Like anything else in life, professionals buy professional gear. If you're complaining about the price, maybe you're not in the same league as the professional that is being targeted for. I buy the best equipment for my job, if I'm hiring someone I expect the same from them
Canon C100MII is the camera I'm saving up to buy. Ease of use it the number one thing with me. I need good quality 1080p and to be able to get focus as quick as possible. Filming in daylight with quick ND change also important and quick good audio options.
The grade is super easy and quick, massive time saver. This is a great camera. Does everything all around, just deliberately neutered on slow motion, to help c700 sales.
The C300 mk ii is an AWESOME CAMERA!!! For vlogging?--well, it's possible, and it will eliminate the need for those weight lifting segments. The real issue of the C300 mk ii is stabilization. I would think the 80D with the APS-C stabilized lenses--very excellent AF, SUPER quiet in focus operations, and...wait for it...LIGHT! And the dual pixel AF is the best there is.
those over saturated reds though and bragging about AF while being out of focus isn't very serious Dynamic range however looks gorgeous But we've always loved Kai more for his commenting rather than his footage
two things - one focus went out just as you were selling dual pixel focus and two i hope you immediately stopped the car of course knowing you had left the c300 in the mud AND the 6500 on the roof of your car 😉☕️🔥🎥
Kai.. you are awesome BUT you do know you can remove that battery plate from the C300 if you're using the larger batteries right?! You don't need to have it hanging out ready to get ripped off. Cheers.
This camera is the reason why Canon's losing customers in droves. Not because this camera is bad, but because they're purposely leaving out/handicapping features from their cropped and full frame pro DSLRs to sell more of those C300s. Shame.
Tell you what - that's the best 'what to use' video I've seen. I am not a vlogger (I agree that'd be overkill) but I wanted some info on a decent quality camera that can be used for something more serious than a GoPro video I got all the info I needed from this vid - with humour and discreet tech details too. so: thanks!
Hahahahaha...”Unless you prefer brown rice, or quinoa, Hipster!” I love all of your videos Kai, thank you for putting your time and energy into them! Side note, I’ve been looking at the Canon C200 or C300 mark ii for our channels videos, which are largely in part Vlogging and talking head style. I currently shoot with a Sony A7iii after selling my GH4...but I was going to go with a GH5 since I miss the Panasonic user platform, (I realize that’s a lot of information) but do you prefer the C300 over the GH5?
Not Kai here but I can certainly give you some insight. Honestly, the GH5 & C300 are two completely different cameras at different price points. If you are wanting an upgrade in every single department than the C300II is an amazing camera. If you can handle 1GB/s RAW the C200 is also amazing for the price. The GH5 is much cheaper but is a completely different style of camera. If you are focusing on VLOG/Talking headpieces is AF important to you? If so then the GH5 may not be the camera for you. If you are wanting to really step up and have the budget, the C series from Canon would be your best bet!
CVP Thank you for the reply, that’s great information! If you have time to preview some of the videos on our channel, you’ll see my style of shooting. After fiddling with manual focus lenses for quite some time with my GH4 and G7, I made the switch to the Sony A7iii mainly for it’s auto focus benefits which have been amazing! But I just miss the simplicity and the functionality of the Panasonic user interface. I’m not a full-time filmmaker, I’m a full-time business owner with three companies that I shoot video for. So it is a big part of what I do, plus I do want to get into more in-depth film making. And that is where the C200/300 come in for me.
All the slow motion in this video is shot incorrectly using the wrong shutter angle. The motion blur is much better if your shutter is at 180 degrees. It will mimic what a film camera does.
Ss rdd If you want small 4k cameras with great autofocus, try the now 2+ yr old Samsung NX500 (super tiny) and NX1. Canon is just an ultra conservative, long in the tooth company. At least the footy looks great and it internally records in the formats pros need. So you have a bit of space by not needing external recorders. But I'm not going to disagree at how slowly Canon evolves!
If you are looking for the 4K 60fps, it is not a camera for this job. FS7 II does not have Dual Pixel focus if you try to do a one man filming. I own the C300MkII and what you pay is the focus and color science of the video, not slow motion at 4K.
Waynes World Studio Yeah. I've rented the Canon and it's a dope camera for quick work, solo or not. Do you by chance own one? Now that the price is lower, I've been thinking of buying one to capture doc footage in my travels. But files in 4K are huge. Enormous compared to the H.265 Samsung NX files. I use 2TB Samsung T3 USB SSD drives to make work fast. Even though those are large, I still have trouble getting my head around how to keep & sort potentially hundreds of hours of these enormous files. Any tips?
I actually want the Canon C300 Mark 2 and I was just wondering if it had two SD card slots, wifi and Bluetooth so I can transfer to my phone and computer if I am on the go.
The one problem I see... the scenes inside the airport didn't look too hot! Almost looking like an iPhone video. Of course, the setup green scenes look great.
Did they fix the coax cables to the monitor on this one, the original c300 ones always broke and were physically connected to it so you had to send the lot back to get repaired.
You know what else has 4K? My smartphone. Though the color science is fantastic and the built-in ND filters is very nice, for the price, it should have way more features and at least 5K & HFR options. I've actually used this camera a lot, and it's mostly good for documentary-style shoots, run-and-gun, and interviews. Though I did shoot a short film on it, and it looked great. But if I'm going to spend $20K+ on a camera, it would probably be a RED. Just for the fact that it's 8K and more "future-proof" than this.
Would you buy a red for u-tube? Love your videos keep up the good work.I am getting ready to buy a camera for network work would you suggets a red or the canon C-300 mark 11?
I use a C300 MkII. Love it, it's everything he says it is and more. Unless you want huge slo-mo effects, get one. Don't use C-Log 2 profile though. Use the C-Log 3. If you want to get a RED, and this is not based on using one, just heresay: get two so you have a spare when one or the other RED fails. The C300 is a solid performer.
how do you setup auto focus???? i went into menu, focus, and non of the choices are lit up. I have a EF lens and set AF mode on the lens itself but still nothing...... please help!
It's pretty specific on which lens it needs for AF. If your lens complies with the spec, then check the operation manual. It's very in-depth, and every AF mode explanation contains a section that starts something like ""AF will not work when..." or "AF is not available when..." I keep a copy of the manual on my smartphone.
I can't be the only thinking that the graded C-LOG off this camera looks terrible. Right? I mean the clips at 5:33 have terrible colors. These colors look like my Pansonic Gh4's in Cinelike-D
You can find the grip here - www.amazon.co.uk/Andoer-Platform-Pistol-Camera-Smartphone/dp/B00REG9WDE We don't recommend using it with a C300II though!!!

