Subscribed, a comment on YT deserves zero credit, this is one beautiful 59, black on black the most difficult to get really right, this car nails it, just jaw dropping. My lowly b on b c4 corvette (good but not this good) pails in comparison…
I can tell you, at 55 years old, being raised in the midwest, you have absolutely no idea what it's like to grow up here. Even coming here and becoming a citizen later, there's no comparison. Knowing every night you go to bed and every morning you wake up, you were born in this country, and you're actually here, is a blessing that's nearly indescribable. And these cars are a tangible reminder of that experience.
By far, these are the most beautiful automotive tailfins ever. Truly iconic. This is my favourite vehicle from Steve Plunkett's incredible collection! Thank you Lou, and thank you Steve, for allowing us to see so many fine cars!
"By far, these are the most beautiful automotive tailfins ever. Truly iconic. This is my favourite vehicle from Steve Plunkett's incredible collection!" High praise....and some high fins too :-) You're welcome Mike.
Steve is such a wonderful caretaker of his automobiles. It's great that he drives them and doesn't just "trailer queen" them. "When you can check your taillights in the rear view mirror." Priceless!
Well, I'm pretty sure I was drooling during this video. What a fantastic Cadillac that is an icon of the classic car community! Mr. Plunkett is such a gracious host and always has something interesting for us to learn about and enjoy. Thanks, Lou!
I was born in May '57, when all 5 GM divisions were close to completion on the "crash re-do" of their '59 cars after it was determined (in the Summer of '56), the facelifted '58s would not work at all upon seeing the sleek and finned '57s from Chrysler. It was already too late to change the '58s, but there was time to re-do the '59s, which the designers finished in the nick of time.
@@viciouspoodle5543 I'm a bit kinder to the '61 Cadillac, and really like the '61 Pontiac and Buick. The Chevy was clever in transitioning away from the horizontal fins of '58-'60 retaining the branching-out style, but with a ridge that wrapped around to the sides. The only one I didn't like (except for the Starfire) that year was the Oldsmobile. I didn't care for the '60 Olds either. It wasn't ugly, but was plain and boring. It also had NO hood or fender ornament at all. Fortunately it did return again for another several years.
I was born in 2003,-the Z generation)), and the 59-61 eldorado is my fav from dorados, the Last 12th gen of eldorado (92-02) is so ugly, and the modern "Cadillacs" with the Chinese details is so gay, lol...
WOW! The 59 Biarritz has long been my favorite modern era Cadillac. I've always been a huge fan of red, but this black is incredible. The paint just compliments the over the top design. Incredible!

When I was a teenager, I dreamed of owning one of these, in silver, inspired by a Cadillac ad. To me it was the ultimate 50s car. I would have kept it at the beach in my ocean front beach house and would have driven it while there on vacation. Hey, when you dream, dream big. That big dream never came true, but it's still nice to recall it when I see this car. So thanks, Lou, for showing us this stunning Eldorado Biarritz.

Another great episode, Lou. I was very young when cars of this era were on the streets in Brooklyn. Remember being dwarfed by the sheer size of these behemoths!
'Special Interest Autos', a branch of Hemmings, did an article on a white one of these a few decades ago and also said 99 bucket seat models were made. They were supposed to be less comfortable than the bench seat models, because they did not tilt, and sat abnormally close to the floor. This forced peoples' legs straight out in front. I've always wondered whether it was possible to replace the flimsy plastic back window with some form of glass one. Beautiful example.

Hi, Lou! Well, here it is, the Granddaddy Caddy, the ultimate in motoring majesty! You and I both noticed how the cardinals just couldn't stop singing about this one! Thanks to you and Steve for taking us along on this opulent, outrageous black gold ride (and you'll need plenty of Texas tea)!
Another beauty from a world-class collection. Cars and their designs have certainly changed from America's Golden Age era of vehicles. What once were annual redesigns to get customers to constantly trade in their vehicles for a new model (likely still a manufacturer's goal), the emphasis now is to keep costs down and have a global platform for many models/crossovers. Of course safety/emissions standards also played a role. Some stunning designs at that time even for cars that were attainable. There are some beautiful cars today but mostly exotic sports cars that are priced accordingly. Would love to see some examples of the the 30's Caddy's mentioned in the vid. Thanks Steve for sharing your stellar collection and Lou for taking us along for the ride.

Happy to read "Absolutely beautiful car." :-) Glad to read you learned something from the video. I'm learning all the time, and I find that to be so much fun. You're welcome Steve!
CJ, when you said “the 50’s icon”, you knocked it out of the park. It truly WAS representative of 1950’s auto design - and even excess! But whether you liked it or not, it was THE icon!

Ahoy big bro Lou! WOW. First off-could you picture me knocked out 😵, sans floppy sneakers (blown off) and slung over one of those rear fins, man? My white tube socked stocking lightweight JV baseball jock calves 'n feet limply dangling? How's that for a JV Johnny branding, Lou? Then from the fin to over a guy's shoulder 🤣🤪. This Cadillac is outrageous and completely in your face. The oily black paint and top indeed make it look like the Grim Reaper's steed, but that just adds to it's awesomeness. As it "accelerated" it just went forward, like a somewhat cumbersome land barge, in no rush to go anywhere lol 😜, but happy to have folks stare and wave. A great piece of post War American history right there, Lou. Thanks big bro! JV Johnny ⚾⚾😵
Hey JV Johnny, Happy to have you aboard! We're keeping you inside the car as the fins are waxed and too slippery to hold onto. This one's a floater, so no KO hear, just smooth sailing :-) You're welcome, Lou
The most incredibly awesome Cadillac ever! I love the 1948-1962 Cadillacs! Designed by Harley Earl and Chuck Jordan from 1948 to 1960, and 1961-62 by Bill Mitchell and Chuck Jordan. For me, Cadillac began losing its style in 1963, and kept going downhill after that. The only bright spot after that for me is the 1967-1970 Eldorado. Thanks for sharing Lou!

