    I will say the mod page says it wasn't made for multiplayer, obviously I wouldn't say this is an ideal playthrough of it but just judging based on it is all

    To back The Anomaly here, I feel as though the longer duration that it takes to kick in and start doing more scarier stuff is definitely more so a positive than a negative. The reason it kinda failed in this video is because it was focused more so on The Anomaly than actually having it be a background entity. It's supposed to have the time to build up and increase in severity to the point that it is more of a threat or spooky. If not having the time to hit certain events like it did when it kicked Andy out of his own world. In a sea of Boiled Ones, Cave Dweller Knock Offs, etc it is refreshing to have something that doesn't immediately interrupt the flow of gameplay come night one so you're forced to skip the night or hide away where nothing can get you. You're given the chance to initially get spooked by it, get used to it and then watch as it comes back with new tricks to mess with you all over again.
    To say that it should start right away, somewhat feeds into the Cave Dweller Cycle where mods don't typically have a set premise and get all thrown together more so to be used by RUclipsrs for one off videos or "horror packs" which don't try anything new and feeds off aspects that have long since been recycled into new mods with fewer tweaks. With The Anomaly breaking away from this to take things slower it provides a new experience that is often times not found or overlooked by channels that will try and post daily or semi regularly but in the process are lesser in quality. People who do longer play throughs will get the full experience and thus provide something new for the audience to indulge in such as Calvin.
    I won't deny that the The Anomaly does have issues (I played with a friend and the chasing can be somewhat tiresome) but I think it breaking away from the norm of other Cave Dweller/Newer Horror mods shouldn't be considered a con when you aren't playing it the way it is intended to be played. If this video was built with a smaller set of horror mods that aided The Anomaly and provided additional things to do whilst it cooked in the background then this experience may have gone over better but that's up to Andy to decide if he wants to give it another try in the future or not.

      It shuffling around your house for 5 days or just standing there menacingly without doing anything different isn't exactly good either though, if it did different stuff during the 'grace period' it could be less repetitive

      @@hunterst6321 That's the thing though, it spooks you initially, you get used to it and then when it evolves to be more scary it catches you off guard. If you're standing around waiting for it to do something then it is bound to feel boring or stale when it is intended to work in the background or on the side.

      I appreciate the write up and response. I agree to an extent on somethings but I feel like it's alright for this mod to take center stage and be the main mod instead of a side mod/background Mod. He literally breaks the moon and kicks you so might as well just let him be disruptive to begin with. But obviously I'm sure it's based on taste and preference anyways. I don't think he's bad by any means either, def cool features and interactions. Maybe I'll add to a modpack one day as well and try again in a longer duration

      @@troubled_boys Preference certainly plays a part no doubt and I could definitely see it being main stage if certain aspects were changed for The Anomaly to be more aggressive. That would certainly be interesting to see as well if not having the mod be split in two. One for longer playthroughs and another for short, more intense playthroughs.
      Playing it in a mod pack certainly grants it the time to freak the player out and it works better though that's just my experience so far with it.

      I haven't played this mod either, but I think the slow build-up could be a feature more than a bug, if implemented right. My understanding is that it's supposed to gradually get more bizarre and spooky, instead of using all its tricks in one hour...it would build up the uncanniness of this thing following you around without throwing all the crazy stuff immediately. The moon breaking seemed to have more of an impact 7 in-game days into it, instead of doing it Day 1 and setting an expectation of the game crashing constantly.
      On the other hand, when you install the mod to experience it, it does seem to fall flat. You intentionally install it for something spooky or scary, and the stalking mechanics don't work well when you expect it, as opposed to it being a surprise occurrence. You go in expecting a formidable threat, you get disappointed that it feels like it builds suspense for nothing.
      My opinion is that it needs more unique mechanics, or even some sort of "minigame" system. Like when the Anomoly drops a book with coordinates, maybe it spawns in a special structure to explore, or some unique mobs that supplement it, like the ones with changing names. The coordinate idea is especially interesting because it promotes exploration of the world, as opposed to just hunkering down in the house. When the Anomaly is just stuck stalking the house, it seems less interesting than if it pushed you to travel and follow you everywhere.

    The spinning in place thing is happenng to a lot of modded mobs right now, some weird issue with Forge. It happened to me a lot with Born of Chaos mobs and Alex Mobs

    I think the book thing would be much cooler if you were very far from home when you got it, and it led you back to your house to meet him or something. I personally like the longer build up to him actually beginning to do things, as I don't really enjoy the dwellers that just see the player on day one and kill them instantly. I think this one has some potential.

