PiXimperfect's channel is, as far as I know, the highest subscribed English Language channel run by an Indian out of India. He is making us Indians proud 🌝 ! Meanwhile, kudos to Bandrew as well. You are perhaps the only youtuber, alongside Curtis Judd, that I trust in terms of Audio Reviews, and I like yours more anyday. My only request to you would be not to do any sponsored videos, e.g. like the one you did for RodeCaster Pro 2. That device came with bugs galore, and the internet was full of people complaining about some issue or the other, to the extent that the launch was called a disaster of sorts by some. I myself received 2 defective units - the original as well as the replacement, both. Had to finally ask for a refund. Your review didn't throw any light on users reporting so many issues. This was also the case with the Elgato Wave XLR, for which you again did a sponsored video, but the device had issues, reporter bt many. I experienced this myself as well. Doing sponsored videos for products that are being criticised by multiple users for quality issues makes your credibility take a hit. So please don't do any sponsored audio equipment reviews, cause then the neutrality isn't there anymore. Have sponsors from other segments instead, which you don't review on the channel. That's my humble request. Also, if possible, please try and review the Sanken CU-41 mic , as well as the Elgato Wave DX dynamic mic that has just come out. As a competitor to SM7B, I think it's pretty well priced, especially when you consider that you don't need to spend extra on a booster. And it's pleasing aesthetically too.
@Louco por Microfones re20 is a better mic in my opinion it's much smoother sounding than the sm7b which sounds a bit muffled in comparison. Neither are bad mics though the sm7b still has its place. EDIT: We all have different ears so things sound differently to all of us :).
My entire audio setup cost only 100 more than this microphone alone. I bought an SE DynaCaster, Rode PSA1, UA Volt 1, a generic xlr cable, and a 3.5mm to 1/4 adapter for $450. That's including tax and shipping from Thomann to the US.
This is the first video I watch from this channel. What I really notice in a positive way is, that you don't nudge the viewer in a certain direction but just present all relevant data/tests without judgment.
That was surprisingly good. I think $350 isn't as outrageous as people are making it out to be considering it sounded comparable to mics in its price range.
It sounds shockingly similar to the SM7B. I like the Earthworks more, but it's crazy how much I like the RE20. Maybe I should just get one of those lol.
Yeah it's got that sm7b style to it. I know people like you or Quinn will dislike this style. If you want a brighter dynamic RE20 would be a good route. Could go RE320 route or if you want really really bright, maybe PR40 or RE27N/D.
The Logitech Blue Sona Mic makes your voice sound deeper and more full than most of the cheaper mic's tested, I actually like the sound from it, I have big box Speakers from like 20 years ago and on them the Logitech sounds good.
I honestly thought this mic sounded terrible after watching some of the other videos I've seen on this, but you did it justice. Not bad at all. Good on Logitech!
Yeah agree 100%. The price is in steep competition. SM7B, RE20 and now the Ethos makes this a tough acquisition. But at $200-$250 it would disrupt the market. The sound samples I heard everywhere are pretty dang good imo. I am very pleasantly surprised. But it's just not enough for me to buy it when I can get the Ethos or SM7B.
The issue with the Ethos and SM7B are the price increase when accounting for something like a fethead/cloudlifter. This microphone put up against the SM7B right out of the box seems to be a great option and honestly picking it over the SM7B (currently the king microphone amongst streamers) makes a lot of sense.
@@CocaineCobain I'd say the statement would be true if we were referring to interfaces that were older. But these days an interface like the SSL2, MOTU M2, ID4 Mark 2 and even cheaper models like the Elgato Wave makes this less of a non-issue. But yes, if you have an older interface, ie Scarlet Solo Gen 1 then for sure. But interfaces these days can handle an SM7B quite well imo. It's case by case I think. I know a good few people who like the darker sound, and likely would love this mic's look. A shame it's priced as it is, but like you said it does seem to be fitting itself into a proper niche!
Considering you don’t need an amp in the circuit it makes a case for this mic. I think I’d prefer the black version. I think the mic sounds good. I’d also be happy with an SM57 for the price difference! 😳
To me it sounds like it shines best with the presence boost because it's too dark without it. The MV7x sounded really well by comparison at half the price though.
