way to hear the new year in with some proper music. Thank you Fluff. ps, wonderful to see all the DJ's from many moons ago, yes. i remember them all.
Was it his sexuality? Like Dale Winton. Freeman said he was bi, when queried, like Dusty Springfield, but it was a different time, it was still frowned upon.
Alan will always be 'the Governor' to me.
i actually remember watching this back then, fluff was always one of my favorite disc jockeys.
Shame this misses the 'Trap' at the beginning. That was sometimes the best part of the show. But great anyway and thanks for posting.

This must have been one of the last This Is Your Life shows Eamonn Andrews hosted.

Andrews died on 5 November 1987, so this was three weeks and 1 day before, so I guess there were two more (21 Oct, 28 Oct and 4 Nov) that were broadcast by Thames before he died. Ironic that Michael Aspel was on this one on basis of him taking over after Andrews' death.
It was also broadcast on Cliff's 47th birthday. Not sure how long before, it would have been recorded, though.

There were also two more episodes that Eamonn made and were postponed until January 1988.
i know radio 2 but I thought perhaps Jimmy Young and Terry Wogan.could have been there.
The DJs featured were from Freeman's Radio One and Capital days ... the guys he would have best known. JY and TW were weekday jocks on R2, so he would likely have rarely seen them.

David Jacobs would have been appropriate as Fluff took over Pick of the Pops from him. Also, Fluff Freeman, Pete Murry and David Jacobs were the three main DJ presenters back in the early days when it was still the BBC Light Programme. Another omission was John Peel. If you look at the edition when Peel was the subject, there is a terrific warmth when Freeman appears as a guest and there was a huge mutual respect between John Peel and Alan Freeman.

The late great Roger Scott making an appearance if fluff was number 1 then he was certainly number 2 📻⭐️
The episode that was aired on the announcement of eanomn Andrews death. Was jimmy cricket the last one was Jill rosslington of crossroads. He recorded. Roger Scott died the following year of cancer and I finally got to see Richard Allison from capital radio and radio two.
Great show, but it kind of goes sour when Savile walks on.
Interestingly Savile wasn't even present at Freemans funeral.
Ah, another encounter between Michael Aspel and Jimmy Savile. Three times that I know of where they appeared together on This Is Your Life. Remember, Aspel publicly declared that he'd never met Savile.

No surprise there, why was he on anyway? Thought Tom Browne might have been on as Alan mentored him when he took over the Top 20 in 1972.
The body language when various people greeted the subject of show on each edition of TIYL always spoke volumes.