      It might have been influenced by the multiplayer as well. Also something about sleeping and going into caves is meant to provoke it.
      Either way it'd be nice to have the entity provided more of a personality/motive + some other small details to make things like the book have meaning.

    It would be nice if horror mods introduced a config option where you could toggle between something like 'standalone' and 'modpack' to vary the startup time based on whether you want to see just the mod itself, or make it part of a larger and longer experience. Some people want one and some want the other, I imagine changing the startup time for the mob behavior wouldn't be too difficult in most cases; or just make it two different .jar files if it needs to be.

    tbh i feel drawn out build up is a good thing
    too many horror mods are in your face or at least make their existence known from the get go and don't give the player time to get complacent and let their guard down

    from personal experience I kinda like the anomaly. Me and a couple friends added this to our modpack and our server was already at day 300 when we added him, but he began getting really aggressive around day 320-330 and managed to keep me actually on edge with the anxiety effect and the jumpscares. the form with the many eyes did freak me out a bit when we played as I was forced to look at him. I do have to admit that he does really need an update to improve on his weak points but he's unique enough from the basic dwellers that I kinda like em.

    For the best horror experience it's best to play alone, so you can feel immersed and put yourself into the situation at hand. Playing with a friend can lower the fear factor a lot since cooperation mixed with horror is usually not taken as seriously with jokes, intimacy and communication. Since this is a showcase about it being slop or not, it's best at least personally to make that experience solo only

    I think horror mods get scarier when the interactions you get out of them are scarce and unwanted.
    What I mean is, a horror mod should aspire to do more, less times. Personally I don't think horror games do a great job at horror because the horrific becomes the routine. But when you put a splash of horror that breaks the routine every now and then in a great shocking manner, it leaves a better, although probably more frustrating impression.
    The idea of disconnecting the player with a cryptic message and then shattering the moon is insane, but searching for the monster in every corner at every second and then finding him twerking on the yard is pretty anticlimatic.
    Mods should do more less times, so that players feel comfortable in the routine and feel shocked when it is broken.

    It would be really cool if they played more into the "code" side of the mod. Maybe instead of just disappearing he glitches out or when he's chasing you he can pull random blocks out of the ground to stop you. Heck they could even have him slowly do more and more crazy things over time as if he's taking more control of the world
    Though i feel like he should have a "agro setting" that let's you change how often he does stuff, in fact i think most horror mods could use that.

    I like the anomaly actually, even though I said in some random unrelated video that it was slop, I have now changed my mind because I found out it can do a little bit more than just "menacingly stand there" and "RAAAH STEVE WITH BIG TEETH GONNA KILL YOU!!!" So for me it's already better than the majority of the mods I saw
    I like how it can crash your game, and send you on a little side quest I think idk I haven't seen it yet lol I only heard about it in the comments I haven't watched the full video yet, I also like his other form with many eyes I lowkey think it's cute (my pfp says it all, I liek these types of things)

    i feel like a way cooler mechanic would be that, if an entity attacked you, instead of high damage or instakill with high asf hp, it had 1 HP but if it caught you, you'd swap perspective to watch your body being ripped apart, killed, eaten, anything like that, as you sit there, unable to move or look elsewhere while you have no items and your HP bar being empty to signify the fact that you're dead already
    and as it finished, it looked at you from your new perspective as coordinates were sent in chat, giving you the location of where to retrieve your life
    it makes you feel powerless when you're actually caught, because you need to succeed every time
    it only needs you to fail once

      could also make an item that wards it off from killing you when it catches you, so its still not just autokill bullcrap, but it'll try attacking often so having more than one of said item would be good

    for most of the video it felt like "from the fog" but with worse visuals and worse pathing. it did do some interesting unique stuff, some i like some i dont, although i do feel you do some disservice by choosing a slow burn/longplay horror mod and then making a "short" session around it. i get why you play it that way and its fair but it does take the mod out of its intended element, and i dont think it taking too long is a bad thing (although i do think the seeming frequency of doing things, yet those things arent much, is bad. its not buildup if its so often there but just not doing anything interesting)
    i'll be honest, i think you might need to refine what type of horror mod you choose for showcases. "action horror" type mods seem to work fine for these videos but mods that are more "psychological horror" just dont work. you wont get a feeling of "there is something wrong with my world" or "i might be haunted by something that shouldnt be in the game" if you know you put a mod in there, and are actively looking out for it. mods like 'from the fog' and similar ones which are moreso passive haunting rather than active threats simply dont fit the format

