Bodie - A ghost town from the late 1800's

- By 1879 Bodie boasted a population of about 10,000 residents with 2,000 buildings, and became known as the "most lawless, wildest and toughest mining camp the Far West has ever known."
The town became more known for its wild living than for its big gold resources. Every other building on the mile long main street was a saloon
Killings occurred with monotonous regularity.
Two fires, one in 1892 and the other in 1932, ravaged the business district. Bodie faded into a ghost town during the 1940's.

Wonderfully done, with nice music.
I was there 2 years ago and want to go back. Thanks for helping me re-live the wonderful memories.
This is a truly poetic video! These images will stay in my dreams... Thanks for posting!
Nice song and video!
Man all those cars and furniture and old radios on nightstands looks so forlorn!
I live in Texas, and its prime Ghost Town country here. I love this stuff!
I like your video of Bodie. I've spent a lot of time there and always enjoyed my visits. I never tired of the beauty and just thinking about it's history. A marvelous place. We use to go at least once a year from 1968 on. Went there before it was open to the public as a state park. They were just keeping it intact until they decided what to do with it. There was a full time park ranger crew taking care of it back in the 60's to make sure nobody took anything.

Great job, loved the sepia tone and widescreen!
Thanks for your comment! I visited Bodie only two times but i hope to return there next summer..I love Bodie and his story. Bye LL
one of the most forboding places i have ever been to! The grey and dark clouds over the desserted town is eerily reminiscent of those old western movies! I used to live in East Africa in a desert town called Magadi, Kenya. This reminds me of that!
beuatiful town visited here on my honeymoon never forget the feeling of a time gone by my wife wouldnt go into the cemetary.... saw a foot bone sticking out of one grave a very special time in my life when love was young in fact the 1938 gmc truck i saw there inspired me to find one and restore it truly a time i will never forget
This music really captures the cold winters of Bodie and the lifelessness of the remains.
This is the best video I've seen on RUclips by far. This place is a photographers dream. I wish I could go there. I'd rather be there than take a vacation to the Bahamas. LOL (I've already been to the Bahamas)
There is an entrance road with an attendant and a good sized parking area on the perimeter of the town.
A few of the buildings have partial openings or areas to allow you to go in and observe closer & take photos. For others, you have to sign up for a special tour to be able to go inside.
I love ghost towns! This video is really great! Thank you, and for people who don't know about ghost towns...huh yes people do leave like thata leaving their stuff. That is what is amazing adn interesting to discover!
absolutely. couldnt agree more. went there in 2004 when on My Honeymoon and it was a breathtaking experience. so glad i went.
cheers

I've been here twice. There's another trip in my future somewhere. It's worth the effort for sure!!
Very cool video , enjoyed watching. Liked .
One of the most haunting places i have ever visited.....I went with my family about 13 years ago. the day we went there were ominous black thunderclouds in the distance .......very symbolic ......earily silent and just the wind opening and closing loose doors.........wonder what it must be like at night? Coober Pedy in Australia is a modern day version of this. Its silent too when you leave the town limits!
wow, this was cool. I never though i would see so many objects still left in the houses. Very intresting and a bit scary too.
Awesome, that was a journey that reached back in time...where are they now? what is time? who will be looking at our now in the future...faded,a moment traveling further into the beyond
it is located at over 8000 feet elevation in the high desert, i have ridden a snowmobile past bodie...in winter they had tunnels through the snow to go from building to building...look up "good bye god, im going to bodie" the baddest hardest town that ever was
Be a real shame if Bodie is allowed to disappear. We had a few weeks driving round Western USA and only stumbled across Bodie by accident. Tioga Pass was closed and we decided to use Sonora Pass, stopped at some roadworks and a worker asked if we were going to Bodie, at this point (and coming from England!!!) I'd never heard of it. We took the short detour and it became one of the highlights of our trip, it's a fantastic place, a little eerie at times but it makes you very nostalgic.
cool music,it fits that wild west feel
beautiful....left untouched
very nice - love Bodie -
great feel to this. thanks
Is this place stil like this now?Im surprised people havent stolen all the old stuff lying around. awesome video
Magnifique, je rêve de pouvoir visiter une ville fantôme comme celle ci....
@LubaLuft I just bought a book on Rosa Mae. A Soiled Dove who turned into an Angel of Mercy when she helped Bodie's miners through a great epidemic. No reward at the end when she was not allowed final resting next to her former in life patrons in the town cemetary.
Is it set up like a museum and supervised??? Everything seems to be in good shape and not very dusty all things considered.
Thank you. Do you have any pictures of Bodie in 60's? It will be great see them for me.
Who is Rosa Mae?
Regards
Hi
i went there 6 years ago. you can get inide some of the buildings to a point but the areas which have items are wire fenced of. I believe that sadly some items are going missing but it is said that anyone who takes something from Bodie will have terrible bad luck.

Does somebody look after it all? I can't help but wonder how those things still remain there without them being stolen or trashed? I'd love to check it out, even though it's so spooky.
Watching and listening to this video makes me feel like I'm walking in the soul of Jim Morrison.
can i just ask u a question? is there a ghost town somewhere in west virginia called silent hill?
At least one of the buildings does have an occupant (park rangers, etc.)and there is also a museum of sorts, and the cat probably belongs to them.
@ABOSS302 Came back for another visit and a bit of magic.
whats that tune from 3:36 to 3:54 called?
No, the place you're talking about is Centralia,PA , look it up, there are some cool vids of it
Where is that at? I mean what state
whats that tune from 3:36 to 3:54 called
you have to remember, getting out of a place like that means going light!!
There are two mixed songs of a band (from Arizona I think)called Calexico.
cheers
It in California.
I go there once a year, lovely place.
i wonder who is the last person leaving the country? would they left all in one go togther?
does anyone know the song?
This may be a bit cliche, but I'm surprised that no director or producer in Hollywood-Land has tried to cash in on any fortunes about western ghost towns. It may intrigue people enough to have them pay the money at the movie theater and learn about some history, for a change. I would anyways...I've already got ideas about how the movie should be, lol. Bodie, CA.
song?
Did they say that they left the buiidings as they found them or were they staged like that?
Just wondering! I love places like that.
I went there 2 years ago, and I was amazed at what I saw. I plan on working there, it's a bitchen looking place to live, or at least I would love to work there.
how come no one has robbed the place?
Im glad theyre protecting it though, a little souvenir here, a little souvenir there, and before you know it theres nothing left.
Im not sure Id trust the general public to respect the place and leave everything exactly as it was
It all looks so sad.
...yes
A town frozen in time.....its so weird.
3:24 CAT IN THE WINDOW XD
Things have been removed from the truck like the motor
ronnie cardy I am disappointed ..
How can that be a ghost town with a cat living inside a house
Things that they didn't need when they moved out
