Watched the 1960 Plymouth video. This car was mine in 1960, only not a convertible. I got mine brand new in January of 1960 on my birthday. I was 16 going to Thomas Downey High School in Modesto, CA. I was a junior and the only kid in high school that had a new car. Mine was all black. It had the swivel seats, the square Sterling wheel and the RCA record player. You talked about the speedometer bars, but I bet you didn't know that when the bars got to 120mph, they cleared and started over! Did it a number of times! With the torsion bolts you could lower the front, which was the style in 1960. The record player didn't skip over bumps or sliding around corners! But it sure did wear out the 45's! Had to disconnect the cables for the swivel seats due to the fact they would pinch the girls fanny who was sitting in the middle on the console lid. You can't imagine how much fun we had in that car. I had a San Francisco trolley car bell mounted under the hood with a pull switch on the dash and could replicate the SF trollies. By the way, George Lucas was a year behind me at Downey High. Small world.
@@richardferrario4414 I learned to drive in my sisters new 1959 Plymouth. The trans buttons were vertical but I seem to recall a "PARK" lever that you manually moved in a slot next to the buttons to put the car transmission in PARK. Did your 1960 have a lever under those trans select buttons? I might be thinking of a newer car I drove, I'm 80 so the memory isn't what it used to be.
That beauty isn't just a car, it's a work of craftsmanship and lots of TLC. Gosh, all that beautiful Chrome too. Cars now are seemingly built more for profit, using the flimsiest looking parts, and costing thousands, and to work on today's vehicles, you practically need two degrees, one in engineering and the other in computer science. Some shops want to do a diagnostic check, one wanted $155 just for my '92 Toyota Camry to check a rough idle( could be sensor or fuel injection) have another guy that doesn't bother with that, he's very honest too. Going to him next week, he is swamped with work this week. US Auto mfg used. To be the envy of the world, thanks for these videos, Lou

God bless Randy for saving that beauty! Only 2 years!? He raised that Exner classic from the ashes. One of the most iconic finned cars ever! Thanks Lou.👏👏👏
One of my favorite models too have you seen the 60 Chrysler imperial two doors Frank troost has one on Lou's channel if you haven't seen it it is a beautiful green one that Frank owns beautiful!
If someone brought me a car in that condition, I'd lock the doors and pretend I wasn't home.... thankfully, there are insane people crazy enough to take on an impossible project and end up with a beauty like that...
What an absolutely stunning and gorgeous car! The restoration is incredibly amazing! Looking at the 'before' picture I would never believe the end result would be possible. Major kudos to all involved!
Fearless design! As a kid back in the day, every new model year was Christmas to us. This car is a good example of what excited us. Anything was possible. My applause to these restorers who had the courage and followthrough to see this restoration to the finish. Future enthusiasts will delight that someone went on this adventure.
I was in grade school when this monstrosity hit the streets. While I'm impressed with the quality of the restoration, this was the point where Virgil Exner clearly lost his mind. The next two years for Plymouth and Dodge were staggeringly bad; it seemed like Exner had been watching The Jetsons and dropping LSD.
Yes!!! Exner was fearless until the wrath of the Chrysler accountants came to prominence in 58.... Exner's F-you to Chrysler and the accountants was the 61-64 model's, according to those in the know, who my Dad knew. I mean seriously, under the hood was as much art as the exterior design. Exner was a genius who was treated like a bastard stepchild by Studebaker and then by Chrysler when they believed GM's propaganda which led to Exner's F-you design. Sad day when Exner was shown the door.
Over the years, I've been treated to some really cool cars. My Dad operated a car lot after he sold his restaurants. We had an inventory of 15-20 autos and, always had a few 'special' units...'70 Boss 302, '69 Shelby GT 500 and a host of Corvettes. This Plymouth is a 'stunner,' a rare piece of automotive history--it looks sensational. Lou, of all the You Tubers doing this type of video; you are certainly among the best. DEDICATION is the KEY word here! It's NOT easy restoring rare oldies, bc so many parts are unavailable! We need much patience searching for parts from all areas of the Continent! I think this hobby has improved in the past little while bc there is a DEMAND for classic car parts more now than ever! When I had my 1965 Mustang conv. in the early 80s there were some parts available from re-manufacturers in the USA. The ads were in the back of different magazines back then. Now we have the internet to make it easier to track parts.
This is literally a resurrection of a true American classic. A museum class restoration these guys must have quite a clientele I wish them much success and this car story is a classic as well. Thank Lou

Thanks for posting Lou. Great work by Randy and Mike for rescuing this beauty. I'd never heard of the Sonoramic Commando, so I've got some googling to do.

