You need to watch HTTYD Riders of Berk and Race to Dragons Edge, Those 2 series have so much lore additional info, new dragons and act as more like a fill in the area between movies.
I've always appreciated how maturely they treat the death of stoic. There's no cheesy, breathy final words from him. No "I love you, my son" moment, he is just suddenly gone. And I think that makes it so much more impactful.
@@caipagkatipunan6297right I think that’s what made it so emotional because of how real it felt. Everyone was quiet full of tears when I saw this at the theatres such a sad but beautiful scene.
I know this is late, but I honestly think the saddest part of this movie is Drago’s weapon. For those who don’t know, that’s a bullhook. And it’s most commo use was as a tool used for terrorizing, torturing and abusing baby elephants so they still fear their master when they’re fully grown. Drago did that to his bewilderbeast, torturing and breaking it from the moment it hatched. That poor dragon was tortured and brainwashed since it was the equivalent of a newborn child. Learning the truth about that weapon, Drago’s bewilderbeast is honestly the saddest and most heart breaking part of the movie. Poor dragon knew nothing but fear, pain and obedience since it hatched, and as much as love and affection can imprint on a young animal, so can fear. The grey bewilderbeast was completely innocent in this movie. It was a completely and utterly traumatised animal terrified of it’s master since childhood. It’s why I personally can’t stomach the triumphant “final fight” of every single dragon blasting it. The poor creature didn’t deserve any of it, there’s no triumph in brutalizing a scared animal acting only out of fear and trauma.
DreamWorks are great at those heartfelt reunions. There's a particular one in Spirit that comes to mind, and I hope Niall watches that one someday. It's an underrated animated masterpiece.
If Stoic's death hurt, imagine seeing the series faithfully between the two movies... where there is a lot of development. And almost immediately after reuniting with Valka. It's like poor Hiccup was destined not to have both of his parents at the same time for long 😭 Dreamworks truly knows how to make sequels, and it shows. One of the best trilogies ever made.
Here, Hiccup is 20. Hiccup and Astrid's love story grows through a holiday special, and a series first set right after the first film, and next two years before the second one.

I understand that Drago’s yells seem a little over the top! Believe me, I don’t fault anyone for feeling that way because of how wild he gets. But to me, they make sense when I consider that he’s essentially the antithesis of someone like Hiccup or, more specifically, Valka. Think about it. Valka lived among dragons for 20 years, and we saw how that time span impacted her approach and mannerisms in her mission to protect them. Drago, however, was physically hurt and stripped of everything by dragons when he was a boy (his monologue about this wasn’t featured in the reaction, though). Then, fueled by his desire for revenge and with no one to tell him otherwise, he sought to control all dragons! So, imagine someone like Drago dedicating at least double the amount of time Valka did among dragons but learning about ways to control dragons rather than protect them! Hence why he communicates with the dragons with yells rather than gentler gestures. But that long time period also cemented those beliefs of controlling dragons into Drago’s psyche to the point where he felt it was the ONLY way to deal with dragons, and he took his frustrations out on anyone who wouldn’t listen or follow that point of view (hence why both Stoick & Valka said that Drago was a “mad men” and couldn’t be talked to or reasoned with). Anyway, all this is to say that, when I thought about it more, Drago’s actions and mannerisms made sense given his history.

there are actually two spinoff series. Riders of Berk aired on Cartoon Network for about 2 seasons which takes place months (if not weeks for the first few episodes) after the first film. Hiccup was 15 in the first film and about 15-16 in Riders of Berk. Then there was Race To The Edge, which aired on Netflix with 6 seasons. In that one, Hiccup is 18-19 and we see what sparked the relationship between him and Astrid and how they learned to navigate being romantic partners while also being leaders and battling their enemies alongside each other. The second film takes place a year after Race To The Edge, making Hiccup 20 years old. Gift Of The Night Fury is a holiday special on Netflix, taking place after the first movie. Dawn of The Dragon Racers is another special that takes place in between Riders of Berk and Race To The Edge and shows the origins of Dragon Racing I'll do an updated timeline when the 3rd film reaction drops so I don't spoil anything
Hey Niall! Just wanted to say, if you want the full story, you should check out dragons: riders if berk and Race to the Edge. However, riders of berk CAN be skipped if you just wanna cut to the chase. Race to the Edge is DEFINITELY worth the watch and takes place in the 5 years between 1 and 2. It shows a lot of Hiccup's new inventions, like his fire sword.