      something like from the fog would never make an interesting video but that doesnt make it a bad mod at all. its great to put in a pack of an smp, or even use as datapack for a vanilla smp. "ghost hunting" that kind of mod would be boring af, but it hits different if you're chilling in your workshop tinkering with create and then just hear footsteps around you without anyone being there. puts you on edge ya know, seeing herobrine stare at you from the distance when you're just trying to live your life feels unnerving, but it wouldnt if you're actively tracking him down (it also doesnt if you make him do the griddy, which you can, and thats awesome)

      I think it'd work better if Andy lets a friend set up a modpack for him that contains a horror mod, but Andy has to find out what it is by playing with only hints toward making the Entity do stuff if nothing happens. And if Andy has doubts then it'd be best to clarify certain feats.
      I'd say in total that he needs somebody who knows the mods before Andy plays those himself, so that he has a way to check whether he missed out on something. This would just need somebody to keep track of all the horror mods that Andy hasn't tried yet. He'd also probably need to try most gameplay loop things such as sleeping if he doesn't do it much.

    I dunno if they deserve that sound credit, I recognize a number of them from SCP: Containment Breach, like the one that plays when the anxiety attack effect happens. I'm pretty sure they're royalty free, so you know not STOLEN, not like that game owns them, but a similar visual effect is also in Containment Breach. So there may be some inspiration going on there. If they cut out the form where he just runs at you and kills you, I think that would improve the whole experience. If that weren't a thing, it'd really lend a vibe of it being an incredibly powerful entity that is just messing with you for kicks and not some old shitty creepypasta.

    This can't be considered a legitimate review given the circumstances you put on the mod, to be honest. I genuinely enjoyed your first two slop or nots but adding a second player with bad internet really interfered with the intended impact and takes away from the encounters; this is an especially egregious error as the mod page actively states that it hasn't been tested for multiplayer and feedback is appreciated. Isn't it unfair to review the mod in the exact place it outright admits it hasn't been tested in? Even with a positive review at the end, it sort of sours the entire thing.
    This really just feels more like a generic dweller video with a friend that wears the skin of a "review" at the beginning and end, but at least you seem aware that it wasn't really a good idea after the fact.

    The mod itself has a lot of potential and is not that bad. The major problem is this mod is extremely buggy in general, not to mention multiplayer incompatibility.
    I remember playing a modpack with this mod and it used to scare me really well a few times, I also used to stay at caves most of the time so Anomaly could bother a lot (I have to say that you made your experience poorer by playing it on multiplayer and that you were afk staying at the house for half of the gameplay).
    I'd say this is not really a slop for me, mostly because of mechanics put inside the mod (really original mechanics In my opinion, expecially the book, entity nametags bugging out and disconnecting from the server) and that it does not insta chase and kill you during first days of gameplay (it does a too much damage tho and chase mechanic is too straightforward). Sound design is really good aswell. I don't mind the entity's model itself, for me it does its job really well, expecially the transofmated one is really good (does not fit minecraft's blockiness tho).
    One of major cons are loads of bugs. I remember that in my gameplay, Anomaly was teleporting inside ground in random ass place near me and was taking damage making the glitchy filter annoying. In addition to what did it's AI do in your video it makes it even worse to take seriously (aka gooball fence dancing). I also would say that some of its mechanics could be swapped to happen before Anomaly's transformation phase (like nametag thingy, also make book only spawn if player is far enough from the house and then make some appearance). I think that the buildup is really boring unless you use other mods or play the game completely ignoring it's existence.
    While I agree with all of your pros, I'd personally disagree with some cons. Once major bugs, AI and buildup gets fixed I think it could deserve higher rating. The mod from now can get restructured into more of a non-dweller mod and maybe make its own thing because potential is really high in there.
    Anyways, thank you for the series. It is really relaxing and fun to watch your horror content, really gives some fresh view into horror niche and your ratings are well structured and cover almost everything. I hope my comment was easy enough to read and understand. I am excited for more content of yours.

    Honestly I think the anomaly is an ok horror mod, that Moon breaking sequence honestly really suprised me.
    Truthfully I think the anomaly with its design would fit well in some sort of Minecraft FNAF fangame. I dunno it just seems like it would look cooler in that kinda scenario. So if I ever make a Minecraft themed FNAF fangame, I know who I'm including.