This car and its restoration are truly amazing!! Thank you Lou for showcasing this gem, and a big thanks to the auto restorers that bring these classics back to life.
Wow Lou, you know the car is a stunner when you have JFK admiring it at one o’ clock! What a jewel. Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful project.
An amazing restoration to be proud of, first class. A car with tail fins at their best. A real gem, the RCA record player, just imagine in 1960 driving along listening to the latest Chubby Checker hit. Such nostalgia !
Lou, I bought my grandpas car when I was 15. It was a 60 Plymouth Fury Wagon. It was a big boat. White and had a 318. I drove it all over the place. My favorite feature about it was the speedometer. Those were the fun days. This is a real find here Lou! Pretty rare car being a convertible.

I took this to a car show recently and a fellow was looking at the pictures of the car in the junk pile and asked "why didn't you start with a better car"? I said, "I never thought of that" until he said it. This was the car we had so this is the one we restored. I was skeptical about whether Rusty Mike could restore it also, but he said "it's not so tough, I've done worse cars before". Mike works alone!

Unfreakingbelievable!!!! To call that magnificent ride a basket case is beyond an understatement 😉. Randy thanks for continually sharing your treasure trove of a beautiful classic majestic vehicles. And Mike you are the restorer whisperer 😝
Lou, This thing is amazing! I am always astounded that the body style of Plymouth's went from the grandiose style of this '60 to the "style by committee" '63 Savoy...ooof.
If that were an original 1960 Plymouth color, I could see them calling it "caramel bronze." Great video as always Lou! As you probably know, RUclipsr "ColdWarMotors" has been restoring a 1960 Plymouth 2 door hardtop. He has done quite a bit of heavy metal surgery on that baby. I think he replaced both rear quarter panels because of too much Alberta rust. But I think the restoration story on this car upstages even CWM's effort.
Love the 60 plymouth.! An amazing restoration of a pile of ( basically ) junk.! I'd like to know how many man hours it took to bring this one back to life... and only 2 years. ! Fantastic Fury ! Thanks Lou & Randy, and to Mike ,for his great restoration work. !
Great example of a 60 Fury. 🤩🤩🤩 I've been watching a restoration on 'Cold War Motors'. Unbelievable what it takes, to end up with a beautiful stock Fury, from very little.
Absolutely stunning. Almost brings a tear to my eyes. Even the parts it took to put that car together are rare as hen's teeth. I owned a 1962 Fury hard top with the 318 Polly, back in the 1990's, which the designer Virgil Exner called "plucked chickens", due to their lack of fins. Even when I had my 62, parts were next to impossible to get ahold of because of how few of these mid-century modern Chryslers survived due to rust issues and lack of interest. I think I spent close to $1,000 just to get the brakes sorted out back then. I still believe Wes Craven's movie "Christine" saved many of these once forgotten "forward look" Mopar's.
While "Christine" was a John Carpenter movie, I believe your sentiment exactly. In fact, Stephen King wrote the book in part as a remembrance of a '58 Plymouth he once owned. The build is just fabulous. Nearly unbelievable!
GREETINGS. From Venezuela, WOW! WOW! IMPRESSIVE PLYMOUTH FURY CONVERTIBLE. Super cool Caramel/Milky color combination. Mr.Lou, Thank you very much for showing us this INCREDIBLE CONVERTIBLE. Mr. Lou, Thanks for taking us along for a ride ride. As always an EXCELLENT AUTOMOBILE VIDEO.
My late friend Elnora bought a car just like this in the early 1960's. It was mint (seafoam) green with a beige interior and convertible top. The original owner apparently couldn't keep up the with new car payments and it went back to the dealer. His loss was her gain. The dashboard mounted rear view mirror was a Chrysler product feature in the late 50's to early 60's. I like the style and placement of the side mirrors. The new cars nowadays have those big wing mirrors that sometimes can block your view of approaching traffic from the passenger side. The lack of a Park button for the automatic transmission and the safety issue if the emergency brake slipped caused Chrysler to add a Park sliding lever I believe in 1961. This was under the pushbutton pad and it would lock the transmission. From 1956 through 1960 I understand people would put the cars in Reverse gear when they parked for added safety.
Yeah Lou, What foresight these gentlemen have to save a heap off the side of a hill and transform it into a JEWEL such as that! Like you said "Jaw Dropping". God Bless America and the men that keep this hobby going!
I absolutely agree with all the other comments and anything I have to say is an understatement - this is an incredible piece of work. Mike is a dedicated craftsman (+ magician!) The record player is a quirky unit - I don't think these ever really took-off as a popular option? Would have been fun to see it work. Thanks for bringing us this video.
Hi N Mcg, Happy to read you enjoy the restoration of this car :-) I agree, you rarely see the record player so it must not have worked to well. You're welcome, Lou
Words fail me... Tell the truth, this is the most amazing My Car Story I've ever seen. I totally love a '60 Fury - Virgil Exner's masterpiece. And with the 383 "SonoRamic Commando" it's an extraordinary car. As same as Mike's restoration work. Wow! Thank you so much for this video, Lou. I have to add it to my playlist.
To think only 10 years later no Plymouth had half the ornateness this car had. The mid '50s through early '60s were definitely a time for cars that will most likely never repeat