The tv show is unironically so good. Especially if you love getting to know new dragons. And there are some really cool tv show only characters. Like Dagur for example. That guy is unhinged.
i said it before but i really do recommend watching the series that takes place between 1 and 2. You get to see more of Hiccup growing up, the relationship between him and Astrid, more of Stoick's transformation, lore, and more dragons
does anyone know if niall has seen studio Ghibli movies? i'm so so enjoying this animation "era" (?idk what to call it xD) on the channel, and films like Spirited away or Kiki's delivery service come to my mind when u say like. stunning and heartwarming animation movies. that also teach you abt life kinda:) i always feel like animation movies that are originally made for kids, they have everything i need, and watching reactions of them is like comfortably enjoying them with a friend, so i'm rllyy glad this series is continuing
Just wait for the 3rd!! I still stand by that it's the most well-rounded trilogy I've ever seen, it's such a beautifully wrapped up series. I'm absolutely obsessed with this series and I'm so glad you're loving it!!
Nightfurys are like secret alphas and this movie made me realize that. that's probably also why they're so rare - how many dragons are there per Alpha? The ratio is probably huge, and that's likely why we never meet another Nightfury.
I know Stoic is complicated but he is literally the best. Grew up and saw a whole bunch of the episodes and oh my gosh Stoic was such an incredible dad. He didn’t always know the right thing but he always tried and believed in Hiccup while also wanting to protect him because he loves him. He is such a good dad. If you wanted to watch a couple of episodes of the show he is the best and Hiccup and him have a beautiful and complicated relationship full of so much admiration and love.
Non-spoiler answers to your questions/comments made in the video: - Most of the "kids" are 20 now (including Hiccup), except for the twins, who are 19. - Lmao, good job calling it that the masked figure was Hiccup's mum 😂 - You didn't include it, but during the scene where Stoick and Valka reunite, Gobber says "This is why I never married . . . this and one other reason." Guess what the "other reason" is? Clue: 🏳🌈 (confirmed by Craig Ferguson) - If you watch just one of the related short movies and tv shows, I highly recommend watching the short movie "Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury" before watching the third movie. It's set between movies 1 and 2, its events are briefly mentioned in movie 3, and it's just a lovely little movie in itself.
Still don't know how in the hell Drago controlled the dragons. I always chalked it up to him being a special kind of crazy even the dragons were scared of.
Drago technically didn't control them, he controlled the bewiderbeerst. He got ahold of it when it was an egg and abused it its entire life, and he made it control the dragons for him. :)
I don't SPECIFICALLY know how Drago controls the dragons but I kind of just guessed that all the screaming he does is to try and make himself seem scarier and assert dominance over dragons. Not only that, but Drago also found the Bewilderbeast as an egg so he raised and abused it ever since, which made it easier for him to control the dragons he couldn't assert dominance over.
@@niallnochillit also could have been dawn of the dragon racers LMAO, httyd has a looot of spinoffs. I'd recommend watching the christmas special if you're up to it!
this film is like. a masterclass in foreshadowing and payoff. if you pay attention, you can predict nearly everything that happens, but it doesn't detract from the story - every chekhov gun is fired, every knot tied, it's just beautiful.
