Nexon Korea really be like: 2 more devs on MapleStory Global and SEA? Nah bro we're just gonna remove content and destroy our reputation and trust as a publisher. Because that is worth less than 2 devs. Also, please play our game more and spend more money! TY!
maybe nexon want more ppl to quit reboot and play regular but hey if want thas why not make regular a bit less p2w instead they found more way to make the games more p2w
If you checked the Investor Relations document of Nexon, It's quite easy to be found out that they are paying more attention to VR and other platforms as their focus on future. Games are not the in the top place of development now, which gave us some evidence why 'MapleStory lack developers'. For oversea servers, the development is still done in Nexon Korea. Throughout these years, Nexon Korea is taking more control of the developments of oversea contents. As the team lacks developers, the easiest way to solve this problem is to erase the differences between multiple servers. I don't actually hate oversea contents. However, I hate the attitude of the developers regarding these contents, lack of testing and deploy untested codes on live server. Some of these bugs appeared more than once. 2020: During the 'Mechanical Utopia' update, there is a serious bug '[Quest] Read Only Memory' where only ONE player can access the quest dungeon in each channel. 2020: The 'NEW' broken familiar system caused server lags, rollbacks and server crashes. 2021: The 'Moo Island' update, the game client kept crashing at a set interval of around 30 minutes and v.225 only lasted 31 hrs. 2021~2023: The 'Double Miracle Time' lag. There must be something wrong with the server-side code. Most interestingly, JMS lagged at exact the same time when GMS got DMT. 2021~2022: Reboot server lag investigation during 'Maple Live' update. 2022: Introducing 'My Home' which caused server lags, rollbacks and server crashes. 2022: During the 'Misty Island Legacy' update, there is a serious bug where Tutorials can be completed by ONE player at a time for each channel. (Throughout these years, each time an oversea content is added to the game, the server will experience some instabilities for sure.) =x= I just hope they take the development of this game as a serious thing. And hope Nexon realize what is their main job..
The answer is really easy than u thought. They are KIDS they do creative, playful and don't even fking care what they've done. If those KIDS don't like it, they just need to delete it.
such shit is common for the past decade. instead of adding stuff they instead remove and cut down. played MMO's in dozens and looking back, 80% em had content, mechanic or gameplay cuts
I haven’t played MapleStory in over a decade, but they nerfed my favorite class, Buccaneer, to the ground back then and that pushed me away. It was kinda OP since we could go Super Saiyan and basically not take damage, but it was such a good tank that you always got picked for PQs.
I'm not a current player, but as of 3 years ago, it was a class that was so trash, nobody seriously played it. It does like 1/5th the damage of a mediocre class in the game. They don't balance classes for years and when they do, they overtune that class so much that it makes no sense to play any other class.
Been on the way to return a few times. But every time something interesting (events) happen, there are always some bad news too. And for now. The bad news outweight the good things. The fact that you are at risk of losing your main class after 10 years. All the time invested into it.
I was thinking about playing MS, but through Steam, because all the negative reviews about Nex. Now I'm second-guessing because they're removing a whole ass class. I use to play LaTale back in the day and the company killed the game restarted the whole thing and removing everyone progess throughout the year. That killed LaTale, it never recovered from that. These companies don't think at all.
I couldn’t agree more with you. Coppersan is always staying positive about the game. It’s really shocking how is he stating that as the current state of the game is not worth playing. Let that sink in…
@@miiko7859 sorry to say every gaming company is f@rked up. its about generating revenue. Playing games is all about how much you can top up. There's no such game that lets you play free easily or enjoyable anymore.
It is definetively not worth it, imagine spending hours of your life and money, to just get deleted cause that class isnt kms class, so they dont bother updating it
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy; Nexon doesn't want to commit to publishing their game in the West because of falling player numbers... But player numbers are falling because of the lack of attention the West is getting. And this also goes many layers deep, because in a world where Nexon was supporting the game properly over here, then this video would be about an exciting upcoming update instead of how it's not worth playing the game. Meaning there'd be a better chance of new user acquisition.
Their lack of commitment is bothersome to me. I love the playstyle and art of the game. But it doesn't have any spirit or life to it like back in my childhood. It's a shame cause the game was always super fun. But they don't want to invest in new players or old ones.
The fact that they never cared about people outside Korea was apparent for years. But with recent changes, there should be absolutely zero doubt about it. We always were just extra income. And it doesn't seem like this will change anytime soon. Maybe ever. Oh, and let's not forget about how Nexon is completely disconnected from their fanbase since... well, I'd say, ever. Their support is infamous for all wrong reasons. And despite Nexon's focus on Korea, they still fairly recently had a fair share of their own drama. It makes me wonder how Maple Story is still somehow one of the most-played games in Korea.
@@OMGFrijoles I prefer person with an above average following thinking they are going to make an impact by only complaining when in reality it's just free publicity.
I’m happy you made this video. Even if it doesn’t have a huge impact on nexons decisions, it helps when RUclipsrs call them out on their BS, at least they’ll maybe think longer than 2 seconds before making a decision.
I will never forget last year March when Nexon litteraly gaslighted the whole community regarding the removal of 2x drops and other items from the cashshop. They said they had "overlooked" their inital dataset about how many players use 2x drop but regardless, they would continue to remove this. I personally don't care for the drop but it amazes me that they just straight up lied in their first post, then they said what really happened, and theny continued anyways. They are completely unaware of their playerbase or just dont care. This shit right here is not cool and made me back away from the game completetly.
Right, and its too many worlds not enough players anymore. everything is spreaded out honestly. as a community we should pick one world. & the reboot world is not even fun its super easy nowadays.
Used to play from 2005-2013 or so, and I think you really convey the love and passion for this game, and the sadness that comes from seeing it underperform or potentially die from poor management and decision making on behalf of the devs. I got hooked on a lot of these f2p online server games as a kid (probably like most of us) and I think there's a pretty big trend of them dying off from poor maintenance / dev management. It's such a shame since these communities are often the most dedicated and time invested since these are all games that have held on through 10 to 15+ years and still have such strong and passionate communities, it feels like such a waste of potential to see them start to fall off. In particular, my brain jumps to GunZ the Duel (died from poor management and lack of updates), Combat Arms (rampant hackers), OSRS (not dead but feels like a lot of wasted potential), SSBM (not dead but their potential was incredibly stifled by active interference from the devs), and now it looks like Maplestory is sadly joining that list. I stopped playing ms consistently over a decade ago, but whenever I saw your videos I acknowledged that there was still an active community happy to play the game, so it's really quite sad for me to see that they're taking this route. I suppose sometimes that's just how it is, good video though.
I’m glad you made this video and I also agree with it. It really feels like Nexon doesn’t care or know what to do with their game and it shows with each new event.
Not only do they not care about their game, they actively try to hurt other games developers. Look at the dark and darker drama. Nexon is a bloodthirsty, greed filled company. They definitely don't deserve players time, and especially not their money!
