The Trend spec is extraordinarily well kitted out for a lower range model .... I'm impressed. The bi-turbo is plenty good enough considering it was the top engine in the 2021 Ranger / Everest.
3 months in and I am loving my Trend. Easy transition up from a Mondeo. Driving dynamics are terrific. Wife was angsty about size of vehicle and now realises how good is the higher seating position and the ride comfort on highway and off road. Really impressed in economy. Cabin noise very low and sound system easy to work. Would have liked the brilliant voice control of the Mondeo repeated in the Everest. Car Play and Siri nowhere near as easy to use. Have mates with other 4WD brands who get sad 😢 when I am looking at a 4l/100k difference to them even when not towing. Yep I am loving this vehicle.
After your detailed review, we decided to buy Endeavour (in India) in 2016, we enjoy every ride till now. It is sad that Ford left India, and we can't buy this now! Thanks for this nice review again Paul.
I took delivery of my new-gen Trend in late October and have travelled about 4500km so far, roughly 1:2 city:country. My previous vehicle was an April 2020-delivered Trend, also 2.0L Bi-turbo, in which I had travelled 82000km to all parts of WA in that 2.5 years. It did not miss a beat. Plenty of highway and outback dirt cruising, but almost no hard-core 4Wding. So far, I'm a little disappointed in the fuel consumption, showing at 9.6L/100, whereas the previous vehicle averaged about 8.6L/100km. Hopefully it will improve with time. One thing to be aware of with travel on gravel roads is that the rear mudflaps are too short to prevent stones abrading the mudflaps and underbody lip behind the mudflaps. It was also a problem on the previous model, but is significantly worse on the new model. At least the new model has a black plastic underbody cover. It's already shredded, but at least the chips have not peppered the paintwork as happened on the previous model. For a vehicle supposedly developed and tested in Australia, I find it bizarre that it was not noticed and action taken to mitigate it in the design. Ranger rear mudflaps appear to extend lower. I've written to Ford Australia about it but, of course, no reply or even acknowledgement. By my estimate, the rear mudflaps need to extend 30-40mm lower.
I noticed you mentioned the front parking sensors go off when exiting the water crossing and that it'd be nice to have a switch to turn them off. If you look in front of the gear lever there is a button there to disable them :)
Paul, the longer wheelbase of the Ranger will give it an advantage on that hill. Also, the ground looked quite damp, which clogged up the tyres. This will affect the traction.
@@CarExpertAus the fact that it was dry simply equalised the two cars. The car with 21" wheels had dry ground while the Trend had wet with 18" wheels. For off-roading, a higher profile will always be superior. Your Raptor for example has 17" wheels with an even larger profile as the tyre diameter is larger.

Looking at the wheel slippage from your camera angle, it seems that this was the issue on the hill climb. thoughts?

Drove both I recon the engine noise is actually about the same u can’t really get rid of it from a diesel engine anyway.. but tyres do make a difference tho
Paul - It’s interesting that you say the 4 cylinder is noisier, but the noise spreadsheet says otherwise. The data shows the 4 cylinder Trend is noisier on a smooth surface at 80km/h as compared to the Everest Platinum V6, but quieter in all the other measurements despite being on all terrain tyres.
The manual mentions shifting between 2H, 4A and 4H can be done at any speed. Do they really mean any speed? Most shifts on the fly I’ve seen are capped at 100km/h. Is the Everest system really “any speed”?
The my23.5 platinum will have steel underbody protection as standard. Thanks for the review. Purchased an Everest at the start of Nov. Hi Paul, could you please review the new Hyundai Palisade or do a comparison with the Everest? It would be interesting to see the luxury differences and the off road capabilities.
Everest should be light-years ahead as @mmm BASS! said, but a great idea for a comparo to understand the usability for day to day / week to week users. 4WD - real off road - is not an everyday requirement for most metro drivers
Im going from a Palisade to a new Ranger Platinum. Test drove the Everest Platinum and would say luxuries are on par with each other. The Palisade is a much bigger cabin with more space and storage. But the Palisade doesnt have as much punch as the V6. If comparing to the bi-turbo, the Palisade is a smoother and more refined 4 cylinder diesel engine. I have only ever owned Hyundai's since getting my licence and the only reason ive jumped from Hyundai to Ford is because Hyundai dont have a ute or an SUV with real towing and 4x4 capability. Sad that Hyundai still has quite a few gaps in their product range. After driving the bi-turbo and V6, I absolutely love the smoothness and sound of the V6. Reliability will be an interesting thing with the V6. Hyundai's 2.2 diesel is a bulletproof diesel motor and the 8 speed TC auto is butter smooth. Hope the Ranger lives up to the Expectations I have coming from the Hyundai Palisade (Hyundai make a bloody good car these days).
You cant compare the Everest with a Palisade! The Everest competes in the off-road SUV market. Everest is up against Toyota Fortuner/Prado, Isuzu MUX and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
A few of them don’t have teeth to hold bottles in securely and we tested a car recently (can’t remember which one it was) that didn’t fit a regular bottle in the centre console.
Yes many cars today share platforms that were designed with many different models in mind. If anything I think Ford's new platform was designed as an SUV in mind with input from VW as the new Ranger definitely doesn't handle like most other utes. A comparison between Everest and Fortrunner would be no contest in all bar possibly extreme off-road situations which buyers of these vehicles generally don't encounter.

