This Hulk scared the crap out of me as a kid. Especially the part at the end when he turned around and looked at David from afar before running away. What an episode! Loved it. 🙂
Yes. Something about that menacing stare before he runs off gave me chills.
@@Master_Timothy Exactly, friend. That background music didn't help at all either. 😄
This is going to sound silly but those eyebrows and that evil smile
@@vintvarner16 That isn't silly. You're right! 😅
Happy Holidays to you. 🙂
To me he just looked like a nauseous Morrissey from The Smiths after he ate a really dodgy vegetarian curry. No wonder he was so angry because he had to keep running to the toilet all the time. 😀
Now *this* is a concept that sells itself. Banner tracks down a scientist who created his own version of the Hulk several years back ... in hopes that the latter had a cure for the affliction. Well, a cure was found, but the cured individual wants this ability back ... and gets his wish. And it doesn't end until both Hulks duke it out ... a fight that doesn't end until one of them literally dies. This series's two-parters were never bad, but this particular one was flat-out dynamite.
I wish they would have hired Arnold to play the bad hulk. Why have a skinny guy ?
@@lukebandy516 Eh, makes sense to me. You use a different method to create a hulk monster, you're bound to get different results.
@@lukebandy516 because dell fry is an old man while banner was much younger so it makes sense
@@avalond1193When you look at the newspaper article David read in the library, the picture shows the same-looking Hulk when Dell was young.
I agree 💯💯💯💯
As soon as Dell started turning green, I would've been running out the door.
David's scientific curiosity got the better of him
Me too
David's Hulk is much stronger than this abomination. He didn't have to run out! He wasn't scared! Yes he was curious!
This one always scared me as a kid.
Me too
Me too. Watching it now reminded me how I felt.
Me too

Lord yes! That sucker was CRAZY!!!
This was by far one of the best episodes of this series. You had two versions of these gamma powered beings. One man wanted to cure himself, the other wanted to embrace the monsters power. This was an epic story
The best episode of the original series. R.I.P. Bill Bixby, Harry Townes, Jack Colvin, and Dick Durock.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
The drama of Hulk is unmatched. The closeup on the green eyes, the music, the transformation. Creepy as hell. I feared and loved it when I was a child. And nobody can move more dramatic on the floor than Bill Bixby. Not even Neymar.
2:25 gotta love how he played dead to avoid getting his ass whooped. See how quickly he got up after Frye left?😂
David tries to avoid transforming.
He isn't a very violent man.
Shit I play dead too if a big green monster was coming after me but if it helps because sometimes they will try to kill while u playing possum too lol 😂😂😂😂
@@KyleEvrayea I guess so lol 😂😂😂😂
A good ploy to use against the Daleks as well, sadly not as clever as David.
THE OTHER HULK LOOKS LIKE THAT CAR DRIVING 🚗 JUMPSCARE MEME🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That thing was so ugly, at least our Hulk was kinda cute, dang. It was nice for Banner to see the transformation in another person, but so sad when he cried. Bill Bixby crying will always break my heart.
I dropped everything to watch this clip. One of my favorite stories from the series. I was very young when this first aired and seeing Dell's transformation/Hulk Out freaked me out!
The Hulk is one of the most iconic superheroes in the Marvel Comics and over the past years he became popular for his superhuman strength, speed, durability and stamina!!! Long live the Incredible Hulk!!!!
He definitely took care of Loki !
@@jogordon1530that part waz funny 😂😂😂😂
Thanks to the MCU this is the most popular he's ever been.
He has not a superspeed.
@meiyo45 He's over Mach 5 speed so kinda he is
The first is some of the best episodes of the series, I always found Dell to be somewhat sympathetic because he just wanted to be healthy again and was so tired of everyone picking on him for being weak. I can relate to that so much since I suffer from vision loss from a genetic eye disease.
There was actually going to be another Hulk, Kenneth Johnson the creator of the show wanted to do his version of She-Hulk for the 5th season where Helen was dying from a blood disease and the only way for David to save her was through a blood transfusion. But CBS (for some reason) wasn't interested, by that point they had gotten bored of the series so they cancelled it.
That explanation is a bit over-simplified. I remember hearing rumor that Johnson wanted to spawn a She-Hulk series ... but at the same time wrap up the Bixby Hulk series. The thing is, Johnson wouldn't be resolving the things that caused him to become discontent with the Bixby series - namely budget constraints, network censorship, and pressure to recycle certain themes instead of encouraging versatility. So, those same problems would have manifested in the She-Hulk series. Tragically, it was Johnson himself who was interested in pulling the plug of the 1970s show, and the ratings of the series - at that point - weren't high enough for the network to object. A series closing finale was planned, but then there was the Writer's Strike, so no closing episode was ever written or produced. Ultimately, we ended up with half of a final season produced and aired. We'd get TV specials of the Hulk from time to time, but that's as far as it went. There was even another TV special planned for production, but Bixby's death put an abrupt to that.
