This was epic ⭐ The idea of having a hood move into a subhood with geographical logic is so awesome - I think I watched a video by Jessa back in the day where she had done similarly, and I find it so impressive. Especially with having the river connecting like you have, really clever. Having a whole subhood for a career like this is so fascinating as well. I loved to see how you've built, planned and played all of it. So inspiring ❤ You should be so proud of this project it's awesome. Thank you so much for inviting us in for a short visit.
Thanks Ani! Since I custom make all of the terrains in Sim City 4, I can actually have them line up fairly perfectly. SC4 has a function where you make the terrain edges match the adjacent tiles so it's literally a perfect match. I'll do something similar for our Downtown terrain when it comes time for that, it will probably connect into Hansen River main via the double road "highway" that flows into town.

This is so interesting, I'd never think of having a subhood dedicated to a career like that! I think its fun to have variety within a hood like for some sims you do just follow their wants but with others they have very pre-decided lives and schedules. Your builds are lovely, I've never tried to do a build from a real life reference so I should try that if I'm ever stuck for inspiration. I hope to see Hansen River again maybe when several years have passed in the hood :)
I've been struggling to get my BACC rolling and was going to give up due to boredom and confusion when I found this little series of videos. Now I'm inspired and cannot wait to give the BACC another try. Thank you so much for sharing your spreadsheet!
You created such organic and interesting stories in this world and your sims feel real. Love the way you say, "I don't know these sims yet, they just moved in." Excited to watch more of your videos.
This is so goooood! I love the different rules for different levels of the military, and the general’s house is gorgeous. I’m so inspired, the rules for this part of the BACC had me a little scared, but now I can see how amazing it could be ❤ I could watch tours of your hoods all day

Wow, I'm speechless from this creativity! This was SUCH an interesting introduction into Military integrated syste, thank you so much! I always admire simmers who put so much work into setting all of this up, because for me the hardest part is actually building the world 😅
Some ideas to your question about romantic relationships between higher ranking officers and beginner level military:
1) In general I think they should be forbidden, like in real life. It messes up with discipline and order of thing, and the military would def be against it;
2) But since everything forbidden is THAT much more appealing, this kinds of relationships would happen, but remain a secret. Like maybe they would leave the base to go on dates, but if someone from military were to spot them on a community lot, there would be a chance of this sim telling on the couple to their commanders etc. As a result, demotion or even getting fired, depending on the disparity between the job levels of the couple.
3) Only serious relationships would be made exceptions for (engagement or marriage), but for sims that are level 3 or higher. I think drill sergeants could live off the barracks lot and just come in the morning to drill the lower ranking military, if drill sergeant were married to a military sim that has a house. But before a permission from the general could be granted, both sims wanting to get married and live together would have to learn couples counseling (like they do in the church or other establishments to see how compatible the couple actually is) and maybe even parenting to prove their commitment to start a family and not just mess around.
Also, LOVE your idea of a boarding school. I'm in process of doing it in my PleasantCove Village (Pleasantview+ Belladonna Cove+ Bluewater Village), and it should replace the private school. So all of the private school kids would have to move to another lot and live there from Monday to Friday, so that they would know each other very well (richie richs sticking together from the early years 🤣). I'm thinking of making it cost 10K for each age. Like one time payment for children and one time for teens. Not all of the sims would afford it, so only the truly rich would go to private school.
But back to your hood, do you plan to make the general retire early? I don't know how it's done in Australia, but in my country generals used to not give up their cushy job till the last breath, resulting in a lot of old, almost senile aged generals. Although astronauts, I think, would be required to leave the post almost immediately.
I may be mistaken, but I think on military bases they have a tight knit community, and the spouses of military personnel always have to communicate with one another, because they have no one else around. Did you ever watch the TV series "Army wives"? There would ALWAYS be spouses sitting in a bar, drinking with each other and playing card games and gossiping about the military way of life, while the military would have their own places to go and mingle with the military crowd.

Thank you so much for the insights on military relationships, I loooove your ideas and absolutely agree that anything which is forbidden is immediately oh so appealing... this will make for some great potential future storylines 😏😏 Maybe the couple in the barracks could get married because they are the same rank, and then to continue their relationship if they get promoted would be deemed acceptable if they appealed to the General. Maybe sims will have to try to butter up the General to get approved for marriage if they fall in love with lower ranking sims, or while they're in the barracks... yeah, I'm definitely going to use some of this in my future gameplay!
The military school I was also thinking would be kind of like a private school, and yes sims would have to pay lots of money to send their kids there. I can see some of the sims in the main hood maybe wanting to send their kids to Military School if they act out haha. I'll work out how to fund it, and then probably make that happen.
The General will probably work until well into his Elderhood. I can see him wanting to hold onto that post for as long as possible... but yeah, I can see Astronauts having to retire earlier if they get too old!
And YES, I am actually planning on having Ivy or Tosha start a "Military Wife Club" or maybe a "Military Mum's Group" or something like that, and having them catch up regularly. I can definitely see that happening and was going to set it in motion in my next round 😁