I started playing again during covid and mostly during burning events. The game has progressed so much from what I know (2005-2009) but was quite fun with the constant dopamine from leveling and the pretty easy level 200s on a lot of different classes. I stopped playing after they cut off The Netherlands, I've felt Nexon's hard hand quite a few times back in the day, not gonna burn myself on that one again. I remember being blocked out from gMS as a European and forced to play eMS, later they made you able to play again but unable to make more accounts. Nexon America always felt like a giant coporate entity (or puppet for Nexon KR) and players had almost no way to contact Nexon or have a say in their decision-making processes. In the early days some GMs that stood up for players on the forum even got fired or removed from their positions. I quit around when cubing was introduced and the only way to cube once was spend 4 bucks. Big Bang only made it worse. A entire class getting deleted? Absolutely fucking brutal.
I'm pretty scared for the future of GMS honestly, with the current state of their decision making and lack of communication, it's just a ticking time bomb. There are so many possible things on their hit list which would cause massive outrage or potential exodus of players. I really wish there was some clarification to their decision making and insight on the direction they plan on taking GMS.
Those decision-makers think >most if not all of their customers are just kids secretly swiping their parent's credit cards and think no one was influential nor powerful enough to stop them.
I quit after 15 years about 6 months ago. I do not miss the added stress. Maple served it’s time in my life and will always hold a special place full of fond memories in my heart. Do yourself a favor and quit
I log on every other month out of nostalgia but doing dailies or bosses aren’t worth it when the soul of the game is gone. I started in the Beta for GMS in Broa. The game was full of people 24/7 since it was actually Global. The game is only focused on selling you cash shop items, not making the game fun.
Unfortunately I don't see MapleStory improving unless there's a massive change in upper management. A game this old shouldn't be getting so much worse so fast. I had to quit because the changes over the last 2-3 years made it very clear that Nexon wants me to grind non-stop AND pay them money even on Reboot. Hopefully we get some competition in the 2D action MMO space to force Nexon to change.
Im really glad to see u making a video on these subjects. People can rant all day on reddit and it will probably do nothing to help with the state of the game, but u are considered by many to be one of the biggest GMS content creators so lets hope some1 with some power to do things sees this are decides to do something.
It’s insane this is what I’ve been saying for years in hope that people speak up in the community considering that this game has the potential to be so amazing yet people only would say to me “maybe you should take a break”
Maplestory is a one-hit wonder. Each of the main versions of the game are so different from each other, they can be considered different games. In that regard, the first hit (where there were only explorer classes), is the best one. After that, though there were some ups, it kept going downhill in general.
Yup, I still remember waiting for pirate to drop in America, that was MS at its peak right around the time pirate class released I miss it. I was an ice lightning mage and had has a priest. RIP OG maple story
7:23 - 7:52 It isn't neither really crazy, nor tone deaf. Nexon has been shit for years. For half a decade the company has had horrible reputation for various scandals such as, what was going on with the rates/drop tables across multiple things and how they were lying about it. How rigged flames rolls and inner ability rolls were and would roll exclusively with other things (for example %all stat flame would roll with a jump flame). They made official notices and posts full of lies which were later discovered to be false. Which forced them to make more notices only to display how skewed their definition of "random" is. Which lead to being asked if this system has bled over to cubes and them refusing to release statements about it, hiding and lying even more. To messing with the cash shop items such as drop coupons, which were removed for being "unpopular", which of course not even a kid would believe, and was very obviously removed for balancing issues... excuse me """balancing""" issues. To watching live streams of the head dev saying that they had ideas of monetizing 5th job progression by making you pay real money/maple points to upgrade your arcane symbols, which are REQUIRED to do any damage, essentially pay walling the entirety of the 5th job and beyond content. This was thrown out there as a 'look what we DIDN'T do because we care about you', but it only went to show how the MS dev team approaches the game. Which, of course, everyone knew, but having it said in front of you by the head dev so blatantly is a whole new level of disappointing. He may as well have said 'Yes, you are the pay pigs and whales that you knew to be'. To Cash shop items and boxes dropping only your gender's + unisex clothes and never stating in the drop pool or on their site that it works this way, making players spend money for clothes they simply couldn't get because they were opening them as the 'wrong' gender. Especially the Zero class that would only get male items and couldn't get female ones. Or company scandals such as the recent suing case of Dark and Darker. The list is honestly too long to go through, and this comment need not mention them, because the point has come across already. No, Nexon isn't crazy or tone deaf. It is, in fact, the player that is crazy. It is the player that even CONSIDERS of 'returning to maple' that is insane. Nexon and their product has only been getting shittier and the people keep playing their devoid of value, meaningless game that was celebrated for becoming a x64 software, as if it's some big technological accomplishment in the year two thousand and twenty fucking two. As if not crashing during a boss and losing your rewards because their shit software could only handle the limits of 2GBs in memory shouldn't have already been the norm. Nexon throws putrid waste at you and instead of throwing it back or avoiding it, you instead swim in it. That is why Nexon and Maplestory are always gonna be getting worse, because you don't seem to drown. Your cockroach endurance against their predatory systems have it made so. And all you have to show for this endurance against the machine is """compensation""" with 15-30 min exp coupons, arcane symbols, nodes, flames and cubes that come in minuscule amounts. And which, despite making up the core of the game and can be farmed on a daily basis, are considered compensation simply because nobody wants to farm them, they just 'have to'. And some """refunds"""" for the money spent in maple points, which doesn't even account for 10% of the expenses. And """"new""" """events""" (more shitty dailies that crash the game, which you hope are simply killing level monsters to fill a bar so you don't feel like you are 'going out of your way' to do despite the fact that they are made to be new CONTENT. But of course you feel this way because the alternative is boring, time wasting, game crashing disasters like the Goo Island event) were the """rewards""" are as uninspired as ever. Some worthless rings, cosmetics such as mounts that are only used when you remember to use them before you go afk, and the aforementioned compensation rewards. Nexon expects you to play and pay for their product because despite of it all, you have continued to do so. And will, expectedly, continue to do so, for until you no longer can, which, mind you, will only be due to secondary reasons, such as life complications etc, and not because of what Nexon has done, is doing, or will be doing.
I played maplestory back in 2008 for a couple a years and loved it. Man i came back to try it out for nostalgia purposes a year ago and it lasted for about 3 weeks. I still watch your videos though even though i have no plans to ever return to Maple. Great reporting
Agree fully, and it gets even worse when you look at the perspective of a new player, you're just missing so much power and its so much harder to progress when compared to older players. No badge than can be starforced, no perma BIS totems, no buffed spawn rate to level faster, no gollux equips early on due to the nerfs, no lab legion blocks and the list goes on and on. Every time these changes have happened I've heard people say that it doesn't matter in the end, its just a 4% stat difference or whatever but when you look at the big picture the changes stack up and make the playing field really unfair.
I remembered a few years back, the Mesos shop for MSEA pricing was much higher than the other servers due to players being "too efficient". It was quite ridiculous but over the years, it reduced a bit (some item went from 3x the price to 2x) but it is still much more expensive than KMS.
They actually said why they increased prices on meso shops in the patchnotes: " Developer Comment: The Meso Shop was created to allow players to conveniently purchase items that are hard to obtain or items needed for enhancement. As it makes the process much easier, the prices of the items have been set with consideration to the prices for each world, currency acquisition difficulty etc, so that it wouldn’t have a large impact to the player experience and on the overall market value of similar items that have been distributed. Please understand that there will be differences from the previous Meso Shop prices, and we promise to make any future decisions to the shop will be made appropriately based on player purchase history and feedback. " So they pretty much think: "These items are BiS and you have too much meso/weekly income, so it shouldn't be an issue for your to buy them." While I do agree with that statement if we apply it to old long term players with multiples of bossing mules to profit from, new players do suffer from such changes.
aww hell naw, reg server crystal prices are way lower than reboot and they say we have more weekly income, not everyone can afford frenzy service or use auction house to earn as much as 300 mill. that's just telling the players that early progression in reg server is non-existent and move to reboot which isnt a good idea considering how much players are on reboot that they gotta actually reboot the server when there is a massive update or event that crowds the server that its not really fun anymore to even log into the server with that much people.