Yes to any external recorder it can record in Canon Raw format or straight Cinema DNG on some recorders. However most, if not all, C300II users shoot in the internal XFAVC non-raw because it's simply pretty damn raw-like. 10/12bit, 4:2:2, 4K, no compression artefacts, all of the DR contained, i.e., all the reasons to shoot RAW are satisfied. Canon Raw doesn't add any more resolution, colour depth or dynamic range, but merely removes any compression artefacta in the form of blocking that might theoritically appear in XFAVC/H.264 But they don't on this specific camera due the high almost-non-compressed bit-rates.
is it just me or does that thing look pretty massive especially with all the add-ons but Kai, who is a tiny asian man, seem to be holding it like its nothing ?
"Well we're Asian our hobbies are: expensive gadgets and overdoing stuff"
Kai Man Wong 2017
Wonginism He's with the Red & Leica SL vlogger Jon Olsson on doing that. Team Overkill, grrr! :)
😂
This quote too, made me want to comment as well!
Way-sist!
Yet he uses a 50 dollar lens on the c300 hahaha
Like anything else in life, professionals buy professional gear. If you're complaining about the price, maybe you're not in the same league as the professional that is being targeted for. I buy the best equipment for my job, if I'm hiring someone I expect the same from them

Ends The video with him driving off with his A6300 on the roof his car. LOL Classic Kai.
Wow that's an insane setup pretty cool!
I'm glad he's on another channel and making videos and reviews as well as on his personal channel
I Love the C300 :D
The look of it! The taste of it! The smell of it! The texture!
C300m2 is definitely my favourite run and gun camera, love using it on more documentary type jobs.
Excellent choise. One of the best run and gun camera and really fun to use.
Image quality is EXCEPTIONAL in this camera - I can only wish I had one!
The color on this camera is top notch
I see Kai, I press like.
two things - one focus went out just as you were selling dual pixel focus and two i hope you immediately stopped the car of course knowing you had left the c300 in the mud AND the 6500 on the roof of your car 😉☕️🔥🎥
2:25 "Canon got that nailed. Nailed it!"
0:43 - Totally nailed it!
Gok Wan Mark 2, love your videos. Mix the fun with the informative. You should be a presenter for the BBC. One to watch.
Who in there right mind would use a c300 for a vlogging camera? at this point I lost hope.
killzone489 haha its pretty overkill for what Kai does. But its his money.
Why not? If you have the money xD
Seriously, blogging should be done with the smallest camera with the better battery life.
killzone489 Kai, for example 🌝
It's not even his money, CVS loan it to him.
Marques Brownlee
"Cheapest Canon 4k camera you won't complain about." I was so nodding my head in agreement when you said that...
It's canon, most people are going to complain no matter what they offer.
Kai.. you are awesome BUT you do know you can remove that battery plate from the C300 if you're using the larger batteries right?! You don't need to have it hanging out ready to get ripped off. Cheers.
"C-freehundred" - Kai's accent
I like the way he says 'Stel - Fee (stealthy)
Shaka and he says camera like "carra"
Shi Womino you and me both! 😊
Also because CVP need to sell more, and they haven't been doing too well?
Always enjoys Kai reviews!
when did the spoons logo go orange? 1:38??
"This is the ultimate vlogging camera!"
really?!
This camera is the reason why Canon's losing customers in droves. Not because this camera is bad, but because they're purposely leaving out/handicapping features from their cropped and full frame pro DSLRs to sell more of those C300s. Shame.

I got all the info I needed from this vid - with humour and discreet tech details too.
so: thanks!
My dream camera.... picture quality and skin tones are 😍😍
Why didn't you pick the C200 with a touchscreen?
wait Kai is on CVPTV now?
How do you handle image stabilization on that camera? Seems relevant for vlogging / shooting handheld
It's got that DOC look for sure.
