Great video Stef. I would like to share a few words, since for some of you might be useful. I landed my first job as a data analyst a few months before. My previous degree and working experience was irrelevant. I had an "administrative" job, I knew that this was not for me. I started learning python. Your studies fit the role as a data analyst perfectly. Now just try to attract as many data analyst tasks as possible in your role. So even if it's not part of your work, try to analyse data, build reports or dashboards that might help you in your work, or your team or preferably your manager. Try to grow into your role
How did going freelance affect your monthly/yearly income and stuff like your retirement plan? I'm just wondering how switching to freelance stacks up to being a regular employee financially and what other challenges/benefits accompany such a switch.
Hey Rens, well in short it was the best decision ever: yes becoming a freelancer means that employers will expect more from you. To move a bit more quickly and deliver value faster. However, I prioritize other things in life like family, friends & health more than work. So if they pay me for 8 hours, I only work 8 hours etc.. Also being a freelancers gives you a little bit more distance from all the office politics etc.. so you don’t have to deal with end of the year reviews, sucking up to managers etc.. because as long as you do your job correctly they will be satisfied. That’s it. Now financially: best decision ever. Yes you get paid A LOT more then a normal job. But this is also money for your retirement, for your days off, insurance, when you’re sick etc.. but the thing I like is: I have full control over that money. I don’t want my retirement money in some stupid pension fund that will give me 1% ROI in 40 years from now. I want to work on building my own retirement by investing in things I want (crypto, real estate, YT channel) and then retire whenever I want. So you have more control over more money as a freelancer.