Great mic, but still love the sound of my SM7B more. Although it is VERY convenient that the Logitech comes with a booster, which is always a pain to deal with.
Good review as always 😊 I actually like it. Sounds good on my voice. With a slight tuning will bring it to match what I’m looking for. Plus ..not that it matters, it looks cool too. Has a unique design. I also think it’s slightly priced a bit high.
I’m surprised how much I liked the Rode Procaster. On the other hand, I’m also listening on Bluetooth headphones, so extra compression on the sound may be playing a part on what I like. I’m surprised at how nuanced some of the differences are between these, hard to justify the price over the MV7X from the little bit of speaking you’ve done. But thanks for the in-depth comparisons as always, Bandrew!
I typically think most mics >$100 sound ok when you test them, but I didn't like this one very much at all. Sounds like it needs a lot of eq reduction in the low end, and the rolloff when the high pass filter is turned on is a bit too aggressive and makes it sound thin. I also didn't like how it responded with the proximity effect test. Granted everyone's voice and preferences are different, but I thought the Dynacaster and SM7b sounded way better. I think I'd even rather use the V7 or SM58 based on this test. Also surprised the market can seemingly support yet another $300-$400 dynamic microphone.
@@superblitz2274 I do. I don't buy things that will be worth junk prices in 5 years. For the price is that the best mic you can buy?I don't think so. If you do your research you will find so many equal to it at way less.

Hey Bandrew! Great video! I personally love my SM7b, I thought the Logi Blue Sona is comparable. Oh also the cadence of your song being in a minor key, but then ending in a major key or on a major note, is called a Picardy Third!

I just watched the Senpai review on this..but I’m also SUPER excited you did one, as well. But the price..it’s so close to a SM7B. Unless it has a hidden feature.. _Looks at Justin Krause at a distance_
Just to be clear, the Senpai video was not a review. it was a sponsored showcase, which is fine but it wasn't an actual review. which is also why I've been looking forward to this video coming out, what I'm most surprised about is the 2nd mics ability to cancel out the resonant frequencies really impressive, thought it would just be a gimmick feature. compared to the SM7b this is honestly looking pretty good. if you don't care about resell value down the road, as we don't know how well it will hold its value & with this one you don't need a cloudlifter which is a + for people who don't have a interface powerful enough
It's called the Picardy 3rd when you end in major from a minor key. It was a late renaissance church preference to not end the song in the minor mode. Too sad!!!
I have this microphone. What you're saying about "may not be good for people with deeper voices that need help in the airy region" is spot on. I cannot for the life of me get something that doesn't sound "dusty" without the use of very aggressive multiband compressors, and then it starts to sound really harsh. I may go to the polar opposite direction and get myself a Wave DX instead as that may have a better sound profile for my voice.
surprising how much impact the windscreen has filtering some of the highs out of your voice and seemingly adding some mid tones. I liked it off personally
It actually sounds good! The price it a bit high compared to the mv7 but I do think it sounds just a tad bit better than the mv7 but mv7 has more features/versatility
Been waiting for your review ever since I saw it on the AlphaGaming channel. Great job as usual! I like the sound a lot and it sounds very similar to sm7b. A sound that I personally like. I kinda think the price is competitive given the built in booster. But I think Logitech would’ve been wiser to price it maybe $50 lower to grab more market share.
I've been waiting for your review of this mic. I think you're on the mark at $225 is a great pick but at $350 no thanks. I like my Procaster so I'm not changing. But as a consultant, I get to help people choose a mic, though I love a lot of Shure Mic I'm not a fan of the SM7B. Ethos is my high-end choice, Icon or Procaster are in the middle and I don't do cheap.
Yeah, the SM7b is kind of a polarising mic. Sound-wise it requires a lot more finagling to get a big, present voice sound out of than something like the RE20, let alone a condenser like the Ethos.
I'm thinking of upgrading my mic. I've currently own a Röde NT2A and I'm not very happy with it. Looking for a dynamic mic and your video was REALLY helpful. Keep it up!
