I just wish that Maya's death had been handled with the same respect that scooter's had.
I just wish they had at least paid tribute to her later in the game. Maybe a statue of her next to Roland's? Her death just felt pointless. Kinda hated everything about it

in the krieg dlc during the evil lilith fight I'm pretty sure she says "lavas rising" or something like that and it made me laugh remembering the bl2 moment.

actually there is a cut scene that really develops the character of ava, and it makes no sense why it was cut. because it transformed ava from a snotty brat to someone a little less annoying.

I love the idea of this Time Keeper bringing back various characters.
What if it first brings back Maya, but at a cost, this brings back the Twins.
This stops the others from bringing back Roland right away, afraid that this could bring back Handsome Jack.

Connecting to the weaker theory of Lilith being tied to a phoenix. Does anyone remember the legendary shield given to you by Lilith in Borderlands 2, named "Flame of the Firehawk" and in the description of the shield in red text "From the ashes she will rise" because it immediately made me start to theorize of multiple possible connections.

I think when lilith got her power back she got some of the destroyer's power because her power was with tyreen and tyreen leached the destroyer so she sucked its power and she has a lot of more power from the ravaged lilith got more than her power that's how she could make her sign on elpis

meaning.. the destroyers powers are not bound to what the siren powers are bound too...
so siren power.. no matter what it mixed with.. with remain un tainted and travel to a new host BY ITSELF.. it wont drag or take any other power except itself with it...
NOTE tryeen was 2 sirens powers. . leech and firehawk..
tryeen DIED.. and leech didnt go with the firehawk into Lilith.. the leech is now randomly on another women somewhere..

if anything.. LEECH POWER would be the power that would be most capable of taking external powers with it as it transferred..
so the leech power itself.. could makes sense it would still attempt to leech as its magically teleportation to its next host..
butt then.. hosts need to active said powers.. so that kind discredits that the leech power can even leech with out a host..
also note MAYA TROY and AVA clearly powers didnt transfer any external energies and make the next one powerful..

so its seems all siren powers are inherently stuck at a BASE LEVEL.. and any personal enhancement of a holder is not transferred with the base power itself on death..
again.. only possible exception would be tryeens absorption ability butt again.. im fairly certain .. it needs a HOST who is actively LEECHING.. cause lets be real.. who ever ends up with tyreens leech powers WILL NOT HAVE THE DESTORYERS POWERS that tryeen leeched..
The idea of the Timekeeper reverting time and bringing characters back is actually amazing to think about. Imagine every main bad guy on the same team against all the Vault Hunters in just an all out war. I'd accept that.
It’s possible. Like, the Overseer mentioned a war and needing as many Vault Hunters as possible.

@@MrZahsome Plot twist, Ava didn't get Maya's powers for free and now has Maya's soul residing in her body.... (Along with Maya's voice bossing her around in her head, leading to outbursts of her arguing with Maya while everyone around her is only hearing Ava's side of the argument.... With Ava basically relaying Maya's instructions while becoming more like a psycho as time goes on while looking for a way to free herself of Maya's ghost....)

i feel like i should mention at this point, on the Borderlands Show they had Randy Varnell, head of Gearbox Story Group come on and discuss some game stuff. at some point they bring up Lilith and he says "Lilith is gone... for a while." this to me confirms she definitely isn't dead, but might not be in the story for a good long time.