I think the point being made was; there wasn't enough of a boost in GMS for the prices in these shops to double, and why now instead of prior to them removing totems? They're adding content that pushes extra meso into the economy but then raising prices because of something their adding? Might aswell not add the content and keep shop prices consistent with KMS since they supposedly want us to go in that direction.
There is another meso shop available in a month during Saviour, so drastic price increases at current event might as well be viewed as them saying: "You will get another fairy heart in a month so because this item is so rare (appears once every 6 months) and we are giving 2 of them in such a short time span - pay."
Removing Jett reminds me of when they took out making UAs. My main to this day that I haven’t touched in about 6 or so months is a UA Buccaneer around 248 I believe. UA classes were so cool because of the inventory/equip slot advantage and the cool cyg skill with the orb pet. Shame they’re too focused on deleting and ruining “kanna” over adding more content or classes mostly.
While I do of course understand the fact you made this video and I do agree with most of it, especially just lack of foresight (why even introduce game breaking items?) and just general lack of care (why keep game breaking items in the game for so long?). I do want to critique a few things that you got wrong, mostly about the meso rates in GMS. 1. You said the meso from monsters is the same in GMS Reboot and KMS Reboot, but it's not. We have 6x the base meso rate (500%) where as KMS Reboot has 5x the rate (400%). 2. You are partially right that Frenzy is not 2x the rate, it is a bit over 3x the rate, so way more than you said. 3. Comparing meso crystal prices is definitely understandable, but I don't think giving extreme black mage as an example is exactly fair, as I don't think KMS Reboot has even cleared extreme black mage yet. Afaik only reg has and even if they did, it would be 0.0001% of the player base that has access to that type of crystal money. Kms makes more past nlomien and their prices are imo better, because it rewards you better for pushing further instead of making a ton of CRA/NLomien mules, but making a ton of CRA/NLomien mules is a lot easier than pushing mules further, even more so in GMS because of all the power creep we have. There is a reason a lot of GMS players don't want KMS crystal prices. Except for the meso comparison, I do agree with the video. Even if we do make more mesos, I still don't think the fairy heart should be so expensive. It's just stupid. I always wonder what is going inside Nexon, I truly feel like whoever runs it has 0 clue what the game even is about and just throws darts at a dart board to make decisions, because none of them make any sense. My biggest annoyance is honestly the cash shop. GMS probably doesn't make a ton of money, but it doesn't help that all of their cash shop updates are awful. I've seen people literally beg them to bring vac pets back so they can spent $100 ($70 with 30k reward points) and basically a monthly subscription, but they just don't. We have to wait 8 months each time for them to bring them back for some reason and when they do, they keep bringing back the old ones, despite the fact that some people would probably double dip to get the newer vac pets. It sometimes feels like they are actively trying to not make money.
I do agree, maplestory is not worth playing anymore. They destroyed so many things just this past year and for what? Having my passion and main class getting deleted without any warning is one of the worst way to go, amongs the other things you did mention in this video. It´s just a matter of time until we lose BT, kanna, hayato, gollux and all other non-KMS content. Is it even worth upkeep GMS ? I´m scared for the future and right now i don´t even know if i wanna continue playing or not. /#1 Jett Lv 285 SjutaPang EU Reboot
Hi Coppersan, You got me into Maple last August, and when I hit 260 in January amidst the cube/SF changes and totem fallout, I had "passed" your progress and started watching "sweatier" creators like Matt and Sacrix among others. I soon quit cold turkey, feeling terrible about how much time I'd invested into a game that treats its players and breeds resentment like Nexon, with a vocal community to match.. I see you're 261 now, and I reinstalled and have 2 daily stamps on my Momentree event now. I hope to learn from your approach to finding enjoyment in a game and community bent on obfuscated progression and development, community outrage and frustration, and non-transparent creators and communications 🙏 Thanks Ronald 💛
i really appreciate that coppersan is saying it as it is. he isn't sugar coating it or still praising nexon. I haven't seen any other Bean Brigaders speakout; not that i'm throwing shade.
Wow The algorithm must have just decided I needed some Maplestory in my life cause I genuinely wasn't expecting an MS video on my timeline. I stopped playing around a decade ago, but it's really cool seeing people still dedicated to it! Even if things don't look that good right now.
Used to play MS every day after school back in the day, for a couple years. Was a lot of fun back then, but I tried a private server a few years ago and it just wasn't the same because my tastes have changed over the years. I still dabble on a WoW classic private server though on a regular basis but would never pay for it.
Nexon is able to make such controversial changes time and time again because many people continue to play and spend more money on the game. For the past few years, each patch/update has been met with disappointment and complaints and there is barely any content to be hyped about. Just copy-pasted event shops and "balance". If you hear about this in the context of any other game, you'd think the game would be completely dead long ago. Nexon can enjoying taking a crap on their players over and over again because they know they're too invested to quit.
Let’s not forget that every time something disappointing occurred, those players who invested a lot told other players to shut up about it and how “nexon can do whatever they want”. So here we are. Hope everyone’s getting what they want 🤷♀️
@@cutejustice i've been complaining about the state of the game and how horrible nexon is for several years. and you're right, every single time i did i'd just get blind hate from everyone saying 'NO THE GAME IS PERFECT DON'T COMPLAIN THE GAME HAS NEVER BEEN BETTER DUDE THE GAME IS SO EPIC!!!!' and they would never bother explaining why they think the game is awesome. the game gets the laziest updates imaginable, adding progression features to reboot, removing totems and now entire classes from the game, removing alien content (among some other notorious content removals) while refusing to fix the horrendous grind that other *practically necessary for progression* content requires. anyone remember having to do pink bean prequest for EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER YOU MADE? what fun that was! i won't even begin to talk about the grind to get ror4 and how unbelievably annoying and frustrating and slow and awful that was (and no, i gave up before i ever got one. couldn't be happier having done so) not to mention all of the broken event items that, without them, your character will never be optimal. pottable badges and totems with flames, yada yada yada. go fuck yourself if you didn't catch the events in time, have fun 1 shotting mobs in arcana for the next 10000 hours as cheating fmaing blaze wizards and kains fly all over the map auto looting everything on every channel. YOU CAN'T COMPLAIN!!!! THIS GAME IS PERFECT!!!!! NO ISSUES AT ALL!!! i've been on the "only come back to play whenever a new class is released" mentality for years now because i acknowledged long ago how good maplestory could be, and how frustrating and poorly managed it actually is in reality
@@Jvizzlezz 1000%! Maybe if we were more unified as a community and actually supported each other’s issues, we’d be able to aid in steering maplestory on the right direction but no. “It’s a Korean game! They can do whatever they want!!!” Glad it’s “paying” off then.. 😒
@@cutejustice my issue with maplestory is that underneath the garbage that nexon does, the base game itself has so much potential to be so good. many of the classes are so interesting and so well designed that it's genuinely hard to hate playing them, the first time i played ark when he came out i was blown away at how awesome and fun it was to go specter form and just blast away everything with evil-looking demonesque attacks. or playing illium and you max out your orb gauge or whatever that thing was, and you basically turn into god for 10 seconds and can fly all over the map and shoot homing missiles at everything. in what other games can you do things like that? the game in and of itself has so much potential to be so great, but then every change that nexon does, every update and every new shop change and premium shop nonsense they put out is always so horrifyingly bad that it's shocking the game is even alive, and (the reason why it's still alive...) how whales can justify spending 10000 dollars a month on every random character they create, dudes spamming mvp buffs every other minute of the day all the way into the wee hours of the night. it's genuinely a shame.