Been waiting for your review! Not cause I want the microphone, but cause I like your opinions Edit: wow, I'm quite impressed by it. The mic sounds really good for they price point
This was a great video! I love your comparisons. I recently picked up blue Sona since it was supposed to be a competitor for a Shure SM7B. I recorded some gameplay along with streaming and tbh I hated the way it sounded compared to my rode podmic. I thought it would be better than the podmic at not picking up background noise and it sounds just as bad if not worse than my blue snowball. I wanted a mic that I sound more natural on along with one that helps me do less editing in post. It may have been something I did, but for now I think I'll stick with my podmic.
@@GhOsTsGeNeRaL I have a goxlr mini. For the sona I had my gain set on 40. My podmic my gain needs to be on 70. Any lower and the audio comes out very low.
@@GhOsTsGeNeRaL it wouldn't allow me to set dynamic and on condenser I had it low like that and it wasn't good. I can try other settings but I think I may just return it. 😔
I've been in the market for another Microphone for Work, and based on the comparisons, and my personal Rode Procaster. I think I'm going to settle on a second one. I think the Blue Sona would sound great, but I don't think at almost double the cost it's got enough value proposition.
Sounds good for the price. I prefer the shure SM7B and MV7 myself but the Blue Sona is right where it needs to be quality wise for the price. I was hoping that you would do a comparison with the Samsung Q9U.
Yeah same here. I got the q9u for $120 which I think is an extremely fair price, but the sm7b is still enticing even tho I don’t need it. Saw this came out near the range and would’ve liked to see the comparison
I was waiting for your review of this mic. Excellent review as always. I think this is a very compelling microphone for someone new in the market, but the pricing is a bit too high, considering that we have Rode Procaster that is way cheaper and built like a non-russian tank.
The biggest problem with this microphone is that it's unusable for videos where the microphone appears because its white color will make it overexpose if you want the rest of the scene to be properly exposed. Even in this video you can see that and how out of place it is.
If you have a low or mid range deep voice, then the Blue Sona with some EQ settings on an editing software make my voice sound great. It took me forever to find the right mic but this one took the cake. It makes my deep voice sound good.
Thanks for your review. I bought the Procaster based on your reviews though. I did liked the Movie Wall Street with Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen too
11:00 Thats called a Picardy third! Its most common in music from the Baroque period, and was used a TON by Bach. Listen to any minor key fugue by him and there's a good chance itll end like that.
Did you notice bad electronic shielding on the Logitech Blue Sona? I have the same issue with the Sona as with the Shure MV7X but even louder. The moment I turn on my studio lights (regular budget boxes) and the mic points in a specific direction I get quite an audible mid frequency humming noise. It also happens with my LED lights but not as loud. The distance to the lights doesn't seem to matter, it's there 2 feet or 10 feet away from the lights. I'm pretty sure I didn't have the issue with the SM7B I had for a short while and none of the other 3-4 dynamic mics, only the 2 mentioned before. Is there a way to get rid of it? Because I can't seem to find out other than pointing in the direction where it doesn't hum, which isn't really a solution though. Thanks in advance
I have not tried this but it may 'possibly' help.......Connect a short wire from the negative part of your mic element to the internal metal housing/shield of the microphone.
I did not personally encounter any shielding issues while using the Sona or the MV7x. It’s possible that I just have such low EMI in my space that the issue does not present it self. I may have to start looking into ways to test shielding.
@@Podcastage I guess you have very good shielding and my room has terrible shielding. I often have a hum or a ground loop, so it must be my room and my power cables in my house.for example I plug in an aux cable from my computer to a mixer and have a terrible ground loop but when I have both devices plugged in the same power outlet, it's gone. Thanks for your reply though, i guess it's just the problem of an old house and bad wiring
Stickers have really been lacking as of late. *edit* dynacaster ( and now ethos due to the price drop) are probably my favorites In this video for the cost / preformance. I’m also a big fan of the re320 But I know that one is polarizing for people.
@@choppercove That's probably what it was. Low bass. And yes. A phone isn't going to compete with a computer or god forbid a home system. I'll have to check it again later. Note: Don't listen to Podcastage comparisons while out shopping...
