I've never imagined an eletric powered 2002. It's such an interesting concept and it embodies the idea of playing with the engineering side of things, which I personally love in the car community. The results vary from crazy time attack cars to dream builds coming true (your M3!), and sometimes is a group of people intalling a Ferrari engine on a Toyota, like Tuerck hahaha. Really enjoyed the video, mate! Love ur content!

I’ve been contemplating to do something like this to my bmw e46. I even saw a few videos out there with ev swaps with a gear box. Looks interesting fusure

It's a stealthy destroyer. Personally I would love to see small classic cars being turned into super powerful EVs. Due to the lithium mining concern, I don't look at ev's from a perspective of being environmentally friendly because as it stands, they're actually not. However, the sheer power/torque potential and incredible silence is a very fascinating concept to me, i love this idea

Great review, and probably a great car to drive. What bothers me is that a great classic car is sacrificed here. Wouldn’t it be better if companies like this scan an original car and then 3D print, mill or fabricate a copy out of whatever material and then put an electric drivetrain in it? In this way electrofans can have a cool looking electric car and we save these pieces of automotive history.

It would be astronomically expensive to do that. 2002s are much cheaper than that. Plus in this use case you don't even need a running one, just a rolling chassis.

I think the biggest problem there are regulations. If you do that, you are not converting but building a new car - which means it has to pass all kinds of safety rules and test - both for the people inside as well as for pedestrians. No old shell is gonna comply to any of these regulations.
Otherwise, that ofc would be the optimal solution I guess. Converting perfectly good samples of classics seems destructive on one hand, but on the other you have to look at it from the costumers perspective - who want to have a nice car in the end as well and not some shitbox that as a last resort has been converted to EV to keep it somewhat together.

Appreciate that you cover this. So many people from the car community just spread hate against EVs, which is a shame...
I have learned to really like EVs (been a hater some years ago) despite having been a huge ICE guy before and still have an old sports car and all that.
EVs are great fun and, especially talking about the mass of cars, an absolute improvement (I have an eUp as my daily and it's the best daily I've ever had. No cheap ICE car in the same class even comes close).
The thing is, as you say, EVs are gonna come. Like it or not.
We might have a certain amount of eFuels for classics, which is nice, but it's delusional to think that there is even the slightest chance of them being a better option than EVs. It's just straight up physics.
So it's on us to make that electric future a fun and exciting one. And I think it's a total underestimation of human creativity to think that isn't possible. The same happened with ICE cars too, we just weren't around when it happened. Just think about it, supercars these days literally display the engine behind a glass. Like a display stand in a museum.
That's nothing that just came naturally, it was created. Same thing with engine sounds. There is so much engineering going into them these days to make them sound a certain way.
And the same creativity can be used to make EVs exciting. It will be different, but no way less exciting I believe. Maybe you can create your own sounds for your car in the future. Similar to music production. Maybe your car can sound like a podracer, why not?
Or you take away some soundproofing material to get more of the natural noises of the motor, why not.
Having been a huge ICE car guy I can confidently say I can nerd about EV tech in exactly the same way. It's every bit as interesting if you really get into it.
Battery chemistry, pack engineering/design, charging characteristics (this has become something like the dyno sheet of the electric age), different types of motors and how they're built (synchronous and asynchronous motors, other types of new innovations and how they influence the car), inverters, 400V and 800V systems, how an EV can become more efficient (e.g. if you do certain things to the inverter), all that kinda stuff.
There is a lot to nerd about! It's just different.
So thanks again for covering this. Being open and embracing the future is the best thing we can do as car guys. Because we won't change legislation and if you really look into it and really set your personal interests in ICE cars aside, it makes sense to go electric.
(Please don't get at me with the usual "EV lifetime CO2 is worse than ICE", I've read close to every study on that and really understood how that calculation works and that claim is so incredibly unsubstantiated, it's insane. I can explain if anyone is genuinely interested)

Do you know what the 2002 weighs after the conversion? I wouldn’t convert a classic car like this unless there is an outright ban on IC cars all together, rendering it otherwise useless. For various reasons, that seems unlikely.

The ban of ICE cars in certain European towns/city centres was one of the reasons that drove Bavarian Econs to develop this car

I would like to see a video composition that prioritizes the car, the trunk, underside and not, framing the presenter. Have a discussion with your camera person: The car is what viewers want to see in the frame. Review 5:08 for and example - the trunk.
    Thanks