Hi Copper, been a long time fan of yours and am glad you finally got back to 100k like the good old days. Although i don't watch you on twich anymore, still love your video content that you put out as it reminds me of the good times. Cheers to you and your wife!
Theory time, Any content that Korea MS doesn't have is going to be removed from global MS and other regions over time, that being: Classes: Hayato, Kanna, Beast tamer. Questlines and quests: Afterlands, Mark of Honor, Evolution System, Stellar Detective's, Hyperspace Cube, Mushroom Shrine Tales, Dream Defender, Masteria Through Time, Amorian Challenge Dimension invasion, Tynerum Altar. Bosses: Gollux, Princess No, Akechi Mitsuhide. Areas: Zipangu, The Far East, New Leaf City, Crimsonwood, Commerci Republic, Arboren. Systems: Familiar System, Tier 3 link skills. I looked over the maplestory wiki of what was available in global but not in Korea to figure this out, seeing how Jett went as well as other content that gms had but not korea makes me believe in this theory as the path the game will go down. Other regions may keep this content but due to gms's low dev capacity i belive for certain over time we will lose these things and probably more, whatever Korean nexon justifys.
Issue number 3: While the concern of 1 character deletion, content issues and price changes in game are quite upsetting. This was VERY much foreshadowed for any western players they showed you this way in advance. That being they made MS2 and without much fuss or thought deleted the ENTIRE GAME. While also keeping your entire in game wallet - thanks for playing Nexon! Sorry to everyone who loves the game and has played from the start. Maplestory is dead everyone with a DNR tattoo on the body. RIP ~ 2005-2023 ~
Jett was my main... and now shes getting removed, I literally think about it every single day... Its not a happy time at all for me, all that time and work for my speedy, dodgy Jett... Gone.
I'm a dev so just want to explain a few things here: Its extremely common that a system is built on a set of tools, the system ages, then those tools become old and outdated compared to modern standards. Ok so just "update it" right? A task like that is *extremely* complicated. The reason being is that changing one thing often breaks another, fixing that thing changes the next. You need to translate one thing to another, some old library functionality might not be supported in new libraries, now you have to build something from scratch, oh wait now that doesn't work for this part etc. Technology evolves so fast that to keep up means to keep tearing down and rebuilding. Obviously thats not economical, so companies just keep building using the original tools. Overtime you basically get whats happening here. Issues that were "fine" in the past snowball, a system becomes so convoluted and spaghetti-like it would cost an enormous amount of resources that again, its not worth spending. To them, Jett was not a popular enough of a class. Its all business. Its not in their benefit to dedicate resources that affects a very small minority of playerbase. I know you're not familiar with these things but it would definitely take more than just "1-2 devs" to overhaul a system like this, all the while they are still continuously piling more shit on top with new updates. Personally, even if they paid me, I would not want to deal with that shit because its miserable trying to update legacy systems. Why should I clean old shit up for Nexon I when I can get a job using modern tools and build modern things? So devs rather look elsewhere, meaning, its likely that its tough to find good devs that are willing to cleanup a 20yr old pile of shit codebase. Again, its all business. Yes I agree, of course theres mis-management, greed, corruption, etc. No doubt. But at the end of the day, even omitting all of that, I can absolutely understand why they dont want to commit resources to it. Devs are expensive afterall. Every dollar they spend they want to maximize the return. It sounds greedy but it also is what keeps this game alive. I hope people can try and understand the situation from a business side of things. Its sad, dont get me wrong, but as someone whos in the industry its simply the reality that we have to accept and hope that in the future lessons from past mistakes can prevent these sorts of things from happening. I love this game man, I hope it lasts 🙏
Totally agree, but I really wonder if stuff is outdated because it wasn't maintained properly. Other classes don't have the same issues Jett had sometimes
Kanna and Hayato had complete revamps during the Sengoku update and were updated into their modern forms which we know them for. They were completely built from the ground up with modern tools. Zen? Yes legacy + old and buggy but it was replaced one-to-one with Mo Xuan in CMS/TMS. Really no excuses for the Jett situation there
Will this be one of the signs that a game is moving towards the end of it's cycle? it always starts with removal of some content, inflating the item prices.. and slowly providing less and less update, only maintenance update.. and ultimately, BOOM, an announcement that it's exiting the region.. basically what happens to many many mobile app games that launched and didn't seem to make it.
Every time I try to start playing, I felt a face a progression barrier that is constantly causing me to burn out, leveling the mule, and star the gear that is meant to be thrown away. It feel not rewarding to play, I had difficulty with my 5th job skill nodes because I know there is an optimal way(like use skill node other than boost node in early stage), and the penalty for not doing that is too high to take. Same with gearing, it just felt so many progression loophole for beginner to fall into. diligence for higher chance of scrolling? how many days for that? how many spell traces are needed? Why does it feel so hardcore for a casual game? why limit the time a gear can be sold and move around? The early quest is not rewarding and so many guide just tell me to grind the monsters, and that just set the gap apart between jobs, I played phantom and nothing got improve back when I played 8 years ago, it feels terrible. If I want to start again in reboot, the amount of legion and link skill mule would make me quit again.
Idk why people would play this garbage anymore. It's unrecognizable in it's current state. Even going to PreBb servers, I just don't think I have the desire to grind mushroom game anymore. It was fun while it lasted, but such a game can't thrive anymore in the current gaming landscape. They need to gate gameplay behind Stat walls for whales to keep paying. Yes, it was kind of always like this, but mmo's and games in general have come so far why would anybody touch this game aside from nostalgia.
@@mikeeps1788 if you've ever played a pserver you'd know playing by yourself is only fun for a day or two. Maple is doomed, it's gameplay is so simple it'd be better served as an idle game but yet they make so many different avenues you have to farm weekly, it just feels like a chore, and it has always been a chore. All MMO's are, that's why you play the ones that respect your time.
@@Xhalonick ngl, out of all the complaints the game deserve to get, treating it as a simple single player game is definitely something only someone that never got pass cra would say. once you join a guild and actively take part in the community instead of waiting for it, you'll see theres so much social aspect that is offered not necessarily by the game itself but through the game as a platform. not to mention the party bossing offers alot of mechanics to understand and progress through
Correction on frenzy: It boosts monster spawn rate by 4x, from 8 sec down to 2sec, plus more monster spawns. It's a theoretical 4-5x increase in meso/drops/exp if you can full clear in 2 seconds. Frenzy totem is disgustingly overpowered and that's an understatement.
