Instead, the most votes go to the biggest crowdpleaser, even if it's just pleasing by way of lowest common denominator. Guy with guitar sings somewhat catchy, easily singable songs, has vaguely likable personality, gets the most votes. Sara flexes an amazing range as well as perfect timing of transitioning from tender to forceful and back to tender. unlike so many of the performers from AGT and The Voice, Sara sings in her own cocoon, lost in the world of Elton and Carole, and away from the vanity of today's cheap knockoffs. this version is amazing.

From someone whose favorite all time band is Zeppelin, this woman is amazing. I first heard of Sara Bareilles when I was taking yoga classes and the teacher kept playing "Satellite Call" during the cool down session. As good as Elton's original version is, this version tops it by miles.
Sara, when I am on empty and want to give up, your songs fill my heart with love and feelings that help me understand I am not the only one who feels the way I do. Empty, misunderstood, scared sometimes but not willing to quit the fight. You have a beautiful spirit. Thank you. For everything.
I am old enough to know this song when Sir Elton initially released it. However, this version, at this time of my life, leaving my own personal Yellow Brick Road, hit me like few pieces of music ever have. The performance is powerful, personal and perfect. Sara, you have moved me as few musicians ever have. Thank you,
I believe Elton John was put on this earth to write this song, and that Sara Bareilles was put on this earth to create the cover. Stunning Masterpiece. I'm obsessed with it.
I was just watching the movie about Elton John's life, called "Rocket Man" and came to RUclips to find the lyrics from the song "Sorry seems to be the Hardest Word" (I couldn't understand them on Netflix). I've loved Sara for many, many years! Quite a while ago, I accidently read a tweet where two of her friends or fans (not sure which) were talking about her and they talked about how much she swears (especially the 'F' word!); They were totally okay with it and thought it was funny - which it can be, because I use it often when I speak with my sister...lol. Although, that just in private, and apparently Sara says it in public, like on stage sometimes. My daughter is in her early 40's, runs her own company, and says the 'F' word in front of clients and when writing - I just find it so unprofessional! But I'm just an old lady now, so I guess I'm aging out of being 'cool' although I do still know what 'really cool' is - it's Sara Bareilles!!!
No... Bernie Taupin and Elton to come up with the original, then Sara to make it good, then Foxes and Fossils with Chase Truran to tweak the arrangement to make it great! ruclips.net/video/avIx5Cj8-8U/видео.html
I so appreciate an artist like Sara who can take one of the most beautiful songs Elton John wrote and make it her own while staying faithful to the original!
Insanely talented singer and writer. I'll admit, when I first heard "love song" on the radio years ago I thought Sara was just another mainstream female pop/indie singer. What I later found was that I had completely misjudged the depth of that song in particular, and then came to search for more of her music and realized what natural skill and creativity she fosters. I've heard "Yellow Brick Road" by Elton growing up my whole life - but it wasn't until I came across this rendition a few months ago that I was able to finally feel and understand the meaning and value of this song. Not only does she hit every note with precision, she simultaneously creates a very fluid and free sound that would seem to contrast but does not. :)
Same for me- the first song of hers I heard was Love Song. I didn't listen to the lyrics- just thought it was another catchy pop song. Then I found her other music. :)
Having been blown away by the Angelina Jordan version, I now understand that some of her best riffs are apparently from Sara. Wherever you are, Sara, I want you to have due credit and hope that your magnanimity is equal to your musical talent.
@@madgoku99 Not only that, there is a warmth in Angelina's voice that is pretty remarkable for one so young. Sara's cover of Elton John's song is amazing. Ya wonder if someone could top that but along comes Angelina and upsets the apple cart. I love the arrangement, by the way.

This is one of those songs where you're surprised to see what the actual lyrics are. You've been singing it wrong for 30 years. There are a few unconventional lyrics that sounded much different in your head.
I’ve listened to this so many times over the past few years and the thing that always stands out for me is wondering what was going through the minds of the audience members. Did they realise that they were witnessing something truly incredible? It’s one of the most original and amazing cover versions of a song that I’ve ever heard! So much envy for the people who saw this live.
I was in this audience when this was recorded (camera pans over me singing along a few times haha). The entire show was such a love letter to her fans. I was a big fan before, I became a superman after. I cried several times during the performance, awestruck by how good she was (and is). Writing Waitress and her starring turn in Into the Woods only proved it even more to me. So excited for anything she does next.
The energy in the room. You could almost feel the electricity in the air, how every single person was taking part in that powerful moment- or rather, grabbed into it, heart, body and soul. To have been there.
What makes this is its poise, always in the moment , the years of skills and experience carry the song technically, freeing the artist to soar and bond the audience to the performance. This is high art- it’s beautiful.
It's a beautiful touch and makes my chest tighten too, a gossamer thin vocal filled with plaintive yearning made all the more poignant because it comes immediately after the huge belting notes that filled the hall
I grew up on Elton John and this makes me love Sara even more. She turned it into something new and different - i was on the edge of my seat the entire time.....notice every single person in the audience is QUIET - that's when you know you've got them hook, line and sinker.....props to Sara - she really is an amazing musician

