      @@jasonkay742 can confirm... regularly got 16L/100km in my first gen with 2t behind it, easily can get down to 17 even into the 16's happily in next gen towing same weight... you can easily go worse than that though because hills that stressed the old one out doing 60 up the new one will go up at 80 easily... so if you were to take a next gen and a first gen and get the first gen to try to drive away from the next gen you'd be blown away how good the new one is on fuel when driven the same speeds with the same load.

    New Raptor can't tow that caravan legally I think. Raptor gen 2 kerb weight is 2431kg, GVM 3130kg and GCM is 5370kg. So if your caravan is 2500kg and you fully load the Raptor you are overweight by 260kg. So if you put a 2500kg van on the back, you can only add 439kg to the raptor, so two people and fuel and you don't have much to spare or have I got this wrong?

    • @poodletarmac3274
      @poodletarmac3274 Год назад +3

      Hi Ty, Would really appreciate a reply to this comment, am I wrong? As I think your viewers need to know about this stuff. Many viewers will be thinking off adding a bull bar, lights, roof rack, two way radio, bigger wheels and tyres and god knows what other accessories and maybe a dual battery system and unless I'm wrong they will be seriously over weight and illegal and uninsured in case of an accident?

    • @striff
      @striff Год назад +1

      Not sure about other states but in QLD it goes by actual weights. So my Hybrid camper is rated to 2500kg. But it's current weight fully loaded around is 1940kg.
      The tow ball down weight is 180kg. Adding 400Kg to the Raptor (two adults, one child and some other crap) it leaves me with the following:
      (GVM for Raptor Gen 2 is 3130KG and GCM is 5371)
      - 599 kg left of GCM
      - 560 kg left for ATM
      - 119 KG left for GVM
      So the limiting factor is the GVM for me, so as long as I don't load the car to the max it's fine and legal

    • @TyFenwick
      @TyFenwick  Год назад +2

      It can tow 2.5t legally but you need to subtract your down ball weight from your vehicles payload. And what ever payload you have left is what you have left then add people/gear etc.

    Interesting that they say no special requirements for towing in the mark 1 as standard when you have trailer sway control on the right hand steering wheel buttons menus. It is automatically on when enabled in the ECU ie on a standard factory towbar install and the hand book states you should select sport from the terrain management.

    Great vid!! I’m towing a 18ft forward fold camper behind a 2013 4cyl biturbo manual amarok. It does ok for what it is but it’s nothing like the new raptor, even the old raptor would be a big step up I reckon! Going to make my eventual upgrade very hard for sure!!

    I am currently between trucks and have had to borrow trucks from friends to move one of my trailers (none of the trucks had a gooseneck hitch so my other trailer, which is a 26k lb GVW flatbed, is not going anywhere for now). The trailer is a 30' enclosed car hauler that weighs about 3,800 lbs/1700 kg empty. Out of the 4 trucks (2 Ram 1500s, 1 Toyota Tundra and 1 Ranger) that I borrowed at various times over the last year and a half, none have been great. They moved the trailer fine, but they did not provide the stability that I am used to.
    My previous truck was a 2011 Ram 2500 Cummins that I sold shortly after ordering a Ford F450 in March of 2022. I wasn't expecting to be waiting close to this long for the Ford to be built.

    Shame about tow ratings based on a silly weight rule of 10% of down weight on ball. Its an excessive rule. Would tow 3 all day

    • @TyFenwick
      @TyFenwick  Год назад

      The spring rate in the vehicle is to hold up the vehicle in a safe manner, add on its pay load etc.
      Unfortunately the suspension design in Raptor is not meant to carry big weight other wise it can’t be so capable off-road and have that awesome suspension travel.
      If you added a heavier spring rate to it the back of the vehicle would sit so high and take the shock piston out on the “ride zone”.
      There’s always a compromise either one way or the other. The only way to possibly fix that is technical advancements in shock technology or spring technology possibly a magnetic fluid style shock etc.
      Why we have leaf spring rangers also for the weight carrying ability.
      There’s always a compromise.

      There’s always a compromise mate unfortunately. Based on the weight of the vehicle to stiff of spring and the vehicle will be out side the shocks ride zone. To light and clearly it won’t carry a load or support the weight of the vehicle. And unfortunately I don’t think there’s enough in a variable designed spring to combat both goals of heavy weight carrying and the extremely good off road ability. But technology and engineering keeps moving forward so il be keen to see where it goes in the future.
