I totally agree with you. When I first bought this CD I listened to it one time from start to finish and I thought it was horrible. I threw it in the drawer and didn't touch it for years. Then I found it again and listened to it again, and again, and again. It's now one of my top as well. I guess I was thinking it would be more "proggy" then their other stuff.
I saw the tour with Primus opening...Primus was amazing, but Rush was kinda boring. (I was also with my future ex wife, that didn't help, lol.) However, many years later I saw them again & it was a great show, & they played for almost 3 hours.

Never figured I'd see anything from this LP on ANY reaction channel...kinda made my day. On another note, and just throwing it out there, "Witch Hunt" and, if you're into the Space Program, "Countdown" are a couple of kinda obscure cuts you'd probably enjoy. I've also been waiting for some of their first LP to start popping up. No matter what anyone says, that album is heavy as hell...considering the state of music when it came out. The early KISS stuff is nasty as well...
This is one of my absolute favorite Rush songs and that is saying a lot. The way the song develops and the musical builds and harmonies are outstanding. The way Alex's guitar fades out at the end is beautiful, I always picture an eagle flying over a snow capped mountain on a clear day when I hear it!
So many people are discovering Rush and feel exactly like you do. There's nothing now, nor then, that's anything like them. Neil's lyrics are mind blowing and Geddy sings them in the exact way they should be sung. Alex is a god, of course. They are a perfect trifecta. It brings me so much happiness to see them loved and appreciated by another generation, as much as we did throughout their journey from the beginning. 💙
Presto has been my goto album lately, the lyrics and music are just incredible, but then every Rush album is so it's no surprise, but they have really held me in thrall lately!!
alex is one of my favorite guitar player. he has an unmistakable signature sound on the guitar. one of alex influence on the guitar is steve hackett. check the song riding the colossus. you will hear and feel steve influence on alex in his playing. another guy with incredible guitar playing influenced by both alex lifeson and steve hackett is douglas A ott from the band enchant. check the song broken waves from the band enchant for a guitar solos that will pierce your heart. i sincerely believe that alex lifeson most heart touching guitar solo is from the rush song you bet your life.
Presto is one of my favorites. Very deep & different than their norm. Thanks for reacting. I've seen people request songs from Clockwork Angels. But I always recommend listening to the whole album, start to finish, with the album booklet. Would be awesome to get a reaction of that whole album & see how you feel about it by the end.
Another great reaction. Rush is my favorite band. Started listening to them in the late 70’s and you’re 💯 right. They did make music that change your life.
This guy “gets” it. Not everyone gets Rush. It’s a very unique and acquired vibration which some just can’t connect with. But for those who do…this band will change your life, as you said.
A great tune from a great ( often dismissed) album !! Check out Show Don't Tell, Available light from this album. And ,,,,,,,Ghost of a chance from Roll the Bones . You're right,, Rush music has feel and emotion 😀👍🏻
And to think there are those of us out here who have been with them from the start. I for one have been a fan since the release of their first album. My first concert was when they were the opening act for Nazareth in 1975. 32 shows later i saw their last show ever at the Los Angeles Forum August 1st 2015.
A great tune off an awesome release!! I was pissed they didn't play this on tour that year...I brought 4 glow sticks and was going to throw them up high at a very specific point in the song - at 2:41 of this reaction video. You gotta do a reaction/lyrical breakdown for the Rush song "Trees." It is POETRY! And has a message that's still very much relevant today! If no one requests it, I will next time...🤘😁
I would argue that the Trees has TWO different meanings, depending on how you read into it (and as my personal politics have changed as I aged, it still resonates to me, just in a different way now). That's beautiful writing, when there is evidence for multiple different, complex readings of a text.
Rush is one of the greatest bands of all time . R.I.P Neil . I have seen them live twice. They were incredible! There will l never be another band of this magnitude. 40 years together. Incredible musicians. Could you please react to Virtuality off the album Test For Echo! Welcome to the best fan base ever! You could never overload us with Rush.
Totally agree with you Alex is highly underrated as a guitarist. He often is over shadowed by the rhythm section of Geddy and Neil but if you listen closeLy he does a lot of little accents and chordal playing during the verses that add so much to the song. He really shines on his solos and has a very distinctive sound that when you hear it you know it’s Alex playing.
I have to say, working man is not overlooked. At all. It's one of the 5 or 6 tracks that play on the radio, which is rare to begin with, I'll grant you that.
I am so glad they finally decided to play this song live on the Snakes and Arrows tour. I really don't know why they did not play it on the Presto tour.
