Thanks for watching my lesson on “Angel From Monthomery” by John Prine/Bonnie Raitt! Be sure to subscribe to my channel for more livestream lessons! Happy learning!
I love your channel. I'm older and working against some disabilities. You are such an awesome teacher and player. Thanks you so much for helping all of us at many levels to learn GREAT songs. If you could teach JUST LIKE THAT, Bonnie Raitt or SEVEN YEAR ACHE, Rosanne Cash, I would be so happy. No one ever does Rosanne Cash songs. She is an amazing song writer. thank you again
More John Prine please , what a great artist !
Another winner Angela, thanks. Do you have "electric guitar strings" on your acoustic? Sure looks, (and sounds), like it. Love to hear any comment you might make regarding this.
2 things.... You're playing my favorite guitar a Martin SC 13-E. it's a beautiful thing isn't it. Also I thank you for a John Prine song. I'm an old slow learner (67 picking up the guitar after a 35 year hiatus) but I'm grinning and excited like I'm back in high school. Thank You.
“But with good conviction.” 😊 I like that. Good direction, thx.
One of of my daughter's favorite songs! You played it well!
Yes easy cords, but I love how you went through the riff, the D cord hammering, the strumming options. The all those extra nuances make it special. Thank you! Very sad song…. Also like how Susan Tedeschi plays it.
My favourite sad song is Fade Into You by Mazzy Star. Tuning in from Toronto.
I'd like to share a "shortcut" to Drop D Tuning I recently came across. It only works if the Capo will be used on the second fret, like you have it for this tutorial. No tuning down of the low E string is needed if one simply covers just the A,D,G,B, & E strings with the capo leaving the low E to ring as an E. Viola, Drop D tuning with capo on 2.
Always adding those little touches that take it to the next level. Great and grateful as always.
Just east of Nashville Waylon Jennings song Rose of paradise glad you're back from Alaska
with my shubb capo, I can capo everything but the low E string and achieve the same thing as doing the drop D and the capo.
This is the correct way like John played it ! Awesome lesson
More John Prine please…🙏 the dude was a national treasure✌️
I've been fortunate enough to see Bonnie a couple of times and John Prine several more, though never together. I missed my chance to see Angela so far, though...so I'm glad to find her here on Saturdays. Great lesson.
Fav Bonnie Rait (John Prine) song!!! Just saw Bonnie do it live this past Spring in ATL! Your version so authentic and true to the original, Angela! Beautiful voice you have too - you gotta sing on more of these! And you gotta come to the ATL! You were awesome in Nashville!
Outstanding player and guitar educator…Bonnie would be proud! Thanks for the great lesson…👏
Thanks for sharing another great lesson, lots of cool inflections that can be used when playing lots of other stuff. Many thanks 🎸🤠👍
My saddest song would be “first fall of snow” by Hank Williams but listen to all genres of music that is good ,classic rock, real country, blue grass etc. and I love the way you teach and the way you break it down thank you Angela !🎸🎼
Ive progressed a lot with your videos.Your amazing! Thank you for your help!
Amazing instructions and playing. Love this song.
Superb lesson! You are truly a great teacher!
VERY COOL! Thanks, from this 60-something noob! Love the demo and explanations!

Bonnie Raitt is an excellent musician ... voice and guitar .. just beautiful
Great lesson and song! Also for beginners. Volume on my Laptop is quite Low. Anyway, love these riff rundowns. Thanks Angela!!
Thank you 😊
This is wonderful! Thank you. My favorite sad song is Sorrow Lives Here sung by Linda Rondstadt
Thanks for this, played this last week at an open mic in standard tuning, I like the drop D with the little run and the intro. Love your sc13 I’m from north central Pennsylvania about 2 hours from the Martin plant. Favorite sad songs Earl Thomas Conley - Holding Her & Loving You, and Pearl Jam-Last Kiss
Would like if you could teach us Crazy on You by Nancy Wilson---- Awesome song
Thank you so much Angela I love your song choices and the appreciate beginner friendly lesson with some riffs that add some beautiful color! Pancho and Lefty sung by Townes Van Zandt is one of my favorite sad songs. I would love your help to learn the intro to Country Road by James Taylor
This is my favorite sad song.
From sacramento here...sad songs - fire and rain (james taylor) & the wreck of the edmund fitzgerald (gordon lightfoot r.i.p). How do you get to carnegie hall? Practice, practice, practice!
Hey Angela, love your lessons. Great work. I wish you could do some Tom Petty lessons like Free Falling. Thanks
Do you have Wicked Game or Ghost Riders in the Sky? Just curious would love to learn those. I love your lessons but some crazy reason I keep on missing your lives. I know they are on Saturdays but I keep missing them I think I caught one them lol. I can still watch the re plays and still learn thank god for the internet.
How low is the action on your guitar today and what strings are you using? Have you ever used flat wound acoustic strings? Thanks
Laguna Hills
Why the capo?
Love your lessons!
I am having such a hard time with the "riff" it just sounds off to me! I have D on the low En using a capo second fret and using the right strings. Not sure why it sounds off....I would love to send a video for feed back!

Angela, I find you make some of the best guitar lessons...however, I also find without the lyrics it's difficult for me to follow along.. even the spoken and not not sung would help me..
Including the lyrics would be a step closer to earning a copyright strike against the channel because lyrics are copyright. These riff rundowns are already borderline because teaching a guitar solo is melodic material therefore very close to copyright strike territory.
Hi. Do you provide tabs?

YOU GOTTA SING IT!
Favorite sad song: Another Lonely Christmas (Prince)
My friends like to jam this song all the time, it is one of their favorites, but their song charts are always a horrible horrible mess (originally printed from some site like ezchords) with pen scratch outs, no meter marks, no tempo mark, all chords x'ed out and rewritten to change to different tuning, etc.; they frequently get lost in the first play-throughs because "oh I can't read my own writing, let me figure out what it is" 🤦♀. Yet they never rewrite their song charts to make a clean copy. I will have to watch this riff rundown later in the week but I bet 100% that this lesson when I go through it, will correct all their mistakes. By the way all these jam friends have been playing for years yet still have this horrible horrible song charting discipline (i.e. no ability to do it correctly). Also by the way, one of them this past week said, "There is no E# . There is no such thing" when I was attempting to teach them intervals of the diatonic scale using the more complex example of key of A# . The legend lives on ! E# is Real !