@@residentevil2928 in my head, i'm counting troy as a siren by proxy due to being conjoined to tyreen. more or less there are 7 sets of siren powers, troy and ty shared one set because of the circumstances of their birth.
@@residentevil2928 I thought Troy and Tyreen were considered to be just one Siren, seeing as how Tyreen says that Troy had to be removed from her and referred to him as a "parasite".
I feel it is likely going to be a combination of the 1st and 3rd theories.
As to how Lilith had so much power to be able to stop Elpis from opening Pandora like a walnut, that seems easy to me. Starting with Lilith, it seems likely that she had a good deal more power within her than she even realized. The reason she grows in power at first is not because she becomes more powerful, but becomes more able to use the power within her. Then with her eating eridium to boost her powers later, her overall maximum power grows a little each time. After a while, it adds up until you reach the point where she is at in BL3.
Enter Starlight DeLeon, A.K.A. Tyreen Calipso. She is already a brutally powerful siren, having already eaten the lifeforce of mist likely THOUSANDS of her followers. Yes, she periodically gives some of her power to Tool-boy... I mean her brother, but overall, each life she consumes adds up like Lilith eating her purple energy bars.
Then Tyreen steals Lilith's powers. Tyreen now has nearly doubled her power. She still continues to consume followers and others after this, further building up her max level.
Enter Maya... AND she dies. In doing so, Troy steals all her powers, including her very life force. Troy is now no longer a tool-boi, but a powerful active siren himself. At the same time, Tyreen ate a vault monster, massively boosting her own powers.
Troy becomes hugely more powerful when he starts phaseshifting Elpis, being fed ungodly amounts of eridium for power. When that proves to not be enough, he starts sucking it off his sister. (Yes, I know that does not sound right, and I now fully expect to see a dedicated Callipso Twins channel in PornHub because of it) When Troy is beaten in battle, Ava steals what was Maya's powers from Troy's unconscious form... but only Maya's. This leaves Troy with still an ass-ton of power inside if him. (Ass-ton is a real unit of measurement. A good deal bigger than a shit-load, but less than a fuck-ton.) That remaining ass-ton of power becomes Tyreen's when she consumes her brother.
At this stage, Tyreen Callipso is now pretty much a demi-god. Once she gets her paws on The Destroyer, she consumes it, she ditches the demi status, and that bitch is now a full-on god.
And still, she gets her cute ass kicked. Upon her defeat, Lilith consumes her... and ALL that power. That is how Lilith became so freakin powerful at the end.
Alas, all that power will not stop Elpis from cracking open Pandora like a walnut. That requires a key. What I call the John 15-13 Key. The Key of Sacrifice. Like the Eridians before her, she offers her very life to stop Elpis and save Pandora.

That DLC was so sad. You are literally walking through a broken man's grieving mind, who is trying to hold on to some semblence of mind and self and trying to get over the death of a person he really loved. It is all designed to look whacky, but underneath it is very sad. And the worst part is that neither his sane self nor his insane self can effectively express their grief to get over it.
First thing that came to mind with the second theory is that her losing and regaining her siren powers is a symbolic rebirth for the firehawk

I believe that she phasewalked the moon itself, like she did with Sanctuary in BL2. Not into the moon, but the moon itself. As far as the power needed to do so, think about it, Elpis IS a vault key. Lots of eridium as power. And vault keys are mysterious.
Lilith destroyed the vault key right in jacks face. So now i just got a damn theory in my head.

Nyriad talk about a seventh siren, that she do something bad to the sirens, and you say maybe the timekeeper is an inteligent creature. What if the last siren is the timekeeper?
She said the sirens were destined to be together, so, keeping one of them into a interdimensional prison sounds like something very bad, and that affects all the sirens.
Maybe its sounds crazy, but all theories are at some point.
Sirens are not all good or bad is just that some of them are Titans reborn as women
No Tyreen was the 7th siren. The person who had the leeching powers locked herself on nekrotafeio. But since Typhon Deleon had conceived a baby with his wife on nekrotafeio, it also released the seventh siren which was locked away but because Typhon conceived a child with his wife in a Vault it gave Tyreen the leeching siren powers. They say this in dialogue if you were paying attention ;)

Literally the first thing I thought after playing the story was that she'd phased the moon and that she was potentially not dead and after seeing the vault key I was certain

Which would mean, @@FrEaKyFrEaK512 and Bemused Owl, that Elpis is doomed to fall onto Pandora no matter what. As Elpis is phased out of existence as we know it time and space do not apply to Elpis as we know it as well. So once we get Lilith back Elpis will inevitably crash into Pandora permanently opening the Great Vault. This would make for an awesome intro for BL4 though.

I'll necro this but another interesting fact is, the mission you finish for that shield requires you to destroy a cult called Children of the Firehawk. When the game ends, one of the images also show Children of the Vault changed with Children of the Firehawk, reviving the whole cult you destroyed in Borderlands 2.

Wait she got the powers back from tyreen so hers was also given to her but tyreen was infused with the destroyers power so she was also given the destroyers power/eridium so she probably turned into the strongest being alive so she could do what ever she did to Elpis
Maybe its Cronus's power that Tyreen was using with the destroyers I don't see Lilith's abilities used by her, most of Tyreen's power is from Cronus (Saturn) the Titan of Time

A lot of things in this game seem like "spur of the moment" situations that were thrown together last minute.
Sorry to comment almost 2y later, but my theory on that was they actually change the ending of the game last minute. From what I remember the game was going to come out a good year earlier but it was delayed for many reasons, the one I remember was they wanted to improve flaks pet ai.
But throughout the game the story just seems to take a different direction, particularly on Eden 6 where there was a growing turbulence between Troy and Tyreen, where it looked like one would kill the other at some point. I think the delay was more to rework the story and ending last minute, and everything past and including the Troy boss fight was changed significantly from what it was intended to be.
You have the greatest borderlands lore content I’ve seen thus far, I salute you