@@Tricob1974I don’t believe that! More than likely it was CBS’s executives that cancelled the show not Johnson!
Dell Frye was a tragic villain in that his environment MADE him a bad guy.
From what I read, Kevin Johnson wanted to start the she hulk but Stan Lee heard about the idea and decided to create it in the comics. It put the kibosh on starting it for tv first. There was a planned sequel to death of the incredible hulk in which Bridget Nielson would play she-hulk, scientists bring back the hulk from banners body and hulk would speak with the mind of banner in control in a project to make multiple hulks for super soldiers (not the U.S. side). It never happened because of Bill's health in decline.
@@knightrcer Who the hell is Kevin Johnson?
I think I was 11 when this originally aired. It was pretty scary. The Del Frye Hulk gave off a werewolf vibe.
Agreed about the werewolf vibe!!!
Werewolf (in terms of the hairstyle). Frankenstein in his body movements (less ridgid than the classic Frankenstein). And the Marvel Universe of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Evil (I haven't the actual book on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde). 😎
And a Dr. Jeckle & Mr. Hyde vibes!
The First is still the greatest episode of the series 💚
Prometheus is up there too!
@@izzy3166 was about to say that myself, closest episode of Hulk fighting the army!👍💪🤢❤😬
Prometheus was amazing too
@@izzy3166 That two-part episode had fellow bodybuilder Ric Drasin guest star as 'The Demi Hulk', which saw David Banner stuck in mid-transformation after coming into contact with a meteor.
While Bill Bixby did the close-ups for those scenes, it was Ric Drasin in the long shots. Lou Ferrigno got him the job.
@@stephenalanmoore7278 lol. Thanks, but already knew that myself. Old school Hulk fan here, including the Hulk comics .
Harry Townes' performance as the disturbed Dell Frye was great, a renowned actor who saw him as a guest in other series such as: The Invaders, The Twilight Zone, Bonanza, and Star Trek
Always liked the way Oldster Hulk's transformation sounded like a creaky, rusty machine being cycled up after sitting in a dark, dusty garage for 40 years.
Closest we got to a live action abomination
Still better than some of the trash they make today
1:05 that is a frightening happy evil smile he has now knowing he got what he wanted
Dell always welcomed the opportunity to change into his Hulk that is why he always smiled or laughed when it happened!!
Remember watching this and I couldn't wait for next week to see part 2. . Memories.
Now with the convenience of watching them on DVD, you can now see the second part immediately after the first. No pun intended.
Im going to wait a week to see the next clip
An excellent two-part story! The evil Hulk is a bit difficult to take seriously, being on the skinny side. Having said that, he stands about 5 inches above Lou Ferrigno. The mysterious Dr. Clive is intriguing.
Makes sense in a way because the human version of that Hulk is an old man. Father Time is always undefeated.
The funny thing he was almost the orginal hulk but they went with a more jacked hulk instead.
It was Dick Durock who played Swamp Thing. He stood 6’6”
@@Dave_Langerno it was Richard Kiel that was initially meant to play the Hulk
@@Dave_Langer No, that's incorrect. You're confusing 'Swamp Thing' star Dick Durock with Richard Kiel, who played Jaws in the Roger Moore Bond films 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977) and 'Moonraker' (1979).
Whereas Durock was an impressive 6'6 tall, Kiel was a towering 7'2. Kiel was initially hired for the original 1977 'Pilot' episode, but unfortunately he didn't have the right muscular physique for the role, so he was then quickly replaced by bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno. The rest is US TV history.
Can you imagine Mr McGee , saying now there's two of them, 😂 It's a hulk epidemic ,💚💚
Hulkamania is running wild...
Don't make them angry..😂
Mr, McGee be having heart attack.
😂
😮 Yep, that's definitely a frightening looking Hulk.
Greatest comic book adaptation ever
It's one of the few cases where the live action adaptation is better than the source material
The thing I really liked about the show was that the transformations are more horror based. In fact it crosses into the realm of body horror. I loved David's almost morbid fascination in Dell's change.
This episode came out in 1981 I was just a 5 1/2 year-old kid. Man, my favorite superhero was the Incredible Hulk because of the TV show. My second favorite was of course, DC’s Lynda Carter, as wonder woman.
Was the same exact age also wen this aired. Was 5. Was born in 76!! During the 80s this would air on Channel 11 on Sunday mornings. Couldn't miss it. Was a great childhood memory
And Adam west Batman
Same on WPIX channel 11 In Queens New York now I live in Florida since 1991 I was 13 I moved to Florida
That Hulk always scared the bejesus out of me as a child
The best episode of the series
0:12 He literally looks like he's just photocopying himself! 😀
Did those things even exist back in the 70s? 🤔
1:58 COME AT ME BRO!
