I've seen a LOT of Nintendo fans collectively saying "Nintendo has the chance to do the funniest sh1t ever" and i couldn't agree more. If they drop the Switch's succesor for $400 or less, Nintendo automatically wins this generation.

EDIT: Too many people in this thread are misunderstanding basic maths. The VAT in britain is 20%. If you add 20% to $700, you get $840. You might notice that $840 is significantly lower than $914.26. Please stop telling me how "the difference is made up by VAT" or other taxes. You are simply parroting a talking point without doing the slightest bit of research. It's literally just 700*1.2.

The price is approaching to the point of uselessness. A console is meant to be a cheap alternative to a computer with limited features. And now, that price is approaching how much computers are and is a still limited. The regional prices too in other countries are such a scam, where theyre charging like 800 euros for the basic console which is nearly 900 USD. I saw many people trying to praise the Playstation 5 Pro for its terabytes, even though thats completely irrelevant to graphical performance. I don't see those people praising it now
You are correct. With the price getting more and more closer to PC's, consoles will not last much on the market. I would say we have 2 generations of consoles left until they become obsolete. Xbox is already playing the long game with Game Pass (if it survives), PS5 doesn't offer anything new and their exclusives just get ported to PC. Nintendo has all of the exclusives and that's their strong point but they will lack power against handheld PC's.
The terabytes are the bare minimum for the games being created today too so it isn’t even that big :(
Consoles are only cheaper compared to high-end PCs that are constantly upgraded. The average mid-range PC will have a higher up-front cost than a console, but it evens out with reasonable upgrades every few years. I built a PC in 2012 for about $1k, then over the next decade+ only spent money on a few upgrades (a GTX 970 and some hard drives) - that sucker lasted through THREE console generations before I had to build a new one from the ground up.
Consoles had a place once - some consoles were the optimal architecture for arcade ports, and gaming rigs were absurdly expensive. Now they're just overpriced electric bricks aimed at the inept and lazy.

Sure, the Deck has more points to it's favor, but the ROG Ally is far from shit. These handhelds are just the beginning, we have to give them more time, but so far they are promising and from my point of view, they are a big part of the future of gaming, both Linux and Windows.
Everyone loves to hate Nintendo, but they are the only triple-A dev and console manufacturer that actually still prioritizes good and fun games, and makes their consoles interesting and don't do the microtransaction lootbox bs.

And it doesn't have backwards compatibility with things before the PS3 or a lot of PS4 games, so even the idea of buying that to enjoy older games is out of the question, especially if you bought them as a disc and didn't spend the extra $100 on a disk drive

That's not including mods, emulation, Game Pass and tons of different and more importantly, cheaper ways to buy your games and play them the way you want and well:

A lot of Nintendo's business decisions are questionable, and the Switch is definitely underpowered, but considering it's a portable system with hardware from 2015 it has some of the best games of this generation and it's the cheapest console available that still reads physical media. You might not like it and that's okay, but there's a reason why it has a higher attachment rate and moves more sales than the PS5 and Xbox even 7 years after it came out, people genuinely like it.

In turkey; You have to work like 4 to 5 MONTHS to get one; and this one does not includes disc driver, controller, games that for some reason more overpriced than outside world, stand, and you must work without paying accomudation, food or something else. This is crazy. Funnier part is, with this price you can get a fairly high end gaming pc with some humble equipment.
Nintendo was watching that PS5 pro reveal knowing that they're going to make bank on their next underpowered tablet.

@Joshpods Sure, maybe for older games, but considering most newer games require constant updates and bug fixes it's easier to just buy them cheap on Steam seasonal discounts (most games get discounted after few months to a year from release).
I got a PlayStation five that is custom built with an SSD drive up to 8 TB and a gaming PC high-end. I still play PlayStation and PC.

@@brianwalsh1339 I meant out of the two home consoles. If we include Switch, Steam Deck, etc, yeah one has clearly won by a landslide. The Switch has been Nintendos best generation in possibly decades, I feel like in terms of the games and their quality, it might be their best relative to the time since the SNES / NES. Every franchise is at its peak, and personally I couldn’t be happier. We’re 7 years in and its still not over haha.
The Steam Deck has done really well too, far exceeding most peoples expectations. I think it will be an early example of gamings future - eventually consoles will just stop being mainstream. Hardware will eventually become so good and cheap, that theres no point in not making a device that can do everything. I don’t think we will be there until another 10 - 20 years at least though.

Hey! Ps5 user here! The New gen is just a dream. Barely any games have 120Fps.. basically ps4 experience
Buy a VR headset (with or even w/o PC), which is almost half that price. Believe me, try it!, you won't regret it, it will be a way cooler experience to finally be able to play while *inside* the game. You won't want to go back to flatscreen games ever again.

Vr is a really cool thing to experience. I’d suggest playing vertigo remastered and vertigo 2. Both are incredible

@@BigBossZUCO sure, if you’re price sensitive PCs can make more sense. I’m less price sensitive and more focused on convenience. I like my PS5 and I like the experience of using it on my couch. $700 seems like a fair price to me given that the value of money has dropped so much.
No disc drive is crazy. Discs are the whole reason to get consoles and they expect you to spend another 80$ for that feature.