    I see a buncha people getting kinda weirdly defensive in the comments about the slow build up, i sort of interpreted andy's statements as more of a "the buildup wasn't necessary for *these* concepts being executed." I understand the appeal of mods like this is to replicate the sort of haunted game shtick like in the creepypastas along the lines of ben drowned, but having 3 hours buildup to be chased and instakilled and some basic weirdness is just too long for too little. If it had more and like gave you puzzles to do, like dropping the book of coords for thousands of blocks away leading to a secret dungeon or something full of weird debug items or some sort of more messed up decorations, but just... Not much happened, maybe it has more if you sleep more often but just becoming more aggressive and getting instakilled more doesn't really seem too fun, i may try this mod to get my opinion license but this really does seem like slop

    I don't mean any offense to your friend, but I think you should probably play the rest of these mods in single player unless it explicitly says it's for a multiplayer experience.
    I think the multiplayer stuff really hurt the experience and didn't really add much to the video. I think you should do a round 2 of this mod as well - it doesn't feel like it was the mod being low quality, but rather that it's having a meltdown trying to process two players. Around 16:00 it shifts left and right repeatedly, almost like it's freaking out trying to track your position and your friend's position.

    first content to see planes, and I do like her, but I agree that these slop or nots probably have to only be singleplayer, multiplayer horror is built from the ground up like Lethal Company or Phasmo, and especially since these are mods so they probably got the bugs, singleplayer's just gonna be fairer on these poor dwellas

    I know this is not exactly the ideal place for this BUUT I'm gonna go on a yap session for a bit soo:
    A few core elements i think more mods should have should be:
    *Stalking For Power up*
    Think of it as like Michael Myers in dead by daylight, The entity will stalk and try to keep line of sight with you whenever it has an opportunity, Doing so will progress it into a next phase, or just upgrading it in general. Of course the player should be aware of it's presence, Ambiance around the entity or ambiance while the entity has line of sight with the player would be pretty unsettling. And It could rush the player down occasionally, Maybe to hit him or Preferably make them spooked by doing the Blind plus slowness combo and spawning a few mobs to fight the player. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! The entity can't just vanish! It should engulf itself in particles or make the player blink before it does so, the later would be more spooky in my opinion.
    *Chasing and Trapping!*
    Here's the Number one reason i wrote this.
    The entity can run at you like a dweller, HOWEVER! Instead of your overdone basic 1 shot or hitting you, it will go back to the roots of minecraft Horror! A.K.A Apply blindness and slowness make you unable to run or really move and THEN it could circle you think of it as the brain of Cthulhu from Terraria make fake entities and they basically joust you so you'd have to hit the real one to stop the onslaught. Maybe even a weaker variant that you can 1 shot and have multiple come at you in turns make you defend yourself like the battle against undyne from undertale. _( addendum: While you are trapped the entity(ies) could have that Glow/outline effect around them to make it a it more fair)_
    *Lastly Gravekeeping Or GraveRobbing.*
    The entity will guard your last place of death, shall your fall victim to it, Of course this one should be a different one maybe have it copy your inventory have it taunt you, A mimic in short, a mocking image of the player that you could fight like a regular mob to get your loot back.
    On another note Having the entity steal some of your items could be interesting, Think of it like the Fallen angels mod, a variant of the entity would grab one of your items and run away when it sees you making you chase it down. Which could also be used to lead the player into getting ambushed.

    I love this mod, I don't think its a sloppy but I understand you, it could be boring in the beginning when hes looking you crazilly and try to own your house but sometimes it is creepy, everytime I stare of this thing it Terrifies me! hes normal design is uncanny! while the true form is so creepy and cool reminds me of The Parasites Things!
    And also when it comes with the late agressive on him, it becames more creepy but unfair like for example the one that he reveals a lot of his red eyes can grab you and you can't do anthing and when you get close to that you simply gets one shot! and almost same with the "Behind you" one! Its so very creepy but unfair cuz it one shots even with such strong armor!
    And then theres the one that he kicks you out the server!
    At this point, this mod is like How herobrine is at this point ngl.

