Mr. Kelley, I've been in the automotive field since 08 when I graduated from U.T.I. I worked at a few Chrysler dodge jeep dealers and took their basic courses on hybrid vehicles, much of which I have forgotten over the years working in independent shops, and hybrids just were not as common as they seem to be getting now. Today I had a 2013 Lexus rx400h get assigned to me for a no start complaint. I searched high and low on all data with no success in gaining any info or description and operation on how the system works and keeps the 12v battery charged,as I didn't just wanna throw a battery in it I wanted to verify the system was operating as designed... and I remembered your videos and this is just what I needed. I can't thank you enough for putting this info on RUclips for Free! I would love to be able to come take your classes in person, but its just to far away for me in Ga.
It's worth mentioning that AGM batteries have a security overflow drain pipe. We saw it in the video at 22:25. These batteries are entirely sealed and any generated gases are vented through that tube instead of inside the cabin. This is why AGM batteries are used in vehicles whose 12v battery is in the cabin.
Having your attention, I have to say how greatly I've enjoyed your videos since I discovered them earlier last week. I've been binging on them for a while now. And in this one, I have to say it's a sweet classroom setup. My auto mechanics classes in high school (in the 80s) were more... traditional.
John, I tried the "no ring while working on the car" in the past but the wife wouldn't buy it! Great video. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into your channel. Knowledge is addictive.
FYI the 91 Chrysler TEVan did not have a 12v battery. All 12v electronics were powered by the dc-dc converter with no battery storage. But since they only made about 50, it's unlikely anyone will work on one of these en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_TEVan
👍 just wondering highest current draw on 12 v system Toyota allows on this gen Prius. I’m trying to hook up the largest pure sign wave 12v to 120 v AC inverter. Thanks! I should probably check the manual. Hehe.
Professor Kelly: so the 12V battery, since it is less than 12.5 at the terminal, is due for replacement or would you suggest to the customer that it can wait a little?
It is hard to tell without further testing. See my new video on checking the 12V battery and charging system on a hybrid or electric vehicle for more information: ruclips.net/video/_V9PiOpaxyE/видео.html
Thank you so much for these videos. Our 1st Prius was a 2001 hand built in Japan we ordered on the internet. Since then, we've owned 2008 2013 and a 2018 Prime. Your postings have been so helpful in my understanding and appreciation of this astonishing engineering. You are a master teacher.
Hi Professor. Thank you so much for invaluable information. I own 2007 Prius and I have been my own mechanic since 2013 when inverter/converter unit went out. It took dealership 3 hours to troubleshoot it, cost me $318, California rates. Again dealership charge me $500 to replace low voltage battery, and finally $500 to replace burnout HID headlights. It was totally ripoff. Well, that was then. I finally figure out how to work on this vehicle now. Your information is helping filling the caps. Thank you once again for your time.
Completely awesome. I don't understand the thumbs down. Some people just are ungrateful b#@tches. You doing a great service to humans beings, you are sharing knowledge. Thank you sir. Much respect.
Thank you very much indeed, for making this top quality instruction available to all that are interested. Your willingness to share your expertise in a very down to earth and modest delivery is greatly appreciated. Cheers 👍
I appreciate this series, and I hope I am not wasting anybody's time with a personal comment. In the 1920s my grandfather owned an automotive electrical service business in Wichita Falls, Texas, and also manufactured his own line of automotive batteries. Watching this video, I could not help but wonder what Grandpa might have thought of today's technology and problems, such as not being able to get to a dead battery because it was locked in a trunk that can only be opened electrically. Please keep up the good work--I just bought a 2018 Camry Hybrid and I need all the help I can get in understanding it.
@@WeberAuto Hi John I have watched almost all your marvellous videos and was wondering if you could possibly help answer a question please. If the HV battery had been left standing for a long time like going away for 6 months, if the battery was then almost flat could I still start the vehicle using the jump start connector or would the HV battery need to be charged at a Toyota dealership.??? Many thanks for all your great work.👍👍👍
Thanks for the video! How do you think, the charge current of the auxiliary battery more than 4.2 amp after switching on the car? Have you measured it?