YES! Buttering up the General could be set up like the headmaster scenario: you throw a party, and within that timeframe the couple has to befriend both the General AND the wife (military person the General and non-military the wife), then it could be a 100% chance of approval. If only one of them manages to befriend the General/wife, then 50/50% and you flip a coin, and if neither of them befriended either General or his wife, then sorry, no marriage for you or you loose your job.
Damn, I can already see the "Military Wife Club" raising money for charity selling baked goods or having book clubs, where no one reads books, but drinks from the bar 🤣🤣
I definitely see thay you play basically 3 games in one. The cc shopping / hunting is one, the spreadsheet simulator is another yet the same, and the game itself.
Really intriguing and entertaining all of them. And i love that you share it witb so much details. 💖

And thank you 💗 I hope you won't lose too much by restarting! My gameplay has developed over time with this hood; I definitely didn't have it all figured out right from the get-go. I tried starting a more organised BACC once (when Hansen River was broken) and I decided I missed my Sims too much and had to rebuild the hood instead lol.

this dropped at the PERFECT time! i was just about to set up a military for General Buzz! i adore how in depth your gameplay is. and all the little systems you have. even the punishments thing is so cool, and i never would've thought of something like that.
to be honest, don't feel pressured to create lots of content for this hood! just seeing little glimpses in these show and tells is enough

I genuinely find it hard to comprehend how creative you are, Beth! All your ideas and the way you execute them are so interesting and I don't want to stop watching your videos. I really enjoyed this tour! I totally agree with playing loosely wants-based - I tend to mostly follow wants but I like to also focus on my sims lifetime wants (either the in-game ones or ones that I've made up) because imo its more fun to have a goal I'm working towards with each sim!
Yes I definitely agree that taking lifetime wants into account is a great way to add in some extra gameplay and think about what the sims would want to do and achieve! Great point 😊
I actually love this idea so much! It wasn't in the rules I was following for my BACC but I've decided to add it in because I would really like to try and play a separate military hood in this way! I'm going to try and copy some of your builds (if I can) because I'm not a great builder and I really admire your style! Is there any chance you've uploaded some of the lots (like your barracks) anywhere? (I checked the description and watched the whole video before asking this time, unlike with the school LOL!)

I don't think I can embark on BACC just yet since it's a huge undertaking and I am naturally so unstructured with my sims play, but I finally have a Pleasantview rotation going and I just organized my mods with your cc folder structure. This will be my next challenge for sure!

33:03 For the question of what to do if a sim in the barracks wants to get married. In the American military, you can get married at any time unless you’re at basic training. When a service member gets married, they move out of the barracks and into base housing, which housing they are assigned to is dependent on rank and family size, but for lower ranks it’s like a small two bedroom apartment, or if they have more kids, typically a duplex with three or four bedrooms. As they get higher in rank, their homes get nicer and are typically stand alone buildings, rather than connected to eachother. This is my experience living on an overseas US military base, and it could be different based on location.

Reminds me of old console versions also had these military themed locations and missions that were fun additions that you visit as a player.
Lets face it if there is a country or region it have it's own military base one way or another. And now I don't know how is it with other countries but know that plenty have excursions where kids and students get to visit some base in their lifetime more then once also parades are a thing so we all one way or another have access and experience it.
Growing up with Sims 1, I still struggle to play in a way that not everybody gets their successful happy family ending. I'm super micromanagey in terms of needs and relationships and aspiration. I think ROS will help but I also need to make sure I don't just veto bad rolls or something lol
Yes I suffer from this problem too 😅🙈 That's a big part of why I brought in the ROS - and if a ROS ever feels too much, I reserve the right to VETO it! Honestly, just making the game fun for you is the most important thing.
Now I gotta start this challenge in Sims 2 😮

It was so interesting to see how you organized all of this! With the different lives and houses for every rank and rules to match. Really inspiring. I remember downloading the modern monolith a while back, because I found it so inspiring for modern builds. Lovely to see it in this video again. All of your houses in this neighborhood are really, really beautifully built and decorated. 😍

For them to eat where you want them to I think there is like a table controller mod that allows you to do that or a mod that allows you to put like different areas of needs so it might allow you to make them eat there.
Hmm that's a good thought and I do have the table controller mod. The problem is, they're not actually eating at a table when they go back up to their apartment, they're just eating on their couch!

Thanks Maks! Yeah its going to be interesting to have so many of my sims aging up into Elders in the next round or two! - I can see them having lots of clubs, meetings, committees, and maybe someone will establish a hobby centre (probably the Bertinos!)

I really liked your tour of your private BACC! I always find it interesting to see other peoples playstil, especially whole careers played out.
About the problem with the food in the apartmets at 25:30. Do you have the mod FoodServeEatMod? Because this mod makes it, so that if a sim is inside an apartment suite, they will only consider using objects within that apartment suite to prepare, cook, serve, eat or drop food. This prevents sims from wandering out of the apartment suite they are in. *copied from mts*
So maybe they take the food upstairs because this mod.

