this was a great video, thank you!! I have the Bi-Turbo Next Gen Everest and SO many people told me I should have gone the V6, I tow an extended horse float and have found it super impressive and don't feel the need to go for the V6, thanks again!! This totally validates my decision and quashes their over-enthusiastic arguments!!
Thanks Reuben for doing this comparison on V6 and Bi Turbo it was great and i think you have given me the info i need to replace my old PK RANGER 3.0L with a Bi turbo RANGER UTE i tow only 2-3x per year mate i have similar van to what you were towing both with mate . CHEERS Thanks great test Neville B 😀👍👌
I’ve have the V6 Ranger Sport since October 2022 & tow a 3T 19’6” Millard. I to get around 17L/100km. For the refinement & ease of towing in my opinion the V6 is worth the extra $3K over the biturbo & the extra 1L per km…👍
For a first time caravaner who's looking for a car to tow a 19" caravan, I really appreciate the basic info while you were driving like type of road, steepness of hill climbs and descent, gears and modes used to deal with the road, tyre pressure advice, driving speed in various situations, taking off at stop lights and so on. Helps me get a grip on what it'd actually be like in the car with caravan behind, much more so that the usual manufacture stats like kW and Nm. Don't want or need a Ute and will probably go with the Everest (liking the V6 Sport but the bi-Turbo is looks pretty good). Cheers.
Great video thanks Reuben!! I’d love to see a comparison video on the ram 1500 hemi and 2500 Cummins towing a 3.5t or bigger van. There’s plenty of big families with big vans that are torn on spending the extra for the big truck. Be good to see the difference with ease of towing and fuel consumption. Thanks mate! Your a legend!!
Good review thanks. I drove both a V6 Ranger and 2.0 bi-turbo Everest. They are both good engines but the V6 was certainly a lot nicer to drive, even without towing anything. The bi-turbo just felt courser and sounded a bit gaspy or airy while the V6 was noticeably smoother and quieter. For an extra few grand, few months delivery time and 1L/100 more, I'll take the better drive, performance and resale of the V6 every day.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's always interesting to hear firsthand comparisons between different engines. Sounds like the V6 Ranger left a lasting impression on you. Enjoy your adventures with it!
I got the v6 ranger wildtrak because i think the 2L would be a bit highly strung. But seeing videos like this about the 2L is actually pretty good, i almost wish i had waited for the Wildtrak X as that seems to suit my needs a little better. But that V6 is super smooth for a diesel!
Would love to see more on petrol towing as I hear about it coming back especially with the likes of the Y62, Ram trucks etc. Could even make a video on some old guzzlers like the FJ cruiser, Prado V6, GQ 4.2, Jeeps, 1FZ 80's etc. Doing the same loop in some of those rigs would be entertaining to watch.
I had a diesel tuned amarok that towed like a dream, problem is the ute tub though I can't stand them and would pick the Everest out of these two for that reason.
Good review, I’m waiting for a V6 and have been looking for a review comparing the Bi turbo and V6 for towing capability. Think I’ll stick with the V6 after watching this. Cheers
There's also another drawback to Adblue - while the 10 L tank should last around 10,000k, it is an additional cost of over $60 to fill and the main supplier is China. Remember during Covid Adblue was in short supply and the transport industry had priority and there were truck off the road from the lack of Adblue. Plus, it's just another thing to send your car into limp mode....
My little bro has a 2 wd everest, and for what he needs its a beast. He did 1400 klm from mildura to port mac and back again using 7-8 litres per 100, and on top of that he is not a driver, meaning he doesnt like driving long distance but he still did 1400 klms in 15 hours and felt good after it. I drove his everest for a couple 100 klms and it was a dream to drive, so easy. to be honest its a great car to drive in
Great video , as I was just at our local ford branch yesterday looking at everest, could you do ranger raptor tow review, I've got one on order, should arrive November,
Farmer and my cars tend to rural Milage. Bitdi Passat supposed to average 5.2 and I’ve seen 5..5 once, average in 80,000 been 6.3. My x350 Ute (yep, the hated one lol) is supposed to average 8.8…I’ve only had one full above 8 in 28,000km. Don’t know how manufacturers measure their fuel but I wish they would get their shit together.
