    By this point I believe the offense is designed to mutiple checks every down .but the base formation on that down stays the same .with exception of using motion . It certainly help that Jared is really really good at selling the fake

      "By this point I believe the offense is designed to mutiple checks every down"
      I agree. This is a point that I did not delve into enough in this video. Missed opportunity. Let me think on how I could 'prove' this to viewers or listeners. We're not talking about "RPO" plays post-snap; we're looking at true pre-snap, two calls in the huddle situations. Where Goff and the players on the field have to look for a particular alignment(s) by the Defense, then perhaps alter the play.
      Great comment. I am pinning it.

    The Lions willingness to pressure defenses and go for it leads to an exciting style of football I hope catches on in the league in general. Ya, sometimes too many heart stopping plays but it sure keeps you interested. Thanks for the great analysis.

    I love Gambling Dan Campbells willingness to go for it. I’m okay with the times it doesn’t work out. The Lions wouldn’t have even made it to the NFC Championship had they been playing it safe all year. The unpredictable play calling is a pleasure to witness after years of offensive play calling that a casual fan could predict let alone their opponents.

    I think Goff's growth as a QB, mainly his knowledge is a huge part of why Detroit is able to do so many of the things they do. Campbell frequently talks about him getting the team in the right play. To me, that means there are options with regards to run or pass as well as flipping and then also using all the progression on pas plays. He may not haa e been ready for that in LA ( or McVay) wouldn't allow it because he's a "genius".

    Goff doesn't have things that some elite QB athletes do. He's not a runner, he doesn't have a cannon arm. He's doesn't play super aggressive.
    But he does demand his guys run routes the way they are supposed to (Brady-esque about that), and he can read a defense with the best of them ala Peyton Manning. Hie guys trust and love him as their leader.
    Oh, and he's so calm when everything is going wrong and when the stakes are high. Shades of Montana (Joe Cool).

  • @mattthomas1442
    @mattthomas1442 2 месяца назад +2

    I've been saying this for years and that's you get 4 downs to get a 1st down so you might as well try using them all. Obviously there are certain circumstances where you shouldn't but for the most part I feel teams would be better off having that mindset vs. punting away for "field position" particularly if you have a suspect defense. The fact is when you have the suspect defense majority of the time the opposition has no problem picking up the multiple 1st downs to get them into their side of the field, where you win is how you perform when the field gets short and whether you can hold them to a FG or not. So whether you give them 75 yrds to go if you punt or 50 if you don't the percentages show that more often than not they are gonna end up in the same place regardless so why not use all 4 downs on offense when you have a top 3 line and offense overall?
    Again there are certain situations where this doesn't make sense and there are times where you will get burned but you are going to come out ahead majority of the time and Campbell has proven this with the Lions. He has gained alot more points and wins than he has lost with this approach.

    • @jamesjones6400
      @jamesjones6400 2 месяца назад

      Agree...its all about playing to your teams strengths....if its offense then maybe use all four downs to keep charging down the field....versus just giving the ball back to the opponent to have your defense get slashed. This season; I feel will be more balanced!!

  • @thomhandy
    @thomhandy 2 месяца назад +1

    Love your videos. I learn so much on this channel. I think an underappreciated angle on 4th down execution is the lack of nerves when you go for it consistently. Nobody is freaking out on 4th, because its the normal. Annie Doattle says teams that hardly ever go are gonna freak out more often.

    • @all_22_films
      @all_22_films  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you. Thanks for checking this one out. That is a great point, it's normalized. I can understand that playing a role as well. You can almost see it in Goff on 4th Down sometimes.

    The Lions have finished the top 3 in against the spread records EACH one of Dan Campbell's three seasons in Detroit meaning he's getting most out of his teams.

  • @alrifr5786
    @alrifr5786 2 месяца назад

    I have no idea why people focus on Campbell's descion-making, which were both coin tosses on which way to go. The team collasped in the second half and had nothing to do with 4th down calls. What lost the game:
    1. Two drops by Reynolds, as well as Saint and Jamo also dropping catchable balls.
    2. Fumble by Gibbs
    3. Missed interception which bounced off facemask for SF TD.
    4. Missed tackles.
    The loss is on lack of execution and bad bounces on the part of the Lions.

    True fact: St. Brown can throw the ball 63 yards (at least according to the 2nd 2024 episode of the KILLER Inside the Den 30-minute series that the Lions media staff have been producing since Brad and Dan took over. Five episodes a season, with tons of never-seen footage from key moments. The latest one follows Amon-Ra and his fam as they go to Germany on their yearly trip where Saint runs a football camp. He and his brother Osiris had a competition for longest throw in front of the kids, and they both are, as you might imagine, incredibly strong arms, lol. ruclips.net/video/ymZBEe6n-yg/видео.htmlsi=OX9udPjrLbvd6Uzd&t=1425)

    I don't know, but on that one play against San Francisco where Gibbs is lined up to the right of golf why would San Francisco think that he's going to run that direction when you have five Defenders standing in front of him, all the players on both sides are right up and tight, doesn't make sense, and second of all why would they leave barely any Defenders in the bottom? The whole defensive lineup does not look right anywhere near where it should be there's no way gives is running to the right side he's only going to go through the center or bottom left this play to me just so odd, almost looks completely choreographed. Call me crazy. Lol.
