      It was far from impossible. Obviously his followers were able to find him; he was all over news and magazines. If Jenny wanted to talk to him, he wasn't a hard man to find. She could have even contacted Dan - whom she had to know of - to use his resources to get the message. Or send a letter while he was running so it was there when he returned. There were plenty of opportunities, cell phones weren't necessary.

    • @DocMicrowave
      @DocMicrowave 27 дней назад +1

      @@stang5755 Add to that, it was just ONE letter she sent. Literally the first time she reached out to him. He did not come home to a pile of old letters waiting for him.
      Also, she could have tried to contact him through the Buba Gump company or Lt. Dan. Surely they would have had a better chance of getting the message to him.

    • @isabeljimenez6067
      @isabeljimenez6067 15 дней назад +2

      @DocMicrowave let's unpack your straw grasping.
      1) You have no idea if he came home to a pile of letters. What he came home to is never shown in the movie.
      2) If she had tried to track him down via Bubba Gump, you'd be crying about her wanting his money.
      3) Jenny had bigger fish to fry. Overcoming her personal demons, getting work, and a place to live all while being pregnant. As an old woman, I can tell you that surviving as an unwed mother in the late 70s/ early 80s was not as easy as today. Society would have viewed her as a loose woman and not have been very kind or accepting.
      4) I love how all the people in this thread are so hypocritical. Not a single one of you would get in a relationship, much less marry a mentally challenged person because they were nice to you. She didn't owe Forrest anything. He's the one who fantasized about a relationship that never existed.
      5) You totally miss the point of the story. The movie is about running and playing with the cards you are dealt. Forrest ran to move forward, and Jenny ran to escape.
      He was raised by a loving, supportive mother while she was raised by a drunken pedo. She loved Forrest very much, and it was that love that kept her pushing him away. She never, up till the very end, saw herself as worthy of anything good or decent.
      If we are honest, Forrest was the one incapable of empathy. He wanted her, and his desires never once had him thinking about her trauma. She, on the other hand, did nothing but think about how she could hurt him.

    • @DocMicrowave
      @DocMicrowave 15 дней назад

      @@isabeljimenez6067 I think my straws are bigger than yours.
      I understand what the story is generally trying to convey and I appreciated it for that. That's why this is one of my favorite movies.
      But getting down to the nitty gritty:
      1> It did not have to be shown that he did or did not come home to a pile of letters. It was clear that that one letter he was handed from Jenny was the first and only one he had received and that she sent.
      And when he met her, he only mentioned that letter. No others.
      2> "you'd be crying about her wanting his money." No, it would have shown that she at least tried over time to try and reach him. Not out of the blue when she knew her time was limited. And I never said anything about her wanting just his money. If all that was ever of interest to her, should would have been all over him as soon as she found out he was rolling in cash.
      3> "Jenny had bigger fish to fry". Fair to say. And I do know something about growing up in the 70/80s in similar conditions. It is not easy. But not totally hopeless. As I'm sure you can attest to.
      4> "She didn't owe Forrest anything." I beg to differ. If for nothing else, Forrest deserved to know he had a son. I believe that is fair in whatever generation or era you look at. Though I get that there will always always be some who think otherwise.
      5> As for your last statement, I am puzzled and don't agree.
      "Forrest was the one incapable of empathy"? Far from it. He did his best to understand and empathy with others, and in some cases exceeded his efforts.
      "She, on the other hand, did nothing but think about how she could hurt him." That statement is puzzling and a bit surprising.
      It was NEVER shown or implied that she wanted to intentionally hurt Forrest. Or go out of her way to do so. Why would she? Forrest was her safety net. Her safe place. She was never going to try and destroy that.
      She didn't want to destroy him with her problems. Which is why she never told him about all the things she had been through.
      Kinda hoping that last statement was a typo on your part. If not, well that might explain some of your views on the matter.

      Also she wouldn't mature emotionally overnight. Discovering that she is pregnant would have gotten her to start getting clean if not already and stay clean. Also beginning to straighten up her life to take care of her future child would take time and effort. By the time she got her life in order to get her mind better, he had been running for a year or longer. I can not believe how so many of these people who watched the entire movie did not realize that Forrest had been running across the U.S. for over 3 years after Forrest Jr. was conceived and born. In the 1970's and early 80's there were no cell phones and internet. If you want to be a "reactor" to movies learn at least a bit of the history that was going on during the time period of the movie. Every time I hear someone say "didn't Jenny think Forrest might want to know he had a son"...but no one ever says anything about Jenny cleaning up her act, having a baby and raising him by herself while keeping a scrapbook about Forrest to share with her son about his father...then notifying Forrest that she wanted to meet her when she found out he was done running...Read between the Lines that are laid out in this film. It fits with the reality that existed during that time period.