Do you know if this will available in the USA?
@@electrikoptik don’t like the Bronco and the explorer is ok. Thanks for the info!! I appreciate it.
@@electrikoptik Why have Americans moved away from body on frame SUV? And what have they moved towards?
Everyone updates their phone for faster performance. So then why do car manufactures feel slow laggy screen refreshes are fine on a 2022 infotainment system. They're not.
Agreed!
@franklindavid1195 Did I leave you feedback? When?
I bet Paul you can’t show us an Everest or Ranger with sport mode turn on.
Hi Paul, could you please review the new Hyundai Palisade or do a comparison with the Everest? It would be interesting to see the luxury differences and the off road capabilities.
Surely Everest light-years ahead than the Palisade in the off-road department
Everest should be light-years ahead as @mmm BASS! said, but a great idea for a comparo to understand the usability for day to day / week to week users. 4WD - real off road - is not an everyday requirement for most metro drivers
Palisade review coming up!
This Everest will be the main competitor to the Toyota Prado...
Hey Paul is there any chance you could review the Hyundai i30 sedan n I've been looking at buying one
The increased tire noise is because of the AT tires.
Assuming the Trend model is the volume seller, this is Australia’s new Commodore. $65k. For a Ute. Ouch
Amazing bro ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the one.
In South Africa the the rangers direct competitor from Toyota is the Fortuner which is based on the Hilux
what were the specifications of the Everest here that you have on test. is it the 7 seat Everest Trend with Touring package and all terrain tyres?
yes
what is yoyr cam and lenses?
Looks really cool
Name of your shoes?
Is it not more of a Fortuner competitor?
Both.
When will we see XL/XLS Ranger review? Would also love to see a drag race between the PX3 Raptor and the Next Gen Raptor, just for laughs!
Early next year :-)
The ranger probably has less weight will make it easier to push up hill with less wheels spinning
Just curious, did you ever find a car that has dramas with bottles?
A few of them don’t have teeth to hold bottles in securely and we tested a car recently (can’t remember which one it was) that didn’t fit a regular bottle in the centre console.
NextGen Everest is no longer ‘Ute-based’. The chassis has been completely re-engineered.
I feel it is a direct competitor to the Toyota Fortuner. And it seems way better to me.
The 10r80 is starting to show issues in the Ranger, so now it’s a wait and see for the Everest.
Since they're the same car I'd imagine the same problems to show. Already seeing reports of rangers catching fire
New Ranger / Everest use the updated 10R60 transmission. Hopefully there has been some improvements.
@@deangrima I am struggling to find any information about the 10r60 being used in the 22 onwards Ranger/Everest. I am trying to find a Ford build sticker with the TR code T, but so far only Bronco and Explorer. Will keep looking, and it is good news if they get the updated transmission. Cheers.
@@deangrima Found something here. The new Raptor model has the 10r60 but the regular has the 10r80.
@@barron204 10R60 is fitted to the Bronco as it has a lower towing capacity, 10R80 is in the Ranger/Everest having 3500kg/7700lb approx tow capacity, along with F150, Mustang whilst the larger F-Series SuperDuty Trucks get the 10R140 transmission. All three models same family developed jointly by Ford/GM with the differences being physical size using more robust components to deal with the increasing load capability from 60 to 80 to 140 model.
Bit off subject here ... half the people I know have a dual cab of all brands of these the only ones I know of that have had a major engine problems over the last 2 to 3 years have been Ford's ... 3 that I know of and now days almost no one can repair/recondition any modern motor of any kind so this usually makes the vehicle a write-off when being out of warranty and not giving any support from the manufacturer.
I guarantee you this will be maintenance related as most people do not maintain diesel engines to last.
@ 27:45
How’s it feel again Paul?😂
Most vehicles like these do not go off-road frequently 90-95 % on asphalt
10 seconds 0-100km/hr? That's crazy slow.
It's a heavy suv
I like the Everest v6 3.0 turbo more hp and torque more pulling power
Why it seems like previous model had better outside body design than this one.
Please review Hyundai Palisade 2023.
Just finished filming it.
Waiting waiting…