Yes the current goes much higher if necessary, but the battery temperature is monitored by the DC to DC converter and it will turn down the current if the battery starts to get too hot. External chargers do not monitor the battery temperature so the charge current must be limited to prevent overheating the battery.
Hi professor Kelly, your videos are so so good. Can't thank you enough! Keep the the content coming. I wish you many more great years working on ever growing base of electric vehicles.
Thank you for your content. Quick question. Can someone disconnect the hybrid battery? Will this prevent parasitic draw on the 210 volt battery if you don't drive it for 6 month and will it still be as strong as the last time you used when you reconnect it?
Hi love all you're videos good work. The only car to not have a traditional lead acid 12 volt battery is The Hyundai ionic hybrid the 12 volt battery is a lithium ion 12 V but it installed in the main battery pack and there's even a button on the left side of the dashboard if in the case the 12 volt system has been drain from the a phone or any other device connected to the 12 volt system the only downside is the price of replacement if it ever goes bad.
May God bless you greatly, your videos are a great blessing to those in need. Thank you very much for such important information provided, we appreciate it very much and I think you are the best on RUclips, you are a great teacher. Muchas gracias...
Sensing of batt temperature on LV battery is not for over heating safety. AGM batts are charged to different voltage depending on temperature, and i have seen Ford car killing batts with 15,5V at summer, because of dead temp sensor. Basically the colder the higher voltage, and limit is at about 15,5V at under -10 deg C. This systems are just correcting charge voltage to proper electro chemistry activity levels and are typical even in non hybrid start-stop engines, and in some cars without it too, even in flooded, classical batteries - it is beneficial in every case, 14,4V is really proper only in room temperatures
BTW, nowdays alternators can have digital charge controller build in with LIN connectivity to ecu and ecu can still be responsible for voltage management - poor ecu ground caused random charge voltage and charge message popping up to my client and it was actually hard to trace, as there is no way to check alternator by myself, and no errors were present anywhere
But batt temp sensor built in the battery is awful, it is ideal to be mounted in battery tray and i would prefer for it to not be in way of drainage - leaky battery kills it in volvos and fords :> Many brands are just using outside temp and correct for known drift, its still less awful than custom battery
That Ponzi car company would have a difficult time doing that......as they outright lie and fail on their promises. The "affordable" $35,000 Model 3 costs over $60,000 if you want real-world usage in range (150 miles+) with features and gimmicks Standard on a $20,000 Honda or Korean Car.. Read the scathing Car&Driver 40,000 long-term test on the Model S......car is a literal piece of garbage. A GM Korea "Chevy Bolt" is the electric car that is affordable and you wont have to wait months to get replacements parts as is with the Ponzi car company.....excuse me,it's called Tesla. This man and the College will surely be given one by GM soon.....for students to learn on.
Hi Proffessor John, my name is jimmy from Africa I've been known you long time in this channel and I've learned a lot from you through this channel, and I'm now in USA living in Texas doing mechanic work, and I'm trying to get more into hybrid business, once again thank you so much for your effort at this channel..in the future I would like to meet you if possible...thank you so much and you're the best instructor...
Is there any way to raise the voltage im doing a car audio build than the lithium’s would work better at 15v but my Prius only does 14.1 I saw on another video the converter under the hybrid synergy drive is what puts out the 14.1 I have the Prius c so my guess is I wouldn’t have any luck but figured I’d ask anyways
I have a 2016 RAV4 Hybrid and I'm loving these videos. I used to do all my own maintenance when I was younger, but I rarely am able to even "converse" with someone about anything to do with my vehicle and feel out of sort anymore. You're educating me at least to the point where I can tell if a "Certified Technician" at the dealership is bull shitting me or not. I'm feeling better already. Thank you for all you do!! Jim.
Hi there. I have a 3rd gen Toyota Prius and I'm having some issues for a while with ( I think ) the 12V battery in such manner that when the Power button is pressed and the hybrid system in on, the multi information display on the top of the dashboard and also the trunk commands are not working for about 5-15 min (after that time delay the display pops on and the trunk also can be opened via trunk hatch button ) depending on how cold is it outside, no matter I drove or not the car the day before. Also I have replaced the 12V battery with a Bosch 40Ah for asian models and still the issue is there. When I bought the new battery I checked the charging voltage when the hybrid system was on (the 201V high voltage battery was almost fully charged at the time the test was done and outside temp was around 5 degrees celsius ) and it showed around 14.75V. Is the charging voltage normal or is this happening because I'm using a non-Toyota 12V battery? Thanks a lot and much appreciated!