This was so incredible to see. Just all the work you've put into setting this base up, it's actually really helped me think about a secret lab deal I've got planned for a future BACC. Definitely gonna be referring to this a lot! Also, I've really enjoyed having you take us around and meet everyone and get a glimpse of this world, but I totally know how important it is to have something just for yourself, though I am here for random little updates haha
On the subject of the eating issue on your counter intelligence lot. I seem to have deleted it from my own downloads (probably a freak accident when clearing out the folder ages ago, I'll be fixing that), and it may have already been suggested here (if you don't already have it), but there's a mod called "Better locations for eating" on MTS by dickhurt. Specifically geared towards smarter eating locations on apartment lots. And in general keeps sims from wandering too far to eat food. Might be what you need :)
**as a heads up, it is an older mod (2009) so there may be a more modern/updated version somewhere but I'm not aware of any yet

I think from counter inteligence and up I would let them move into the home of their partner. Taking the fansiest house for the house hold. I would let married people move together in the CT appartment. And just have the appartment empty to there were still only 4 CT slot to fill.

I think to live in CIHQ, you have to be a CI Officer simply because their work is so confidential. So if a couple was married before one becomes CI, they'd have to live seperately until flight officer was acheieved. Rough, but confidentiality must be enforced!!

OK. I have watched it all the way through now. This is inspirational, but I agree - I like hearing about how you play the game - but its good for you to have your private game private. The military district is very interesting - a little too regimental for me, but definitely military minded! I think with married folks for levels at the barracks - they live at the barracks, but spend their non-work days at their home with their non-military spouse, or both live at the barracks if they're both military - I think that's kind of like what I gathered happens in real life? I love your discussion of wants-based play, and extensions to that. It does seem like a wonderful way to play!

And thank you, I definitely played extremely wants-based for a while but it was just far too restrictive for me and honestly ended up taking a lot of the fun out of the game for me. I've been enjoying it a lot more since re-introducing more of the ways I originally played The Sims :)

@@TeaAddict I’m currently looking over your tracking sheet and tweaking it before I start. In the careers tab, what are the single stats beside some of the careers and locked/unlocked section? Also, the ones that say unlocked, are they jobs that are unlocked from the start?

This is so cool, you've inspired me to add a military district (or rather turn my existing Strangetown subhood into one). Since sims can't live in your military disctrict if they aren't in the military unless they are married to a military member, how will you handle the living situation if the military spouse dies? Will the spouse and kids be forced to move out?
Yes! The surviving widow would sadly be forced to relocate
Your reprimand system seems... a little tame. My uncle was a diving instructor in the US navy and he was giving my parents and I a tour of the ship he was serving on and we came to a door that was left unlocked that was definitely supposed to be locked. The was the room their diving gear was kept in. My uncle then proceeded to take their goggles and fins and pull them apart and throw them all over the room. My dad was like, "you didn't do all of them" and he was like "oh they'll all be punished" still to this day my uncle hasn't told us what he made them do at their next lesson.
Haha it probably is a bit tame!! I'll have to come up with someore creative solutions... Running the obstacle course in underwear maybe?? 😅
Not sure if anyone has commented yet, but there absolutely is a mod to make Sims in apartment lots come out of their apartments for certain needs. I'm not sure if it'd solve the going back to the apartment to eat though. I wanna say it's by iCad?

Very random ask but, could you possibly share your neighbourhood camera settings with me? 😅 I’ve tried tweaking them lots of times to get that nice smooth scroll like I see in the first 30 seconds or so, and for some reason I’ve had a lot more difficulty with the neighbourhood cam than the lot cameras! In the hood my camera always seems to want to zoom so fast!
Sure haha, I actually tweaked it before making these videos to be slower so I have to remember how to change it back anyway 🤣 I'm not at my PC until later tonight but I will have a look when I can x Will DM you on Tumblr.
Do you use any controller for your barracks? Im giving it a shot but i feel like 60% of the time the game is paused queueing up actions for everyone and it really kills the pacing

They immediately move into the General's residence and make that house their own 😊The Military life often involves a lot of moving house!

I don't know who else to ask. But i saw that ypu use a lot of custom content. My folder is only 1,5gb "small" but my game crashes after 20 min playing. I just installed it and got the mods ready. I honestly have no idea what to do since I really wanna play it again.
Troubleshooting a crashing game can be a pain, because it can be due to a variety of different things.
Firstly, have you definitely got the 4gb patch applied? (Google if you don't know what that means).
Secondly, does it still crash if you temporarily remove your Downloads folder?
If your game is still crashing without your downloads folder in, your problem is probably due to 4gb patch or your Graphics Rules Maker settings.
If your game doesn't crash without your Downloads folder in, you can assume that the problem lies within your Downloads folder.
In that case, you might want to do something we call the 50/50 method where you test your game by removing 50% of your Downloads folder at a time (cut/paste, don't delete!) until you whittle down to whatever is causing the crash.

I mostly play wants based, but to that I add motivation levels, hobbies and like you if I feel a particular sim would do or not do something I may at times make that happen.
I think as well since I give the sims traits (but they don't come with custom wants / fears) I'm getting even looser with playing wants-based... cos now I bring traits into account too!