I'm always amazed by the cars you find to showcase on your channel but I have to say that this one flabbergasted me!! To see where it came from to its total restoration was truly amazing! Thanks Lou for another great " My Car Story" !!😉
I inherited a hard top like this...1960 Fury, 318 c.i, yellow, continental kit, square steering wheel, push button automatic...but no "commando", no record player, no swivel seat and not those optional pads on the doors. It obviously has some rust, needs a full restoration, but it is not damaged and is complete. It has been in storage since 1971and has not been started since 1983...but far from "riverbank material".
My brother in law bought a 1959 new and I learned how to drive in it. The transmission selector buttons were vertical (top to bottom) but I seem to recall a lever in a slot next to those buttons that manually selected PARK. Maybe I'm thinking of a newer car I drove.😀😀😀
Magnificent restoration of the 1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible. A high fin, gorgeous chrome and powerful Chrysler classic ! Congratulations to the professional restorers ! Thanks, Lou for this video . Those cars are real works of art, luxury and comfort.

In addition Lou, my neighbor in Council Bluffs , Iowa, unbeknownst to me , Gerry Bahnsen, brother of Yankee pitcher in the sixties, Stan Bahnsen, lived two blocks from me and one day he came driving over to my house in a brand new, blue with white top, 60 Plymouth convert continental. Had a four barrel and was higher rated hp then my 307?. The three of us while growing up played baseball in the little park across from my house. In fact, Gerry broke my nose when I was catching for Stan and stepped into the swing. I just could not believe there were two Plymouth Furies in my neighborhood probably built on the line together. I bought mine from Jonnie Baxter in Omaha and I think Gerrie's came from the Plymouth dealer in C.B. He didn't know I had one till he drove by in his, obviously he studied the car before he ordered because he bought the souped up version. Wow Memories.

I saw pictures of this car before its restoration years ago...It gave me incentive to save my Dads ROUGH 61 Chrysler NewYorker two door as well as I bought a Fury two door...
One very rare bird with 383 and 2x 4 barrel AFB’s. I had a buddy with two of these ‘60 Sonoramic Plymouth ragtops. He sold both. Another buddy with an even rarer 1957 Dodge D501 ( look it up). The ‘57 had a 392 Hemi with 2 x 4 AFB’s rated at 375 horses. Probably the fast car made in 1957.
Really love the mid 50’s onward Chrysler products Lou! You are the king of classic cars on You Tube. Thank you for your time and effort showing us these beautiful cars from the past. Thx again Lou!
My parents had the 1960 Belvedere with the record player. I think they got rid of it because when they left me in the car I’d pretend to be a race car driver and would pop those push buttons of the track every time. Thank God my dad was a mechanic and could get them back on their track.

I have to admit that the looks of a 1960 have grown on me. I used to think they were hideous but now I like them. I would have walked away from what that car once. Can’t believe it was brought back to life. Restoration costs HAD to far exceed the value BUT the results are a total WOW! I can’t imagine the number of hours or the TALENT that was required!

Wow Lou, you know the car is a stunner when you have JFK admiring it at one o’ clock!
What a jewel.
Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful project.

