My mother went to Southend in the 50s and I was on the outskirts twice in the 80s for work. That’s it. Great video though.

Unfortunately Southampton was heavily bombed in ww2 and so a lot of old buildings went hence the mismatch

I’ve worked in Southampton. Doing some security work, it’s not as bad as say walsaw. Birmingham, Bristol. Like I would fart in the middle of crews of hood rats, university students, then even some corporate bozos. Nothing said nothing done. Even got a few phone numbers when doing that from the women in each group. Think I have 4 kids of mine down there. It’s just a little weird geographically speaking.

So he visits a few back street alleys, a busy main road and a town centre thats run down like in any other town in the country and judges the whole place based on this. Didn’t go to Alverstoke village, Haslar Marina, Brockhurst Gate (thriving shopping hub), Stanley Park, I could go on. Very biased!

I did some filming for Black Bird Leys Community Centre advertising their community larder. Sadly Covid forced the project to close as the lockdown and restrictions forced the model of how they provided food to change. I had to do a double take when I saw the community centre had been torn down. Those people in the pub next door were very kind in letting me park there while I filmed.

Speculation too plays a role in rise of property prices. Citizens are to blame for this then followed by the government.

Chatham is a dump. I have lived in medway all my life. I have never lived in Chatham/Gillingham and i never will. Chatham as far as i remember has always been terrible. It is getting worse and worse as the years go past. If you go further out like Rainham, Cuxton, Isle of grain or even Cliffe. It is absolutely lovely. So not all of Medway is bad.

Southend's Pier has the longest Pier in the world. 3 1/3 miles.

Hadleigh Castle is in, wait for it, Hadleigh! Nothing to do with Southend. One for the best things to do there is walk along the path from the park you were in; across Two Tree Island follow the River to Old Leigh, stop for Cockles and a Pint tat the Crooked Billet hen carry on past the boatyards to Chalkwell, head up the top to Cliffs Pavilion and carry on to Southend along the top of the Cliff Gardens. You wouldn't want to do that in January with the flu though.

Maidstone’s ok nothing special…it’s a lot better than Chatham that’s for sure!!

Just watched your video don't be too harsh. I have lived in twydall 61 years I always feel safe. Medway does look like shit though. Anti aircraft guns near rivers. They didn't have gps so bombers flew using river as navigation. So they were there to give them the good news

The decline in shops is unfortunately a common sight where ever you look these days. Southampton has 2 big university's so a lot of disused building are either being revamped or repurposed as accommodation. So the city is getting a new lease of life. Areas such as Town Quay and Ocean Village are nice along with Oxford Street. Just don't go to Millbrook or Shirley...

Can you really call yourself English? If you don’t know why Gravesend is called Gravesend? It’s history you shouldn’t even have had to visit this place to know why. What do you think of the name Blackheath?

This has to be the worst review of Southend ever! You seek what you find. London is a cess pool by example, we have a few awful council run tower blocks as you enter Southend. Investment into the seafront has been rife for the past 15yrs. Everyone seems to bypass Thorpe Bay, Southchurch but I hope it remains the best kept secret and keeps away the scum of London who ruin our city every year. Southend offers what you look for. Wetherspoon pubs? Nah. Small bijoux back street pubs, Live bands, the theatres, small mindedness springs to mind. Yes the town has suffered, due to the large shopping chains not entering Southend.

Fair comment on most of the video, obviously better and worse places in the town It's pronounced Lee not Lay, and you were actually in Westcliff at that point followed by Chalkwell before you get to Leigh. Lived here 40 years and never been to Hadleigh castle, thought the Pier or Adventure Island would be top of the visitor list?

Yer no way Dover is worse who exactly voted probably estate agents who swear it's on the up. Chatham is a hell hole actually there are loads in Kent & Canterbury wouldn't be high, it has same problems as any city.

I was born in All Saints, Magpie Hall Road in 1995. Lived in Walderslade from 96-97 and Connaught Road from 97-17, and now live in Rochester from 2017 onwards. You could say I was born and bred here. I'd recommend interviewing Billy the Quid for that unique "Chatham Experience" next time.
