I turned on the subtitles. When Carl Barks was mentioned the subtitles suggested Karl Marx.

See if Copyright was shorter like it was supposed to be these characters would've belonged to the public a long time ago and Don could've helped make his movie by now

    • @Balnazzardi

So true...Its sad thing of affairs how Disney as company works....If they ever decided to make movie adaptation of Rosas work, you know they would just rebrand it as "Ducktales", change artstyle and perhaps censor/change some things....so i understand perfectly why Rosa doesnt want Disney to make movies out of his work, as sad as that is. In My understanding Rosa and Disney company never had easy relationship to begin with .
But ye If only there was someone smart enough on Disney to understand The brilliant of his stories and art but I doubt thats ever gonna happen, only they care about is what they think is best for American audience and their version of Scrooge in Ducktales is nowhere near as deep and complex as that of how Barks and Rosa created him to be

    • @RoyalKnightVIII
      @RoyalKnightVIII 4 года назад +4

@@Balnazzardi it's not about smarts it's about greed. Art is only made to make money and nothing else. This is why they don't pay their f*** authors a royalty in their work, to make even more money than they already have! Everytime you buy a Disney comic the authors get nothing, I don't know if it's changed recently but that's the case at companies like Archie in the US
And also for Copyright they changed the law so now they have a "measly" 95 years to make a profit. :/ So each individual comic story belongs to Disney for 95 years. They have that "short" amount of time to turn a profit. They can afford to pay out royalties :/
Our obligation is to make money, and to make money, it may be important to make history. To make money, it may be important to make art, or some significant statement. To make money, it may be important to win the Academy Award, for it might mean another ten million dollars at the box office” - Michael Eisner

@svin svin no you don't understand, copyright is not eternal. The constitution itself says that © lasts FOR A LIMITED TIME. When disney started out he had to manually register his works with the knowledge that they'll last for 28 years plus an optional 28.
Even now it's still limited to 95 for work for hire material. So the timer is almost up for steamboat willy and everything released that year

Great video! I am actually looking for recommendations. I love these old Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics and am looking for recommendations for comics similar to this. I am not a huge fan of Marvel/DC or any other superhuman/powers type comics and when I look online for comics I can only find info on that stuff.
I am looking for stuff like this:
    Bloom County (heard good things)
    Bone
    Calvin and Hobbes
    Donald Duck by Carl Barks
    Garfield
    Hate (heard good things)
Peanuts (enjoy, but would cost a fortune to own it all haha)
Pogo (heard good things want to get)
    The Complete Far Side
    Uncle Scrooge by Don Rosa
I must be missing some classics?!
I am interested in story, good characters, comedy and clever, I could care less about over the top violence, explosions, superpowers, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Pogo would be the easiest to recommend simply because Walt Kelly went through the Disney studios before creating Pogo so there is a connection here to this kind of work. Pogo is really great at wordplay which also reminds me a bit of Krazy Kat which is often at the top of different lists of Greatest comics ever.

Disney Masters Collector's Box Set, has some pretty good collections by the golden age writers for Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse characters.
Then you have other comics entirely:
Beetle Bailey - very relaxing and entertaining in my opinion