Goosebumps squared every time I hear this. The audience reaction says it all. Similar to the crowd response to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You". Stunned silence. I'd love to hear from someone who witnessed this live that evening.
It doesn’t matter what the ballad is. If Sarah Bareilles is singing it I am close to tears from the first verse. It’s such an incredible gift she has. This and Once Upon Another Time and Gravity are just monumentally powerful and moving.
Man....look at this performance. Audience sitting in there seats. Completely mesmerized by the insane amount of talent and work this woman has, and has completed, during her career.
Probably THE perfect live performance. I have heard a lot over the last four decades, but this is truly outstanding. I cannot listen to this without crying from 3:14 on.
Omg. The Power. The Soul. The Heart. The passion. Everything Sir Elton wanted... needed. Somehow better than the original, and the original was phenomenal.

YEAH! it's amazing version..Angelina"cute, young & beautiful"Jordan just smash this amazing version. Many music lover said that.
@@ruebendejesus7039 Angelina's face is so beautiful, and angelic she is tall, and elegant, she is so versatile, she can sing jazz, oldie, classics, country, She changed Sara's version, jazzed it up made it better. did not copy it.
@@leebrn8588 , i agree 100% to comment. Angelina is the beauty and the best.
@@leebrn8588 the piano player copied Sara and Angelina's version lacks the depth of Sara's version. Not only that, her pronunciation is atrocious. She does have a lovely voice though I agree, I hope she will work with the same technique that Sara works with.
Elton John has referenced Sara's version, saying, it is the best rendition he's ever heard.
I don't need air conditioning. I just listen to this and get chills.
From someone whose favorite all time band is Zeppelin, this woman is amazing. I first heard of Sara Bareilles when I was taking yoga classes and the teacher kept playing "Satellite Call" during the cool down session. As good as Elton's original version is, this version tops it by miles.
There were about a thousand amazing decisions during that performance. Really brilliant.
***** Yes, exactly--you get it! Sara always makes really strong, intelligent choices (decisions) in her covers and that's what makes them so inspired!
Wow! So haunting and so beautiful. No wonder Sir Elton John himself was blown away by this!
heidimsw she does alright hey
The way that the piano slows this song down is genius, talk about laid back energy, this is just stunning.
Sara, when I am on empty and want to give up, your songs fill my heart with love and feelings that help me understand I am not the only one who feels the way I do. Empty, misunderstood, scared sometimes but not willing to quit the fight. You have a beautiful spirit. Thank you. For everything.
How has it taken me 7 years to find this? Dunno, but by god it was worth the wait.
Me too.
11 years here
I am old enough to know this song when Sir Elton initially released it. However, this version, at this time of my life, leaving my own personal Yellow Brick Road, hit me like few pieces of music ever have. The performance is powerful, personal and perfect. Sara, you have moved me as few musicians ever have. Thank you,
You cannot have said it better.
엘튼 존의 원곡 보다 더 좋다.
I believe Elton John was put on this earth to write this song, and that Sara Bareilles was put on this earth to create the cover. Stunning Masterpiece. I'm obsessed with it.
Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics, while Elton did the music.
@@MzMaddy33 I agree, it's a sad sad situation, it's quite obserd..
No... Bernie Taupin and Elton to come up with the original, then Sara to make it good, then Foxes and Fossils with Chase Truran to tweak the arrangement to make it great! ruclips.net/video/avIx5Cj8-8U/видео.html
How blessed… seriously how can a voice be that strong and pure? Amazing
Never tire of coming back to this version of a great song, time and time again. Simply sublime.
This woman is simply a gift to music. I'm glad to be alive during her timeline.
What !!!!! She is destroying a good song
No way this is amazing i love it!
I got the chills. She sings it so beautifully.
it's 2022, and I still go back to listen to sara and this elton john cover every time. sara is the best!
Yes she's beautiful.
2023 for me
I so appreciate an artist like Sara who can take one of the most beautiful songs Elton John wrote and make it her own while staying faithful to the original!
:)
Realize Real Lies a
Same for me- the first song of hers I heard was Love Song.
Angelina voice using sara arrangement really kills it.
I agree!!!!!!!
I loved both
Angelina can’t even hold Sara’s hat.
That's the first time I have actually understood the lyrics of this song. Simply beautiful!
You and me both. She made it so clear. I play the song numerous times. Very powerful and honesty telling to move forward. 🙏
What a rare and phenomenal talent. She puts talentless so-called artists like Swift and Beyonde' to shame!
When are you gonna come down?
When are you going to land?
I should have stayed on the farm
I should have listened to my old man
You know you can't hold me forever
I didn't sign up with you
I'm not a present for your friends to open
This boy's too young to be singing, the blues
So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road
What do you think you'll do then?
I bet that'll shoot down your plane
It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics
To set you on your feet again
Maybe you'll get a replacement
There's plenty like me to be found
Mongrels who ain't got a penny
Sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground
So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse

Definitely written by Bernie, I wish more of his personal story was in Rocketman.
Like anyone is going to be able to sing along! 😅😂. Seriously, thanks for the lyrics though.
Of course they did. You can see by the collective look in their eyes and the standing-O.... I believe they knew.
Oh, they knew. The collective silence during the performance speaks volumes. As does the standing ovation.
Would have loved to have been there...
She's done songs from Carole King, Jesus Christ Superstar, among numerous other songs
That last sustained note she sang... man, shivers all over.
The energy in the room. You could almost feel the electricity in the air, how every single person was taking part in that powerful moment- or rather, grabbed into it, heart, body and soul. To have been there.
So true
Back for my next 6 monthly obsession with this performance
Same.
Same.
I've been glued to this for 3 months---I feel like my 6 monthly obsession begins again every day. I'm haunted.
Same!
What makes this is its poise, always in the moment , the years of skills and experience carry the song technically, freeing the artist to soar and bond the audience to the performance. This is high art- it’s beautiful.
Your description is right on the money
Agreed, even after hitting a wrong note, she pressed on!
She is an astonishing talent. This rendition is always a fresh revelation, no matter how many times I've heard it. Outstanding.
You know it's perfection when you can hear a pin drop. Absolute perfection.
I know. The audience was .
Emotion overflows
This is the best cover of a song ever. Right????
That soft high note at 4:03 immediately made me cry
It's a beautiful touch and makes my chest tighten too, a gossamer thin vocal filled with plaintive yearning made all the more poignant because it comes immediately after the huge belting notes that filled the hall

AMEN SISTER!
She added notes to the chords to give the song a more zazz feeling on purpose. She is brilliant!
i've never heard "toad" sound that good in a song...
I grew up on Elton John and this makes me love Sara even more. She turned it into something new and different - i was on the edge of my seat the entire time.....notice every single person in the audience is QUIET - that's when you know you've got them hook, line and sinker.....props to Sara - she really is an amazing musician
A big Elton fan too and she did him justice.
Elton is good, this is something unique and equal.
The woman singing along in the audience in the beginning was so cute
She looked so sad :(
+Rebekah Salander. Who looked so sad? It's a very moving performance that had everyone spellbound. I won't even say how you "look".
+Craig Gomez No, like she looked solemn. Chill bud.
+sarah leverage YOU look so cute!
This is a song that so many can sing along to.
Two of the most recognizable and gifted voices on the planet finally unite to give us all one the most spectacularly magical moments in the history of TV. Sublime!
Elton John himself said this was his favourite cover version of one of his songs.
Yes, but he likely hasn't heard the version by Fossils and Foxes
I'm in the hospital right now. I'll give it a proper listen when I get home.

Today, on 20 other things that never happened...
I love how the audience are just mesmerized by her performance. Great singer and personality.
God this breaks me down into tears every time. I absolutely love this cover.
Goosebumps squared every time I hear this. The audience reaction says it all. Similar to the crowd response to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You". Stunned silence. I'd love to hear from someone who witnessed this live that evening.
The VERY BEST VERSION EVER.
Good but not the best version
I think it is great, but I think Abi from 2024 American Idol just, somehow, topped it!
@@Northandsouthsewing. Abi disparage her “version”. The talent lies in the arrangement not just the voice.
It doesn’t matter what the ballad is. If Sarah Bareilles is singing it I am close to tears from the first verse. It’s such an incredible gift she has. This and Once Upon Another Time and Gravity are just monumentally powerful and moving.
There are no words that could express how amazingly beautiful and completely soulful that was. Brought chills and tears

Elton was impressed. This song saved my life in 70’s
crazy talented ... beyond words. her range is something else... her vocal styling ... emotion ... so good

Arguably the best cover I’ve ever heard in my life. So much love for THIS audio. This recording, here on this day. Beautiful.
This is a very unique, brave, creative and deep cover version, beautifully sung. Thank you for it!
Nobody EVER needs to cover this song again! Sublime, perfection. Her voice knocks my socks off, WOW!
I was so captivated by her voice, I put my shoes on, and started to walk outside with no pants on.
Why is this the first ive heard of Sara she should be everywhere.
This, on every level, simply stuns. Amber surely made Donna proud. The musicians were amazing.
My favorite! It’s like its taking me to another dimension where just quiet and peace and just pure light and full heart.
