I remember being a little kid in the early 70's and my Dad and Grandpa had elk calls like you described. As I recall they were 1" aluminum tubes with a notch and I think cork to block the end.

Your right, but I made my call out of PVC and it wasn't as tinny sounding.

Thanks for the kind words. I was just lucky to live in an area with a lot of elk. And I was interested in them.

The Africa adventures started in the 90's when I was spending summers in Tanzania in the masai steppe filming dangerous game and learning to be a PH.

I've still got my dads elk bugle from the late 50's made exactly that way but made from bamboo. When I was a kid I bugled in a lot of elk with it.

My dad had one of these flutes and a what he called his circly q bugle. It was made from corrugated copper tubing that was bent around a baseball bat.

I be darn, never seen one like that. Did it work? Was he able to bugle in bulls?

@@mikeeastman6809 Yes, my dad and I both used it for quite a few years. Last time I used it I was a teenager and called in and killed a bull at 6 yards. That was over 30 years ago.

Nice! I hope you kept the bugle to show your grandkids. Mike
