What's up everyone! thanks for watching this video.
This was a difficult one to share as I talked about certain vulnerable topics I usually don't open up about that easily. Also it was really hard for me to not come across as a spoiled privileged millennial while making this video. I just wanted to share what I have been through in the last 7-8 years... I had dozens of moments where I was about to delete the whole video and just not publish it, as I thought it would do more harm than good. But after reading your comments, I'm so glad that this video was found helpful and inspiring by most of you. Know that you are not alone on this journey and always feel free to share your story in the comments below. I will try to reply to as many as I can.
Also, please don't quit your job tomorrow after watching this video :) The point of the video was to just share the lessons that gave me a different perspective on life and work and that made me decide to quit my job, start traveling the world and focus on building a completely different life. Hopefully it can at least trigger you to start thinking about your own life in a more deliberate way..
I post photos and stories of my journey more frequently on Instagram: instagram.com/stefanovic92 I also try to respond to every DM over there.
    Cheers!

      congrats on your content.
it was very motivating for me
I live here in Brazil where data analysts are apparently not so valued and need to have knowledge of programming and data engineers.
I'm going through financial difficulties, I stayed 2 days to eat, but I got a crowdfunding from some friends to buy food
it seems that many times my studies and technical skills are not enough to meet the demands of companies
thank you very much for the motivation

    What I learned:
    1. People work for 3 reasons: 1) pressure - emotional or financial, 2) purpose - valuing the end result, 3) play - enjoying the process.
    2. Success = doing work that feels like play, fulfills a purpose, and gets you paid.
    3. Do work that compensates you based on the value you create, not on the time you put in.

This is extremely well-said. I totally agree with everything being said here. I am currently a sophomore in college that pretty much lost in what I wanted to do with my life not too long ago. I was told and took lots of tests to see what I should major in and money was a big contribution to that and I chose accounting. The classes were horrible. I hated it and pretty much regretted doing that. After my first semester, I did lots and lots of research to see what I like and I stumbled across Computer science, specifically frontend engineering and it clicked. I was so interested and long-story short. I've learnt everything using the internet and I am very far ahead of my future classes. I decided to take a step and it was worth it. I recommend everyone to do what I did and please do not listen to what others, even your parents, think. It is ultimately your life, do whatever the fuck you want to do. Good luck and I hope everyone finds their why❤️

I have similar experiences. When I was about to start college, my dad suggest accounting as it is typical and consider safe for a girl. I hated the first class in account and stopped. I went for Computer Science because it was popular then. I am currently working in computer field for over a decade+. But my advice to you is, you are still young, only sophomore in college, as you experience life, learn things, and makes mistakes, your view changed. It is good to have a plan now but you have to be flexible and follow your heart. You comment seems you are set and this is it. Nothing is permanent. For example, have your own business is great but huge # of small businesses ran out of business during COVID. Who would guess this happened? We can be on the top of the day and at the bottom the next day.

Everyone should know the two main reasons you have a job:
    1. The company expects to make more money from your work than it cost to employ you.
    2. You want to get paid.
Most people are willfully ignorant and only think about the second reason.

Inspirational content, very well done! However I would like to point out that for a lot of people it is going to be super super hard or maybe even impossible to escape that pressure dimension of reasons to work. There are a lot of environmental aspects that need to be taken into consideration. Some Jobs require equipment, people or physiological conditions that can not be obtained by watching RUclips videos or reading books. Also there will always be important jobs that most people would call "not enjoyable" which don't pay a lot of money either and are still very important. Would be interesting to see what would happen if everyone suddenly would try to become a content creator or something similar tho. Thanks for the video!

This is a very important part on 7:27 when he says that if you are stuck in a 9-5 job, what you do during that time will determine the opportunities. If you don't work hard at least for some time and keep healthy finances, it is hard to quit the job and even have some time to rest and consider other opportunities. In my case I just quit from 7 years at tech support, and doing an effort to climb a few positions and having healthy finances allowed me to have enough savings to do this. Otherwise it is not possible if you have to pay expensive rent and got little to no savings.

Go get to grad school, get tenure at any decent big state school or respected private school (top 100 in your field), then you can be truly permanent. You get to choose your field and specialization when applying for grad school programs and choosing an advisor, from there you can do the research you want as a professor so you really have little reason to not do what you love to do (unless you just hate all forms of research.) It might not be the best pay in every field, but you are lucky enough to be in a field where the pay for professors is respectable and can sustain a family for sure (depending on where you get after your post-doc, you could make anywhere between 200 - 800k a year with three months off of teaching each summer which allows you to really do some very interesting research over the year and then go all in with extra time for family each summer.) Not to mention, good professors in Computer Science will often turn their research in to successful companies (I know a friend who is still teaching two classes a year while focusing on informatics research and he puts out a company every 5-6 years, generally selling after getting past the startup phase. His latest venture was a digital health company built for mobile devices (with the primary focus being health data gathering to improve healthcare of the individuals and the larger population by understanding the data in large quantities) and while I am not allowed to publicly say what it sold for, lets just say think 8 figures (and they never raised any venture capital and instead applied for grants instead like professors do, bringing on a couple more respected professors from his university, each being a expert in their field doing state of the art work.) I just can't help myself from pitching the lifestyle to those looking for the kind of change you are looking for, not enough bright minds innovating and researching in the world right now, everyone is looking for the easy industry payout or looking to make it big with no safety net.

I'm already on this process where I choose the internet over traditional education system and as Elon musk said we can learn anything basically for FREE! After seeing this video I would say that this video inspires and I'm not alone who is learning advance technologies and there are many more around the world and who supposed to in a way of achieving what they play!

Musk has multiple degrees though, and all his engineers have degrees too. So he obviously values formal education and certification in addition to self directed learning.

Both my father and I are being made redundant. As our factory is closing next year. I had been working there only 6years and had other aspirations, so I took the news in good faith that there was more for me out there..my father on the other hand, has been working there almost 30 years...he's almost at the age of retirement yet he has bills etc. This story just speaks volumes to me regarding what we're both going through right now. I'm already redundant, studying full time...seeing a brighter future...my father is there right until the day the factory shuts down, just taking it day by day...I hope I can find something through my studies before he finishes up so that he can have a bit of relief and not rush around and look for a job.. thank you for your video.

I first watched your video about How you would become a data analyst faster if you were to start all over, then it brought me to this one. This was a strong reminder to focus on whats more important. Becoming a data analyst is important, yeah, but it is definitely limiting if that is all i want to be. Thanks for doing this video 1 year ago. I am certain it will inspire and motivate someone in 10, 20 and 30 years to come.

Hey Stefanovic the same thing happened to me, except I was in my 9 to 5 job 18 years before I finally took action. I wrote a book called "In your face 9 to 5" documenting the many different side hustles I tried in a bid to replace my income. Years later I'm certain I made the right choice, and I'm sure you have too. 👍

I'll be graduating the next semester. My early teenager dream was always tech/YT related (own channel etc). I'm in the cyber security industry and have always wondered how life will turn out eventually and I'm happy to say that I have few ideas similar to you, like getting experience and certificates, going freelance in an industry where the demand is high and earning good money and eventually starting a channel or blog. However how do you balance this with your private life? Cooking, working out, spending time with friends/family/gf, social events? Is always something I think about.
