Yes, I remember those days, having graduated high school in the late sixties. The fights would happen outside the building and there might be broken noses or jaws, black eyes, occasionally somebody has a knife on them ( back then those were considered the " bad kids ") and more often than not, school personnel would break it up. Yes, there were legal consequences and no, I don't remember serious or life threatening injuries occuring. What has been happening since around the late nineties just wrecks my comprehension.

It will happen more and more as millions of guns enter the market every year. There's over 400 million guns in private hands in a country of just 330 million people. And they are more lethal than ever before.
Who cares about a few kids dying? It is a small cost for the right to carry a gun wherever you go and for teenagers to get their hands on an AR-15. After all, isn't that more important than a child's life?

This is absolutely nuts. Why on earth do our youth feel that the only recourse they have is to commit an act of such extreme violence, or for that matter many of the adults in this country as well. I will be 68 in a couple of weeks and this was an unheard of thing when I was in school. Talking back or speaking to an adult in A disrespectful manner was just something we did not do and the thought of brining a gun to school with the purpose of killing others would have never entered our brains. Guns are not the problem they are just a tool in the wrong hands in an attempt to do harm. The real problem is with the mental health issues taking place not only in Our country but around the world. It’s the lack of good parenting teaching their children morals and values from birth. It’s the lack of consequences for crimes committed. I’m a mom, a retired military veteran and nurse. I also substitute taught for almost 8 years in the public school system. one of the most common replies I’d get when confronting a students bad behavior when informing them their parents would be called was “go ahead they don’t care”,. This is a comment that has always stuck in my head for decades. It saddens me to the core that so many kids today feel the two people on this planet that should care the most their parents don’t. My thoughts and prayers go out to yet another family who’s lost a child and for a child whose life was taken so soon.

@rommelbillman2872 I'm a mom of a 11th grader who is straight A's, does several sports, taking 3 college courses already. And I occasionally sub teach at his school, pre-k thru 12th. As parents, we've worked very hard to raise him to be the wonderful person he's growing into.
I appreciate all u said above, makes complete sense and I've experienced firstgand that apathy from troublemaker students and their parents. I'll never understand why those kids get coddled and remain in regular classes, allowed to continue causing disruptions, when school is a privilege. I think the schools just want the govt funding for those sped kids. The greed and apathy is everywhere. 😔
Just the other day, I was subbing 6th grade. As the class heads out for lunch, I notice a girl lagging behind, fidgeting desperately with the zipper of her backpack that remains in the classroom while at lunch. I ask her what she's doing, and she shows me a padlock and little key (from a diary) and tells me that it won't work bc someone has now broken the zipper the padlock holds secure. I say Why the lock? She says a classmate robbed her of all her stuff in her backpack. Mind u, we live in a small mountain town of maybe 600 people. I was so sad for her. I too was robbed by a teen thief who stole the sentimental and expensive personal jewelry and such that my grandmas had given me. I reported it to law enforcement. Nothing was done. And that teen thief Nancy is still stealing from others. I really felt bad for that little 6th grader. It's probably a friend of hers stealing bc it's accepted here. Just sickening. No one wants to hear the truth. We're all gonna be in emperor's clothes.

Parents - lock up your damn guns and talk with & support your kids positively and responsibly, get them in sports and good activities and keep them busy so they don't have time to think of this stupid, senseless violence.
Someone asked why this is happening? 'Cause they weren't raised like us back in the day. Violent video games, social media, whatever they put in the water since the 90's... Wish someone would figure out exactly what changed back then to set this off and put an end to this...30+ years now this has gone on - it needs to stop. Damn.

Kids are very very clever now. Make it a prison and they'll still get shot in like inmates. Draconian measures never work and always decrease security. Stop blaming the guns! It's not the gun! It's fatherless homes, lack of discipline, and respect toward authority(elders). No consequences on the little stuff in the beginning and it builds from there. The kids nowadays have hurt-feel-ioma and can't take criticism. They need to learn how to rationalize situations and stand up for themselves without killing someone. This is why a 2 parent household is important. In most cases, the government has forced the man out of the home and the Mom is working 2 jobs and can't watch them just to put food on the table, Sad! They get bullied and have no one to bounce situations off of to figure out how to handle situations. 2 brains are better than 1. Then the democrats defend the police, make them the bad guy and kids are told you can't trust the police! Despicable! Who do they turn to? Gangs, social media, TV? TERRIBLE!

Politicians, the NRA, and yes, many parents need to stop acting like they don't see what's happening. The world has become so unsafe at our own will. We like to pretend nothing is wrong it's just a few sick individuals. No, well, today, crazy tomorrow. We're just continuing to allow these things to happen because the politicians, the right, the NRA, and anybody else that feel guns make them who they are or safer won't do the right thing.Guns are not making us safer, because if so why are the bad guys killing the goid guys?

I also grew up around guns, hunting was practically required in my town. We had after school gun safety classes in the cafeteria. My dad never locked up his guns, I could say that it was ok because I was taught to be responsible, but the truth is that I just didn't care about them. One day a woman in town dropped off her two sons, ages 11 and 12, and their 12 year old friend to go hunting together. Somehow one of the brothers accidentally shot and killed the friend. Those kids had to grow up with that guilt, when it was the mom's fault they were out there to begin with. Teaching children to be responsible around guns doesn't negate the need for responsible parenting and proper supervision.

Follows on the heels of the one the other day. Be very aware if you have kids in school, these evil incidents seem to come in clusters. GAWD, what a thing to say. There was a day, the worst that would happen to you if you got in a fight with another kid is a bloody nose, or a head wound if you got in a rock fight or dirt clod fight. Now, you are dead frequently.
I cannot appreciate my childhood enough. Free to come and go to school, never a care. Parents going in and out of the school, no checks, no metal detectors and brining cupcakes to class for a kids birthday party. Never having to fear the police, they were there to help us. I could take off all day, someone in the neighborhood knew where I was and would let my mom know. Leave at 9 in the morning, come home for dinner, sometimes lunch. Go out, on my own, to the local stable and ride all day, no worries.
We had guns in our house, my dad was a competitive target shooter, and skeet shooter. We shot guns from the time we were seven or eight years old, we learned safety, and the guns were put away the ammo was locked away, NOT with the guns and we respected that.
