Hi. I was the one who kicked off the billboard trend. It started when one of my mutuals saw a tweet of a clip from a billboard video of a Garfield FNF mod and they jokingly said “Imagine” and put the video in their tweet. Afterwards I promised when I had the money, I would fulfill their wish and so many people hyped me up. Never in a million years did I ever expect sooo many people to follow up with their own images/memes. I’ve been in the fandom for nearly 6 years now and seeing how many people came together to laugh and celebrate this series warms my heart. I’ve gained such a massive following after this and the Olimar pfp trend that I also coincidentally started and I want to say that I wouldn’t be here without the love and support from you all. I also want to personally thank r/Pikmin for also keeping the billboard trend going, those guys also deserve a small bit of credit. To all people considering getting into the Pikmin series, do so. This game has changed the lives of mine and so many others, and has gotten me through the most challenging times in my life. If you’re not sure where to start, the first game is the choice. You can also watch Chuggaconnroy’s playthroughs. I am so proud of my community for sharing the same sense of humor as myself, for being silly and funny, and for supporting eachother through tough times. Pikmin 4 is nearly 2 days away and we’ve waited so long for something that finally happened, which is just a surreal experience. So, thank you all..not for the trends, but for just being yourselves and for supporting me. I’m also so glad this trend has made so many people smile and laugh and come together, it brings a tear to my eye sometimes, especially when people have told me I was the reason they got into the series. So, thank you all so so much once again. Remember that without you guys, I probably wouldn’t be here. Love you guys. 💛

Honestly quality >>> quantity. I'd rather wait 10 years for a game than 1, if it pretty much confirms that the 10-year game will be good, or at least much better than the 1-year game.
I mean at this point the only new content we’ve gotten in the past 10 years is [B]ikmin 269, where you play as Scoob trying to collect NFTs. Not exactly the most conducive environment for keeping your sanity.
Thats the idea, build up the anxiety and make the fans anxiously wait for it and get that explosion of launch game sales. They're giving pikmin 4 the tears ofthe kingdom affect.

@@droopy_eyesYeah, but the reason it takes 10 years for Pikmin games to come out is because they underperform each time. Until Pikmin 3 deluxe became the most bought game with 2 million copies sold, Pikmin 1 was the highest with around 1.2 million copies sold, and that number was going down with each release. The main reason Nintendo kept Pikmin around is because it’s Miyamoto’s baby and he still sees potential in the series, and they know how passionate the fans are for Pikmin.

The fact that Pikmin is starting to get the attention it deserves is so nice! this game was one of my child hood favourite games and of recent I re-visited the game after getting my Wii back up and running truly a brilliant franchise and I'm looking foward to the 4th instalment of the franchise.

Fun Fact: Inside the game files of Pikmin (2001) is an almost fully functional PC version of the game that was most likely used for debugging purposes.
Imagine if Nintendo has more loose DRM and copyright system, they could simply make more $$$ by releasing any of their games on PC and other console officially

@@sihamhamda47 Possibly. And I agree it would be awesome to play Nintendo games on PC. But Nintendo sells their console at a profit unlike Sony and Microsoft. They make about $40 profit on every Switch sold if I'm not mistaken. They've sold over 125 million Switches so far. Considering exclusive IP is one of the biggest reasons to buy a Nintendo console, especially as an adult, they would be losing a lot of money by removing that exclusivity. It sucks, and it's possible they would make even more money by releasing on PC, but they may have a "1 in the hand is better than 2 in the bush" mentality since they're making a lot of money right now. If they released on PC, it would be difficult to undo if it doesn't work out financially.

Pikmin fan here, I hope this takeover helps to introduce new players to our beloved series. The more the merrier! Pikmin 3 Deluxe also has a demo available at the moment for those interested.
I wish the physical copy of Pikmin 1+2 was available now because I really want to play them first but don’t want to turn down a physical copy.

10 years ago, Miyamoto said that Pikmin 4 was nearly finished. This then, us fans have progressively become more and more feral knowing that Pikmin 4 will surely happen eventually, and I love how the actual announcement of the title has only elevated the rabidity. I genuinely cannot think of another community that has the potential to be this unhinged and I am very much here for it. At this point the actual release of Pikmin 4 is just a nice bonus.
The thing I love about LIMC the most is how much knowledge and respect he pays toward the topics he makes videos on. LIMC is like Behind The Meme but INFINITELY better in EVERY consivable way, and as a HUGE Pikmin fan myself, I most definitely approve :)

It's definitely worth it.
Any lore the series has sort of gets covered in all of the games one way or another, so you can play the first three in mostly any order you want.
I would recommend playing 3 first because it's beginner-friendly, but if you're not worried about difficulty and want to play in order, 1 is a great start.
(Pikmin 2 is sort of just... there. Play it before or after 4 if you want, it doesn't make a difference.)
I’m so freaking glad Pikmin is getting more attention. Pikmin was one of my favorite games on my first console, but I didn’t have any friends who really knew about it. Now that it’s almost everywhere, it makes me happy.
The moment r/Pikmin found out that a billboard advertisement was only $40 was the moment 200 thousand Pikmin ads were deployed with well over a million more on the way.

If this isn’t a testament to the tenacity of us Pikmin fans as well as the quality of the series, I don’t know what is. Seriously, though, if you have a switch, try the demo for Pikmin 4 and see if it’s your thing. People wouldn’t be paying thousands of dollars to advertise the game if it wasn’t good.

It didnt come out of nowhere. It always was a good series but it simply wasnt able to get the attention it deserves because it only ever launched on consoles that didnt sell well (the first 2 games launched kn the gamecube and the third one launched on the wii-u). The first 2 games did recieve ports to the wii, but i dint think the gamecube ports on wii ever did well either so theres that. With the switch being one of nintendos most sold console pikmin was finally able to get the attention it always deserved

I’m glad they added Fiddlebert to the NY port of Pikmin 1. It’s really a shame they took him out of later releases of the original game.

21 July 2023 will be a day to remember!
At one point, the Times Square billboards hosted celebratory birthday tributes to Vtubers, especially Hololive ones, so I'm pretty sure the employees were used to showing "weird" stuff that are being paid to shown.
At the very least, the hololive talents like Kiara, Ina, and Kronii were supportive of the birthday tributes to Ina and Kronii that fans put up.
This is definitely more bizzare and I fucking love it.

Further context for “Dandori Issue” for those curious:
One of the most important skills to master in Pikmin is time management. Every Pikmin game runs on a system of short (roughly 13-18 minutes depending on the game) Days wherein players must complete their tasks and make progress through the game. Pikmin 1 and 3 go further by placing a limit on the number of days you have - a hard 30 day limit in 1 and a limit that increases as you get collectables in 3. Early in Pikmin 4’s promotion, the creator of the series, Shigeru Miyamoto, described this skillset with the Japanese word “Dandori,” which is defined by Nintendo as the ability to “organize tasks strategically and working effectively to execute plans”. You need decent Dandori skills to succeed in any Pikmin game, be it a relatively easy one like 3 or a more brutal one like 2. Pikmin 4 brings Dandori into the vocabulary used in the game, and it’s mentioned by allies and enemies alike. Pikmin 4 put a word to the EXACT skill you need to succeed in Pikmin, and without it you’ll struggle. Hence “Dandori Issue” being applied to Pikmin related struggles, even if not directly related to time management.