Happy to read this is a favorite of yours :-)
WHAT a TREAT Lou! I am so happy you met this crazy MOPAR man. He has all of my Favorites!
Hi gene978, Happy to share this "MOPAR Man" and his cars with you :-) Lou
An amazing restoration to be proud of, first class. A car with tail fins at their best. A real gem, the RCA record player, just imagine in 1960 driving along listening to the latest Chubby Checker hit. Such nostalgia !
Hi Derek, Happy to read you appreciate the work on this restoration :-) Glad to read you enjoy this "real gem". Lou
Hairy Larry, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Grandpas Wagon :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Chrysler had some of the most outrageous designs back then! What a beautiful old car. The restoration is unreal!
Hi Chris, Happy to read you appreciate the work of this restoration and looks of this car :-) Lou
Great Treat Lou, Randy and Mike. Loving this after watching Scott on Cold War Motors restoring his!
Hi CJ Design, Happy to read you enjoy this "Great Treat" :-) Lou
If you keep a keen eye out in the brochure, that's Bill Bixby from My Favorite Martian
Hi James, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I am very fussy, so is family regarding cars. That was an expensive Plymouth brand new!! The restoration is unreal!

Hi Randy, Thanks for sharing, Lou
I was born in 1956 and became aware of cars at an early age. I don’t remember ever seeing many 1960 Plymouth’s.
I missed by 2 days,Those Kelsey Hayes wheels look super too,& the mirror & steering wheel & its just a Plymouth.
Hi Dave, Happy to read you became aware of cars at an early age :-) NICE! Lou
Incredible Restoration and Plymouth. Love this car! Bring's back wonderful memories for sure! Huge Mopar fan and learned to drive in a '68 Fury.

Unfreakingbelievable!!!! To call that magnificent ride a basket case is beyond an understatement 😉. Randy thanks for continually sharing your treasure trove of a beautiful classic majestic vehicles. And Mike you are the restorer whisperer 😝
Hi Terry M, Happy to read this one is "Unfreakingbelievable!!!!" :-) Lou
That is a work of art!
HI Old man from OC, Happy to read you enjoy this "work of art!" :-) Lou
Lou. My God. One of my favorite Plymouths. This almost brought me to tears. It's beautiful.
Edmund. Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours :-) Lou
Lou, This thing is amazing! I am always astounded that the body style of Plymouth's went from the grandiose style of this '60 to the "style by committee" '63 Savoy...ooof.
Hi Audie, Happy to read "This thing is amazing!" :-) Lou
If that were an original 1960 Plymouth color, I could see them calling it "caramel bronze."
Great video as always Lou!
Hi Marshall, Thank you for the kind words on the video. Appreciate you sharing the tip on ColdWarMotors" too, Lou
Hi Kevin, Happy to read you "Love" this car :-) Glad to share what this car looked like to start with in an amazingly quick time. You're welcome, Lou
The pinnacle of Plymouth . Thanks.
High praise John :-) You're welcome.
The Bankers Hotrod!
:-)
Great example of a 60 Fury. 🤩🤩🤩
I've been watching a restoration on 'Cold War Motors'. Unbelievable what it takes, to end up with a beautiful stock Fury, from very little.
Hi asteverino, Happy to read you enjoy this "Great example" :-) Lou
This guy must have a magic wand ✨ and waved it over that Plymouth to make it look like that.
"This guy must have a magic wand" I agree.
Hi The1cdccop, High praise :-) Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1962 Fury :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Greetings Alejandro, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
Hi Biblio Bill, Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and an e-mail too, Lou
Yeah Lou, What foresight these gentlemen have to save a heap off the side of a hill and transform it into a JEWEL such as that! Like you said "Jaw Dropping". God Bless America and the men that keep this hobby going!
Yeah lonnyjaw, Happy to share this JEWEL with you. AMEN! Lou
This is my favorite year for the Fury. Incredible restoration! Mopar Candy 😁
Hi David, Happy to read this is your favorite Fury year :-) Lou
Everything about this car is over the top, since this is nearby where I live, maybe I will see it cruising.
Hi Andy, Hope you see this one cruising soon :-) Lou
I absolutely agree with all the other comments and anything I have to say is an understatement - this is an incredible piece of work. Mike is a dedicated craftsman (+ magician!)
The record player is a quirky unit - I don't think these ever really took-off as a popular option?
Hi Plymouth Die-Cast Replicas, High praise :-) You're welcome, Lou
Fantastic! A car that looks like it's ready to go into outer space! Love it! 👍
Happy to read "Love it!" :-)
To think only 10 years later no Plymouth had half the ornateness this car had. The mid '50s through early '60s were definitely a time for cars that will most likely never repeat