Ya it’s quite disgusting they even allowed it to exist in the first place. Its so op that Bera and Scania currently have a Spanish mafia crisis with hoarding maps and screwing up the economy, and GMs aren’t doing anything about it. They would rather put effort in banning Duky, a player in reboot, over than something that affects way more players.
@@maka3230 And unfortunately the majority of the whales are in Korea, where they have a cult-like loyalty to Nexon and KMS actually gets a bit of service. There’s no hope for Maplestory globally, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they make an end of service announcement within the next ten years. (For global, not korea)
ive been playing the game for about 3 years now and when i first started playing i would always get annoyed about content removal but ive literally gotten to the point where i just dont think theres a reason to even try and get mad because nexon clearly doesnt care at all what there players in gms think or want they just want the game to be more and more like kms even tho they STILL release new region exclusive content to us and other regions constantly. im literally only still playing because im so far in that the changes honestly dont hurt me that much, it only hurts the new players which is why i literally never recommend the game to anyone thats interested in the game that sees me playing it so much which sucks because i would love to play the game with more people i know and have the game get bigger but i know that as the game is and with the new player experience constantly getting worse and worse, i would be doing anyone that askes me how the game is and if they should play a disservice recommending the game to them
This is actually a good point; we don't REALLY know what Nexon is thinking about with their overseas servers. For KMS, Korean players do actually get some insight as to how the game is going to go. But GMS? Maplesea? Heck, even CMS, TMS and JMS to a degree? Nope. Like, in a live service game, ANY live service game for that matter, how the game prospers is when players understand where this is going. The game can have balance issues, or bugs, but as long as the players know that the developers care, then players will continue playing. But with many of the recent nerfs and removals with ultimately dumb reasoning behind them, players eventually leave due to lack of trust. This can turn around, like in Korea where it does appear that the developers is making some improvements to the regular server gameplayer experience. But I am not confident that oversea servers will even get the same sort of treatment. Honestly Nexon, if you all don't really care about your overseas playerbase, then instead of dragging out the pain, just shut down all the oversea servers. I mean it; you can just focus on your Korean players, and stop dragging out a playing experience that is devoid of love and care. We will also finally have an excuse to try something else, possibly from a developer that actually cares.
Completely agree with this. I still play daily, but I honestly think KMS should just rip the overseas bandaid off. It’s very clear they don’t care about any of their non-KMS servers (they barely care about KMS), and they’re creating a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point. They don’t want to spend resources on what they perceive to be a failing server, but not spending resources is largely what’s causing the server to fail.
my guess is the meso shop got doubled purely because the value of mesos in the meso market is a lot lower in GMS compared to KMS. And then reboot just gets shafted in the crossfire. It heavily sounds like there is a huge disconnect between the GMS team and the KMS team due to lack of or problems with communication between the two.
they are trying to make gms whalestory thats why then when the whales dont produce enough they give this message "it comes with a heavy heart after all these years we have to shut maplestorys doors to the west and the rest of the world thankyou all for mapling" what a fucking joke im so glad i went to private servers
I do am a coder, and happen to be working on a refactor project(rebuilding a copy in a better code state from the ground up with newer techniques) for just under a year now. If something has a future, it is worth refactoring it if the code base is bad.
Just wanted to thank you for the videos man! I quit back when the totem cheating scandal broke a while back, it's just too obvious from everything nexon does anymore that they don't care how their changes effect gms, or reboot at ALL
Thank you for informing us and for your thoughts on the updates Coppersan. As a returning player a few months back, I've stopped playing recently because of a few reasons: First reason was because of the claims of illegal use of assets/source code against Ironmace's game, Dark and Darker. I love their game and was taken back by the whole situation especially since the claims have very little evidence linked to them along with some claims that are really reaching beyond copyright material. I'm not on either side until all facts and actual evidence has surfaced but I don't enjoy supporting a company that may be bullying a smaller one. Secondly, Maplestory's progression is very grindy and confusing. Which is where I found your channel with helpful guides that allowed me to get further than I have before. I enjoyed my time with it but I'm not a huge fan of endless grinding. My third reason being what you explained in this video along with the fact that I watched a video on the director(?) of Maplestory and how he said the genre of the game is dying. That just tells me that he no longer cares for the game or has any long term plans for it. I'm a firm believer that you must be passionate about your game if it's going to succeed and have a long lifespan. I don't see myself trying to get into a game where it's own team has little faith in it's longevity.
I have loved maplestory for almost a decade now, I take breaks pretty often but always returned from time to time but honestly this might be the end for me, the folks in charge seem to hate the global audience and have squandered what little trust they earned with the few positive changes in recent years.
Nowadays whenever I stop playing Maple for a long period of time it's not because of burnout or something of the sort, but because of Nexon making their usual awful changes. But I doubt that it's gonna change. The big spenders who haven't stopped giving Nexon money all this time aren't going to stop now. And why should Nexon change their ways if they're still making good profit.
A thing I am also disappointed with, I was there when Neo Tokyo existed and got closed for over decade, and have waited for so long just to get a 3 week event with the very same enemies, NPC´s, Music and korean voiced, unskippable cutscenes. The only new thing from that was the new mechanics of Aufheben (which is a german word for "pick up/loot" and sounds really stupid) and attacks, her design stayed the same however. I was very disappointed with that, also that it was so short instead of being a whole new area I have waited for a decade... Also same goes for Alien Visitor, I have ran over 100 times with atleast 150% drop gear and havent gotten a single helmet as souvenir and after I wrote that in a ticket, they didnt even gave me that Helm as a gift I have worked for over a week, you might probably remember the Tweets I have sent you. They also want to remove "trading" bosses or boss carries at all, making it significantly harder for especially newbies to get on good gear early on from lets say CRA or Absolab, or even Von Leon since those regular mobs will kill you when you arent good equipped later In the end, the game is an absolutely nightmare for Newcomers and punishes you for going deeper into the game, which is quite the opposite what it should be
"Working with a 20 year old code base is probably hell" Yes it is. I work with a 30 year old code base at my job. It's horrible. But we still fix shit. We do rewrite stuff from the ground up if needed.
I was never a fan of Jett's game play, but it's still extremely messed up that they're deleting the class and anyone who mained Jett is now forced to play a different class. I quit the game back in Summer 2020 when they completely flubbed the Double Miracle Time event for Reboot. When they made that special DMT event for Reboot to compensate for the screw up along with telling us that they "Optimized the code" for better performance and still managed to screw it up laid the final nail in the coffin for me. I only came back a few months ago to play Neo Tokyo as I was waiting nearly a decade for them to bring it back and a way to obtain Iruvata as a familiar and after going through the story and getting my familiar, I felt a sense of true freedom from the game. Seeing that the game that I had a lot of fun playing in grade school through college go horribly downhill over the years is sad, but it's to be expected from such a company like Nexon.
Excellent video. hopefully nexon sees this and takes some kind of interest. I love this game and would love even more to see what it could be if nexon actually gave half a care.
