From the wiki for "Tatos": Tatos are the result of cross-pollination between tomato and potato plants. The new consumable looks like a tomato on the outside, but the inside is brown. Commonly cultivated in the Commonwealth, its fruit is easy to grow and can keep one from starving, but their taste is described as "disgusting."
Max only thinks that the bombs dropped when he was young because he survived a bomb blast and was found/saved by a Brotherhood of Steel Knight. He probably doesn't have any education on past history.
Why Maximus lied: "Lie to survive" was sort of a soft theme for the episode. Maximus lied to Lucy in telling her his name is Knight Titus, and also to the Fiends on the bridge about not having a weapon. He does not know Lucy very well at this point, and doesn't know the Fiends at all. Both of these decisions come on the heels of Maximus telling Thaddeus the truth---the consequences of which ended with Maximus in a tin-can coffin, albeit temporarily. You can see why, in this world, telling the truth can be more deadly than a lie.
As to shady sands crater, depending on the type of nuke used, how close to the surface it could make a even bigger crater. We do know that the nukes in the fallout franchise have less radiation power as compared to real nukes, but they pack a bigger explosion punch. They are more akin to a dirty bomb than a real nuke.
Yes lucy knows more about the armor than Maximus because SHE READ THE MANUAL. "Stop staring at her arm" the fiend was looking at Lucys Pip-boy , which are rare and valuable which is probably why they drew on Lucy and Max. IMO Shady Sands was probably destroyed by a bomb underneath it or a ground burst, that would make a crater.

This show is great about dropping small clues and hints that make you wonder what's really going on.
LOL first time hearing someone say they look like they're 🦀walking and now I can't unsee it.

people always forget she has a tracker in the head so it would lead her in maximus' direction while tracking it.

I voted for Betty...
Why do guys lie? To impress you. I never would, though. Honest.
