      Ben me again Do you know where the fuse is for the steering wheel adjustment is? I have no sound that the motors are working one comment on forum said they are fused to the front seats but both seats work .
      The sun roof tool is missing also either the owner or garage have nab the head phones and DVD remote and they sell
      them on eBay . Now watching your video on your 2010 RR .

      If there isn't another fuse 20 looking at maybe relay problem but I'd unlucky if 2 went together the thing I'm lead to believe there's a ECU on the steering column which controls the motors .

    I bought one of these new in 2003 so I became the first commercial 4WD tour operator with an L322 in Australia. Many Brits travelled with me to the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley and more throughout the decade. Stunning vehicle and I've owned several L322s since. Like all Land Rovers, regular maintenance is essential so be wary if you are the fourth owner! IMO, the L322 series offer the best overall road/off-road performance of any RR to date. There is also a clever trick to the air suspension only available on the first gen. (BMW) models and not mentioned in the owner's manual: once lowered to highway cruising speed, the EAS can be permanently locked in that position for improved corner handling and roll resistance at any speed around town. A simple push of the button returns the EAS to automatic mode.

    I have the same model, the 2002 L322 (TD6). Even same colour. Ironically mine was first registered in France before being exported toLatvia which is where I own and keep it. My fuel consumption is just as you said; on an 1800km trip through Austria, Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia I(a trip I make twice a year) also get an average of 30mpg. I also have to echo your words about the auto gearbox, since mine packed up at 240,000 km (it was replaced with a reconditioned unit which has been fine for 50,000km since.) Ditto the rear wheel arch corrosion (now sorted.) On the subject of corrosion, as I drive a lot on roads which have been heavily salted during winter,I have had the car treated with the full Krown anti-rust treatment, which is redone every couple of years. It works a treat, it has neutralised any existing rust and put a stop to any further corrosion. I bought mine without service history and with 240k km on the clock so not surprisingly I've replaced a lot of parts that were on borrowed time when I bought it: the gearbox being the main item, but also the two fromt air suspension struts with air bags, the turbo, handbrake assembly, fuel pump, wiper motor, a brake pipe, and ABS modulator. As I only do about 4000 careful miles per year, the non-routine maintenance seems to have tailed off to a reasonable level now.I like this car, maybe given the choice I'd have gone for the 3.6 or 4.2 but for my purposes, cruising within the speed limit and negotiating snowy alpine roads (this car is unstoppable with proper winter tyres!) it is more than capable. My advice is to set aside spare funds for any impending maintenance issues by squeezing down the purchase price, which shouldn't be difficult with the older models. Verdict: great car, I love it! But I'd say that about any RR.I started out with one of the original 2-door classics, wish I'd kept it... they're worth a lot now.

    After owning three door, classic and P38 I am taking the plunge on an L322 4.4 with lpg as the TD6 seems to be considered under powered, I will be towing 2 tonne boat. I have seen a few TD6 on fleebay with hot start issues? Would suggest taking engine cover off to look for injector issues, black death! Check for emissions issues... blanked egr etc.. MOT fail these days. Check if car is a smoker... turbo... rings.. injector issues.. usual modern diesel stuff! The moans about the cost of Rangie ownership seems to come from buyers who rush to the Stealers... Rangies are great if you can turn a spanner... well documented fixes for most things and cheap parts are only offset by the higher fuel costs but I have never run one as main car and they are cheap to buy. As I have always said "if you can find a 4x4 which can take four armed men and dogs across a ploughed field, collect the In-laws from the Station and crack 0-60 in 9 secs at 50mpg, I will have one!" Until then its got to be a Range Rover and to hell with the fuel costs!

      I have worked my way through most 4x4s on offer... ML, Shogun, Trooper, Jeep, Disco, Explorer and just keep coming back to Range Rovers. My Wife loves them but I wouldn't stick her in a RR as a daily driver or even send her off on a long trip, unless I am on board with my tools. Happily sent her off today for a 300 mile round trip in the X-trail.. only words of advice "don't crash it, its for sale" to pay for my L322, no logic to RR ownership! She will have to use her own car when the Rangie arrives, can't be doing with "why does this work?"

      No MOT tester cares if you got EGR or not. I ran it straight piped for many years and nobody cares, pass no fails every single time. No CATs, and it is way below maximum level of particulates in exhaust. Just take care of engine. Filters, oil, quality high cetane fuel. Thats all it take. Thats what most of people do not care about.

    Good advice about chipping and gearbox this year 2020 Had my gearbox serviced by gearbox specialist and he had a customers cars gearbox rebuild cost £3000. Seen so many RR black smoking guess bad chipping these are not old cars.

    • @Bensgarage
      @Bensgarage  4 года назад

      Yes for some reason quite a few people think black smoke means more power. To me it says unburnt fuel and costing more to run than it should. Ours kicks out a bit of smoke when you give it some, but no more than any diesel. We normally drive it fairly sedate so I think it’s clearing the soot out of the exhaust. And it soon clears.

    • @cooksey187
      @cooksey187 4 года назад

      They have more than likely gutted the dpf or cats, even more power with them removed but will puff out black smoke, so if you ever see a bmw, audi or vw puff out black smoke on take off they've taken either the dpf filter, cats or both out.

    Tuning boxes don't have much effect on this vehicle. Its just too heavy for the power even with slightly more power. Yes, I could get 30mpg at best on mine and 26 to 27 was average, which I thought was good at the time too. However I've run the latest Volvo XC90 over the last couple of years and it is roomier, has nearer 250hp and 500Nm torque and goes like shit off a shovel, plus it averages 38mpg and gets a best of 42mpg, just to put things in perspective.
    You can change from low range to high [but not from high to low] on the move by the way. Flick the transmission to neutral and select high, then as soon as it changes, re-engage D. You can't do that with pickups which also mostly have electric range changes.
    Front differentials were a weak point on this age of car. Should have been sorted by now. These are hellish noisy if you try and push on, plus the tyre noise gets really bad as they wear down.

    Gearbox issues on the td6 are simply down to owners failing to change the transmission oil and filter.
    Sealed for life is total rubbish, any oil needs to be changed. Service the gearbox and you won't have a problem.

    • @Bensgarage
      @Bensgarage  2 года назад

      I think the sealed for life thing gets misunderstood. Land Rover say it's sealed for life, for the duration of the warranty. Yes, if it's got oil in, it will need changing at some point. I serviced mine, oil and new filter. It is quite common for the torque converter to start failing, which puts metal filings into the oil, which then causes gearbox problems. That's what happened to mine anyway.

    • @kevinblaylock9883
      @kevinblaylock9883 2 года назад

      @@Bensgarage Really depends on the service history before your ownership. I've had my td6 for five years, however payed reasonable money for one that had the gearbox serviced before I owned it. The chap had cherished the car for the 6 years and serviced it regularly. Difficult to find cars and owners like these . My car was fitted with a Blue Spark turning box and throttle response unit and EGR delete by the previous owner, who pulled a boat during his ownership. It drives fantastic ,very responsive and pulls very well in all gears.

    BMW could have easily sold these with 200+bhp but they pumped them all out with 170 which isn’t a lot for a big vehicle, I don’t understand why they didn’t make the gearbox stronger. The bmw 3.0 diesels of the same age could run 300hp through the boxes with no issues.

For this though you will need a CoC from Landrover, it cost me 100GBP for that in May this year. Then you will need a Quitas Fiscal from your local tax office to declare any unpaid VAT, I had the invoice and no VAT to pay, so that was free.