I cannot be convinced otherwise that either one of two things is happening: either KMS is complaining too much about the experiences globally and Nexon is slowly attempting to align the content to KMS without adjusting the experience, or Nexon is attempting to slowly push players out from regional versions to convince investprs that regional operation isn't lucrative and pull a Maplestory 2. If Nexon PR stated that the removal of content is related to some game breaking bugs, then they're simply full of it, especially when content was allowed to exist for years on end. The removal of progression content like Commerci stings, but reinforces the idea of KMS alignment and can be worked around; it wasn't game breaking nor was critical for progression. The removal of a class, a core part of the game and a significant time investment for many players nails that philosophy in five times over, one of the least played classes. It would be talked avout more uf the class was game breaking. It sets everything that isn't KMS on the chopping block, from Beast Tamer to Hayato and Kanna, to all Sengokou content, Akechi and Princess No (and her BiS sub weapons), to Gollux and Maple Tour. It also instills uncertainty in all other classes, if Nexon is willing to gut days, months, or even years of investment, and who knows how many dollars with that, for whatever purpose. Nothing is safe within the game. Nexon doesn't care about you if you're not playing KMS.
I have played maple on and off for around 15 years now. I decided to spend a bit more time on this game during covid and managed to reach 268, full arcane, 403 SF, and 51K stats. I like progression and maple's progression is simple and easy to understand. These changes impact the core of progression. Why would I play a game that I have no confidence on? There are so many good games coming out this year. It is time for me to try something else.
4:10 Yep, have said this numerous times to different friends over the passed years when I've seen a Nexon tag on something they were initially interested in. Spot on.
Doesnt matter what they do with the game if it has pretty pixels and whales willing to drop thousands of dollars on the game. Would love to see them rebuild the game from the ground up, but Im worried that could be the final stake in the heart, because chances are theyd completely butcher it
Came back after a long Maple break (2014) to try the Ignition event and had a good time playing until they killed my Sweetwater Commerci progress with no warning. I kept going anyway, but this price increase and Jett deletion was too much of a sign that Global was running on a skeleton crew. I figured I had accomplished plenty in my few months playing and quit. I'll remember Maple fondly, but I don't need to be there while the game implodes.
I feel the same. I came back for Destiny and was really enjoying the game but slowly became more and more frustrated with some of the decisions being made in GMS, which all seemed to only serve the purpose of slowing down progression and making lives harder. Not to mention content removal which seem to me like a lazy way to handle bugged/broken content, like Julieta which I actually quite enjoyed. I haven’t touched Maplestory since I started the spring semester ~5 months ago despite playing daily for several hours since Destiny, and I’m not really sure if I want to come back or not ngl. The semester just ended, but I still don’t feel inclined to go back to the mindless grinds.
@@Lurker001 yeah destiny was so much fun. Sadly probably the last good patch for a long time and possibly ever. Hard to see the future of the game with all of the choices they're making lately
I think the toughest part of it all, is our voices not being heard. There's always a higher table that companies will ONLY listen to and we the general public are always ignored. It's disheartening to hear about Jett, my Broa main for LIFE.
I played at the very very start as a day 1 player. The game is much faster than it used to be in regards to getting into the game. As far as having the playability it used to; it doesn't. It's on it's very last leg and just cash grabbing the very few people left still playing. I'd be shocked if more than 5 people are maintaining this game.
i havent played maple since last november and every time i get an itch to play again they pull some really stupid decision that makes me not want to waste my time lol. and i dont even play a jett but it makes me cautious about playing any other job.
I think the problem with region specific classes is fascinating. Having different classes in different regions *that KMS doesn't have control over* sounds like a nightmare. Every time you need to push out patches to these satellite regions, you have to consider their weird regional variants. The obvious solution is for Korea to just pick up all the regions specific classes and properly implement them into the game. All other regions no longer have control over these classes, they're as 'official' and canon as the hero classes. This would be the cleanest solution as it requires no future maintenance or consideration. Another solution would be to relegate region classes into being reskins of another class. Jett, for example, could be just a reskinned version of corsair, maybe with 1 or 2 additional abilities for flavor. The biggest problem they're having is lack of resources to manage a whole class regionally, so reducing the complexity of the class down to a reskin might keep the maintenance overhead low. Unfortunately it is completely reasonable that they'd just straight up remove jett. Without actually solving the problem, they're just wasting a ton of resources maintaining a class that only Global uses. Not to mention the weird Jett specific mechanics have to be specifically factored in to every patch that gets pushed through to GMS from Korea. I'm sure all of this was considered when region specific classes were first cooked up as an idea, and the consensus was something like "meh, we'll figure out how to deal with it later". Welcome to later :D
While I don't currently play Maplestory, it has been a huge part of my life growing up. Seeing how much Nexon disregards player concerns and actively makes the game worse really hurts to see. I've even been seeing community members theorizing that Nexon views GMS as a lost cause and the changes are to slowly drain it of players until they can justify shutting it down.
As a programmer myself this makes even less sense, Because retroactively removing something also takes effort and dev time away, especially in old projects where things are sometimes so interdependent that removing something that might seem unrelated can cause stuff to break. If they really wanted to save money leaving it as abandonware it would probably be cheaper to just leave things as they are. Or, to shut down the server. This just seems like a tone-deaf confusing greedy mess of decisions.
1) They wouldn't want to diversify their current player population from regular/reboot to OSMS. 2) They are afraid of failing the OSMS , and players wouldn't go back to regular/reboot. 3) They will probably just wait until the player population from regular/reboot decline greatly , only they will release OSMS . just my copium speculation.
Tbh i just mostly play as therapeutic grind on this game. It is more fun to ibvest a bit in your day so you wont be too sad on what back nexon breaks next on gms content.
I’m really dissatisfied with how everything has been handled for the last few patches. I’m still going to play the game, but I’m not going to spend any money on it, and I sure as heck wouldn’t recommend it to a friend…
Can we also address that while they are deleting multiple GMS exclusive content yet adding GMS cubes in exchange for Red and Black cubes like everyone else. Why did we make this change if we are deleting exclusive content...
I remember playing maplestory in the early days, I loved it so much. I even played with coppersan, well not played played but I used to see him around a lot back then. Seeing the game go in this direction is heartbreaking ;-;
Maple story was pretty popular in some parts of Europe during the early Runescape years. I still remember when they changed the banger of a menu sound track because the lawyers from Square Enix told them they hold the rights to the music now. The original composer of the song Eternity ~ Memory of lightwaves Sold the rights to Square enix. It is a huge shame this is not mentioned anywhere anymore.
Nexon is an absentee landlord with Maplestory. They want to put in the minimum effort they can into maintaining Maple, while still collecting a profit. I say this having lived at an apartment with an absentee landlord before -- when I lived there, it was hell to get them to come out at fix even major issues like a nonfunctioning dishwasher or water damage in the carpet. They told us that they were going to replace the appliances in every unit, but they waited for us to move out before doing that. Nexon is the same way -- Maplers have learned to just play around all the broken shit in the game, because we have no meaningful way to make Nexon do any of the desperately needed maintenance work aside from just leaving. And there is a LOT of broken shit, whose mechanics are both beneficial and detrimental to the players.
I honestly think the only reason people play maplestory is because they are addicted and have no other hobbies other than playing video games. Why would the recent stuff affect Nexon's reputation when maplestory is already so severly pay to win that they just made a non pay to win server like reboot where you STILL have to buy pets(as far as i remember). Honestly Maplestory Global should just delete everything that isnt in KMS and just be a hard copy of Kms. Atleast players wont get screwed outa content that way
For a youtuber that has been doing maple content for decade+, my respect for you has only been heightened further by this video - although I've not played maple anymore (would've really loved Reboot but geoblock), I respect your brutally honest video on this matter
I'm new to Maple, watched a bunch of your videos to get a good idea of things and legit started around a week ago give or take. Got a few classes to 70-80 to test them out and I found I loved the feel of the game and really enjoyed a specific class. Started grinding it and last night i logged on to keep going and my free pet poofed (apparently it had a duration) so now they expect me to either spend cash for a pet, or manually mash the pickup item button 4 billion times per second. I just alt+F4ed. What a new player experience. XD Intentional poor design decisions to encourage P2W is abusive and we shouldn't take it from devs. Doesn't matter if it's $5 or $500. Don't put a wall in front of people just to sell them a door through it.
