Ben has never had the best voice. But it is unique, and he is a musical freaking genius. It wasn't a lie when she said he knows everything. His technical proficiency for piano pop is unmatched.
I don't know about that. He used to sing a lot better. Years of aggressive touring and bad habits have messed up the way he sings. You should look up some of his older performances to get an idea of the prodigious pipes he has. It's annoying the way his voice is now, because I still get the feeling he hasn't actually done damage to his voice - he just needs to take some time off and relearn how to sing.
Hunter Poelsma I agree that his voice use to be better in his earlier years, but I saw him recently at the Sydney Opera House and he was f-ing brilliant. His voice is still up there for me.
I just saw him in Melbourne and he was brilliant there too. He always seems to sound better live than he does in studio recordings of the same year or so. I really dislike the way he has been recording since around Songs for Silverman, where he seems to be right up on the mic and much louder in the mix. If you compare the way he recorded his voice in the first two BFF albums with The Sound of the Life of the Mind it's more clear what I mean. His presence in the mix is completely different!
I'd greatly appreciate it if some Sara & Ben fans would check out my channel for live piano & vocal covers of classic 80s/90s songs... i do the performances without any electronic audio equipment, using only the piano, my voice, and the acoustics of the room. Thanks and please pardon the self promo.
i love these two. it's so awesome because like ben folds is MUSIC THEORY GOD and knows so much about music and how it all works logically, and sara, before her first album at least, never took piano nor singing lessons and just worked with what sounded good and made incredible music and just oh god i love them both
This wasn't off melodically/rhythm wise. It's just adjusted. That's what you do when you change the style of the song, especially in Jazz. Plus, you really have to appreciate the harmonic additions/changes they added into the arrangement. It's meant to sound different. Most of the renditions out there are just the same.
I found this video on complete accident and am very glad I did. I hadn't even know that The Sing-Off ever had existed or that SARA BAREILLES, the singer of one of many of my favorite childhood songs ("Love Song," "King of Anything" & "Uncharted" are some) AND BEN FOLDS, whom I discovered through Mr. Charlie McDonnell's music video for his song "Saskia Hamilton" singing "BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE" on television. I have been living under a rock. Sorry for the excessive amount of capital letters.
I'm really mad this show got cancelled. It was a show where the singers had to put on a show and couldn't hide behind instruments. The judges themselves were amazing singers and didn't just judge them one what they heard, but they compared it to what was written in the music (they all got song sheets). It really sucks that when unique television shows come on they get cancelled to make room for generic garbage.
My childhood dreams just came true right there. See? The spokesperson was all like so blown away by that, that he was totally speechless and the only thing he could think to say was "yes" xD
The only thing I can say "bad" about this performance is that Ben Fold's voice is not "dancing" with Sara's that well. Sara's voice is much more pure and bold, then Ben's is more subtle and calm. They weren't really blending well because of that. And also, the rhythm section is really not swinging like AT ALL. Kevin is a great percussionist and all but his drumming were still feeling like straight eights. Yeah he was hitting 2 and 4 but he needed to exaggerate more I guess. Bass player/voice was killing it though, like damn. Other than those things, everything was good. Rhythm was good, tempo was on point, it just felt a bit less swinging and it was not blending well.
Sara: Ben Folds... that name.... Ben Folds laundry, that's what he should do. Ben's voice sounds like a baby coyote inhaled helium and he's howling at the moon. Oh I'm Ben and I'm so smart and I use big words and know everything about music! Hahaha and her mouthing "Oh my God" in the background! HAhahahahahaha! That's my girl! Was having a bad day. This is the perfect remedy. Three people don't know humor. xD
it's funny how people are too stupid to realize that this was a phenomenal performance, just very tedious because of the tempo. it was never off-- they're suppose to be singing together during some parts. this was a very good performance. both parts did very well and sounded great together. I do wish there was more of a romantic theme to it, even if it was completely fake. overall, 4.5 stars;)
lol lol lol when the Alto sounds lower than the guy at times and wow she went all out. she did the heavy lifting. The guy at the piano was the accessory. During practice he sounded better because he was doing more with his range. don't be afraid to get up there, man!
I think the a cappella group behind them made the performance sound a little off. That and Ben coming in a little soon on some parts. The whole thing could have been put together a little better, but Sara was amazing she stole the show.
Sara's got a great sense of humor. Watch her 'Ode to Jersey Shore' (aka Merry Christmas Jersey) and her newly penned pirate song 'He's Just an Asshole' and no doubt you'll agree.
Not bad. Great older tune from the '40's. However, a really creative version was done by Drew Holcomb, a great independent artist, and his wife Ellie. Absolutely adorable!! Plus, it has a little bit more of a pace and rhythm. Can't post it here, but search "Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, It's Cold Outside." BTW, while your there, check out his video "Good Light." Official version. This guy is special. Just saw them live with Needtobreathe. Awesome.
I'm in love w/ sara. I think she should try a song w/ n.s. acapella. I really think her and guy chiaponni would sound great together. as for ben, wellllllll. we'll just leave it at that. doo wop wiz

