Playing bass singing in chewing gum all at the same time this man is a machine kudos
YES !!! 😄
It’s a great technique. I use it when I sing. The gum keeps your throat moist.
You got that right
@@B1GK1NG Really? That’s awesome I didn’t know that. I have experienced dry throat that makes me want to constantly clear it when singing. I wondered why I’ve always seen Mark chewing gum…thought it was just a habit, didn’t know it actually served a purpose.
@@heythere135 yeah it’s awesome. Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters does the same thing. You should try it.
Mike Lindup's falsetto is unbelievable! Time stood still for him!
Mine too
Reminds me of Art Garfunkel w/ those falsetto notes
👍love it
Yeah, it's so new wave falsetto ✨✨✨✨✨
Definitely....so smoothe his voice.
How can a band sound even better than they did more than 30 years ago? Amazing...
AMAZING!!!! INDEED!
That was literally my first thought- I was watching the recording of this from Wembley in 86 so I clicked on this thinking that it would be okay and interesting to see how they sounded now and what you usually expect is some fade and a little less energy and the second they started the song I said to myself holy f****** s***
They have defo got better and better with age.
One reason and one word. Talent.
Practice.
Playing bass as good as he does is one thing, but to sing aswell just makes him extra special.
Mark king without doubt is the best Bassist ever.🎸
Yes , Yes Yes Mark King Is The Worlds Best Bass Player and Why Is He Picked Every Year For The Princess Trust House Band ? Because He's The Best
And not only that but he loves chewing gum!
Indeed. And even more special is the fact is that his basslines and vocals are completely different melodies. That takes a very high level of musical intelligence.

Absolutely 100%
@American Hero thing is, mark king was the one who created all of these bass lines. I believe there is no "absolute bassist" out there, but even your friends played these bass lines, could they create them? I find Mark King to be an awesome bass player, and really good singer 🙏🤟
God damn keyboardist sounds as awesome now as he did in the 80s, unreal.
Right!!!
Mark King has to be from another planet. He makes it look so effortless.
Excuse me while I burn all my gear and get a paper route. 🙁
I love when bands don’t lose their sound or voices, the fact they carried both through the decades is amazing
How the F you able to play a groove like that while singing... crazy skills, Mark King is from another planet.
In 1985-1986 Mark King was named the best steel bass player in the world!
No wonder I have a crush on him 🥰
He is truly amazing, isn't he?
It's a shame that nowadays they're still big, but mostly in England and not that much anywhere else
I was so glad to see them live in London in 1991 in front row
A lot of great bass players out there. Billy Sheehan, Victor Wooten, Stu Hamm, Verdine White, Bootsy Collins, John Entwistle et al. However there is ONLY ONE that can sing, chew bubblegum and shred at the same time and his name is MARK KING!!!!!!
Les Claypool doesn't get a mention?
McCartney is another.
L-O-V-E that He's chewing gum🎉while singing & playing! How Fun!!!🎶✨💕
Geddy Lee and Mark are multitasking gods
@@keeponcruisin7876les is just an ok singer. Don’t get me wrong, bass wizard. But his vocals are kinda just nasally comical none sense
They sound incredibly like the original recording from 30yrs ago, still got it,
What kind of black magic is this? How can they still sound so good?!? Ha! Love it!
Mark King one of the best bass guitar player and I love his vocals the man has a great voice.
How the hell did these guys only have two hits in the U.S.?
Best band to come from the UK in the 80s BY A MILE!!!!
Mark Lindup’s harmonies gives me chills. It’s just so perfect.
Their sound matures like a fine wine, just incredible!! My favorite L42 song as a kid and still is today!
I'll drink to that
Love Level 42!!! Drummer got mad skills!!!! 💣
That would be Pete Ray Biggin and he is, indeed, a beast! He has his own band called "PB Underground (PBUG)" and while I don't think they have done much in recent years, there are quite a few videos you can find on RUclips. This one is probably my favorite: ruclips.net/video/izR1EbgZf7M/видео.html
@@gustafsone Thanks man! 👍😁
Overplays a little for my taste… like the original track
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯
Brass section really added wonderful timbre to the song.
Exceptionally tight after all these years. Hardly surprising for a band being lead by the incomparable Mark King.
There's something about you Mark King! I was 23 when you released this song in the 80s...I fell in love with it - and you! My 23 year old self would have run off with you in a heartbeat! Well, I still would!💜
Beautiful, I Loved the 80's 🌴🤸❤️
Wow great version! I can't believe this song is 35 years old this year. I am feeling old now!
Oh, my nostalgia! I've loved this song for so long. I was only 10 years old when it was released; I heard it one day on my momma's kitchen radio, and I was hooked. We didn't have much money, certainly not enough for me to afford to buy the album, so I would wait ever so patiently by the radio day after day until I was able to record it onto a cassette tape. Thanks for the great music
TIMELESS MUSIC 🎼!!! Mark King is so underrated!💪🏽👊🏽
Mark genius! I'm 47 and from a musicians family, I saw them live back in 1984, with dad, uncle and a housefriend from my folks.. it was the most amazing sound and style I've ever heard! Can't wait to see them live again after so many years in the Netherlands! Love send to all!😎🖤🖤🖤🎼🎚🎸🎷🎹
Love to you too 😎
@@alonsomendoza9130 😎💚
The lead singer has a beautiful British accent! 😍😍😍
Mike and Mark are legendary dudes. Absolutely nailed it!
