But what I would like to know is why do you always make Julie take the lead? It seems to me that a real gentleman would be at the head of the pack protecting everyone behind, just a thought. Anyway as always thank you so much for taking me with you I enjoy it very much, and as always please be safe in everything you do, hope to see you again soon.
Hi Bob. Yes, lots of old graffiti from the 1930s in this one. Julie takes the lead so we all have something, or someone in this case, to look at and give some perspective to the mine and things that we are seeing. You will notice, however, that when things get sketchy or if there are bats or sign of a mountain lion, she will not be in the lead anymore. She will be directly behind me, offering me up as food for the lion or to deflect the bats away from her. Anyway, I think looking at her beats looking at a dark hole through the mountain. Hi Bruce and Jeff. I'm guessing the women were there during the period when the mine was operating, although maybe just visiting versus working. I know some of the women were there on the 4th of July holiday. Maybe they were visiting their men? Thanks for the comments!👍😁
@christopherjq7414 Hi Christopher. It is my understanding that while women played important roles doing a lot of the work in mining camps, they did not do a lot of work underground. I'm guessing that the women who wrote their names here were visiting their men, especially the July 4th visit since it's a holiday. Thanks for the comment!👍😁
so I guess those names were just either of their women friends or wives you said it was very clean but their was also no timber work so they apparently felt that it was very solid
Hi Robert. I'm guessing that you're correct about the women. I know that some were there on the 4th of July holiday. Maybe just visiting to see where their men worked. Also correct, no timbering. The mines in that area must be more stable than most. Thanks for the comment!👍😁
@TheLawDawg We enjoy the history of the mines and the challenge of navigating the workings. They are dangerous, especially if you aren't experienced and prepared enough to mitigate that danger. Hi Bruce and Jeff. I'm guessing the women were there during the period when the mine was operating, although maybe just visiting versus working. I know some of the women were there on the 4th of July holiday. Maybe they were visiting their men? Thanks for the comments!👍😁
I noticed a lot of female names on the walls, we're they're many female miners back then or are those the names of the miners wives and girlfriends?
@christopherjq7414 Hi Christopher. It is my understanding that while women played important roles doing a lot of the work in mining camps, they did not do a lot of work underground. I'm guessing that the women who wrote their names here were visiting their men, especially the July 4th visit since it's a holiday. Thanks for the comment!👍😁
Depression Era mining
@@factchecker9358 That is definitely a possibility. I couldn't find out much on this one. Thanks for commenting!😄
so I guess those names were just either of their women friends or wives you said it was very clean but their was also no timber work so they apparently felt that it was very solid
Hi Robert. I'm guessing that you're correct about the women. I know that some were there on the 4th of July holiday. Maybe just visiting to see where their men worked. Also correct, no timbering. The mines in that area must be more stable than most. Thanks for the comment!👍😁
This is a spectacularly stupid hobby to engage in. Old mine are very dangerous and should not be entered.
@TheLawDawg We enjoy the history of the mines and the challenge of navigating the workings. They are dangerous, especially if you aren't experienced and prepared enough to mitigate that danger. Like a lot of other extreme hobbies, the inherent danger is also part of the appeal. Thanks for your input, Law Dawg.
