This popped up again on my feed after a few years but couldn't help watching again and it felt SOOO good even though I have their records. Who else is watching in August 2024?
Me. I had a huge crush on Corinne back in the day. She was so underrated. Amazing talent!!!!!!!!!! Whitney Houston couldn't hold a candle to her. Corinne was a superior talent over her.
Don Moore absolutely agree, the thing that is missing today is class & talent, which is sadly missing today, Corrine had both, plus beauty, wow what a combination compared to the likes of Adele who ?
I 100% agree with you Don Moore... and she's sooo darn CUTE... just adorable... and this was LIVE... not lip sync... the band was GREAT! her voice quality was great... pitch, fabulous... I got chills... THE BRASS... wow!
I was a young dad when this came out. I remember dancing with my 1 yr. old daughter to it! she's 30 now...and she's given me my first granddaughter. :) Those were fun years.
I agree with incognitoone.. you couldn't say it better! Using his daughter is the perfect prop!!! There's nothing more fun than having your kids with you and taking them back in time!! Wish we all had a Time Machine Now!! Thanks for the Great Reviews!!
Pure serenity and class, what a voice, now we have nothing but shit to listen to. Thankfully I have a huge library of 60s 70s 80s and even 90s, after that forget it, Beiber was born.
@Fuzzy Butkus I'm sure that he meant that Corinne was confident enough in her performance ability, that she didn't need any markings on her body, to distinguish herself from other artists
Absolutely! I played this on my son’s studio’s monitors and everything just burst out, especially the bass riffs! I did live sound mixing for over 20 years and this took me back to those days of soloing out each of the musicians on the board. Heard plenty of good bass players over the years, but Mark’s playing on “Breakout” is superb!
!De vez en cuando me siento en mi sofá a escuchar a Corinne y Swing Out Sister. Y la oigo una y otra vez sin cansancio y dejo que el mundo gire. Es que su voz es tan dulce! So nice! 😊
Such great songs, especially my favorite..Forever Blue and the harmonica played by the late legend Thomas Rundle Reilly, gave to song this sweet and melancholic sound. Agree, those were the days that music was real, poetic, inspiring, divine, fun and just beautiful.
+Paul Landry the best version of this song !! lovely woman brilliant performance!! and of course with a dream back-up band like LEVEL 42 as your house band anything less than amazing is simply not possible!!
+Paul Landry Yep. Level 42 were the house band for the 1989 Princes Trust Concert at the NEC in Birmingham, along with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Swing Out Sister and Level 42 are also two of my three all time favourite musical acts(along with Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel).
oh how I love her and this song, my father played Breakout in the car every morning while taking me to school! This brings back lovely memories. Good times.💑
Class, beauty, femininity, and a wonderful voice define Corinne. Swing out Sister is a terrific band. Breakout is just “one of those songs” that remain with you. I loved in the 80s snd I love it now.
i coud'nt control myself, goosebumps and tears rolled down my cheeks, especially forever blue and the feel even how many decades have passed remains. Love Swing out sister FOREVER.
@valsteve2000 I'm 78 y/o, and I'm with you on this one. I'm guessing that I have become very melancholy, just from watching my father express his true emotions...he never Hid It, from his family. Greetings from N.Kentucky USA Y'All 🇺🇸 Stay Safe and Well. ⚘️ ❤
Just so everyone knows, the 'thumbs up' at 2:17, was a return gesture to Princess Diana, who was in the audience for this performance and was a very big Swing Out Sister fan
Love both SOS and Level 42 since childhood. What I especially appreciate is that Mark King is keeping 'low profile' and stays with his bassline to the original of both Breakout and Forever Blue and not' letting ego prevail' with some improvise basslines what is seen very often at other musicians. Very classy of MK.
The original studio version of "Breakout" is great, including all of its synth parts. However, this performance demonstrates what can happen to a pop tune when a really hot rhythm section adds their touch and groove to it. In this case, it's taken to a whole new "level".
Here's the other thing about your observation....it also explains to a degree why many artists whose musical chops call for a large ensemble of musicians backing them just can't cut it .....and they don't tour because of the numbers and financial game. It would cost tons of Euros, dollars, pesos, lira, etc. to hire all these backing band members, hire the tour manager, handle the logistical arrangements, travel itinerary, charters, ground support.....just a shame. So, you see these artists touring in acoustics only venues...with maybe one or two supporting musicians.....it changes everything, and not for the better usually. The sound quality just isn't there.....Instead, we're stuck with going to see the old geezer Rolling Stones act or pantomime or whatever it is that they do now on stage....it isn't about the music. They still sell enough tickets so they can pay for all that entourage and backup band who play their songs.
@@beanstalker3292 Ugh, what about Level 42? Are they fortunate to tour/travel with a full orchestra still at this late date, decades after their one and only charted hit? If so, good for them.
Yep, Mark King has a way of threading the needle through any arrangement with his killer grooves and chops, without ever stomping all over everything else. This song is just brilliant, but with this band and this performance, it's nothing short of legendary.
I'm a 45 yr old black American man when I was kicked out of my local high school and bused out to the northern part of town in San Diego break out was that groove..
@Thrillcekr Just because you live in Kansas City doesn't mean you know anything about jazz either. It might be big in Kansas City but I assure you that it is not popular anywhere else in the 50 states!
What a fantastic version of the song. Great concerts are those where the audience openly sings along like they are worshiping in a church. You can tell that audience is truly loving this performance. It's great to see Corrine in her youth. I am a believer!
They go through a lot of trouble to get that song out thank you so much Who ever produced these great moments captured to see forever. In 1,ooo years they will still be selling these songs timeless and a Way to make it there .recording. Thank you Tom Edison.
I knew of Swing Out Sister when the group emerged in the 80s, and admired the sophisti-pop it made. However, I never knew much more about Corinne Drewery and Andy Connell until only recently, thanks to RUclips. The music they've created is really quite excellent, and I can't understand why only the Japanese seem largely to understand and appreciate their worth. Every one of their albums should have gone gold.
A lot to like here...This is a great song, band and arrangement. The brass section parts are really incredible. And then there's Corinne...She's a good singer, beautiful, and one of the most elegant and classy lead singers of the 80's.
1986 and I was a senior in high school and I was absolutely in love with Corinne Drewery💋😘❤️🥰😍 I was on cloud 9 thinking about her and her beautiful voice!
i will never stop loving that voice, perfect for jazz/blues/alt, and the band was no slouch either. What a hook, sweet melody. Real musicians (a relief, just to hear them now in 2017).

This is just fantastic .. Everything about it .. The song .. The arrangement .. The audio and visual production .. The playing ... Mark Kings sound and style is perfect for this tune. Oh yeah and at 3:08 .. The best modulation in pop music history!

Same!!! Sounds so good with Mark King on bass!!!
Swing out Sister and Level 42.........Two class acts from the 80's.
80s in my opinion was the best. Gone are the days when beautiful music stimulate your mind.
100 percent agree, brother!!!! Was very fortunate to live through all of it. Stuff started going to crap in the mid-90s....
This is how you say goodbye to the 1980s. Great song with a full band playing everything live. No lip syncing, no back tracks, just good pop music.
I am very sad. I want those times back.
Agree
It sure looks and sounds like lip syncing to me. The band plays live, though
So; who said goodbye.

Corrie Drewery's classy, sultry, incredible voice with Mark Kings bass playing. Real voices, real music. Phenomenal...👏👊💥😉