It's interesting the way Cadillac used that grill for 1959-60, changed to a different grill for 1961-62, and returned to a very similar grill for 1963-64.

We are all temporary owners of these cars. This one unbelievable example is a message we send to the future of how free our designers were to express our optimism. And BLACK - the most unforgiving bodyman’s color, and the best to show the care under which it is currently owned. Salute!
My biker cousin Carlos had one, exactly like this one (it might have been a standard model, but it had the big fins, and it was a convertible, and black)! He was infamous in our neighborhood for racing it down our street, at high speed, backwards!

Most beautiful car ever made IMO, absolutely gorgeous!!! I own a 58 Olds here in NH but it's not a 59 Cadillac that's for sure
"Most beautiful car ever made IMO, absolutely gorgeous!!!" High praise. Happy to read you have a great car too.
Absolutely gorgeous
Happy to read "Absolutely gorgeous" :-)
Elegant. Iconic. Timeless. A moving masterpiece
Well said. High praise.
Even though black is not favorite color of mine, this Eldorado Biarritz is one fine example of past American luxury. I can picture this Caddy in White Diamond Tricoat with a burgundy top (like mine). Thank you again Lou.
Happy to share this "fine example" with you :-) You're welcome Steven.
Absolutely beautiful car !! I had a '59 Fleetwood as a kid of 18... I couldn't afford to keep gas in it, and I worked at a gas station !!! LOL !!!! Practically had to give back my paycheck every week to my Boss !! But MAN OHHH MAN, what a car !!

@@loucostabileDone!
Someone once called the '59 Caddy "the epitome of garish excess"... so true ! But I always loved them and still do.... I guess "excess" can be beautifully executed (unlike the '58 Olds and Buick). This specimen is awesome.
Hi Peter, "This specimen is awesome." High praise :-) Lou
One of your best featured cars Lou! 😍😍😍😍😍 Thank you!
High praise motorTranz! You're welcome!
Just marveling at the radio antenna... My '85 BMW 325e had one that went up and down with power on... Love it!... What have we now?...

Could you imagine the 1959 Buick front end with those Cadillac back fins what a wild looking machine 👍👍😁😁😁
That would look interesting.

@@loucostabile Is this an automated/AI response?
Hi iswc27, "Well, here it is, the Granddaddy Caddy" Yes it is :-) Happy to share this "Tea Party" with you. You're welcome, Lou
Absolutely gorgeous!!!

@@loucostabile I will never get tired of seeing this car. Hello from California.
Oh, Lou! You outdid yourself with that “THE END” comment at the end. Brilliant quip!!
:-)
Lou, now that is a piece of Detroit iron for sure! Nice video
Hi Dan, A BIG piece of Detroit Iron....just the way we like it :-)
🙋♂️THANKS LOU ,STEVE FOR SHARING HIS BLACK BEAUTY 🤩🤗💚💚💚
Happy to share "BLACK BEAUTY" with you :-) You're welcome Budget Audiophile Life-long
Another beauty from a world-class collection.
Hi cardo, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome. Did you see this video? Lou ruclips.net/video/K42ZhZ1qhDE/видео.html
One of the most beautiful cars ever produced, in my opinion.
High praise.
What a lovely car. My parents had a 59 Fleetwood in white when I was small. I have a photo of me sitting on the front fender.

Very nice example of the ultimate land yacht.
ALL ABOARD!
Absolutely beautiful car. I've learned a great deal just from this video and the Bob Hope caddy vid. These vehicles were way ahead of their time in terms of technology that's for sure. I had no idea they had all these high tech accoutrements on them. Thanks Lou!
Happy to read "Absolutely beautiful car." :-) Glad to read you learned something from the video. I'm learning all the time, and I find that to be so much fun. You're welcome Steve!
The 50's Icon...nuff said...Thanks Steve and Lou.
NICE! You're welcome CJ Design.
CJ, when you said “the 50’s icon”, you knocked it out of the park. It truly WAS representative of 1950’s auto design - and even excess! But whether you liked it or not, it was THE icon!
Lou, The Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island Mi. Has a 1959 Limo they use to bring executive's from the Airport in Pellston Mi. to the Ferry in Mackinac city Mi. What a treat to see this Time Capsule at the Docks!😇Your a Lucky guy to hang with Auto "Classy" lovers!
Brent, Happy to read this car brings to mind the 1959 Limo in MI :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Lou, another great Cadillac video. The wings on the tips of the front fenders are Egyptian wings which were first used on the 1941 model. Steve's collection is out of this world! 1962 was the first year for Cadillac's dual master cylinder.
Dan, Happy to read "another great Cadillac video. & Steve's collection is out of this world!" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Yes, Cadillac and AMC Rambler were the first in 1962.
Such a great car, I think it looks the best in black. thanks for sharing such a great ride !
Happy to read you enjoy this "great car" :-) Glad you're along for the ride. You're welcome.
The most classic and beautiful Cadillac of all times. If I could, I’d get one for myself without thinking. Thanks for sharing Lou. Btw. I told my dad about your channel and should be following it already.

Happy to read "Awesome!" You're welcome.
"The most incredibly awesome Cadillac ever!" High praise. Stay tuned for those 1967 - 1970 Eldorados you like :-) You're welcome Donald!
I like how the interior, the back seats and how the metal seats look, it looks like a luxuary car!

It's interesting the way Cadillac used that grill for 1959-60, changed to a different grill for 1961-62, and returned to a very similar grill for 1963-64.
Thank you for sharing what you notice.