Multiple available pets if you are still interested in playing: - 90-day Red Snail from the level 30 reward box in the Maple Guide - 5h Snail pet from the Reboot box in the Use tab (given on any new character); make sure you equip/unequip whenever you are not using it because it lasts a cummulative of 5hrs - 3-day Puffram (which I assume is the one you claimed) from one of the quests in the white lightbulb (I forgot the name...) - The current Fairy Bros' calendar, which I think is available starting level 101, is a stamp system where you can claim rewards every few days by staying logged in at least 1h/day and getting a stamp. There is a free 90-day (Lil'Wave or Lil'Wonky) pet as the first reward. - The boss Hilla (daily normal or weekly hard) has a chance of dropping a black box, which has either a Blackheart pet or earrings to be worn by said pet. The boss has no pre-quest, but is level-gated. I think hard mode only unlocks at level 170? - Ninja Castle PQ has a boss at the end that has a chance of dropping a 30-day Frog pet, but only accessible level 170+. - Very big updates often give free (time-limited, usually 90-day) pets you can rotate through, and revive using the free Water of Life from the Maple Rewards Shops if needed. You can obtain RP from clearing daily/weekly bosses and through other means like Monster Collection.
Everyone, please just... quit. Like straight up stop playing and move on. You're only hurting yourselves by continuing to play this. I'm just here because I want to support coppersan. Thanks for keeping it real. 🤞🏽
But sunk cost fallacy. We've spent thousands of hours (and sometimes thousands of dollars) in this game. It's kinda hard to just quit after all that. Not saying it would be the wrong choice tho. Liberating a genesis weapon is cool, but truly liberating yourself from the game by quitting is better
I wish the game was more appealing to on-and-off players. MapleStory seems to only rewards those who play 1-2 hours every day. That's very unhealthy. As much as I love OSRS, I play it on-and-off. And the good thing is that I can continue after a 3-6 months break without my character suddenly being extremely weak due to missing limited time events and/or being nerfed to the ground. All content is accessible to everyone at any given time (considering you're a member). Plus the fact OSRS only implements updates with 70%+ yes votes is amazing. Would love to see a v83 server. Fresh new game, new economy with community-drives updates (OSRS polling style). I understand money needs to be made, so make this server accessible through a monthly membership of $5-10 so there's no P2W aspect (aka: remove gambling / Gachapon system. NX = cosmetics only!). Increase respawn rates (50% more) and EXP rates (+10-20% more) slightly and make travelling instant. No one wants to sit on a boat for 25 minutes.
It's crazy to me that they keep changing the game around an item that is not obtainable anymore and a very few people have it and can take advantage of it, it bogles my mind, you either release frezy totem for anyone be able to get if they want or you change it's functionality/remove it. You don't hurt the entire game because of a few people.
You'd think this sort of BSery would also give the investors a reason for concern because just removing content like that is an unequivocal failure and when the investors get antsy, that usually means the executives will at least order for a stopgap if not just straight up putting a stop to whatever gets the investors upset.
That lawsuit is justified though. Nexon is not saying g they own game assets they are saying they own the complete picture. Just like artists don't own colors but they do end result nexons claim is that iron mace stole overall not the individual assets.
@@LemonSoulz The idea of Dark and darker comes from a certain mod, so they can't even say they own the complete picture. It's a bullshit claim they are making. Nexon truly truly is an evil greedy bastard company.
Indeed 100%. I love MapleStory and will probably never quit but I also refuse to spend even 1 cent due to all the problems you mentioned. I actively avoid and warn others to not play anything Nexon is even loosely involved with.
Coppersan: if it's so broken why even have it in the game.
Also coppersan: why did you just remove content that wasn't working 😮
(Throughout these years, each time an oversea content is added to the game, the server will experience some instabilities for sure.)
=x= I just hope they take the development of this game as a serious thing. And hope Nexon realize what is their main job..
The answer is really easy than u thought. They are KIDS they do creative, playful and don't even fking care what they've done. If those KIDS don't like it, they just need to delete it.
I mean it when I feel this. Aeria Games ruined my perspective on localizations already. Nexon is probably next on that list for just bad decisions.
I've never played maple story but as someone who has played mmos for over 15 years, I cannot fathom removing an entire class... That is INSANE.
such shit is common for the past decade. instead of adding stuff they instead remove and cut down. played MMO's in dozens and looking back, 80% em had content, mechanic or gameplay cuts
I can understand removing class spells/abilities but the outright deletion of an entire class is the most outrageous thing I've ever heard
I haven’t played MapleStory in over a decade, but they nerfed my favorite class, Buccaneer, to the ground back then and that pushed me away.
It was kinda OP since we could go Super Saiyan and basically not take damage, but it was such a good tank that you always got picked for PQs.
@@FortWorthRaised hah, I mained a corsair. It was pretty hype when big bang happened and we finally became relevant. Sorry, bucco ;)
And let's not forget that you have to spend even more money on psok's to transfer all your equipment off them
Please keep it that way. Never come back. (/positive)
The infamous name Nexon, is almost synonymous to P2W shutdown in some circles already.
I feel the same way, I actually just needed to free space and deleted ms despite playing it once. Always wanted to come back, but eh 😅
When the epitome of positivity in the community - Coppersan, says "The game is not worth playing", you know you fucked up as a company..
Bruh this company is notirious for f@$&ing up
I couldn’t agree more with you.
It is definetively not worth it, imagine spending hours of your life and money, to just get deleted cause that class isnt kms class, so they dont bother updating it
So true.

This goes for every Korean game. They always treat global as cash cows.

This shit right here is not cool and made me back away from the game completetly.
exactly thats why i get my fix elsewhere now fuck nexon.
I miss the original maple story, I liked the difficulty, the trading the inconvenient traveling and the character the game had that it since has lost

Thank you coppersan for addressing this issue. After 18 years, it is probably time for me to really consider hanging it up.

I'm so glad I quit a few months ago
Also I hope this encourages other content creators to speak out against nexon’s horrible ways. We must stand together and fight for better treatment!
Yup, I still remember waiting for pirate to drop in America, that was MS at its peak right around the time pirate class released
I miss it.
Man, I’ve started playing this game on the 2006 and it’s shame to see the direction the game is going in right now.
I played maplestory back in 2008 for a couple a years and loved it. Man i came back to try it out for nostalgia purposes a year ago and it lasted for about 3 weeks. I still watch your videos though even though i have no plans to ever return to Maple. Great reporting
This situation is literally the final nail in the coffin for MapleStory as a whole, at least in my opinion.
They actually said why they increased prices on meso shops in the patchnotes:
"
Developer Comment:
The Meso Shop was created to allow players to conveniently purchase items that are hard to obtain or items needed for enhancement.