A time keeper makes me think we could revive all the vault hunters that have died, y'know, going back in time to save them. or reverse time or whatever. Bc, yknow, according to the watcher, we're gonna need All the Vault Hunters. People like Aurelia, Maya, Roland. They could come back i hope.
That would be cool but I think it would be cooler if the resurrection is more indiscriminate in the way it would revive everyone around that point in time. e.g. if you wanted to revive Roland, you also revive Angel (sans Siren powers), Handsome Jack, Wilhelm, Nisha and various other bad guys. This would make the choice to rez characters more interesting and impactful, be a great excuse to revisit old characters and would turn the war the Watcher foretold into a real cluster-fuck of many characters, good and bad, that could make for an epic Endgame style story.
Roland was a boring character so I can do without him.

First off, yes, I know I'm waaayyy late to this discussion, but hopefully a proper answer to how Lilith stopped Elpis: since the Calypso twins did not mind draining the lives of their zealots and the rampager for power boosts and (at least in Troy's case) sucking down possible TONS of eridium, who knows just how far Tyreen pushed the power of the Firehawk out of the known extent from Lilith's view? Then when Tyreen was killed, the Firehawk might have retained the power level it had experienced, thus when transferred back, Lilith had enough power to do a GOD level phasewalk/fly.
Since I'm here anyways, with how much possible energy Lilith could have exerted to stop Elpis she could have easily blasted a momentary hole in the dimensional boundaries and stumbled into the vault at Elpis.
I'm not defending the games substandard storyline, but I just don't want what was a good character to stay dead from a rushed death.
Don't forget Aurelia as one of the significant deaths. She was a playable protagonist in TPS, and to have her flip to being a villain and getting killed in such short order in 3 felt very weird. Possibly the Timekeeper can do something about that, as well.

It just puts a firehawk where the moon is. It's not revealing some secret or anything.
So in an echo log on athenis we get an implication that the siren abilities also hold the being of a siren. Maya mutters Nyrids name in her sleep not knowing who that is. So perhaps Lilith's being, Mayas being , and angels being all carry to there new host. This explains why Angel choose Tannis so she could be with her friends in some form.
But didn't maya's power transfer to Ava though? It's a good point but Ava blocks that logic.
She choose Ava because she saw something in her that she liked, and because she was essentially choosing who she wanted her next vestal, she would know that persons life and likely having a choice is better than a bandit getting the power.

Almost as baffling as those who think that Elpis is still physically there in Pandora's orbit. The only thing I'm actually wondering about is if we're going to have to wait for BL4 to find Lilith and the moon wherever they ended up, or if it'll be DLC.

Technically everyone you mentioned that is dead is a vault hunter because they all had something to do with the vaults opening and if they are revived somehow it could relate to the watchers message “you’ll need as many vault hunters as you can get” maybe the time keeper could revive them all and then the raiders could convince them to join them in the war. idk just a theory

Considering Liliths COV alias being a synonym of Phoenix IE: "Firehawk" It wouldn't be impossible that maybe Lilith didn't actually die and the phoenix symbol on the elpis is actually Lilith phaseshifting the entire moon. And lore wise the moons core is eridium allowing Lilith a near finite amount of siren power. Essentially phaseshifting her metabolism and the moon Elpis.
I'm all for Time loop to fight Calypsos with Siren Lilith and Maya in a paradox AU. so pissed my girls are gone (or straight up sbsent in Gaige's case)

I'd just like to point out the possibility that while lilith failed with henry and teleporting him away because of the lack of eridium/energy.
Its entirely possible, when we killed tyreen and lilith got her powers back, she also absorbed all the energy tyreen had stored within her from the rampant and her weird fushion with the destroyer.
Thus why/how she had the energy to transport an entire moon.
During this video when he was talking about the “time keeper” and Lilith going into another dimension to make herself unsee able what if that dimension would be able to make her go back in time. because when she ends up into the other dimension and comes back she’s in an entire new area/ closer to her target then before like as if she sped up time.

knowing how personal lilith takes roland’s death (obviously), she might choose to bring him back. making her a bit more of a bad guy who’s controlled by their emotions.

