Nice one. I do wonder where the media gets these "worst in UK" lists from! I've lived in nearby Maidstone since 2001, so Dover is an easy visit for me. I've visited all the coastline between Dungeness and Dartford, and Dover Seafront is my favorite now. Never too packed out, and nice to see the Channel swimmers setting off here too. And the little kiosk on the front, used to be called Pebbles, is a lovely little refreshment stop. Western Docks has been redeveloped since the Seacats and, before them, the Hovercraft packed up. Very nice it is too. Dont forget, its the Gateway to Europe, and was, until the P&O debacle, a major local employer. The town centre has had some revamp, and that Wetherspoons, The Eight Bells, is not a bad one. Yes. A thumbs up to Dover for a visit, 👍✔💯🇬🇧😉
@@EdBrinton A $64,000 question! You'll just have to visit the County Town one day and see for yourself. For people that live and/or work in these so call crap towns, we do not see it how these reporters and vloggers report it. I've lived in Maidstone since 2001, as I came here for a job, which I'm still doing today. If it was as grim as nearby central Chatham, where I lived for 18 months before Maidstone, I'd have moved away, but it suits me fine. Believe you me, and I'm qualified to speak, and I'll be shot down for it no doubt, the North/South divide in the UK is very real. For many people returning to there hometowns or city's in the North, they're now unrecognisable compared to 20-25+ years ago. But its our corrupt governments own doing, with so many people having had to move away for work, this leaves deserted towns/cities and many vacant properties and run down areas. But slowly but surely, with the opening of the EU borders in 2003, and the migrant crisis because of our involvement in the Middle East, and then it was Brexit and then Covid. Its all been brewing up for many years, to a point where they've all been 're-populated'. Yes, it's good and bad, and there's no going back now with what's happened to our country. Its all happened in one generation, right under our noses, and its way too late do anything about it. I think you'll be making videos full time on the demise of our UK towns and cities lol! Maybe you should change your format and go and find the best towns and cities in the UK! Does such a thing exist anymore? Anyway, do come to visit Maidstone. There are two Wetherspoons here as well, which is the only place you'll get half decent fish & chips in the town, as the no.1 chippie here shut down last year! And if you visit on a day that I'm about, I'll buy you a drink in my favorite coffee shop! 👍🇬🇧✔💯😉

I often go to 'Spoons' and have never, ever, witnessed any problems. Shame you didn't really speak to anyone who lives here. Illegal immigrants are bought to shore on a secure area of the port and are then housed in other parts of the country. Probably next door to you. Come back when the sun is shining when you don't feel so stressed by nothing at all. I so wish that your trip had been planned so that you could meet up with people who know and love the town.

For supposedly "the garden of England" - it's getting built upon with major housing projects for new builds. There's little job opportunities for young people - hence why they tend to move away. The article is linked in the description but yeah I agree there's far far worse ..... Like Luton ahaha
Mention the word Dover and I think of the ferry to Calais mate. I have used it every year since 1970. Dover is not a city, it is a small port town.
@@pabs7373 I'd be interested to see how you've seen Dover evolve over the years? The same? Better? Worse? Thanks for the comment btw mate

Thank you for this clip. I do not know why i feel sad after watching it. I don't want to discourage young Brits but it seems to me current generation has no sense of history of the local, of the country or else leaders and collectives would have been produced to perk up such beautiful location. So many things can be done here. Where have all the great Brits gone?
@@Marrea-q1m Brain drain. Many British people with degrees have left the country due to lower taxes and higher incomes elsewhere. Think USA and UAE. Yeah it was saddening going there too. Young people feel like they've been left out and cast aside by the liberal elite
They teach young people LGBT history rather than real history

last time anyone invaded this island were the romans, with possibly elephants, today, it's a 10 cm rubber boat, with men wearing life vests, UK will never return from this.
@@Paul-km9ox exactly this
Think you missed the Norman conquests and the invasion of Harold Hardrada mate but I get the point
True yeah
When they arrive and are processed they are sent to poor midlands towns so its not as obvious how many are flooding in

Notorious City!!!! seriously!!! I'm originally a Londoner and moved to Dover 20 years ago. I have never, in all that time felt threatened by anyone but as you are someone afraid of tripping on a missing grating and was only here for a very short time I shall forgive you for having to 'find something nice about Dover'. I often go to 'Spoons' and have never, ever, witnessed any problems. Shame you didn't really speak to anyone who lives here. I doubt that there is a single town in the UK that doesn't have empty shops. If people were staring at you it's because you were walking along talking to yourself whilst filming. Illegal immigrants are bought to shore on a secure area of the port and are then housed in other parts of the country. Probably next door to you. Come back when the sun is shining when you don't feel so stressed by nothing at all. I so wish that your trip had been planned so that you could meet up with people who know and love the town.
I'm glad you've had a positive experience in Dover. So many amazing historical sights which I enjoyed. Id love to come back with a local to show me the best bits :)

It seems peaceful in Dover. Not a single boat illegally crossing

There's probably some of the quiet villages like Chartham and Minster-in-Thanet - but the rest of is pretty rundown. For supposedly "the garden of England" - it's getting built upon with major housing projects for new builds. There's little job opportunities for young people - hence why they tend to move away. It's pretty grim in certain places : Medway towns, Isle of Sheppey, Ramsgate, Margate and Dover.