Yeah mate loved the Vid very informative looking for a new tow tug for my new Van thanks very much have seen a lot of you on the tracks with Shaun Whale Thx again C U in the next one
Got the Everest V6. Recently did a trip from Sydney to Perisher. Averaged 14l (smaller caravan around 2t). Went thru 1/4 tank of adblue for the whole trip (1000km). I'd say that would offset a lot of saving and something to really consider.
Great comparison video Reuben, one thing i heard in other review is V6 is lot more quiet and comfortable to drive, did you feel the bi turbo was tad bit noisy in the cabin? I have ordered V6 sport.
Thanks for the great video! me and my partner are planning for the big lap around australia for about 7-8 months. we are stuck with two options for towing 3.2T caravan, whether to go with Everest V6 or Ranger Wildtrak V6. Personal choice is leaning towards Everest since we are SUV fans, but research is pointing us more towards the wildtrak v6. Would it make a great difference withe the wildtrak or it would be just fine and smooth with Everest?
That's awesome to hear! The V6 Everest must offer a different driving experience compared to the bi-turbo. It's great that you're enjoying the new engine. Happy travels with your V6 Everest!
Great vid with great content. I am looking to upgrade my current dual cab to a ranger and researching the 3.0Ltr V6 versus the 2.0Ltr Bi-Turbo so this is really helpful cheers!
At the end of the day the 4cyl Bi-turbo might be just better on fuel etc than the V6 but it's the long term reliability that you really got to take into consideration. Anyone will tell you that if you plan on keeping the car for many years to come then the V6 option is the way to go. All 4 cyl engine regardless of of running on Petrol or Diesel all have a life limit and that's usually 150,000 Kms. We are already seeing plenty 2L Bi-turbo engines having major problems which is the real reason Ford changed to the V6.
150,000km?! Jump on carsales and you’ll find so many with nearly twice that still going strong. If anything I’d be more nervous about getting this V6. It’s a new engine for Ford and unproven with a few documented failures already. The bi turbo on the other hand has been used for a few years now and has proven itself enough for Ford to continue its use and development.
@@dancummins147 the V6 has been with Ford for years and yes has seen some issues though apparently has been improved upon since then, much like the little 2ltr from what I have read

I have though about a 300mm chassis extension on the V6 for longevity and hard tracks. But I would get a 2L if it can handle touring Oz with 1 tonne in the back full time.
like the Everest wish we had them in the U..S. $74500 auz is about $48k US we pay that for a mom- mall -soft road ford explorer with a 2.3 4cy turbo . . I prefer the low spec base model .no 3rd row and luxury car bits that add wt . low spec model = more payload and towing
Considering the downside of the Everest seemed to be the suspension while towing on unsealed roads, do you think the 2ltr bi-turbo would be the best of both worlds?
The 2.0-liter bi-turbo engine in the Ford Everest offers a good balance of power and efficiency, and it may indeed provide a favorable towing experience on unsealed roads compared to larger engines. While engine choice is essential for towing performance, suspension tuning also plays a crucial role. The suspension setup of the Everest, including factors such as spring rates, shock absorbers, and overall damping characteristics, can significantly impact the vehicle's handling and ride comfort while towing. It's essential to consider how well the suspension is calibrated to handle the specific demands of towing on unsealed roads.
Great comparison Reuben...lotsa food for thought......keep up the good work......(but I dont think the little Bi Turbo would survive too much of Revvin Reuben.....just sayin)....
Great comparison, very interesting Need to add in cost of adblue to get comparitive cost per km. Continues to highlight the fact that these 4x4 SUVs just can't do heavy towing due to the small payload capacities when you factor in going away with the family on holidays. Eg the Everest payload is 662kg..... 10% downball mass = 270 kg, factor in 300kg for the family body mass..... you've only got 92kg left, without any accessories, luggage, etc. They just aren't suitable for this job.

In theory it should require the same amount of energy to move the mass (caravan) along the distance. Hence the fuel (energy) consumed should be about the same. The difference should be in the how hard the engine will be working and the impact on the mechanicals. Of course minor differences due to torque curves, gear ratios, tire tread, chasis, suspension and road conditions will occur.
