    Careful dude. Putting the word "difficult" in your title means that some talentless assholes will tell you how unimpressive you are. I beg to differ. This was very impressive and I would also classify it as "insanely difficult." I challenge anyone else to do this. After all, they have the music right here. Very nice job.

    • @JacobKollerMusic
      @JacobKollerMusic  7 лет назад +156

      Wes Tolson thanks man. I just put that in the title because this arrangement kicks my ass. It's so hard to play it through with high energy and feeling and still play accurately. Especially the last 1:30. So many people say it's not that hard yet I've never heard any of them try to play it. I'd love to hear someone do it as fast and as clean or cleaner than me. Anyway. Really appreciate the comment!

    • @dresean3725
      @dresean3725 7 лет назад +7

      bun84067 I think what he's trying to say is if you have a deep understanding (and ability to play) Jazz chords/arpeggios/scales/improv then looking at the sheet music is significantly less scary. I have virtually no knowledge of any of this, so therefore the sheet music looks quite terrifying (Even tho I can play the entire original Entertainer piece and added in my own flairs) xD

      I could play it more or less after a couple of weeks of practice but it took me a year of performing and practicing it before I could make it through cleanly at this tempo. Maybe it doesn't look too hard to some people but there are some parts of this arrangement that are really technically challenging to play accurately.

    • @fletchercalderbank8498

    • @JacobKollerMusic
      @JacobKollerMusic  7 лет назад +190

      I've played most of the Beethoven Sonatas when I was in high school and college and it's so hard to compare them to this arrangement but I can assure you this is much more difficult then an easy Beethoven Sonata. There are a lot of techniques in here that aren't in any Beethoven piece like parallel 4th harmony, parallel chromatic triads, odd time signatures, jazz harmony, complex syncopation etc.

    Somehow this arrange crooks the happy, unworried pretty mood of the original into a very violent, contrasted color. Almost like a insane monster contained within the performer, struggling to follow the original harmonics, while enjoying every now and then the tiny oportunities to give his input. I totally loved this piece.

    It doesn't have that upbeat feeling like ragtime songs are supposed to have, but pretty impressive nonetheless!

      KraZboY thanks for the comment. My idea was to take the melodic elements of the piece and rearrange it in a completely different style. I think his song is so catchy and the character of his motives are so strong that it works in a completely different style other than ragtime. Same melody in a completely different light was my intention.

      Jazz and ragtime aren't supposed to sound different.

    • @dillpickle3654

      Sam Eash well you cant necessarily put jazz into a category. It's so broad and expandable that it can relate to any genre of music

    • @sameash3153
      @sameash3153 7 лет назад +5

      Dill Pickle Sure I can.

    • @dillpickle3654
      @dillpickle3654 7 лет назад +15

      Sam Eash well there are many types; of course the stereotypical jazz coming from dominant sevenths like Duke Ellington, some cut-time like Spain, even more "heavier" like Percolator, some like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, and I've even heard of Celtic jazz. Jazz is the broadest genre of music because it is so diverse and laid back. One cannot simply put jazz as a whole into a category.

    Every part of this sort of puts the audience in a whole new ambience or "world" or something, I don't know how to describe it exactly. It's like you take us with you on a journey all around the world, landing in different places, only to unexpectedly start traveling again. It's really fun :) I personally have quite a short attention span, so the variation and unexpected twists and turns are what keep me interested in music. Thanks for uploading!

      Actually, I would have to practice quite a bit in order to play this arrangement as well as Jacob does. I tried an attempt at levity. For me, "Insanely difficult" is a funny expression for a musical piece, as there are difficulties in so many ways. Well, didn't go that well. PS: Marc-André Hamelin is a fantastic pianist. The way he plays Percy Grainger is amazing.