The most insane episode ever, I remember this one very well.
The "First Hulk" is re born. David was probably thinking, "I think I need to wait before I cure myself in case my Hulk needs to get involved.
I think in this case he was more interested in curing the bad guy again first, so he didn't hurt anybody else.
I love me some Hulk. The biceps are just amazing. Lou Ferigno was awesome at his rule.
I wish this had lasted longer. Like it would’ve been great to have the First Hulk pop up again.
Yeah he terrified me too. The ending with him running outside was scary to me. I kind of like that he’s thin and tall. I doubt they could’ve found another bodybuilder to match Ferrigno’s size anyway.
Arnold ?
@@mikelitoris9610 true! 🤣
@@jmarcguy it would’ve been epic to see those two face off as two hulks !
@@mikelitoris9610Arnold was too small . Which is why he wasn't Chosen for the Hulk when they Audition for the Role of the Hulk
This was the best show as a kid. May have been my favorite but there was Dukes if Hazzard, the A team ,knight rider. So many great shows back in the day
McCormick and the man.
Threes Company.
Welcome Back Kotter
The nightmares this gave me as a kid 40 something years ago!
That Frye Hulk was one FRIGHTENING, HIDEOUS looking thing.
Looks like a full grown Eddie Munster 😅
You gotta admit. The new Hulk has a pretty slick hairdo :-)
He borrowed that wig from Tina Turner. 😀
One of my favorite episodes love this one along with promethius and the pilot episode
When the older hulk pushed David down I was surprised David didn’t hulk out
The antidote was still within David's grasp (as you will see at the end of this clip...someting to pay attention to in comparing the end of Part 1 to Part 2)....with the machinery stìll fully intact...there was no need for David to turn into the Hulk.
Since David can't remember what happens to him and he never sees his hulk unless a picture is taken and printed in the newspaper...the look of shock and amazment seeing Del's hulk was something to see on David's face. David's hulk is stronger then Del's hulk do to the fact David is younger then Del.
I always caught that the creature looks at his hands before grabbing the door. As if he realizes that the arthritis is gone.
Watching the episodes always makes you feel sorry for David, especially that sad music when he walks aways.
For some reason, as a kid this other Hulk always scared me!
Nooooooooooooooooooooo! That was something how Del can freak out like that.
I also like how his transformation music is sinister
You can look back on this now and say how cheesy the effects were and the look of the skinny evil Hulk wasn't that great, but back then it was pretty creepy. Evil Hulk scared the crap out of me as a kid. That they decided to use a bitter old bullied man out for vengeance was a more effective choice imo.
A missed opportunity - they should've used Hulk Hogan for the Evil Hulk !! He was around back then and he was wrestling as a heel then so he was already a bad guy !!!! Long before he called everyone Brother!!!👍💪🤢
@@randybarnett2308 How was he gonna play the Hulk . Your forgetting Age robbed Dell of his Size which is why he wasn't as Big As David or The Hulk
@@robertrodriguez787 back then Hogan looked kinda evil, plus he was a bad guy that is until Rockylll . Brother!👍💪🤡
Funny I was just thinking that it's so corny looking but this was one of best episodes of the series and Bill's acting was in full force
The acting still holds up very well tho
I remember this. The second Hulk looked so derpy, I guess they couldn't afford a second body builder.
Part two was VERY tragic for Banner. 😕
That cry ……..
My absolute favorite seeing the gray hulk vs the green hulk I loved this as a kid and still do now
The thing that was so sad about the conclusion to this episode was for the first time in his life Hulk met another of his kind but then a sad and horrible twist this other member of his species tried to freaking kill him and ended up getting killed itself the writers did an amazing job with this two parter seriously
Sounds like the plot of the new king Kong x Godzilla movie where Kong meets scar king another of his kind and the exact same situation as hulk
This was one of the best episodes of the series.
Easily my favorite episodes of The Incredible Hulk when I was a kid. Frye’s Hulk scared the crap out of me and I wanted Lou to beat the ever living crap out of him.
RIP Bill Bixby
This episode always made me Laugh
If David turned into the Hulk it would have been over already. LOL
One of my favourite episodes..👍🏻💯 I just feel that David wanted to cure this guy first seemed odd..like cure your self man, then this dude. Only because it was just a matter of time till he was shot and killed by the town/police. I felt angry and sad for David when Del Frye threw the cure and it broke...that part gives me chills, still.👍🏻💯 Brilliant show. The Hulk is one of my favourites from marvel comics
Did you see the entire episode? David felt responsible for Del's ability to transform into the [First] Hulk again. (Del didn't know how Clive's gamma machine worked.) That is why he wanted to cure Del first. And he knew that Del was *dangerous.*
I would've been out the door and down the road the minute Dell's transformation began!
