Damn shame ain't it. Great grand son and grandson of ga bootleggers here. My dadi first race car was a 1956 Chevy. Same puke pink as Earnhardt's first car. he raced at savannah speedway ( fastest speedway in the south ) 1/2 mile paved oval all the greats of the 50s-60sand 70s raced there. We lived behind the race track nothing but woods between us and the track probably 4 - 500 yards , in silk hope ga 10 miles out side of savannah ga. My dad used to drive the race car to the track they would tape a flash light to the trunk with a red lens to drive back home at night cause he had to go out on the highway to drive back to the house. Good times I was born in 76 my dad was driving a dodge by the time I could recalect which was 3 or 4 years old . I grew up at savannah speedway till It closed in the early 80s then onto Oglethorpe speedway which was a mile a way the way a the way a crow flies the opposite direction of the house and savannah speedway . You could hear both tracks from my bed room window when they was racing. I've raced nearly all my life times have completely changed and not for the best. Well never be that free again .

I was looking for this comment.... and it took "a long time" to find it. Mind blowing isn't it? Truly was a "simpler time" when people lived hard, and dying was... well... "inevitable", so no point dwelling on it. I guess??? We've all heard the expression... "It's the way they would have wanted it", and in this case, and that time... that phrase evidently rang true to everyone there without question. It's hard to say how long it took before they actually started racing again, but from this edited version, it seemed as if they may have never stopped... except to clear the other car (which didn't dive down into the pit area) from the track. Another thing I noticed about that part in the film, the driver of that #5 car (which did dive into the pits killing the three men) looked like a 16yo from the side and rear view. I'm thinking not, but again... 1960, so "hard to say"?