"
So they pretty much think: "These items are BiS and you have too much meso/weekly income, so it shouldn't be an issue for your to buy them." While I do agree with that statement if we apply it to old long term players with multiples of bossing mules to profit from, new players do suffer from such changes.
aww hell naw, reg server crystal prices are way lower than reboot and they say we have more weekly income, not everyone can afford frenzy service or use auction house to earn as much as 300 mill. that's just telling the players that early progression in reg server is non-existent and move to reboot which isnt a good idea considering how much players are on reboot that they gotta actually reboot the server when there is a massive update or event that crowds the server that its not really fun anymore to even log into the server with that much people.
Thanks for the additional insight! I didn't know that frenzy was THAT OP!
Thanks for making these videos, this helps me to make decisions for my game development process!

Hi Coppersan,
You got me into Maple last August, and when I hit 260 in January amidst the cube/SF changes and totem fallout, I had "passed" your progress and started watching "sweatier" creators like Matt and Sacrix among others.
I soon quit cold turkey, feeling terrible about how much time I'd invested into a game that treats its players and breeds resentment like Nexon, with a vocal community to match..
I see you're 261 now, and I reinstalled and have 2 daily stamps on my Momentree event now. I hope to learn from your approach to finding enjoyment in a game and community bent on obfuscated progression and development, community outrage and frustration, and non-transparent creators and communications 🙏

The algorithm must have just decided I needed some Maplestory in my life cause I genuinely wasn't expecting an MS video on my timeline.
Game developers/ Publishers sometimes get so caught up in keeping things "balance" that they forget people want to have fun at the end of the day.
I'm taking a big long break on this game. The end of Jett is too sad for me..... I main Jett. I think they are the best class of the game.

Theory time, Any content that Korea MS doesn't have is going to be removed from global MS and other regions over time, that being:
Classes: Hayato, Kanna, Beast tamer.
Questlines and quests: Afterlands, Mark of Honor, Evolution System, Stellar Detective's, Hyperspace Cube, Mushroom Shrine Tales, Dream Defender, Masteria Through Time, Amorian Challenge
Dimension invasion, Tynerum Altar.
Gone.
I'm a dev so just want to explain a few things here:
Its extremely common that a system is built on a set of tools, the system ages, then those tools become old and outdated compared to modern standards.
Very solid piece. Hope more ppl can bring awarness how poorly we (GMS) are being treat.
It's sad that maplestory will likely die down with each push. It's like a slow and painful death.

Its so op that Bera and Scania currently have a Spanish mafia crisis with hoarding maps and screwing up the economy, and GMs aren’t doing anything about it. They would rather put effort in banning Duky, a player in reboot, over than something that affects way more players.
Thank you Coppersan for being the voice of us Maplers. Hopefully they’ll notice and maybe make a change for the better
They don't give a shit. Only if the whales are boycotting then they starts caring.
don't get your hopes up, for NA\EU\SEA at the very least nothing will change and as time goes this game just becomes more shitty
@@maka3230
And unfortunately the majority of the whales are in Korea, where they have a cult-like loyalty to Nexon and KMS actually gets a bit of service. There’s no hope for Maplestory globally, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they make an end of service announcement within the next ten years. (For global, not korea)
Nexon hasn't cared about the players since they acquired MS from Wizet back in the mid 2000's.
ive been playing the game for about 3 years now and when i first started playing i would always get annoyed about content removal but ive literally gotten to the point where i just dont think theres a reason to even try and get mad because nexon clearly doesnt care at all what there players in gms think or want they just want the game to be more and more like kms even tho they STILL release new region exclusive content to us and other regions constantly. im literally only still playing because im so far in that the changes honestly dont hurt me that much, it only hurts the new players which is why i literally never recommend the game to anyone thats interested in the game that sees me playing it so much which sucks because i would love to play the game with more people i know and have the game get bigger but i know that as the game is and with the new player experience constantly getting worse and worse, i would be doing anyone that askes me how the game is and if they should play a disservice recommending the game to them
Maplestory has been my favorite game since it came to america and still is. i am scared that im seeing the end of maplestory rn and it breaks my heart
As a returning player a few months back, I've stopped playing recently because of a few reasons:
First reason was because of the claims of illegal use of assets/source code against Ironmace's game, Dark and Darker.
Thanks for voicing out❤️
Nowadays whenever I stop playing Maple for a long period of time it's not because of burnout or something of the sort, but because of Nexon making their usual awful changes.
They also want to remove "trading" bosses or boss carries at all, making it significantly harder for especially newbies to get on good gear early on from lets say CRA or Absolab, or even Von Leon since those regular mobs will kill you when you arent good equipped later
In the end, the game is an absolutely nightmare for Newcomers and punishes you for going deeper into the game, which is quite the opposite what it should be
"Working with a 20 year old code base is probably hell" Yes it is.
It's disheartening to hear about Jett, my Broa main for LIFE.
they were always heard they just dont care
Super glad you made this video! Keep up the amazing work
Thank you for using your platform to speak for us!
I am only interested in the classic old school pre-big bang server so unless they are releasing that, I won't bother playing it.
If they released the 2000-2008 version of maple story I’d download it right this minute.
No you dont , dont even give them that idea . KOG did that with GrandChase and its been a shit show.
I remember playing maplestory in the early days, I loved it so much. I even played with coppersan, well not played played but I used to see him around a lot back then. Seeing the game go in this direction is heartbreaking ;-;
Nexon is great at making games that are fun into meaningless grind sessions while constantly inflating things. Thanks for everything NEXON
XD
Intentional poor design decisions to encourage P2W is abusive and we shouldn't take it from devs. Doesn't matter if it's $5 or $500. Don't put a wall in front of people just to sell them a door through it.
If you play on reboot you can get a pet from a boss idk about regular server
Multiple available pets if you are still interested in playing:
- 90-day Red Snail from the level 30 reward box in the Maple Guide
- 5h Snail pet from the Reboot box in the Use tab (given on any new character); make sure you equip/unequip whenever you are not using it because it lasts a cummulative of 5hrs
- 3-day Puffram (which I assume is the one you claimed) from one of the quests in the white lightbulb (I forgot the name...)
- The current Fairy Bros' calendar, which I think is available starting level 101, is a stamp system where you can claim rewards every few days by staying logged in at least 1h/day and getting a stamp.
I had no idea about the Jett removal. This is heartbreaking 🥺
@@chizzicle u can liberate urself from the game but u can always come back for its music 😊

Great video. Glad you're speaking up about this.
I love these type of videos
It's crazy the night and day difference with Maplestory verses Mabinogi.
Coppersan has finally dropped Nagasaki on Nexon. There's no coming back.
No one wants to sit on a boat for 25 minutes.
wait you think 1 to 2 hours is unhealthy?
It's crazy to me that they keep changing the game around an item that is not obtainable anymore and a very few people have it and can take advantage of it, it bogles my mind, you either release frezy totem for anyone be able to get if they want or you change it's functionality/remove it. You don't hurt the entire game because of a few people.
You'd think this sort of BSery would also give the investors a reason for concern because just removing content like that is an unequivocal failure and when the investors get antsy, that usually means the executives will at least order for a stopgap if not just straight up putting a stop to whatever gets the investors upset.
Glad that so many people are seeing how shady this company is, the Dark and Darker lawsuit only made it even worse for them...