I feel like it's too expensive but still, it looks sooooo good, i mean, it's amazing how it kinda looks clean like the sm7b, but still looks better. Only reason i would choose it is the looks tbh
No one else mentioned it, but a lot of these dynamic broadcast mics tend to be low-mid heavy, killing their clarity and making them sound muffled without doing some sort of EQ or using the switching on the mic if it has it. IMO the SM-7b, this new Blue Sona, the Aston Stealth, and the Audio Technica AT-2040, mics, are some of the worst offenders, but the ART D7 mic is utter garbage because of it. These newer mics really have me impressed, especially the offerings from brands like Zoom, Rode, Elgato, and the new Shure MV7/MV7X, in regards to overall sound and clarity. My favorite old standard broadcast mics are the Ev RE320/RE20 mics. That said, this new mic sounds amazing on the guitar, both electric and acoustic. The lifeless/flat sound works great for pairing with a condenser for an overall sound that has a more mid-forward cut in a mix.
Awesome review. I was thinking about picking up the blue Sona for spoken word, I currently have an SM7B and an RE20 but after hearing your review, I am going to pass on this Logitech mic. Honestly all the mics in the $100 range competes with the Blue Sona, sure it has a built in preamp but at that price point it's honestly not worth it. Also totally agree that the EQs are not usable; sharp, unnatural and unpleasant to listen to when enabled
Dynacaster so good you forgot what mic you were reviewing? X-D this mic actually sounds great without the eq! Props to Logitech, although it seems to pick up a LOT of noise off axis.
In light of low expectations, I have to admit this thing is exceptionally good. Excellent plosive rejection, very good shock rejection, a good -if stylized- sound. I would not buy it under any circumstances for two reasons: 1. I have no use for it. 2. It’s fugly.
I think you really nailed it. It's a fine microphone, but at that price point, why in the world wouldn't you stretch the extra $50 for the real deal (SM7B) or the Earthworks? And the SE DynaCaster seems like clearly a better value proposition for less money and a similar feature set and arguably better sound. It looks cool on camera too.
Blue Sona is much less gain hungry than SM7b. If you plan on using it for streaming, Logitech also saves on a preamp/booster/activator. But as for the others... I dunno. I'd like to see the comparison in an untreated room to see how well it rejects the room compared to the others. And another factor can be availability, for some countries it may be problematic to find Earthwoks, for example

Sorry to hear the mic isn't working well for your voice. Hope the Wave DX works better for you because it is a lot brighter.
@@Podcastage appreciate your response :) you're my go-to for mic reviews. Keep doing what you do
Honestly, for spoken word, the $100 mics make the most sense to me.
Agreed
Se Dynacaster sounds insane!
surprising how much impact the windscreen has filtering some of the highs out of your voice and seemingly adding some mid tones. I liked it off personally
Great review! Mic just went on sale for $270 on amazon. Definitely gonna consider it now
I own this microphone now and it’s amazing.
It actually sounds good! The price it a bit high compared to the mv7 but I do think it sounds just a tad bit better than the mv7 but mv7 has more features/versatility
actually, in this video Blue Sona was compared vs mv7x. Not mv7
@@SeverSideShow ah you are right! It only had xlr..
You still got it! Great Review!
This was the best mic review I've seen yet!
Wow that is incredibly kind of you to say. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Glad the video was helpful.
Thanks for making thorough reviews
I've been waiting for your review of this mic. I think you're on the mark at $225 is a great pick but at $350 no thanks. I like my Procaster so I'm not changing. But as a consultant, I get to help people choose a mic, though I love a lot of Shure Mic I'm not a fan of the SM7B. Ethos is my high-end choice, Icon or Procaster are in the middle and I don't do cheap.
Yeah, the SM7b is kind of a polarising mic. Sound-wise it requires a lot more finagling to get a big, present voice sound out of than something like the RE20, let alone a condenser like the Ethos.
for some reason I still really love the RE20. It feels really intimate somehow
I'm thinking of upgrading my mic. I've currently own a Röde NT2A and I'm not very happy with it. Looking for a dynamic mic and your video was REALLY helpful.
Keep it up!
Been waiting for your review! Not cause I want the microphone, but cause I like your opinions
Edit: wow, I'm quite impressed by it.
It may have been something I did, but for now I think I'll stick with my podmic.
what interface do you have also what gain do you have it set too?
@@GhOsTsGeNeRaL I have a goxlr mini. For the sona I had my gain set on 40. My podmic my gain needs to be on 70. Any lower and the audio comes out very low.