You didn't include my favourite part of the movie It's when after Astrid says "That's your mother" and then Hiccup says "Well, now you know where I get my dramatic flair" (as Hiccup's hand closes his helmet plate)
I love your reaction Niall, I love this movie 🤣 That being said, cutting out the 'This, and one other reason' during pride month? How dare 🤣 jk jk I can't wait for you to watch the 3rd and if you have a chance watch both of the TV series they're lower in animation quality but the stories are great and they keep the og va's for Hiccup and Astrid and introduce my favorite character of the whole franchise, Dagur the Deranged
You need to watch Dragons: Race to the Edge it like a pre-sequal after the first movie before the second it explains where the king of dragons came from and stoick is still alive
The show has Hiccup and Astrid being bad b.tches and simping for each other for years before they actually became a couple as well as truly hilarious moments courtesy of the twins one of my personal favs is when Hiccup knocks out ________ with one punch just saying its worth watching Niall ( :
Gobber is such a gay icon ( the director or something made him gay to reflect himself that’s why he said “ that’s why I never married well that and one other reason”)
Saying you feel as though you missed his former years is super interesting because there are multiple series between the first and second movie. Riders of Berk and Race to the Edge are the biggest. Would DEFINITEY recommend at least Race to the Edge, but Riders of berk is a great watch too
ahhhh yay!! Early!! I love this movie so much it handles Hiccups character so well with his realistic growth as well as the grief with the death of his father! Such an amazing sequel!
Lol you were thinking race to the edge which is on netflix…it was great and hiccup and astrid basically get engaged in the show Edit:: RTTE is all bout hiccup and the gang exploring, and the timing/events are ambiguous enough to be mostly canon
If you're interested in seeing Hiccup's growth between the first and second film, maybe you'd be interested in checking out the shows on your own time? They are canon btw, and not only do they show how Hiccup matures and grows his leadership skills and gains confidence, but also lets you see more of his relationships with his father and Astrid and how they develop. If you want more Dreamworks Dragons content, I definitely recommend.

Wow, what an incredible sequel! I just finished watching *How To Train Your Dragon 2*, and I can't believe how much my emotions were all over the place. The storytelling was not only captivating but also layered with profound themes about family, loyalty, and self-discovery. This movie takes everything we loved from the first film and elevates it to a whole new level! I was so impressed by the character development, especially Hiccup. Watching him navigate his identity and responsibilities was both inspiring and relatable. The introduction of new characters like Valka added so much depth to the story, and I loved how the film explored her dynamic with Hiccup and Stoick. And can we talk about that breathtaking animation? The flying scenes were nothing short of mesmerizing! The way the film tackled heavier themes, like loss and acceptance, was done so gracefully and added an emotional weight that resonated deeply. I was in tears during some moments, especially when Hiccup had to confront the realities of being a leader. It made me appreciate the bond between humans and dragons even more, bringing back that profound message of understanding and harmony. And let's not forget the epic action sequences and stunning visual effects! The blend of adventure and heart is just perfect, and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next in the final installment. This experience has left me with so many thoughts and feelings, and I can't recommend it enough! It truly sets the bar for animated sequels. If you haven’t watched it yet or are just experiencing this for the first time, hold on tight because you're in for a wild ride! What did everyone else think about the emotional depth in this sequel? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Dawn of The Dragon Racers is another special that takes place in between Riders of Berk and Race To The Edge and shows the origins of Dragon Racing
I'll do an updated timeline when the 3rd film reaction drops so I don't spoil anything
And his flight suit lol
The tv show is unironically so good. Especially if you love getting to know new dragons. And there are some really cool tv show only characters. Like Dagur for example. That guy is unhinged.
"Missed his former years" YH BC U MISSED THE TV SHOW WATCH ITTTTTTT
i said it before but i really do recommend watching the series that takes place between 1 and 2. You get to see more of Hiccup growing up, the relationship between him and Astrid, more of Stoick's transformation, lore, and more dragons
I feel like everyone here loves HTTYD.
does anyone know if niall has seen studio Ghibli movies? i'm so so enjoying this animation "era" (?idk what to call it xD) on the channel, and films like Spirited away or Kiki's delivery service come to my mind when u say like. stunning and heartwarming animation movies. that also teach you abt life kinda:)
i always feel like animation movies that are originally made for kids, they have everything i need, and watching reactions of them is like comfortably enjoying them with a friend, so i'm rllyy glad this series is continuing
I love Studio Ghibli!! I would love for Niall to watch the movies!!
YES!! I've been waiting for u to drop this video, this movie is my absolute favourite 😭
you have great taste my good friend !!
Just wait for the 3rd!! I still stand by that it's the most well-rounded trilogy I've ever seen, it's such a beautifully wrapped up series. I'm absolutely obsessed with this series and I'm so glad you're loving it!!
