ive heard ben with different girls singing this song ive yet to find one i dont like.....they all do an amzing job and plus its amazing to think one song can have so many different sounds.

I love Regina, and I mean I really love Regina, but I also think Sara is very good, and part of the beauty of this song is that each time a different girl sings it, it gains a another new dimension. Anyway, this is RUclips, there's never going to be an end to stupidass flame wars.

In the Rehearsal video of Ben and Regina, you would be surprised at how similar Sara and Regina sound. I like the rehearsal much more, because it's got French horns that are abdfkaj

@whatmusicsfor I'm just glad to see that someone else thinks all these people's comments against Sara are completely off-base and childish.
I love Sara a whole lot, and she had the guts to know that she most likely would be compared to Regina's version with Ben, and did it anyway ... and obviously had fun in the process. Nonetheless, NO ONE can compare to Regina. Her innocence and playfulness is so natural, and her New York (Bronx) / Russian Jewish accent is just perfect for this (and frankly whatever she does). Not complaining. Just sayin.
I tend to agree , Sara’ s voice is (maybe) technically better but Regina’s has that magical quality to it

well the song definitely has elements taken from both of their styles, but i meant that the musical style was more like regina. i wasn't really referring to the lyrics, but you're right there.
and i definitely love the song, but i was hoping there would have been a more prominent piano part, considering it was merging two phenomenal pianists. oh well, it's catchy and bouncy anyway :P
i'm not trying to call you out, but just in general because it's weird so many people have been saying the same thing on this video. sara isn't trying to be regina. my guess is she was just in LA while ben folds was there, she came on stage, he let her sing and this was the part she sang. it was awesome to have her there as a surprise guest, the crowd loved it even if she's not regina. she was just having fun.

Why does everyone feel the need to be a music critic when they watch these videos? Sara B has an amazing voice. So does Regina. Can't we just leave it at that?

@lumrules Point taken. I really do like Regina, I was just surprised after all the ballyhooing that it seemed kinda average--from a strictly musical perspective. But I understand that performers bring all kinds of things to the table, including personality, that can't be objectively measured. So thanks for picking me up on that. No need for Sara and Regina fans to go to war over this one--they're both fab and together swim against the tide of what passes for pop music these days.
Regina Spektor has a very unique style of singing so replacing her is quite impossible. Nevertheless, I think Sara Bareilles is a very talented singer and does a good job by doing her own thing here instead of trying to copy Regina.

I think Sara and Ben are vocally more compatible, but I like Regina's style more. Either way both versions are great.
I gave you a thumbs up because I think getting 6 thumbs down is ridic. I don't know if she's flat, I think it might be that their vocal styles aren't fit for each other, if that makes sense.
When Ben plays the piano, his hands seem to grow extra fingers. It's fascinating; I literally can't watch anything else.

However, we might have differing opinions as to the quality of the music coming from those fingers, which is fine.

your opinion is yours, if you don't like it you don't like it, but the performance according to the studio version was pretty accurate. the timing was fine, her pitch was adequate, and she knew all four words for her part. i think you're over-analyzing.

Go listen to some songs off of ben folds five's album, "Whatever and ever amen", especially "One angry dwarf and 200 solemn faces", then you will know his true talent.. this song shows nothing, especially considering it's one of his songs as a solo artist, and not in his band.

Geez, with all the dissing of Sara by Regina fans I decided to listen to Regina's version, expecting to be totally blown away (I do like Regina) and....NOTHING. Totally underwhelmed. If my eyes were closed I would have thought it was some average amateur. The ends of her phrases just stop--no resonance whatsoever. I realize the song is a spoken/sung hybrid, but still! Sara's is vocally richer.
Again, no disrespect to Regina, but she hardly 'owns' this song, so get over yourselves Regina fans!