Ben cracking up on the "if you get pneumonia and died" line was classic. They should do a whole Christmas song album together.
Very funny both !! I love when Sara says " Oh my God " in silence when he was singing !! She is a great comediant !!
i love these two. it's so awesome because like ben folds is MUSIC THEORY GOD and knows so much about music and how it all works logically, and sara, before her first album at least, never took piano nor singing lessons and just worked with what sounded good and made incredible music and just oh god i love them both
5 years after, it still gives me goosbumps
If there was a Ben and Sara show I'd watch it.
Oh my gosh. I snorted.
The opening to this is just hilarious.
Musicians, Plain and simple. Musicians.....and OH so lovely.
Sara! No wonder she's my favourite singer/songwriter¬!
Well, it's official. Sara can do everything! She could do stand-up comedy whenever she wants..... and she never looked better.

sara is so good.. holy
From left to right, perfect harmonies along with a fabulous "band"!
I LOVE her dress!!!
Ben Folds is one of my favorite artists.
Having said that, I'll admit Sara Bareilles has a stronger voice.
In the spirit of Ben and Sara, this is EFFING hilarious, and I am laughing my ASS off! ;)
Oh, and the singing kicks butt too!
she sounded ahmazinggg

That set is gorgeous...
I love them both!
It blows my mind that Ben and Sara haven't ever put out a full collaboration album together.
So Much fun to watch and listen to.
My right ear is lonely...
I know right
I thought my headphones were broken XD
So true
omg her voice is beeeaauutiful

MY BABY KEVIN
This was really cute :)
Ooh, Sara and Ben in HD quality. :D I love~
haha these two are so funny XD
so delightful...
I like IT!!
I love Sara Bareilles
damn Sarah is looking beautiful
matthew boyd if you read her book, she says she hated how the people at the Sing-Off forced her into clothes and makeup she didn’t want to wear.
I love you Sara haha..she is funny! I adore her!!
I love Ben Folds' spirit, but I'd love to hear an album of his songs performed by singers like Sara Bareilles.
I love this version too. she can sing.
3:35 so much yes
That would be amazing!!!
Nice job by Sara, but I'll take the Ray Charles and Betty Carter version.
It's coming back!!!!
Wow, Sara is funny, beautiful and has a fantastic voice.
wishing you the best for new years eve with your weather. stay out of the snow
I love how at 4;38 Ben laughs when he says "what if you get pneumonia and die"!
yes.
KEVIN FROM PENTATONIX
OMG! Quarantine just gets better and better 😂🤣😂
Sara, I love you.
Lah dah, da-da-dah, da-da-dah,
Ben and Sara
@MattPerezMusic Thank you for the correct title!! Just looked it up on Amazon and bought the album there.
Shocking !

Sara does a wonderful job, but my god, it was like that part was written for Ben Folds. He's literally perfect for this.
This is my second favorite version of this song, only behind Zach Braff and Donald Faison. That's about as high as the praise gets from me.
It's not Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone, but it's enjoyable. And the banter at the beginning was cute.
That was pretty damn good.
My childhood dreams just came true right there.
See? The spokesperson was all like so blown away by that, that he was totally speechless and the only thing he could think to say was "yes" xD
Not only that, but they all had been a part of a capella groups in the past. AUGH.
I want Ben Folds to do a Jazz piano Trio album
kevin is in the background
release a freaking Christmas album, Sara!
The only thing I can say "bad" about this performance is that Ben Fold's voice is not "dancing" with Sara's that well. Sara's voice is much more pure and bold, then Ben's is more subtle and calm. They weren't really blending well because of that.

her bit in the skit reminded me of tina fey. her love of 30 rock is apparent :)
These two should have their own show where they just sing and be sarcastic all the time and do shake weight warm ups.
Aww, Kevin from Pentatonix was co-beatboxing. :)
Sara: Ben Folds... that name.... Ben Folds laundry, that's what he should do.

that was sickkkkkkkkkkkk

@tennisballchucker you can actually lol
it's on iTunes, just type in "The Sing-Off, Season 3: A Sing-Off Christmas"
Winter :)
This comment would make an English teacher cry.
If you never heard of the Sing Off and you haven't checked out Pentatonix I highly recommend you do!
omg.
Dang, Ben on dat piano doe. Amazing!
Don't worry! It's renewed for a fourth season!! :D
omg sean's reaction
lol lol lol when the Alto sounds lower than the guy at times and wow she went all out. she did the heavy lifting. The guy at the piano was the accessory. During practice he sounded better because he was doing more with his range. don't be afraid to get up there, man!
even the host can sing.
such a quiet video!!!
GODDAMN IT THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST COMMENTS I'VE EVER READ
I spy part of Pentatonix LOL
I think the a cappella group behind them made the performance sound a little off. That and Ben coming in a little soon on some parts. The whole thing could have been put together a little better, but Sara was amazing she stole the show.
Well, that's not biased at all...
1:08 Oh my God!
Before you judge Ben Folds's voice, listen to Uncle Walter or Sports and Wine. :)
Sara's got a great sense of humor. Watch her 'Ode to Jersey Shore' (aka Merry Christmas Jersey) and her newly penned pirate song 'He's Just an Asshole' and no doubt you'll agree.

I like when they cut to Gryffindor at 5:13
She sang a capella in college. I believe that included singing lessons.
how much longer to go babe? will this ever end?
Sara was extra beautiful that night.... wow.
her eyes look like princess Kate's eyes.
I mean the show called the voice where all the judges are musicians
The rehearsal sounded better to me.
Wait, maybe this is the best comment I've ever read...
The best part of it would be the intro......
#savethesingoff #getnickabetterwriter
