5 Years Later, IS DAYS GONE FINALLY FIXED?

  • When Bend Studio's Days Gone launched for the PS4 in 2019, it was under the shadow of many great first-party titles. Though its combat, zombies/Freakers and overall graphical fidelity attracted praise, critics found the open world and story lacking. The iffy performance and technical issues also didn't help.
    Despite positive sales out of the gate, Days Gone seemed like it would be confined to history as one of Sony's few underwhelming exclusives. Nevertheless, it garnered a strong cult following, culminating in its addition to PlayStation Plus, where it gained a new appreciation. Though a sequel looks unlikely (especially following reports of a rejected pitch), it's still considered one of the more underrated exclusives.
    All these years later, how does Days Gone measure up? What did its numerous patches add over time, and is it worth playing? Find out more here.

      I think the main dividing factor is the "bike vibe". It's neither car-driving nor horse-riding, which together cover the majority of people's interests (or vibes). It's quite unique, but also somewhat exclusive, less represented in video games. Lack of story bro. 90% of the game is "Deek can you go here? Deek can you go there? Deek can you find him? Deek can you hunt them down?" It's just 1 big fetch quest until he finds out his wife is alive, and then it's all about finding her, but before that? Zero story.

    • @TB-wvvvw
      @TB-wvvvw 2 месяца назад +4

      @@KoolKeithProductions To me it seems like there's plenty of story. There's his friend Boozer and everything that happens with him including trying to help with his injury. There's the ongoing story about Lisa who was all alone with a lot of troubles where only Deek could help. There are the parts of the story about Iron Mike and his camp trying to work out how to coexist with the rippers, and the jerk Skizzo and missions connected to him. There are the other characters you meet at the camps and the things you do because of them or for them or sometimes with them. You of course have the ongoing story of hordes and how to deal with them, something that adds a lot of fun to this game. There is the ongoing story of Nero and its checkpoints and Deek's missions about them and the mysterious person who Deek hopes will help him find his wife. There are several kinds of things you do to help the different camp leaders and they all make sense given the person Deek is and what he can do, which aren't just "fetch quests" but different things like learning to hunt the wildlife, catching someone trying to get away on a motorcycle and having to disable and detain them and going with someone to try using napalm molitovs for the first time against a horde. I thought Deek was a very well fleshed out character and his story was full of details that made for a lot of fun and varied game play.

      @@TB-wvvvw compare that to a game like Red Dead 2 which has similar stories that you find out in the world. Where you can help ppl, aquire new skills and weapons upgrades. All that is fine, but you know what else it has? An OVERARCHING story. From min 1 the story is about this gang and how they fell apart over time. You cannot tell me what the story of Days Gone is from min 1, cuz the only story was "survive". That's it. He thinks his wife is dead for half of it, then tried to find her for 40% of it, and then tried to free her once he's found her for 10% of it. Not exactly up to snuff when compared to other AAA games released for PS4 back then, so it got swallowed up

      masterpiece? God... the bar is very low nowadays. Every game is a "masterpiece" or 9/10. Even a generic open-world game. Its almost all about graphics these days. Had it had shitty graphics, you would be calling this a mediocre game. Be honest.

    Days Gone was a victim of what I like to call the "It's good enough, but that's not good enough" effect. It had its problems, but I feel like it got way more hate than it deserved. I'm glad people are starting to like it now. Hopefully a Days Gone sequel or spiritual sequel would be great!

    I bought this game a few months after the launch on sale. I was very hyped for it, being a big fan of Bend Studio's work. However, immediately after starting the game for the first time, the graphic assets wouldn't fully load and Deacon would fall through the ground and the game would get stuck in a forever-falling loop. No big deal, I'll just restart the game. And it happened again. Third time's a charm? Nope. So, I didn't play the game until several months later. There were still some issues with the game but I was finally able to play it and it became one of my favorite games. But because of the poor state of launch, I wasn't happy with John Garvin's comment saying, "If you love a game, buy it at f****** full price." To that, I say... how about you finish the game and put it in a playable state BEFORE it launches, and then maybe it would be worth full price.

It was one of those games that I dipped in for time to time until after 10 hours it seemed tlhe story and the game got really good and it finally got it's hooks in me but it did take a while to get to the good stuff

    I’ve played though this game multiple times, I’ve always loved the story and characters. It’s pretty well patched, it was really buggy when it came out buy usually in a funny way where you would go flying 500ft in the air for no reason. Also missions wouldn’t complete and you would have to restart. But last few playthoughs it’s been fine. Really wish there will be a sequel

Usually I can’t really play open world games any more since, you know, they feel empty for me, I kind lose the vibe. But this one definitely scratches the itch, probably will platinum it again.

      Enganging story line indeed and very enjoyable game....until our dude found his wife, the center of the whole story and she started acting illogically out of character, almost blaming him for still being alive and totally blowing him off while some rando black dude is wearing her wedding ring, and our guy is like..."Naaah it will be fine, I'll win her love again no matter what". Am I the only one that finds this waaaay out of character after setting up the story as a true love romance or somesuch, but she forgot about all that and can't be even bothered to ask how he survived? Yeah, I'm uninstalling it, they lost me with this on purpose done illogical nonsense just to embbarass and mock the main hero of the story, No thanks

    • @pteth
      @pteth Месяц назад

      @@davisor7116 actually, it made alot of sense to me, she thought he had died, the colonel had rules against relationships, he was obviously a nutjob. she had given up hope of ever seeing deacon again and kept him at arms length because her focus was to create a cure. you can see her shifting attitudes and the emotional nuances as time goes by and she realizes that hes survived all this time and they can survive together despite the situation the worlds in. he gives up everyone he cares about to show his love and support, sacrifices it all for her. had nothing to do with trying to embarrass deacon, had alot ot do with her finally realizing he was real, that he was alive, and that his feelings for her hadnt changed except to become stronger.
      at least that was my take on it, but by that point i was pretty much neck deep in the story.. even sat through the ending credits with a smile and just a sense of "wow".. then it caught my eye.. i hadnt taken the time to get trust with all 3 camps up north... woudl that make a difference? so i took a week off and started playing again. lol.