Bill . Bixby
Legend. !!!!
Pioner. Hulk
Classic. !!!!!
🎥🎥. 🎬🎬. 🇺🇲🇺🇲
When the 2 Hulks fought at the end, it always seemed David s Hulk was stronger than Dells Hulk.
Meth head Hulk😂😂😂😂😂 Now I have seen everything. 😅
I remember I consider this episode and part one and my favorites because is when the Hulk finally finds someone who is powerful he is
Excellent series two parter!
1:36 Ummm...run?? 😂
I was a kid when this episode came on the air. I was scared to death of the old hulk, yet then and now I consider " The First" my favorite of all the Incredible Hulk episodes.
Imagine walking down the street at night and seeing the crazy Hulk
Of course, I was terrified. Did you see the SMILE on that mf’er?!
It was weird that he was skinny but that grill….
Harry Townes and Dick Durock were great. An amazing and scary villain
As a kid, I thought these two were so violent towards each other; especially mean hulk. Now watching as an adult; it's really not even in the violence genre today.
I had forgotten this episode!!! Loveee
That was the scariest Hulk out I have ever seen and he beat the crap out of the other hulk.
This Hulk looks like the Grinch that stole Lou's hieght.
Dude lost his vision after doing exactly what the guy asked him not to do. 😂
Sorry…Dick Durock was no Lou Ferrigno! 💚😂
He wasn't supposed to be. Durock's job was to look scary and menacing. He did it very well. He scared me as a kid. Lol
Banner finds out how Hulk looks from the outside.
And watches Dell's transformation, giving Banner a look at what happens to HIS body during his transformation into the Hulk.
Talk about out of body experience.
The actor is Dick Durock who played Swamp Thing
The very first time I saw this as a little kid on a Friday night, it scared the CRAP out of me! I always thought it was SO strange that they wanted to "tone down" Lou's makeup from the pilot movie and first few episodes of the series, due to it being too scary for little kids. They knew that a lot of kids were watching the series with their parents, so they made the show more "kid friendly", until this episode about a hulk that kills people. It never made any sense to me why they made Dell Frye's creature look SO much scarier than Lou had ever looked as the Hulk to scare kids. I guess they wanted him to come across as being pure evil, which he did. I do LOVE this two-part episode "The First" and the story as an adult, but it really did give me nightmares as a kid for a long time. 😉
So Del Frye couldn’t figure out in 30 years that all he had to do was lay on the table for 30 seconds to become the hulk again?
Guess because he was an insecure, ignorant old man who couldn't read and didn't know or have the courage to repeat the process.
He isn't smart like David is.
They had fix up and prepare the machine and make sure it works .. you must of not seen the episode
Strong 💪 and beautiful
2008 the incredible hulk
When they knew how to make well written exciting Marvel shows!
This story had everything - it was frightening, had tragedy & pathos! Haven't seen anything from a Marvel show with this much emotion!
It's still a great film the hulk I have not seen it for long it's great film all time great actor
In this episode, Banner kept his cool and didn't hulk out like he normally would in previous episodes. Reason, it wasn't written in the script for David to hulk out in this scene.
You know that you're in a mad scientist lab when the bed has flashing LEDS on it 😂🤣
We can thank all those black and white Frankenstein movies for that 😂
This episode was crazy
This was m😢 favorite episode
I love the background music for the dell frye hulk at the end of the part one episode
That face scares the life out of me even today.
Very good episode
This was quite an epic story. One man wanted to rid not only himself of the Hulk, but the other man of the Hulk as well, whereas the other man wanted to help the first man rid himself of the Hulk, but only so he could harness the Hulk's power for himself, which was downright selfish of him, nonetheless.
@2:11 ouch my hulk nuts! 😂
I remember this Hulk tv series very well
Classic!!
The new hulk looks like a Green grown up version of Eddie Munster..lol
David Banner shouldn't have his curiosity get the best of him when he saw Del Frye change into the original Hulk who is evil because Del chose to be evil, and good that Sherriff Decker came to the Clive house before Del's creature could attack David while he was briefly unconscious.
That scrony hulk looks like it has mange
I dont think I slept for a week after watching this one… genuinely scared the shit out if me as a kid… his face was evil
Only two hit series of the episodes of the hulk with my favorite the first and terror in times square the first was a magnificent battle between hulk and the other hulk I loved it
Bad Hulk looks like Father Jack from the Father Ted show!
David got closer when Dell hulked out. I would have made a break for the door so fast, I'd pop out of my socks.