Awesome... please come to America!!!!
Great sound and the band is tight. I love hearing their songs so faithful to the original sound after all these years.
This band is like a fine wine, they sound better the older they get
They get better with every year that passes
My favourite song. ❤
Timeless, beautiful
Mr.King is a musical monster. They should have been far bigger then they were. Actual mad talent in a pop band. Something we could use today.
There is something about this....amazing!
Awesome! Love the drummer too! I e watched a few videos of this song and there’re awesome! One of my favorite songs!
Great job! They sound tight, their voices still sound amazing and Mark’s bass playing is masterful!
Amazing live performance!
Best song from the best decade.
Still enjoy this songe 35 years after..timeless bande.thx
The song that made me listen. Great tune. Stellar band.
Same for me - Vancouver, summer of 1985. Remember it like it was yesterday. Album after album it was a great discovery.
Bass and drummer really good. Damn!
They have their shit together! Very tight!
It's literally impossible to not like this incredible piece of music
My God, how can they be better now, after all this time?!? This song made me feel ecstatic and melancholic all at once back in the 80's. The song, and Level 42 still rock after all these years, but sadly the melancholy is what I feel most now--the grief for what is gone and will never come again...
Still brilliant as always. What a band.
WOW... even better than when it first came out...
Mark King on that bass......just Wow!! *LEGEND*
That was an Incredible version of this Killer song ....these guys are phenomenal musicians and it just gets better and better with them apparently.... Fantastic!
My favorite band of all time. Everything they have done is awesome
The best base player ever,! Mark king level 42 great tunes funky music 🎶
this guy is my best bass behind JPJ, SO GOOD!!
How can these guys sound even better than they did in the 80s?! Pete's skills on drums put a whole new spin on these absolute classic anthems
Just a shame Pete's kit sounds a bit poo on this particular mix, whereas it "sings" beautifully at the Lugano gig
What a band!
A lot of peeps don't know this amazing bass player, lyricist & drummer is actually left handed!!
Mark king is a beast
Great song. 17-01-2020
I’m so thankful for RUclips. I saw Level 42 a couple times back in the 80s at a bar here in Seattle. Mark is a beast, and Mike’s voice is still stellar.
MARK YOU STILL GOTS IT BRO
Absolutely STUNNING!!!!!!!!
Still sounds GOOD after all these years !
Love the 80's, there were so many super bands Amen!
Watching Level 42 videos NEVER gets old!
Never ever 👏🏽👏🏽
This was music, good music!! Where have they all gone??
Almost 40 years later and it still sounds fresh.
Love this guys!!! Mark got skinnier though, must have been from chewing the gum while singing and playing the way he plays that bass guitar.
I'm glad...he looked a bit toady in the 2009 Holland clips :-P he's looking leaner and younger here!!
THAT GUM IS COIMING BACK IN STYLE
😂😂😂😂
As artists the whole band is underrated. They are fantastic
'Those Diamond Dreams...They Can't Disguise The Truth...'
Mark's base chopping & singing is Cool.
The rap break is totally under-rated. I know they don't always do it, but was nice to see it in this version.
How do they keep getting better?!?!!
Mark King, still dreamy after all these years!
Their biggest hit in the US for a reason. Still my first love 💘
🤫 THE BEST MANS 🏆
Man, what a MAN. I LOVE this 😍
So glad Mark and Mike joined up again when they did 👍
Never get tired of listening to that song.
These guys deserved to be way bigger in the US- this and 'Lessons In Love' were about all we got on radio. They sound better here than the recordings. So hoping to catch them live some day.
I was born in 80's but I love their music
My favorite song from the 80s!!
So well performed, the playing is so tight.
Such a tight performance
I've always been more of a 60s and 70s guy but the 80s had some great songs and this is definitely one of them!!! Hey, I'm only human after all
In a league all your own 😏
One of the best 👍
Glorious!!
Great musicians! Wow!!! Cheers from Brazil!!!
One in a million 🤷♂️
Mark and Mike have aged well and the other band mates are fab as well..living gods
Masters!!! simple long live the 80s
Yeah yuh!
Merci 🌳
Trop fort vous êtes ✨
Respect
Stunning performance!!!
Mark King, outstanding bass player!!!
Mark King and John Entwistle best two bass players in rock pop
I was working at Kmart Tulsa 1988.....Level 42 was a incredible group....one of the very best!!!
I was born in the early 1990's and I heard this song as a kid and fell in love with it right away. Great great song!
Needed some bass liks tonight !
Thank you for all the years of great songs :)
Robbie❤
❤️
who are the 5 idiots that "thumbs down" this??? oh, right, people that don't know how to appreciate talent that have none....
They expected a manufactured, synchronized boy band and were confused they saw actual talent.
I saw them in Bath a few weeks ago. Musically the whole band are great. But to see one if not the best bass player in the world was brilliant
Loved this song since 1985 glad these guys r still together and sound terrific! Good show
These guys brought the funk and the rock for one Hella-FANTASTIC SHOW! Still great after all these years!
