Like Mark, I sprayed all the rusty areas ( and there were a few) with Fluid Film. It now looks like a new truck should- NO RUST. Quick and simple solution. For the price they charge Ford could do a lot better.
Best surface rust clean/paint job I seen till now. I bought a 2024 in Florida and it got the same surface rust at the same spot not as bad as yours which many told me it’s normal but I want to give it a cosmetic touchup. Do you recommend to give it a wash first or will a good broom sweep to remove dust will be just fine?
For anyone saying this is normal, it ain’t, and it sucks that they have to go to this extent on a brand new truck to remove surface rust. Nice job guys paint looks good👍🏼
I fully and truly agree. This is why (not saying other manufactures dont do this) Ford has gone down the ground. How is it that a brand new 2021 needs this kind of work. You know this is asking for a vehicle recall seeing a truck like this already rust. They should forward this video to Ford top guys so they can see what is wrong with them. I know things go out in time, but a brand new truck is like embarrassing in my book. Great work on that btw was quick and easy I don't know why Ford doesnt do this themselfs...

Appreciate the Video on how to deal with the rust issue,I have a 2022 F-150 Platinum and it has rust on the axle and differential housing. I was going to take the vehicle to a professional but I think you just save me some money by doing it myself.
Great video, loving the channel so far. I’ve been a Sierra owner for the last 15 years but recently had my 16’ totaled out. So being forced into a shitty car market I’ve been exploring different brands. I’ve considered a ram rebel and an f150. GM has a known issue with transmissions and lifters, along with the leaking rear window and third break light, ram has these issues as well. So none of these new $60k plus trucks are without issues, it’s really a roll of the dice if you get a good one or not.
Hi Sam I live up in the Northeast and they don't recommend using undercoating over rusty areas. I had some rusty spots on my 2018 GMC's frame rails. Rustolium also has a spray paint rust converter that's works 👍. I treated my frame rails ran through the winter and no rust bleed through. I am going to check this undercoating out thanks!
Yeah rubberized coatings make things way worse. Salt and moisture get underneath and stay there. The rust will be much more aggressive. I paint with a converter and then keep it all coated with oil or fluid film.
Guys another option is to use a product called Corroseal. It's $16 at Lowe's or Home depot and probably does an equal or better job. Great video as always 🤙🏼

Good job guys! Will be needing a truck within the next few years. Not partial to any brand. What I will be looking at are things like rust, lifter problems, etc. Quality, reliability and price are most important. Whatever brand can live up to these expectations, you will have my business. Hey guys! Another great video! I’ve had my 21 f150 5.0 for a couple weeks now, and I haven’t noticed any rust on my rear end. But I’ll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the video!
It’s completely normal to have that rust on the differential housing, it is cast iron. My new 2001 F-150 was just like this and 20 years later of snowy winter, after winter of treated roads, it is just fine. Surface rust only. Of course other parts of my truck have succumbed, like my rocker panels, but that cast iron housing is not going anywhere. Everyone needs to stop losing their minds about it. It is a non issue.

I’ve had to fully cut out the rears that have insulation that traps moisture. I could go on but I’m sure Ford owners know these troubles all too well. Ford engineers need to insist that the company beef up their paint thickness and/or quality. The amount of money you pay for these trucks nowadays is the price of a small house. Hi Guys, I have a 2022 F150 Lariat edition and I recently noticed that when I press on the brake pedal to start the truck, the pedal goes extremly close to the floor. This is not normal. I took it to the dealer on 12/26 and they are telling me this is how the brake system works and its working as designed. I don't believe that. New England truck owner, just take a paintbrush and brush some 75-140 rear differential oil all over the steel that isn't factory or dealership undercoated. If surface rust has started, rubber coatings will only trap it under there. Rubber sealer coatings are for new steel that hasn't started rusting. Fluid film is ok but doesn't penetrate as well. Seriously, just brush on some rear dif oil and surface rust is a thing of the past. just don't touch anything rubber with it.
My new F150 had a rusty diff right on the lot. I'm not concerned about it. I fluid filmed it when I got home and I will reapply at every oil change(3000-5000 miles). It takes a couple minutes plus it works down into all the small areas paint wont reach. Should I have to do this? No, but its not hard to spray so I can deal with it.
It is cast iron and a non issue. But you know the internet, people aren’t happy unless they are complaining about something and screaming ultimatums. I never knew so many people had mental issues until the internet and social media brought it out.

