  • This isn't the Bodie that most people know. Washington's Bodie is a much smaller mining town, originally located and worked in the late 1800's. The town didn't have much of a heyday, but a large amount of gold was pulled from the hills behind the town. In terms of the dollar value, there appears to have been $1.3Million pulled from the ground. This was a lot of money back in the day, but there appears to have only been about 40 miners working the hills around town at the height of production.
The little pieces of town that remain show that what was here was a productive mining camp. Walls lined with true wallpaper, buildings made of milled lumber, and a smattering of stores and commercial buildings proved that a good amount of money flowed through the small town.
A warning! What is left of the town is on private land, and should be treated with respect. At no point should you enter the buildings. The best pictures of the town are taken from the outside of them as well, due to how they are coming down over many long and snowy winters without supports. Please treat the site well if you go, and respect the land ownership boundaries!
