Never knew they made buggies. But I did have a Shumacher nitro stadium truck. It came with a .21 engine. And it was awesome. And 20 years ago. The chassy looked the same but painted a yellow-gold. See ya next time Glen.

The cougar is a nice RC. I found the stock Servo saver rubbish when running, a solid arm makes it steers straight and more precise

Awesome to see some Schumacher 2wd cars Glenn! There was no greater innovator in the industry than Schumacher in my opinion, they really did push the technology available. I’m hoping they re-release the Cougar 2 team. Cheers!

I wonder how RC racing is done now. Back in the day I used to have my own dyno and wind and tune my own motors . We were allowed 6 or 7 cell packs , depending on the track rules for the Amain events . They usually ran 3:30 minutes to 3:50 minutes. I used to buy custom matched cells from sanyo and make my own packs . Some packs I used foam filled cells. In the A main there were weight limits but no restriction on the motors mainly because the hard part was making that 3:30 runtime minimum. My A main motor used to run usually between 25k to 30k rpm . No restriction on brushes . I usually ran advanced cut timing brushes , so I just didn't dig 2 ruts everytime I took off lol . Ball diffs , slipper clutch on a custom cut and modified losi chassis . I ran T Spike tires in reversed on the back in 2wd . My truck was always tuned to run 15 to 20 seconds longer than the race duration. Not much room for mistakes. At that level a mistake would usually lose a race back then tho. I used a Novak receiver and speed control . What would a newer setup run now for an A main contender ? Limits and rules etc.?

Another blast from the RC club past I used to attend on a Thursday night. These were absolute beasts in action and used to fly around, rinsing most of the competition....until folks got hold of the Boss Cat and Lazer ZX. I quite like the boxy body but I also remember most folks had the Alley Cat body shell as well - so kudos on that! The livery you're going for looks great, personally I'd love more pink and less white but either way, it's going to be brilliant.

We regularly ran 13t, 12t and even 11t motors through Schumacher transmissions back in the day. They’re far more capable in standard form than they make out… obviously LiPo batteries have a lot more punch than the old NiMh cells ever did.
Having said that - most guys ditched the ‘integrator’ and fitted aftermarket drum diffs which is basically what the pro- transmission kit is (with the addition of a slipper clutch).

Hi Glenn, glad you are happy with the Tomy motor, better for it to be in the hands of an ardent collector rather than it sit in a box in my garage for another 25 years 😂 So you have finally got hold of a Cougar Classic. You will love this build, though you may encounter a couple of niggles along the way. But it's worth it, it's a brilliant car to build and drive. Mine is fully decked out now with every hop-up available from Schumacher and I have moved the shorty battery mounts to the middle position to balance it better - it really flies and handles beautifully!! Looking forward to your build and running videos 👍

I've just got the standard transmission in my cougar classic in fact its completely standard with a 12t brushed motor and 2s shortie lipo and it's an absolute blast to drive and I've had no issues with the gearbox🤷‍♂️ the upgrade transmission runs more belts (I think) 👍

Absolutely Sven but you’re making the assumption I have that option where I live! I don’t unfortunately, absolutely zero vintage racing that I know of. In fact the closest track is over 1 and a half hours drive from me 🤷🏼‍♂️