loved this video, one of my favorites to watch!!
Hahahahaha...”Unless you prefer brown rice, or quinoa, Hipster!”

im watching this because my work JUST upgraded to these from the c300. For a certain reality show on NatGeo
Absolutely Amazing Colors.
Who funds all the new cameras you review in your videos?
is there a place to plug in the Rode video mic pro? (not the XLR jack)
All the slow motion in this video is shot incorrectly using the wrong shutter angle. The motion blur is much better if your shutter is at 180 degrees. It will mimic what a film camera does.
how wonderful ! see TIM often use it
Great video! What trigger grip handle are you using under the camera?
Where is the 4k 60fps in 10,000pounds camera? in 2017? this camera might be good, but marketing wise its an eternal mistake from canon.
Lol
Ss rdd If you want small 4k cameras with great autofocus, try the now 2+ yr old Samsung NX500 (super tiny) and NX1.

I heard and seen awesome footage from this camera. Sadly its not avilabe in india, Hope samsung will come up with new body in coming future.

Awesome camera!
I ABSOLUTELY FREAKED OUT when you drove off with the a6500 on top of your car...
Can you hold that on your shoulder without some sort of rig? Looks awfully short for that.
what a mix asian beauty at 6.39
The one problem I see... the scenes inside the airport didn't look too hot! Almost looking like an iPhone video.
Of course, the setup green scenes look great.
More great stuff Kai -- Subscribing!!!
try vlogging with an arri alexa and make a video about it
You forgot the a 6300 on the top of your car bro
Is the GorillaPod Focus or SLR-Zoom able to hold it without the legs gradually falling?
What is the brand name/model # of that little vblogging handle Kai uses on his c300 II?
wonder how many cameras shooting you in this video?
I wonder if that camera's CVPTV property or Tim's
Cause i remember Tim owned one since last year
Wait.. Do you think it's a good idea that camera can sent video to the Adobe drive?
I used to own a V.W GTI.... best car ever..
Nice gear. Not to be carried around for too long as I imagine or your arm will fall off before the end of the day. Beats working out at the gym.
whats the name of the second song??
Did they fix the coax cables to the monitor on this one, the original c300 ones always broke and were physically connected to it so you had to send the lot back to get repaired.
iNerdier yes both sides are completely removable
Whi not Sony PXW-FS5 or PXW-FS7 Mk II?
Because Canon pay them.
No because Canon's color science and dynamic range is king!.
Because their ergonomics and colors are crap, the two most important things in a camera...
colors are so close with tests and every camera has avantadge Canon has better erconmics and Sony better frame rates and better price of course
love kai! love tim!
damn Kai, @2:01
you really regretted taking that to the mall, didn't you?
LOL, the ultimate vanity camera for superior vlogging videos. Massive status if you have a camera like that ;-)
I love the fact that his camera's are more expensive than his golf v.
Anybody knows what the song is called in the background at the beginning?
The only problem with this camera is the lack of slowmotion, no 4k slowmo, and large crop for high fps.. :(
Fingers crossed they improve this when they refresh it! For now the FS7 is a great option if High FPS is your thing!! Jake
Damn it, was hoping to make the vlog, when Kia filmed me with my Canon setup.
CVPTV = new DRTV?
basically, except videography now
This isn't bad but I'd configure to be a smaller rig. That thing looks bulk and heavy af.
tbh, the reason why Kai's video quality become much much greater than before is because he find Tim Pan as his photographerlol
You know what else has 4K? My smartphone. Totally irony your soft focus at 2.49.... when talking about how good the AF is ... and don't try to tell me that was intentional......
Would you buy a red for u-tube? Love your videos keep up the good work.I am getting ready to buy a camera for network work would you suggets a red or the canon C-300 mark 11?