Ive been playing for 10 years now and there is so many hints ive noticed that point towards a paradox within BL3.
My theory is that we are stuck in time, ever since claptrap broke the ship at the start of BL3.
Hammerlocks clock is always at 10.35 n doesnt move and so are the clocks on eden. Also the planets have there own time zones and the astroid has dbl the speed of time when you step foot on the astroid. This all points towards time.
Tannis notes point towards the whole thing being currupted and to be started again but maybe there is a specific path through the game. A secret path of missions Done in a sequence.
This may allow us to return to the correct time and space we came from. There are alot of hints by characters and sanctuary A.I does seem like they are prisoners on the ship not happy or always wanting to get out. Some just follow you and stare.
The biggest hints are the galaxy map, if you zoom all the way out and just watch, it appears to be a maze or puzzel with a certain set of hidden steps. Planets or moons that are barely visible like they are undiscovered.
The symbols that the galaxy map creates looks like a clock, or puzzle to solve and it also match the symbols and images on the tv screens that can be found saying please stand by or something with more numbers written at four points like 525 and 325 90 i cant remember exactly but they are there.
I know its the screen from fallout but the dead face at the top of the screen caught my eye, but mainly the different speeds of time on the asteroid vs planets.
That the whole thing all seems to be stuck in time, maybe we can change time, maybe we are actually the time keepers. Hence the reset missions options, the fact tannis notes on the vaults points too or kinda says, its all been useless infomation and needs to be restarted from the start again.
The game could be waiting for us to figure out another timeline that maybe could be taken. I dont know if BL3 would go that deep tho, but it does explain why players info get data crossed and messed up when joining each other when they are different times of their own story modes.
The devs clearly say that we cant skip cutscenes for a reason as in when the scene is played it alter the world so what if there is away around a scene something that can be skipped, is there another way to get to eden, does maya need to die. We have the melee device already so do we really need to do that part of the story or can we do it at a different time and go against the way the story tells us where to go.
Probably way over thiking it all here , but i have my suspicions mixed with a little bit of hope. Mayas death to me was like dr stange in the Avengers end games. She says be ready as in we get one chance at this, this is the only way we win.
After exploring all the data and notes it kinda doesnt feel right from the moment claptrap messed up our ships warp drive and probs caused a mini black hole, now we are circulating in it trapped in a paradox that maybe needs something different to happen. Something to shift the flow of time into another direction and does it have to be that oneway story.
Go look at the galaxy map zoom out to see all planets and just watch it for a min. Then look in sanctuary at the tvs with the under attack msg, looks so similar and then see what parts of or if the main story can be by passed by triggering events another way or not doing what the game says to do then and there. Maybe wait or let time pass or try to speed run the game. The ship has hints into where is safe to go n what paths are wrong.
Cameras, secret interactions, balex being suspicious as hell, green gases from vents at moxxis bar aswell as caution signs to not go neat the area or stay away for now. Maybe we dont need to see moxxi so soon are these actually small hints or clues or just quickly made up ideas that look heaps fishy but are just literally not thought out or looked at this deeply.
Hidden shortcuts through time and space are always possible. Its whether they have gone to that kind of level with this or whether they would do and not tell us. This is just Theories, speculations, no real evidence atm and only what it felt like to me as ive played. This is probs all just a load of druken nonsense though haha, and the only the confused ramblings of a mad man. Peace n enjoy the discoveries sorry for all the spelling mistakes.

How would you explain Moze's watch into your theory?. The Gunner's watch was almost always visible with 2 handed weapons, and always running.
Unless something will change in the writing department in the near future:
1. Lilith isn't dead, but neither alive. She's different now. Maya's fate, at this point- is still uncertain.
2.we (as the players) already met the seventh, but due to some of the characters...special quirks- she herself has not yet realized what she actually is.
3. Some of the old characters, that are though to be dead- are actually alive, and you will meet them again.
4. Mordecai- will be the next one (out of the original vault hunters), to die, not as a hero, but he will meet his end in misery.
5.Gaige is alive. She's doing her business behind the curtains for the time being, due to some jazz that occurred lately.

