1. The first thing you must do, regardless of the brand of transmitter is assign a 3-position switch to channel 7 or higher, if possible. This will let you use all 6 channels of an AR630, AR631, or AR637T(A). 2. To be able to unlock a BNF receiver, you must flash it with the latest firmware. 3. The latest Forward Programming LUA script will allow you to set up a Smart AS3X/SAFE receiver. You no longer need a Spektrum transmitter. 4. The transmitter must be in high rates (100% travel) when you toggle the flight mode switch 5 times (each way) while holding the sticks down and toward each other. 5. The TX16S mode must be set to “DSM X 2F” and “Enable max. throw” must be unchecked. 6. You can disable AS3X in one or more switch positions if a BNF receiver has been unlocked. However, if SAFE is enabled, AS3X should also be enabled.
Thank you, @txkflier. I have been thinking of leaving my DX6e and getting a Radiomaster TX16S II, as I am not in the mood for spending $550 on an NX10.
How would you disable AS3X on a TX16s, can you please elaborate? Furthermore what is it that allows the rx to know that the safe and AS3X functions are assigned to channel 7 etc?
@@TakeItRC If you don’t want AS3X in one of the flight modes, all you have to do is set the AS3X gains to zero. It’s been that way ever since the AR636 was released several years ago. If you have one of the newer Smart AS3X/SAFE receivers, you can turn AS3X off in the SAFE Select menu or you can upgrade the firmware and you can turn the AS3X gain down to zero in one of the flight modes. And if you do a Factory Reset, the gyro will be turned off completely until you reprogram it.

Hey i was wondering if you were using edgetx or opentx also how do download sensors i am using a ar637t receiver with edgetx and when I go to telemetry and click discover new nothing comes up do you have any suggestions thanks for any info
If you install the forward programming on your TX16S for spektrum you can activate safe on a brand new (or old) receiver and do a lot more stuff. I also updated to Edgetx.
I bought the SPECTRUM SPMA3065 and used to program a brand new AR360. I downloaded the preset model I wanted to the receiver. I am now flying my PHEONIX 1600 glider.
I have several BNF Horizon airplanes and don't own a Spektrum transmitter. I have safe and as3x enabled on all of them. What I've found is that for some planes I've had to set the reverse on some channels for the control surfaces. This means you might need to hold one of the sticks to the outside instead of inside when setting the switch for safe and as3x.
I just got a E-Flite Viper 90mm and on my TX16S AS3X is always on but I can turn SAFE ON/OFF. But now I have to figure out how to make the EDF reverse. I did program the AVIAN ESC via my DX9 so that reversing is enabled. I not a hardcore EdgeTX programmer but my idea is to use the momentary switch to reverse the EDF. Thank you for your above comment - when I hold one of the stick in the opposite direction (to the left) if enabled the switch - and that is on a AR637T. THANKS!
On the Avian ESCs I use the Spektrum ESC programmer. The EdgeTX radio can't directly program Avian ESCs other than stick commands. There is a new LUA script for Forward Programming that will let you program Spektrum receivers.
Maybe silly question guys....,Where do get the latest Spektrum?? Lua script from for to put onto my Radiomaster TX16S Max ( so I can Forward Programme/ set up an AR637T ( non bnf) I bought recently?🤔
Someone should make a video of themselves using Edge TX and the $pektrum forward programing Lua to unlock and progam these A$3X and $afe receivers from $pektrum.
Absolutely. I have a bunch of bind and fly planes on my radio master. You may need to initiate the model with the receiver with a Spektrum radio in order for both safe and as3x to work at the same time. I have a video about that.
Very nice , thanks but if you allow me : too much words !!! You can explain this much easily via some drawings / diagram. Nevertheless I got your point and thank you ...
Have you tried your switch assignment, Safe is Aux 2, with the switch assigned to Aux 2 then bound it to the Radiomaster. I use Spectrum transmitters but my son is thinking about the TX 12 MKII instead of an 8 channel Spektrum. He wants safe but on a DX 6e he can’t do flaps, gear and assign Aux 2 so he needs at least a 7 channel transmitter. Thoughts??
The Radiomaster TX12 Mk11 is only available in CC2500 single radio chip, or ELRS versions. To bind to Spektrum you will need a 4-in-1 Multi Protocol Module (or a Spektrum Module) in the back JR bay.
i tried what the other guy said for 2 hours last night it didnt work.the sticks in differant spots...do exactly what i said and it will work.i just undid it all and rebound it and did it all again.
I've done everything u mentioned it did the 2 flicks on the surfaces to get safe allocated a switch did stickers to centre but I'm still in as3x any ideas
Why can’t it turn AS3X off? My spectrum txt can use 3 way switch , mode1 is off(no as3x no safe) mode 2 as3x on, no safe. Mode 3 safe only. Are you saying I won’t be able to do this with the Taranis?
When 1st initiating the Spektrum reciever can you do it with the controller that comes with the rtf kits or it needs to be the DX controllers? Also do you use a dual rate switch in conjunction with the as3x flight modes?
Never tried a RTF radio before. You need a 2 or 3 position switch to select between SAFE and AS3X. If you didn’t need safe you can just bind it without SAFE enabled and then you don’t need a switch, AS3X would just always be on (you can’t disable AS3X , only SAFE)
No I set channel 5 for the different flight modes. However apparently the spectrum receivers need to be initialized with a spectrum transmitter in order to enable all the different flight modes before you can find it to your radiomaster properly. If it is a used model it may already have been initialized and then you can bind it right up to the radio master and use all the flight modes at the same time
Unfortunately I have to hang on to my Spektrum TX for setup on their receivers... that 300 bucks would be nice for a new plane... Edit: Edge TX supports the lua script for DSM forward programming on HORUS style tx's now so bye-bye Spektrum! 😁