    Lets also remove Phases and just go straight to Phase 8.
    Other then this though you're mostly right about this mod. But yeah, build up in general is important especially for Horror in Minecraft. If Iron is enough to survive, Diamond is enough to win, and Protection 4 invalidates them completely.

    this mod would probably be better if the anomaly started out as a normal steve that would just watch you play and instead of disappearing he would run away, and over time it gets closer and closer to the player like it's understanding you more. Till either the player or the anomaly will attack causing the regular steve to turn into the anomaly, but idk that could be me I just feel like the trope of staring at you and vanishing is lame to me

    I feel like it tries to be one of those "add to a modpack and forget about it" kind of mods (like from the fog) but also adding a bit of dweller dna. And honestly I respect the idea. Like irregular encounters with a longer wait inbetween are a good thing if you want to actually do a full playthrough instead of a RUclips video. Otherwise it will become hella annoying on like day 3

    I will say, this video does do a good job explaining the problem people face when trying to enjoy the horror genre in general. For example, in horror stories, the tension is built methodically in steps, typically starting with dread, then terror, then ending with horror. Dread is kept first as its the strongest emotion felt by the audience. They know something is wrong but don't know exactly what is wrong, when things will go wrong, who it'll affect, etc. Terror is the actual thing that is wrong itself or what causes things to feel wrong. A monster, a murderer, a violent storm, an abandoned building, etc. Horror is saved for last as its typically the aftermath of the terror and is the hardest to instill. It's best described as the dead body left behind, or the memories of the incident, the feeling that something was taken or is now lost and unobtainable, etc. It helps to set the power dynamic between the instiller of terror and the terror instilled, whether that be the audience or the characters at play.
    The problem comes when this ordering is undone or unbalanced in some way. Dread can't be made when the player can easily stop time with a pause menu and go to google and find the wiki, detailing everything that can and will happen overtime, instead of being forced to keep moving along and figure it out along the way. The terror is often immediately killed long before this because, well, you've got an entire wiki with images of the thing right when you go to download it to use. The horror is more so underwhelming than what's possible because of the fact that it's being expressed through a video game. There's no real consequence for dying in this scenario, nor is there enough time to comprehend the consequences either. Plus, it's a video game, you can die and respawn literal feet away at times. And more times than not, the threat of the terror itself is too sporadic, when surprisingly makes it predictable. Even when the AI is determined by mere coin flips and whatnot, it's not ever going to be random enough to throw people off and scare them.
    A real horror mod shouldn't tell the player anything or show anything on the download page. If it does, it should be kept short and obscured in such a way to not reveal any identifying information. There's no need for that info to be available unless there's a need to report a bug or a glitch. Plus, you shouldn't be seeing the terror right upon download. It's an experience above all else, so make it one. Let it be invisible and hit players off a cliff edge when it detects the player will fall into a dark pit, but be able to come out barely alive. Let it build stuff in chunks the player has been to already so that the player doesn't have to go out of their way to find the horror themselves. Let the terror toy with and torture the player like how a cat plays with a mouse before it eats it. It's the times where the player has had near-death experiences in their game or ran into signs of something threatening them whilst escalating in intensity that set the scene for the terror to fully unfold and reveal the monster behind it all, with the consequences being more severe and dire than typical. Be it respawning thousands of blocks away from home when it kills you, or sending you to another dimension with no easy way out, or even a slow transformation of the world you've grown used to now becoming a deadly hellscape.
    But instead, time and time again, people get the formula wrong. There's always either not enough build up in tension before the first exposure or too long of unimpactful tension to make it mean anything, then too much exposure to the terror far too soon without any of the horror to back it up, and the horror itself is being either too forgiving to the victim or too frequent to counteract, ultimately becoming nothing more than just an annoyance and being deemed stale and boring.
    Apologies for the essay, but I feel like it's needed so that anyone who has or is planning to make a horror mod of their own can learn how to improve upon the horror aspects themselves instead of just making another hostile mob for players to deal with at night.

      Seems right to me, although a few things might be more rage-inducing than anything else...
      I think there should be information you can view. Not TOO EASILY, as to prevent accidentally spoiling one's self. Maybe hints on the page that aren't hidden so you know if you're on the right track with encounters. Extra info behind some visual barriers.

      I think it can work. Buuuut I'd say it would be better with proximity voice chat.
      In general I think it'd just be better if Andy has somebody set up the modpack for him and add a random horror entity for the pack for the purposes of the "Slop Or Not" stuff. That somebody should also probably try it first and check for information so that if something isn't right, or can be triggered, Andy can be nudged about it.