    I am totally amazed at how judgemental these reactors are about Jenny. Can't they see that she is the most tragic and f*cked up character in the whole movie. She was sexually abused by her father and had ZERO self-esteem. The point of the whole movie was that a challenged person was in some ways protected from life's slings and arrows with his innocence and purity.

    • @trevellyann
      @trevellyann 19 дней назад

      It's something that really irks me. She was sexually abused, and like so many people who have that happen to them (even nowadays), she turned to drugs and abusive relationships. At the time, there was no such thing as rehab, or therapy - in the 60s-70s, 'therapy' was only available if you were rich, and it mostly consisted of doctors pumping you so full of valium that you were a vegetable, and mental asylums abused patients with barbaric 'treatments' that made their problems worse, and they usually died there. The fact that she was able to get sober and pull herself together at all, considering her circumstances, was a miracle.
      And of course the prevailing attitude so many seem to have that Jenny being with anyone else was an offense. And that Forrest 'deserved' to have her, because he wanted her, by virtue of him being kind and generous. Forrest was, as a character, an incredibly kind person, but no one is entitled to love and sex because of how kind they are.

    Everyone always gets annoyed with Jenny for not telling Forrest about his son. Apparently everyone forgot that right after Jenny left the last time, Forrest went on a little jog. A jog that would go on for over 3 years. During that time, Forrest wasn't exactly accessible. Now there was still a good few years after he was done running, but by that time, Jenny had worked on getting her life back, and raising little Forrest, and she got into a routine. And sure, Jenny didn't send Forrest a letter until she was diagnosed with AIDS, and that was kind of shitty. But no one ever accused Jenny of being a perfect angel. It still amazes how grossly misunderstood Jenny's character is to this day. Jenny was an extremely damaged and broken woman. The abuse she endured in her early years caused her immense self hatred and a belief she was unworthy of love. This type of trauma can cause severe psychological effects on people, which explains her behavior the entire film. When she ran into Forrest, she realized he was the first person to really care about her in a way she had never experienced. To any of us, this seems great, but Jenny also knew that Forrest was very innocent due to his deficiency, and the whole movie, was not only trying protect him from herself, but she also did not think she was worthy of him.
    She did love him, but due to her own trauma, she didn't believe she was worth being loved by him. She never intended to take advantage of him. A lot of people seem to think she only wanted him for his money, but Forrest became rich fairly early in the film. She could have stayed with him then if she really wanted only money. As for this scene, a lot of people forget that Forrest had been running for 3 years straight across the US. From the moment Forrest Jr was born, there would have been no way she could have contacted him due to his constant movement. She was not looking for him to take care of her son, but honestly wanted him to know his own son before she passed away. She already knew she had little time left.
    Jenny was NOT the bad guy.

    The reason why I don't hate Jennay is because she was protecting Forest from herself. She knew she wasn't good enough mentally to be with someone as good and pure as him. She had too much baggage that was destroyed the day her son was born. She finally had an opportunity to be the parent she never had and then came down with cancer. She turned to the only good person in her life who just so happened to be the boys father. A man is who simple enough to understand right from wrong on the most basic and necessary of levels. This movie is pure gold.

    Forrest Gump is a fantastic movie, Tom Hanks deserved his Oscar for the part, and the music was fantastic too. I have seen this movie so many times, I have lost count, and cried so many tears over it, and still do, whenever I watch it. Especially at this part.

    Saw this movie in the theater when it came out. Hated Jenny then, still hate her now. Jenny was the antagonist and Forrest’s only mistake in life was chasing her. Jenny was literally the embodiment of every bad trait a woman can have.

    I love how everyone condones her behaviour by saying “he was running for 3 years” they couldn’t get hold of him… Forgetting that he protected her from predatory men, and protecting her from herself, she came into his house, told him that she loved him, gave him some of that good stuff and then snuck off in the early hours without any explanation… in response to that he started running for 3 years because Jenny told him in the beginning of the film… don’t ever try to be brave, just run, so instead of being brave he run, just like Jenny told him to do, because he has clear learning disabilities… Jenny knew she did him dirty, hence the apology.