1960 pretty much marked the end of giant vertical fins. With this car they went out with quite the exit! Thanks Lou!
Hi Mountain Climber, Happy to share this car with "giant vertical fins" with you. You're welcome, Lou
I'm always amazed by the cars you find to showcase on your channel but I have to say that this one flabbergasted me!! To see where it came from to its total restoration was truly amazing!
Thanks Lou for another great
" My Car Story" !!😉
Hi George S, Happy to read this one "flabbergasted me!!" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Another sweet one! 😀
I agree.
Hi Garnet, Sounds like a great car. Hope it comes out the way you like :-) Lou
My brother in law bought a 1959 new and I learned how to drive in it. The transmission selector buttons were vertical (top to bottom) but I seem to recall a lever in a slot next to those buttons that manually selected PARK. Maybe I'm thinking of a newer car I drove.😀😀😀
Hi THG Driver, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your "Drivers Education car" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
wow. When he got on it early that's Lou and his bud going to sock hop in 60s cause running late. Awesome car
Hi Keith, Happy to receive a "wow" from you :-) Lou
.. most beautiful 😍❤️ color ever
Happy to read you enjoy this color :-)
Magnificent restoration of the 1960 Plymouth Fury Convertible. A high fin, gorgeous chrome and powerful Chrysler classic ! Congratulations to the professional restorers ! Thanks, Lou for this video . Those cars are real works of art, luxury and comfort.
Hi Juan, Happy to read the details and restoration work you enjoy with this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou

Hard to believe it only took 2 years for the restoration.
Right! I think his black 300G took 8 years!😳
Hi Pete, I agree, this build in this time is amazing. Lou
Ikr,I mean from where he started????
Thank you for saving these wonderful masterpieces of American history.
Hi Peter L, Thankfully other people are saving them, however I'm having a BLAST videoing them to share with you. You're welcome, Lou
Hi John, Stan might have been a pitcher, however Gerry had a "Home Run" of a car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile For Sure.
Back in the day, my neighbor had a 59 sport fury commando V8 3 on the tree. The car ran like a scalded dog.

This is why Mopar's from this period are so rare compared to Fords or GM's. They weren't considered collectable and ended up in land fills.
Hi dflf, Thanks for viewing and sharing. Lou
Wow! Bringing it back to 100% like new from the point of extinction is really amazingly remarkable. Kudos to you guys!
Thanks for sharing you appreciate the work to restore this car :-)
You don't want to go to 6 bars after you've been at the bar!
:-)
I saw pictures of this car before its restoration years ago...It gave me incentive to save my Dads ROUGH 61 Chrysler NewYorker two door as well as I bought a Fury two door...
Hi Jay, Happy to read this car gave you an incentive. Hope your Dads 1961 Ne Yorker turns out the way you like it, Lou
Hi Kim, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Buddy with two nice cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Phenomenal restoration job!!!! That is such a beautiful car and that color definitely looks like a tasty caramel candy cube!!!! Awesome car!!!
Hi Hobiemarty, High praise :-) Lou
Really love the mid 50’s onward Chrysler products Lou! You are the king of classic cars on You Tube. Thank you for your time and effort showing us these beautiful cars from the past. Thx again Lou!
Hi David, Happy to share this "classic car" with you :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
Wow now that's an engine! How about playing "Bad To The Bone" on the record player? Awesome Fury fellas thanks for this feature 👍
Hi Bruce H., Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) You're welcome, Lou
That car is awesome. I am glad there are guys out there saving these rare rides.
Happy to read you enjoy this "awesome" car :-)
Great job in this restoration I used to own a number of Plymouth fury’s! Beautiful!
Hi Lyall, Happy to read you appreciate the work on this car :-) Glad to read you had some fun Fury's too, Lou

Hi Craig, Cars have an amazing way of looking better with age :-) Lou
I'm not an expert but they took that restoration & hit it out of the park.Eye candy everywhere..
amazing work and dedication to a project idea thru to the finish. about as common as this car is. Wish the owner well with it . IMAGINE knowing this car was in your garage and every morning you could go dust it off for a drive.