14.75V is normal. It sounds like there may be a poor connection somewhere. I would check for trouble codes to see if there is any computer related issues. I would also check your fuses. Unplug them one at a time and plug them back in to see if any feel loose. Best wishes!
I am much older than you; grew up with points and condensers. Your videos allow me an accurate, detailed, and intelligent insight into the newest technology. And, as always, a wonderful presentation. Thank you for sharing.
Professor - 2013 Prius 3 owner since new (251K miles) who does most maintenance DIY. Just finished rebuilding ICE side (head gasket & other “it’s time” parts). This series opens up a whole new understanding of the hybrid side, and possibly another 250k miles 🙂. Thank you!
I've started driving a used Prius C and am enjoying trying to understand the details. Am I right that the 12V system is essentially for accessories and computers only? The ICE is started by MG1 from the traction battery isn't it? If so a Prius with dead 12V battery probably needs a tiny boost to get started. Maybe 30 or 50A at 12V to get the various computers, control systems, coolant pump, vacuum pump and other accessories up and functioning so a computer can start the ICE and begin recharging the traction battery with MG1 and charging the 12V accessory battery with the DC/DC convertor. Could one conceivably build a little lithium "Prius booster" the size of a key fob that would plug into the 12V outlet in the cabin and provide 50A for 2 or 3 minutes until DC-DC takes over? Thanks for all the fantastic videos prof. Kelly. I never knew a transaxle tour could be so fascinating. :-)
Thanks for another awesome video. Great work!!! Please do not understand what follows as a criticism: I realized that you first plugged the meter's alligators clamps on the low voltage battery points and after that turned the multimeter´s selector to choose its function. I think that with 12 volts, and considering that you use a Fluke Multimeter (very good quality brand!!) there is no risk of damaging it but, anyway, it is always good to have the habit of first choosing the function of the multimeter and then touch the test points. But, again, dont understand my comment as a criticism. I admire your job and your teaching skills.....Thanks.
Hm, I wonder how much transferring from UTSA in San Antonio, Texas and changing majors to be taught by you would cost?? *Thinking expression* thanks again for the incredible informational videos!
Great explanation Professor. I have a question, is there a terminal good enough to take power from for let's say an 80 watt condenser fan? I live in the Middle East and in the summer the AC suffers in traffic. The car is 2019 Avalon hybrid
Perfect guides. Thank you. Problem is charging of 12v battery. I have 1st generation, 2003 as your example. Could you please advise common reason of that malfunction. 12v battery unable to charge from IMA. I have two codes: p1600 and p1570. During idle rpm voltage of small batterry is 11V, at time of acceleration growing up to 13,0 V.
great video, but i do not like the term process of elimination, it remainds me a bad experience w BMW dealer guessing on a diagnose i paid for, and most car dealers are parts changers instead of professional diagnose technicians. i am a independent technician and see how car dealers do process of elimination at customers pocket expenses.
I have 3 to 5 error codes, on my Mariner Hybrid, just because my low voltage 12v battery ran down. I want to replace that battery with a LiFePo4 or a Li titanate battery, that can handle cold temperatures.
Great video, thank you sir! How dumb is it for engineers to design a vehicle with no manual override of opening doors like the hatchback to get to the battery when it goes dead? Dumb design. Same goes for electric hood latches. Same goes for having to tow a car when a battery is dead and not allowing the trans to go into neutral. Dumb design. My subaru hatch is made this way also, but no battery is in the trunk. Still a dumb design. Reminds me of working on an inoperative electric driver door lock on a Honda that would not allow door to open even manually inside or outside. So I had to remove the driver seat via from the passenger side (had to be a contortionist) and almost break the door panel to open the door to gain electric lock access and disconnect it, just to open the door. These crazy engineers.😢
Great video but found one thing:) engine is powered on during the first start also if the hv battery is fine but just to warm up the whole hsd system and engine itself.