I have a feeling number 3 is gonna have you sobbing lmao
Yeah
The only thing i hate about This movie is Valka coming back Just for Stoic to die. Fcking unfair
Nightfurys are like secret alphas and this movie made me realize that. that's probably also why they're so rare - how many dragons are there per Alpha? The ratio is probably huge, and that's likely why we never meet another Nightfury.
Why we meet another Nightfury is thoroughly explained in a couple sentences in the third film~
@@AlexanderStark ah. havent seen that one yet 😔 but im gonna rent and watch it soon i think
Yes but if there are so few night furys, they shouldn’t exist. Cuz how tf will they reproduce
With toothless the species ends
I know Stoic is complicated but he is literally the best. Grew up and saw a whole bunch of the episodes and oh my gosh Stoic was such an incredible dad. He didn’t always know the right thing but he always tried and believed in Hiccup while also wanting to protect him because he loves him.
He is such a good dad. If you wanted to watch a couple of episodes of the show he is the best and Hiccup and him have a beautiful and complicated relationship full of so much admiration and love.
8:39 Can't wait for you to see How To Train Your Dragon 3 😄
Hoping for the 3rd soon 👀
it’s been 24 minutes since i dropped this video 😭😭 i must rest my eyeballs
@@niallnochill indeed😂
This movie destroyed me bruh, i still remember.
I love your videos ❤❤❤ keep up The good Work ❤❤❤
Non-spoiler answers to your questions/comments made in the video:
- Most of the "kids" are 20 now (including Hiccup), except for the twins, who are 19.
- Lmao, good job calling it that the masked figure was Hiccup's mum 😂
- You didn't include it, but during the scene where Stoick and Valka reunite, Gobber says "This is why I never married . . . this and one other reason." Guess what the "other reason" is? Clue: 🏳🌈 (confirmed by Craig Ferguson)
- If you watch just one of the related short movies and tv shows, I highly recommend watching the short movie "Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury" before watching the third movie.
Yay, this post made my week!! 😄
and it’s now the weekend!! double the excitement!!
I love when Hiccup says that Toothless had to make it even! Because Toothless had to bite off his leg in the fire, small detail but amazing.
1:44 before he showed it I thought he meant race to the edge 😭
*Edit:* I just realized how EARLY I am like how is that possible-
Wait… maybe that IS what I was thinking of!? Idk, I just know they raced around 😂😂
@@niallnochill OMG THE KING REPLYSSS
@@niallnochillit also could have been dawn of the dragon racers LMAO, httyd has a looot of spinoffs. I'd recommend watching the christmas special if you're up to it!
this film is like. a masterclass in foreshadowing and payoff. if you pay attention, you can predict nearly everything that happens, but it doesn't detract from the story - every chekhov gun is fired, every knot tied, it's just beautiful.
Even though stoick can be a bit annoying, I do like that he’s still the same person with the same faults and personality.
NIALL, PLEEEEEAAAASE. WATCH. THE. SERIES!!! PLEASE IT’S AMAZING AND ITS REALLY GOOD AND YOU’ER GOING TO LOOOOOVE IT🐉👍🏻🔥🔥🔥🥵🦕🦖🦎❤🔥✨🔥🌈💥💍💝💖🐊🌺📜
You didn't include my favourite part of the movie It's when after Astrid says "That's your mother" and then Hiccup says "Well, now you know where I get my dramatic flair" (as Hiccup's hand closes his helmet plate)
I love your reaction Niall, I love this movie 🤣
That being said, cutting out the 'This, and one other reason' during pride month? How dare 🤣 jk jk I can't wait for you to watch the 3rd and if you have a chance watch both of the TV series they're lower in animation quality but the stories are great and they keep the og va's for Hiccup and Astrid and introduce my favorite character of the whole franchise, Dagur the Deranged
You need to watch Dragons: Race to the Edge it like a pre-sequal after the first movie before the second it explains where the king of dragons came from and stoick is still alive
Eret (and Skullcrusher) appreciators/fans
I love these two (perhaps too much)
👇
The show has Hiccup and Astrid being bad b.tches and simping for each other for years before they actually became a couple as well as truly hilarious moments courtesy of the twins one of my personal favs is when Hiccup knocks out ________ with one punch just saying its worth watching Niall ( :
so excited for this reaction, love your videos
Gobber is such a gay icon ( the director or something made him gay to reflect himself that’s why he said “ that’s why I never married well that and one other reason”)
I’m so glad someone else believes Astrid should be chief.