You make way too much sense
i got the same problem with my 2020
It would take 5 million year to rust thru that diff.
It is cast iron and a non issue. But you know the internet, people aren’t happy unless they are complaining about something and screaming ultimatums.
I never knew so many people had mental issues until the internet and social media brought it out.
@@AJourneyOfYourSoul Right on man.............. couldn't have said it better.
Something like this wont seal in the rust and let it grow even larger?
This compound is very similar to what Ford uses. As long as it can adhere good and you coat it well then you should be good.
Would this be worth putting on my old girl? 104k on the clock and never been out of the state of Michigan. Or do you think I should just leave her alone? All surface rust underneath
I need one of those shirts;)
This dude is wearing sunglasses for eye protection, but no mask for paint lol
Cosmoline!!!
mine is waaaay worse on my 21 from dearborn. the dearborb oines are all real bad
The lift is a nice touch. 💪. Sam are those OSHA approved Oakley's?😎 #TwoCanSam
What lift is that?
@@Jason-pd6jv It's an ATLAS 6000lb lift. This one is model # MR06 which I think is discontinued but there are others like it.
I have A17F150 pretty pretty sad all of the frame rust I have on it every Weld is rusty on the frame rear hitch is rusty rear axle is rusty yes just surface but it really bothers me I'm a young kid and bought this truck on my own spent a lot of money on it and just to see this really bothers me hoping hoping they do something about it at Ford headquarters
Did your battery go dead yet . I didn’t have my zone lighting on per the current message from Ford and mine did. I have 1700 miles on it. According to the F150 forms it’s a common problem.
I haven't had that problem. What is the name of the thread?
@@thesamizer electrical parasite
I have a 2023 F150 powerboost and already had the battery replaced.
Why would a brand new truck have rust already? Especially if you don’t live in a rust area?
It’s about a month later…. Still looking good with no rust? You guys are awesome btw lol.
Everything looks great. We got some fotage of it in a video that will be going out tonight I think. Make sure you check it out.
@@BackroadDriver good stuff. I’ll check it out.
Actually, it will be live Sunday at 6PM.
I did this on my 2012 stang ... It looked even worse
I’m sorry but Ford shoulda took care of it , if they aren’t held accountable they will never fix the issue !
Yeah well they have a history of fighting stuff like this. Very doubtful customers would come out with much on a class action.
Jeremy, we agree but the time to fix the rust is now. Thanks goodness ours wasn’t bad. Some people got hosed.
I’m all fairness, every truck is this way new
Truck comes with a Rust warranty have them do it meaning the dealership…. That’s my two cents
Factory rust warranty is against perforation
Is this true? My brand new 2021 f150 has rust on the diff covers as well. I'm calling the dealership tomorrow
What did they say?@@hello-u2w
@@motiv8d111 they didn't do anything. A steel brush rustoleum primer and black matte paint and it looks great!
@StevenHenein just bought a 2023 tremor 3 weeks ago that was built with a MNF date of DEC 2023. Same thing. Thank you for the tip...will be my weekend project
Prior to spraying it with paint and after wiping it down use rust inhibitor. It will last much longer.
Ford needs to powder coat the axle housing.
I'm already having axel issues and the coating that is on there is peeling off already. 2021 stx w/ 1200 miles
I thought fords were aluminum? Why would it rust?
It looks good now but , rust never sleeps, I used that in a similar situation, weather , heat and getting wet, it will bubble off... Sorry..