So, does the DC/DC converter (to 14v) care about charge current, or is it constant voltage? And, Harbor Freight has a Viking 4 Amp Fully Automatic Microprocessor Controlled Battery Charger/Maintainer, #63350 about $40 It is AGM capable. I would want to charge the Aux battery with the external charger to get it fully charged, before I turned the vehicle on, in order to limit the charging current. I also charge the Aux battery about once a month with the external smart charger to fully charge it. The 14 volt system will not do that. Good stuff, thanks for posting!
Hello, I have a Toyota Prius 2012 that has done 73,000 km. 12 v battery reads 12.7 with a multimeter, but on the car display it reads 11.7 v. How can I fix it in the car ECM?
I'm wondering. Looks like the 12V battery is more important to vehicle than anything else. Why the hell Toyota don't show the state of that 12V battery on infotainment system while is possible to see the real time charging/discharging cycles of high voltage system? Ara you kidding me Toyota?
My only error message I get are the yellow triangle, and all of the brake error lights, and "Check the Hybrid Charging System". I have a used brake master cylinder to put in. I was told that there was a fault code indicating a bad AC Compressor. So I bought another one and will get it installed tomorrow or Monday. I replaced the Inverter/Converter. And finally, I removed the bus bars and cleaned the corrosion off, adding a thin film of conductive gel. Reassembled and tested every cell to verify that it's good. It is. The 12vdc is also good. Oh, I refilled the inverter cooling system too. After all of these things I've done, I still get the same error. So, I pulled the contactor tray and tested them with a 9v battery. They are all good. I watched an Ohm meter to make sure that the contacts were conducting, and they were. The only thing back there is the startup computer. Do you think that there's something out of wack in there? I can also try bridging the contactor to start the ICE. I bled the brakes as well. Checked the oil, it was okay. I just don't know what else to check out. I also bought a code reader, but I don't think that it's good for Hybrid cars. Do you have any suggestions? I'm prepared to try to turn over the ICE with a socket and long breaker bar to see that it rotates. Change the AC Compressor, vacuum and recharge the system tomorrow. Walk over to the auto parts store and exchange the code reader for one that gives the right codes for a Hybrid. While I'm at it, why not change the plugs too... Thank you again, I wish I could take your class in person. You really know so much about these critters. I feel so blessed to be able to watch your videos on these cars. I'm amazed at how much you know. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, knowledge, and specialty with us. Peace, Grace, and Hybrid Happiness to you and family. Susan 🌺 Thank you very much for specializing in Hybrids. I would like to see you cover this subject in a lesson plan sometime soon. Oh, mine is a 2012 standard Prius. My friend calls it a Priass. I refer to him as something without the "Pri" before it Lol. Sorry for the lengthy message, but I'm at my bitter end with it.
why this HVAC and steering pump etc wants a high voltage electrical connection. If we will compare to normal diesel vehicles all this HVAC and steering are used in low voltage system. whether we can do this for EVs also like a supply from low voltage system to mentioned components.
Wow looking at all these other videos talk to try electronics on the prius, they dont compare to someone knowledgeable like you! Thanks for sharing and the effort you put on the videos! It's so detailed!
Dear doctor ,, How i can disciminate between original and copy NiMH traction battery , taking into considiration my lexues es300h 2013 milage about 90k mile , and there are 7 blocks below 14 volts. Thanks alot
Thank you for really perfect lesson professor. My Toyota Auris Hybrid 2017 has original AGM battery in trunk. Does hybrid need AGM from some reason ? I see explanation in ruclips.net/video/M53Hbh5wpRQ/видео.html but on the other hand iI saw in below comments Ithat AGMcan be replaced by acid battery.
hello. I own auris 2014. and my 12v battery keeps running dead. I don't get any error code or lights. and it suddenly happens. but when jumping start it with cables it charging again. from your knowledge what could it be? thank you.