Obligatory comment
I LOVE YOUR VIDSSS 😭
tyyyyyy🤍
Fav film in the franchise. You gotta love dremworks for making a series for this film to tell us more bout the world
31:50 this scene mirrors the one in the first movie, except this time they succeeded in not hitting the tail!
I recommend looking up Kit Harington vs Toothless for a good laugh 😂🐉
there’s a reason this has been my favorite franchise since the first movie came out haha
Not gonna lie sometimes I will just do that symbol that made hiccup chief on my head for no reason
Saying you feel as though you missed his former years is super interesting because there are multiple series between the first and second movie. Riders of Berk and Race to the Edge are the biggest. Would DEFINITEY recommend at least Race to the Edge, but Riders of berk is a great watch too
33:28 it’s implied that Drago drowned when the alpha dived underwater
I've been waiting for this one 🎉
17:26 his name is cloudjumper and he is a male
"TAKE EM DOWN BABE!" 😊
One of the best quotes in this franchise
@@eurofalke6804 yess! 😊
You should watch race to the edge
To know more about httyd
Just wait until the 3rd One
Now that one made me Cry and Scream
It really is the perfect trilogy. You will love the 3rd as much as these 2! Piece of advice though... have tissues
ahhhh yay!! Early!! I love this movie so much it handles Hiccups character so well with his realistic growth as well as the grief with the death of his father! Such an amazing sequel!
You should definitely check out the tv shows. Race to the edge in particular is just as good if not better than the movies in my opinion.
I know I said this in the last video but I really think you'd enjoy the TV shows. They give so much depth to the characters and their dragons.
Lol you were thinking race to the edge which is on netflix…it was great and hiccup and astrid basically get engaged in the show
Edit:: RTTE is all bout hiccup and the gang exploring, and the timing/events are ambiguous enough to be mostly canon
absolutely gagged when stoic died bc even though i’ve seen these movies before, i’ve somehow completely forgotten about him dying
When you said ur going to do this movie I was like yeh he’s going to cry🤣😭😭
If you're interested in seeing Hiccup's growth between the first and second film, maybe you'd be interested in checking out the shows on your own time? They are canon btw, and not only do they show how Hiccup matures and grows his leadership skills and gains confidence, but also lets you see more of his relationships with his father and Astrid and how they develop. If you want more Dreamworks Dragons content, I definitely recommend.
Don't have to react but check out the tv shows!! Race to the Edge and defenders!!!
You see Stoick get Skullcrusher in Race to the edge and the 3/5 year gap between movies
Been waiting for this one. This series is my all time favorite. The movies just get better and better. Can't wait to see your reaction for The Hidden World. Its so good!
o7 for Hiccup's dad
(i dont know how to spell him name😭😭)
Stoick
I put down EVERYTHINGG!! Watching rnn
“Where no one goes” was UTTERLY MAGICAL in theaters 😭💙this movie makes me ugly sob every single time. It’s my favorite of the trilogy. It’s just packed with nonstop heart wrenching scenes.
Whether it be the music, the reunion between the parents and their dance, or when Stoic dies, or the ending. EVERYTHING makes me sob😭it’s such a good movie and I sobbed watching this video too🤣
Pleas just do three I can't wait Any more
@@emmadraws2966 I just finished watching it … the ending had me sobbing 😭😭
fun fact there is a show called race to the edge that takes place between movies 1 and 2 which is full of so much lore and so many unique dragons
Loveeeee your reaction videos. It's the best distraction from a bad day. I love the mood, the coziness, like the commentary is SO REAL. Take your time sis, but I'm hyped to see your reaction to the 3rd movie.
(time 2:45) ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy 😎
YESSS SLAY!! ok now do 3 HAHHAHAHAHA im sorry
I am so stoked!😁 I really loved your reaction and am exited to see what you will think of the next one😅. I cried at the end of the third one cause it hit so hard.