You got me thinking from 12:50 onwards. Hopefully the devs do take some of those ideas into fruition.
Is it possible the time keeper is that weird guardian thing that followed zarpedon? It made sure to protect her and even played a part in the vault hunters story, ensuring that “a storm is coming”.
i think in either a b3 dlc or maybe in bl4 if it would come we would meet the timekeeper 'fix' the timeline but create a huge time rift pulling in jack, the calipso's and any other enemy that any vaulthunter had ever faced, but with every vaulthunter coming back and when it all is fixed you see the intro of either the first borderlands or the intro of the pre sequel or even an intro for typhon de leon showing the start of the timeline being fixed.
When I first heard of the supposed death of Lilith, my first thought was simply ‘there is no way they killed her off, just wait until the DLC.’ I still firmly believe that Lilith will pop back into the game, be it DLC or the next game. It would be a little too strange if they truly intended to kill her off like they did supposedly.
The first and third theories mentioned in this video are the most possible ones IMO.
As far as I was aware, Lilith’s death was never outright stated, only assumed to have happened, and to my knowledge, nobody seems to have gone up to Elpis to find evidence of her death.
On Epi. 2 of The Borderlands Show, the hosts asked story director Randy Varnell is she was dead, and he said "she's....gone for a while." He basically confirmed she's not dead, and that they're still working out exactly where she went, themselves.
Mekner even Tannis said it COULD kill her. Not without a doubt kill her.
My impression is that when Lilith get her powers back from Tyreen, she may have absorbed some residual power she had from the destroyer, and used that to "teleport" the moon somewhere else leaving some sort or imprint in its wake. Meaning Lilith is likely still alive wherever she moved Elpis. (Which it will make absolutely no sense why it's visible from the Atlas hq on Promethea)
The dialogue at the end of the game suggested that Elpis needed to be moved further away from the Pandora to stop Pandora from opening, so using her powers to stop it moving closer I don't think really make sense. And looking at the "imprint" you can kind of see it's transparent and you can't see Elpis at all. This is also supported by the post credit screen of Ava looking out the window of sanctuary and only seeing the Firehawk symbol not the ring around it too or Elpis behind it for that matter.
And the theories about her being similar to a Phoenix doesn't make too much sense either because it's cannon that Maya has some of those abilities too with her "blight Phoenix" skills and we can see that obviously want true for her.
Lilith was so powerful because she also took tyreens powers while getting her powers back
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the cube in the middle of Desolations Edge called, "The Conqueror." You can shoot every side with an element and it drops some weapons and flies off into space. When you reload the game, it returns, but it's destroyed, with a little white cube in the middle. Can't seem to find anyone else talking about this, but it clearly seems important to something lore-wise.
I think it's just an Easter Egg as that cube isn't the only one on Nekrotefayo. Some can be seem from various vistas on the planet.
You can get it to reload and open it again by playing through a proving grounds not slaughterstar or slaughter shaft but one of the proving grounds where you talk to the guardian to start . That's the way it happened for me in my game anyway.

dlc where we convince the timekeeper to bring back lilith, and she leads us into battle as we face the consequences of the return of the firehawk. Also a great way to bring back one of the best antagonists ever created, Handsome Jack
Jack will keep destroying the world if he's brought back, he set everything in motion and now he's kinda useless to the greater story. He can have cameos and old propaganda stuff showing up but he's already been killed off twice (or three times if you include tiny Tina's assault on dragons keep)
But they brought back Timothy, he wasn't quite as bombastic as Jack but he was funny too.
Actually, @@laurene988, if Jack's character is done correctly he will quickly learn that he was bested years ago on Pandora at the zenith of his corporate power of Hyperion. So while he could retain a certain all consuming grudge against Lilith and Moxxie for betraying him so incredibly harshly and forcibly transforming him into Handsome Jack he would simply move on. There are other planets to colonize and turn into ultra luxurious colonies. After all, John's original intent was to eradicate bandits from anywhere and everywhere, especially on Pandora where he was born and raised. If Handsome Jack is brought back perhaps he successfully murders Moxxie and Lilith for betraying him. If he does murder those two then he could very well stop his murder/kill/death spree across Pandora and simply move on with his life. The Handsome Jackpot DLC would indicate that Handsome Jack was slowly moving on from Pandora and was simply being the jackass he always was.

If he was brought back we already know from tales that he'd try to get back on top of hyperion and maybe he'd seek out another vault, but remember he isn't just mad at lilith for scaring him, she helped kill his daughter, and even in tales we know he's devastated by losing her. So I don't think he'd give up on getting revenge. Again in tales it showed that although he didn't want to die, he'd do just about anything to get revenge on the people who betrayed him. (like killing the guy who was keeping him alive or even in borderlands 2 being willing to fight the vault hunter even if he would likely die in the process)
If he did somehow decide to move on I doubt we'd ever come across him again. He's probably lost his chance at a vault since his daughter isn't there to lead him to one, or charge the key. He'd probably have to marry a siren or imprison one and if he couldn't even control his daughter I don't think he'd be able to manipulate and control a siren that doesn't have any reason to avoid killing him herself. (also we know most of the six or seven sirens in the universe and I don't think I can see him marrying any of them)
Although he is a genius, that's for sure. In both business and mechanics/coding he's unsurpassed except by his own daughter who also had the siren ability for computers plus her dad's genius so... Not to be trifled with.
So we'd probably never see him again if he came back.

We've never seen it and probably won't but it's not somewhere mentioned in game. He probably just brought his psychotic grandmother out to the borderlands with its legal blindspot to have her killed for everything he had to go through as a kid