I have a 2012 Toyota Prius 2nd gen. After I left my headlights on over night, my 12v went completely dead. And I just got it jump start but I dont have a battery charger. I have heard that if I leave the engine on for over 8-10hrs, it will charged the 12v battery completely. Is that true? If I leave the engine on over 12 hrs then what will happen to the battery? Will it harm the battery because it is over 12 hrs? And if I do end up replacing the 12v oem battery from Toyota, do I need to leave the engine on for 8-10 hrs so the battery can be fully charged? Or I need a AMG battery charger hook up for 8-10 hrs? What is the standard procedure after you replace the 12v battery? Thanks
Thank you for your information on the differences in12 volt batteries. I have a question for you, I have a 2023 Hybrid Tucson (not a Plug In)I am wanting to put the car on a trickle charge, as I am leaving the car in a garage for 6 months, but I have no battery in the engine compartment, I see a bare terminal on the inside of the fuse box, could I connect that with the positive and find a good ground, if that works do I need a special trickle charger?
When I need to remove my dead 12V AGM battery from my Toyota Axio Hybrid, do I need to remove fuses at the fuse box ? I've charged the 12V AGM battery using a normal charger which I didn't check the specs and it worked when I put it back on the car but weeks later , battery found dead again, why would you think that is ?
I looked around for a battery for my 2012 Toyota Prius C and not one fucking place can answer the simple question. What battery does a 2012 Toyota Prius C use? Simple question, simple answer, but noooo, the web is full of BS answers.
Hyundai/Kia are another Major player when it comes to Hybrid and electric cars. Why so little info on those vehicles? Do they last so well, it doesn't pay to have a shop that fixes them. There are little to no training videos like these. One can only assume when they are built so well its just not gonna get many likes or subscriptions putting them out. If anyone knows of any please give us the links!
Am I able to rebuild the "alternator" in my 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid? I have purchased a brand new correct battery and need to repair the "alternator". Thank you.
Hello sir I got a serious problem with my Toyota prius hybrid battery 2006, it doesn't charge and it seems the battery is bad. Is there a way to repair? I'm from Cameroon
Saludos desde guadalajara jalisco mexicorequiero ayuda ya que tengo un jetta 2013 hybrid y no encuentro nada de información no carga bateria de sistema hybrid y bateria auxiliar prende foco de bateria
If you add another 12v agm battery and connect an inverter to it to run 120v appliances do you need to have another DC to DC converter between the 2 AGM's?
Theoretically yes. The single DC-DC converter has a limited output and limited cooling abilities. See my video on testing the DC-DC converter ruclips.net/video/_V9PiOpaxyE/видео.html
I didn't know Prius has an AGM battery, nor that the AGM battery is for deep-cycling - very useful. Up until now I thought the AGM technology is very fragile and used for economical reasons alone thus being inferior. I had no idea these were so expensive!
@@WeberAuto i have been working on a prius with a code p0A08 is it possible to point me in right direction? 12 v charges hybrid battery in fairly good shape changed inverter pump was serious blockage flushed system l, turbulence is in reservoir, hybrid battery charges but something still triggers this code after a few minutes
Can anybody give me a detailed picture of a Prius inverter second generation I'm having a problem locating where one of the wires inside go.. the ones on the internet don't show me I'm looking for the wires on the back side of the inverter that are I believe the interlock the black one and an orange one in there like a 26 gauge wire very small and I don't know which one of the loves it goes to it has two of them that it could it equally fits both of them.
They may call it auxiliary but it's essential. It makes some sense to me still have a low voltage battery, it allows the DC to DC converter to be sized slightly above the average power consumption. If there wasn't a battery, the DC to DC converter would have to be able to power all the headlights, the rear defroster, the horn, etc at the same time.
Yes, the temperature sensor is used to fine tune the high current charging system. If the battery gets too hot, the charge rate gets turned down. Thanks for your feedback!
Mannn.... You are the perfect teacher and that's only because of a lack of words. I follow you because of this and because within my strong opinion; Your way might just be the way to teach hounest, seriouse technicians, the right way with comprehending that whih is needed in simple terms how to get this job done the right way, and it sticks. A Big... THANK YOUUUU
Hi, thanks for All your videos.... One question , on the 2007 Altima hybrid 12v battery does it comes with the temperature cable ? Or only the 2 cables? Thanks for your time and help....👌👀
I have the same Snap-On charger I use but the CTEK chargers are better. I use the CTEK Multi US 7002 for my marine Optima batteries and it will pulse charge up to 7A as required and will go into maintenance storage mode and only charge as the battery voltage dictates. I use it to maintain my bass boat cranking & trolling motor batteries and I can get almost twice the life with the CTEK. I use the Midtronics (PSC-700S KIT) Power Supply/Battery Charger Kit when I'm programming. Great training video series John!!
