    To call a “73 2002 one of my “dream project car” doesn’t even begin to come close to how obsessive I’ve been with these for the past 7-8 years. They’re so hard to find for a decent price around my area, and just like everyone with classic cars these days, they all go off of what a pristine, 100% original, crazy low original miles, museum/concourse quality one sold for at a Barrett Jackson auction 🙄 one day I hope to get my hands on one and build a slammed and swapped little weekend ripper with my dad while I still have him here with me 🤞🏼

    So funny. The whole time I’m thinking “it’s not a ‘74 because it has round tail lights and the grill is slightly different”, then Axle comes in and says it lol. So fun to see you clean up an old 2002! Great work!
    I learned to drive on a ‘74 manual 2002 so it has a special place in my heart… plus it’s so fun to kick the tail out around a right turn (obviously when there’s no one on the road ;-)

    My first project car was a 1975 2002. My high school shop teacher was an '02 junky and had an *M2" S14 swapped (E30 M3 Motor) into a 2002. It inspired me to get a 2002 and restore it. Sadly, I had to sell it towards the end of college. If there's 1 car I regret having to get rid of, it was that. The prices of them going up makes me happy but sad simultaneously. I really hope I'll be able to own one again in the future.

    I have been using pressure washer for years to clean carpets and the carpet mats for vehicles. On thing I learned over the years if you hang them up in the sun ☀️ or just hanging them up they will drip dry really well. Also a great tip if you like the “carpet lines” in your mats, while the carpets are still wet, use your stiff bristle brush to go in the opposite direction of the ways the carpet fibers lay and make your lines. As the carpets dry the lines will dry in really good and last a while longer…Just a tip that has worked for me… As always, enjoy your videos!! God Bless and stay safe🙏🙏

    Love these cars. Question: has a customer ever just given you new carpets to install during the cleanup in an effort to minimize the time, effort and cost of shampooing, scrubbing, steam cleaning etc. of the old ones? Seems like sometimes the cost may be a wash (no pun intended) with, in some cases, better results.

    • @andrewcramer7214
      @andrewcramer7214 2 года назад +2

      On normal cars (much newer than this) it probably wouldn't be a wash. In general most detailers don't remove carpeting, the RUclipsrs do because it makes a better video, and in some disaster details such as this it may make sense.
      But I would guess off the top of my head less than 1 in 1000 cars would make sense for carpet replacement over cleaning. Burn spots and bleaching and worn fabrics are more common than that I'm speaking to cleaning.
      Myself I just did a disaster mouse detail for my buddy, I turn customers with that kind of car away typically in general. And I didn't remove the seats, I did the back seat since that's almost always a pop-out type thing. But I got the carpets to 90% like new without removing the seats or carpeting. Extract, and ozone will cover 99.99% of cases.

    I had an episode idea. You have a lot of knowledge about detailing Larry. I follow your channel, but have VERY LITTLE knowledge about cars and especially cleaning. My idea is to set this knowledge aside, and wash a car like a non- professional. A bucket, a sponge, some towels, some soapy water, and a hose. Also, I use Murphys Oil Soap to clean the cars. Regardless, I don't have special soaps. Another thing is that time is tight and there is no budget for car washing. What would you do?

    • @missingremote4388
      @missingremote4388 2 года назад

      With a cheap car wax can cause rejuvenation ( like turtle wax 🐢)
      my < hood >paint fadded bad 10 years ago. Clay bar just made it worse / cloudy black =Grey = white patches
      I finally machine buffed it ( the hood) after years of hand polishing.
      1st:h hand polish with a "cheese cloth fabric" to strip off old wax coat first, use a car cleaning compound Polishing Compund; by turtle wax 🐢 then, clean with soap and water. hand dry with Terry Cloth!!!!
      2nd. Here you car wax and buff the car.... in the shade / not out in direct sunlight. Apply a wax ( light coat). Let wax dry ½ hour minimum.
      2nd attempt / extra credit...use a machine buffer and wool pad to remove all, old clearcoat or" old paint" oxidation . Start over with wax / cleaning

    A little tip - most BMW parts have a partial part number stamped on it. The obvious exceptions are very small parts such as washers and screws. If you need a replacement part, just make a note of the partial part number, which can then be cross referenced using the EPC.

    I once drove the 2002ti with the square tail lights. The gearbox had to warm up in the cold first to make it shift smooth. You could smell the gearoil…ha. That thing was fast and fun to drive.!!
    I also remember seeing the first 323i on the highways in Europe. Thanks for posting this video.!!

    Always a pleasure to watch your videos, Mr Larry. No matter how bad the mouse droppings or nests may be, I still don't stop watching the video even while having a meal.
    Love and support from a fellow creator from India!

    Funny how you mention checking the sprayer tip. Had one go flying a couple weeks ago and now I absolutely check it, lol. Luckily it didn't damage my car.

    Gotta love when Axel doesn't bring a car trailer. Nope. Just hooks it to a Nissan Hardbody pickup and drags it home. Amazing.

    I love that he hooks this up to an old Nissan and drives off. In a RUclips world full of big trucks and trailers this guy keeps it real.

    A simple honest car with tons of character, professionally cleaned and made safe by a pro. Seems like the perfect starting point for somebody looking to have a special car in their life

    LARRY!!! I’ve just bought my next dream car, and Ariel Atom. Can you recommend best protection for all the exposed chassis and how to keep all the black plastic trim looking in peak condition?

    I owned this car . I bought it from my Neihbor, for $900.00 . Back when a BMW was a joy to have . It had 365,000 on it. It smoked badly when I let off of the gas pedal . One piston leaked oil. Every 300 miles I had to add a half a quart. I also used Bahrd-all . It was really clean looking ! It was just over 20 years old when I bought it . I finally sold it...for $1200.00 ! I must admit, hitting those gears just right, was a pain in the butt . And the seats were uncomfortable . But the BMW 2002 was nice to look at....at the time ....😇👍

    I miss cars this simple. My first car was an Accord (78) and when the head developed a pinhole leak, I took the breakdown as the opportunity to freshen up the engine. New rings, new bearings throughout, used head from a newer year model (there were a couple of design fixes I noticed which probably took care of the thin water jacket walls) and new clutch. I also replaced the 3 barrel carb with a 2 barrel weber kit. ALL those vacuum tubes came out and the thing ran amazing for years. No computers, no injection. Check for spark, fuel and coolant.

    I hate the clutch is too close to the brake, so when driving my foot hits another foot between the brake and clutch. There should be some adequate space between the pedals.