@@Fynixmech oh are you using the dynamic or condenser setting?
@@Fynixmech use condenser setting on the goxlr for the blue sona and set the gain to 33% that's what I have mine at it works really good
@@GhOsTsGeNeRaL it wouldn't allow me to set dynamic and on condenser I had it low like that and it wasn't good. I can try other settings but I think I may just return it. 😔
I've been waiting for this review! Thank you!
I've been in the market for another Microphone for Work, and based on the comparisons, and my personal Rode Procaster. I think I'm going to settle on a second one. I think the Blue Sona would sound great, but I don't think at almost double the cost it's got enough value proposition.
Make "12 Best Podcast Microphones (FAQ Series)" PART 2 !!!
I think this is a very compelling microphone for someone new in the market, but the pricing is a bit too high, considering that we have Rode Procaster that is way cheaper and built like a non-russian tank.
i'm actually shocked 😂it sounds really good. when are they droping studio monitors?
That cadence is called a picardy third.
Here I am, all hangovered on a Sunday watching mic tests :D
The biggest problem with this microphone is that it's unusable for videos where the microphone appears because its white color will make it overexpose if you want the rest of the scene to be properly exposed. Even in this video you can see that and how out of place it is.
That would be an issue, but there is also a black version. So that is a non problem really :p
Only Americans leave their mic in shot
@@HistoricAntrim CoryxKenshins microphone isn't in the shot I have always liked that
If you have a low or mid range deep voice, then the Blue Sona with some EQ settings on an editing software make my voice sound great. It took me forever to find the right mic but this one took the cake. It makes my deep voice sound good.
Honestly surprised at how good this mic sounds. Especially from Logitech.
They bought Blue microphones so that's probably why!
Thanks for your review. I bought the Procaster based on your reviews though. I did liked the Movie Wall Street with Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen too
My favorite microphone reviewer!!
Wow, I am flattered. Thank you for the kind words. Happy recording Blastyoyz.
It sounds like a grounding issue.
@@RolandDobbins if it would be grounding, I think it should hum permanently, but it's only in specific direction and with the lights turned on
I did not personally encounter any shielding issues while using the Sona or the MV7x.

The music test was a pleasant surprise of talent
this is the best review ive seen so far !!!! :D
I believe the V-I cadence you were referencing is called the Pickerdy 3rd
Stickers have really been lacking as of late.
*edit* dynacaster ( and now ethos due to the price drop) are probably my favorites In this video for the cost / preformance. I’m also a big fan of the re320 But I know that one is polarizing for people.
The Elgato Wave and 2040 sounded very tinny compared to the Sona. I wonder if my ears were deceiving me. I watched this on my phone
It is a good looking mic (when you don't have the white body and red grill), the black one looks great too.
@@Podcastage Yea the one slaps
We also have to account for that the price also includes a mic preamp built-in
Awesome review.
The major 3rd in a minor key is called a Picardy third.
Granted I listened to this in my car, but for speaking the Logitech actually sounded great. The price tag is a shocker, though.
10:53 the music technique you're asking about is called a Picardy Third 👍🏻
Picardy
@@damon_aaron cheers, changed it for ya
Dynacaster so good you forgot what mic you were reviewing? X-D this mic actually sounds great without the eq! Props to Logitech, although it seems to pick up a LOT of noise off axis.
In light of low expectations, I have to admit this thing is exceptionally good. Excellent plosive rejection, very good shock rejection, a good -if stylized- sound. I would not buy it under any circumstances for two reasons: 1. I have no use for it. 2. It’s fugly.
Ending on the major third when the song is in a minor key is called a Picardy third. :)
Great review methodology and great review. Thank you very much.
Merci beaucoup pour cette review.
Est-ce que le Dynacaster et moins sensible aux plosives que le Sona?
Is there any reason to get the Blue Sona when the Behringer XM8500 sounds pretty much the same for only $20?
Wondering if they kept the price $100 higher since it has the Blue name (but not their logo) with that mic.
Hi there, I watch your videos regularly and I’m not sure if you ever made a video on this but it would be great if you could explain all the different terms and their meanings about microphone specs that you use in your videos.
I love the look of this Mic
Logitech released the exact same mic on their Logitech G website, all that's different is the logo on the cover for the switches.
Danke!