What is the amperage rate for charging system of the low voltage battery? Reason I ponder this is because Kiddos left the interior lights on in our 08 Highlander Hybrid, it would not start until I jump started it- wife went to work (25 minutes) and it failed to charge- headlights even worked but still failed to start until jump started again- seems much pickier than a conventional system even though its started by the high voltage side as Everything low voltage worked great, but couldn't get the "ready" light until jump started- once "ready" was on the dash it cycled the ICE correctly on the drive home. All is good now that I left my motorcycle AGM 2A charger on it overnight.
4-5 amps for no longer than 10 hours when using an external charger. No limit when the vehicle's own charging system is charging it because it monitors the temperature and adjusts the charge rate to avoid overheating the battery.
4.2 amps vs 5 amps charging current on a car battery wont make a bit of difference. it's fine if you intend to do things exactly by the book, especially when teaching, but when doing things myself on my own car, it would only serve to piss me off if the computer in a car prevented me from doing something that would work just fine but isn't strictly by the book. I put a large AGM battery in my cobalt, which it normally doesn't take that type or size. it barely fits, but it works great for me and serves my needs.
Maybe. Your Cobalt is not charged by a DC-DC converter. When it comes to hybrid and electric vehicles, stick with the manufacturer's recommended procedures or things can get very expensive. Thanks for your feedback
Hi Professor, I have a Gen 2 Prius which internally charges the 12V battery to between 13.5 - 13.8V. This seems to be normal for Gen 2 Prii. Is there anything that can be done to bring this up to a more realistic voltage to give a longer life to the 12V battery? Thank you, Eric
Which generation Priuses need that special battery? My daughter has a gen-1 and I believe it has a standard lead-acid 12V battery. We bought the car used, but it gets regular service at a Toyota dealership.
The first three generation Prius' have AGM batteries. They must be vented externally. Standard lead-acid batteries are not safe due to not being vented to the outside of the car. They area more likely to spill electrolyte inside the car in an accident as well.
This video clears a crystal clear idea that Low voltage system has no connection with engine start or stop and it's charging. Even research papers can't explain it so clearly. Thank you.
Extremely good topic as most people think they can jump start another car with their Hybrid and use any battery charger out there- big trouble!! Thank you professor for the insight into this overlooked but important subject. As with Lead Acid batteries corrosion on the POS terminals is a major problem and, with Hybrid batteries being buried in the back, will AGM batteries have the same issues?
I have not seen issues with batteries inside the vehicle. I think the more friendly environment of the interior helps keep them in good shape. Thanks for the feedback.
You're right. Not sure about the capacity of the hybrid shown here, but other small evs have a charge rate of 10-12 amps. As long as you have some extra time, (and you're not trying to start a diesel), you should still be able to get them going. Even still, if it was an emergency, think of an EV as a mobile power plant. You could still hook up the diesel and leave it on there for an hour (or hours) with no consequence. Just make sure the car is on. I'd probably disconnect before starting the diesel, though.

Having 2 Chevy Volts I really like these videos and information! thank you. Dc to dc converters just like golf carts.
Thank you! My wife and I also have a Volt, we love it.
Thank you, I am glad it was helpful. Cool story about your grandfather. I am sure he would think we have lost our minds ;)

Thank you!
Un Grande entre los Grandes. Un gran abrazo Profesor Kelly.
This was the most helpful and informative video EVER. I had trouble with my Camry Hybrid, but no more. Thanks so much!!
Wow, I did not know that. Thank you!
V10PDTDI Seeing as the Kia Niro is on the same platform as the Ioniq, I assume it also uses the same configuration?
The Hyundai Ioniq 2016 models auxiliary (12 volt) battery pack are located at the trunk. Perhaps, yours is the US model.
Pretty big downside to save a few inches of space.
May God bless you greatly, your videos are a great blessing to those in need. Thank you very much for such important information provided, we appreciate it very much and I think you are the best on RUclips, you are a great teacher. Muchas gracias...
Thanks for another great video, Professor Kelly!
