@@kansasjayhawk8386 They sanitized it. They tried to make it so family friendly and politically correct that they squeezed all of the danger and menace out of it. Everybody used to know that the roots of it all was running moonshine through the hills.
(Thunder Road, anybody?) Lots of people today have never heard of this. You used to have to watch yourself if you went to the races in Atlanta in those days. It's the same thing in Las Vegas. It was the safest place in the world if you behaved yourself, but people used to love coming here to be around the fringe of the old time mobsters and kind of "warm their hands by the devil's fire." This was all part of the allure.
      Same with the blues.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B. King were exciting because they lived the life they sang about.
All of these things had a shady, dangerous past, and that was what gave them their mystique and made them fun and exciting. NASCAR was no different.
But when mega corporations try to make everything non threatening and inoffensive, They ruin it. There's nothing left by the time they get done. It's like the difference between a juicy delicious burger you cook and eat at home and one of those things you get at the drive through at McDonald's.