Does this do 4K 50/60p?
I'm getting real Top Gear Grand Tour vibes from these videos haha
Did he just drive off with the camera still on the hood of his car?
No he drove off with the camera on the roof of his car.
:D
Also he left his c300 in the middle of nowhere on a tripod. ;)
Is he using Sonys/Canon DSLR for B-Cam on Gimbal? Color matching works well?
You can see Kai's kit list here - cvp.com/profile/cvpgroup/kit/cvptv+2017+youtube+kit

I can't be the only thinking that the graded C-LOG off this camera looks terrible. Right? I mean the clips at 5:33 have terrible colors. These colors look like my Pansonic Gh4's in Cinelike-D
Sarcasm level:9000
Visually speaking, Hong Kong was a much better location; when are you going back?
4:29 i think that mommy might have been Daddy
who cares about the camera! Who is that beauty at 6:39?
That's a beahty to you if u drunk. They even put her 200% for skin smoothing effect to try cover up her bad skin
Hahahah
Why not the c200???
C200 has just been announced, it's not even shipping yet.
Who has money for this cam? What about lenses?
The size of that canon camera is rediculous .
Classic Kai. informative while being hilarious.
who could tell me the BGM its nice~
Hi! What is the handgrip you are using?
You can find the grip here - www.amazon.co.uk/Andoer-Platform-Pistol-Camera-Smartphone/dp/B00REG9WDE
We don't recommend using it with a C300II though!!!
Oh, really? Why? What do you recommend?
I haven't used it but I wouldn't trust my £7500 camera on a £5 handle from amazon. Personally I would suggest getting a small monopod instead of something like this for a C300. What camera are you looking to use something like this with? What movements are you wanting it to help you with? Jake
Thanks. That's helpful!
Can't you have RED raven for that price?
riso cece nope, not once you add all the accessories you need for it... plus you can't buy it now!! As they're waaaaaay back ordered
what is the product name of the bottom handle
You can find the grip here - www.amazon.co.uk/Andoer-Platform-Pistol-Camera-Smartphone/dp/B00REG9WDE
We don't recommend using it with a C300II though!!!
Thanks! do you have any tips on stabilizing the C300II without a gimble
In what kind of shooting situation? Jake
Well will you buy one :p
Does it do RAW?
Yes to any external recorder it can record in Canon Raw format or straight Cinema DNG on some recorders. However most, if not all, C300II users shoot in the internal XFAVC non-raw because it's simply pretty damn raw-like. 10/12bit, 4:2:2, 4K, no compression artefacts, all of the DR contained, i.e., all the reasons to shoot RAW are satisfied. Canon Raw doesn't add any more resolution, colour depth or dynamic range, but merely removes any compression artefacta in the form of blocking that might theoritically appear in XFAVC/H.264 But they don't on this specific camera due the high almost-non-compressed bit-rates.
reason 6, you can afford it.
But many of us, cannot
is it just me or does that thing look pretty massive especially with all the add-ons but Kai, who is a tiny asian man, seem to be holding it like its nothing ?
He's used to swinging around heavy cameras like they're tennis rackets instead of super expensive and fragile cameras, it's so funny.
Fun video! =)