Thank you!
But batt temp sensor built in the battery is awful, it is ideal to be mounted in battery tray and i would prefer for it to not be in way of drainage - leaky battery kills it in volvos and fords :>
Many brands are just using outside temp and correct for known drift, its still less awful than custom battery
I wish Tesla would donate a car to your school so you could do a class on it as well.
That would be awesome! Thanks for your feedback
This is a great idea . . . Professor Kelly is a gifted teacher with a committed viewership. Tesla would be wise to make this happen.

Jim.
Thank you very much, I am glad they are helpful to you.
Best wishes!
i love it, i hate my self for not been watching this training videos, but now im on it.
I am much older than you; grew up with points and condensers. Your videos allow me an accurate, detailed, and intelligent insight into the newest technology. And, as always, a wonderful presentation. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! I am still old enough to have worked on many vehicles with condensors and points ;) I am glad the videos are helpful.

Thank you!
Thank you! Yes, you are correct about the function of the 12V battery. Thanks for the feedback!
i tried this and the 15A fuse blew.
Thanks for another awesome video.
Great work!!!
Please do not understand what follows as a criticism:
I realized that you first plugged the meter's alligators clamps on the low voltage battery points and after that turned the multimeter´s selector to choose its function.
You are absolutely correct! I should have powered-on the meter before taking a measurement, Thanks for the feedback!

How to charge 12 v battery .
Should open cable and charge without
So, does the DC/DC converter (to 14v) care about charge current, or is it constant voltage?
And, Harbor Freight has a Viking 4 Amp Fully Automatic Microprocessor Controlled Battery Charger/Maintainer, #63350 about $40
It is AGM capable.
Thank for all the great video there is alot of good information to help diagnose electrical probleme on car.
Thank you!

Sorry for the lengthy message, but I'm at my bitter end with it.
The Chevy Volt ICE will run whenever the hood is open and power button is on. I think is for maintenance.
Yes, it is for maintenance reasons (Oil changes, diagnostics, emissions testing, etc.) Thank you for your feedback!
That would be for safety. You are less likely to put your hand on a spot that is already moving. Smart thinking GM.
why this HVAC and steering pump etc wants a high voltage electrical connection. If we will compare to normal diesel vehicles all this HVAC and steering are used in low voltage system. whether we can do this for EVs also like a supply from low voltage system to mentioned components.

Thank you for really perfect lesson professor. My Toyota Auris Hybrid 2017 has original AGM battery in trunk. Does hybrid need AGM from some reason ? I see explanation in ruclips.net/video/M53Hbh5wpRQ/видео.html but on the other hand iI saw in below comments Ithat AGMcan be replaced by acid battery.
hello.

but when jumping start it with cables it charging again.
from your knowledge what could it be?
When I tell you the key for the second generation Prius is the absolute worst, I mean it. The little black part is almost ungrabbale with fingers. 😂

Very true, thanks for your feedback!
I have a 2016 F150 2.7 and I think it has a battery temp sensor on the positive battery cable.
Yes, the temperature sensor is used to fine tune the high current charging system. If the battery gets too hot, the charge rate gets turned down. Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for all the classes you provide to us. I have learned so much about the Prius(new owner)
My car honda fit hybrid 2013 system problem
13.5-13.8 is just fine. The voltage is regulated by the battery temperature sensor and battery state of charge
Start-stop AGM batteries charge at above 100A rate.
Hi if some of these vehicle have special temparature sonsor ,so its mean i cant replace Acid battery 12 volt ?
Thanks for these videos
Can we jump start an AGM battery on a hybrid vehicle with a traditional lead acid battery ?
yes
This video clears a crystal clear idea that Low voltage system has no connection with engine start or stop and it's charging. Even research papers can't explain it so clearly. Thank you.
I am glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching
I hope will have a test on the new Electric Kona 2019.... is the battery cool like the bolt...or the leaf ?
Me too, I do not know yet
Great quality videos thank you 👍
I don't know about the other's, but I can't see the display
so you can`t use a normal charger to charge the 12V battery but can you use one under the bonnet to start car or unlock the boot/trunk?
True, but only under the hood long enough to get the engine started. Thank you for your feedback!
