since Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are very optimized games without upscalers it got me excited because I know that Doom The Dark Ages is going to be optimized without upscalers too. Also I remember companies like AMD said that your suppose to optimized your game first then add upscalers which means Doom The Dark Ages will get even more framerates from upscalers because of how amazing optimization is.
Dark Ages uses path tracing, of course an upscaler is going to be needed for that, and upscaling in 2025 is actually very good quality, often as good as if not better than "native" in enough games now for a 4K output. if you're at lower resolutions then this may be a different story, but 4K is the definitive output res for high fidelity gaming.
Great, with the new Multi Frame Gen, companies like Square and Capcom can now release games to be played natively at 15 FPS, and the frame generators will do the rest. How wonderful.
For 30 years consoles have targeted 30FPS and games were made for consoles while people think 240FPS native has always been the norm somehow and framegen suddenly made it worse.
You people are crazy. If you go back far enough in gaming history (early to mid '90s) we saw a similar transition. The transition from software rendering entirely on CPU to 3D accelerated rendering. By your logic, those developers back then were "cheating" as well. Don't like the slow software rendering? Just add in a 3D card and see your performance double and visual quality increase. This is no different. It's new tech that enables higher quality rendering and better performance. And it isn't going anywhere. And in another 10 or 15 years we'll likely see some OTHER drastic shift in the way rendering is handled
May not actually be a DLSS issue. Note that in plenty of games even in cutscenes there is some specular shimmering even when running native. Horizon Forbidden West is a prime and recent example.
I'm soooo tired of modern over-reliance on ugly interpolation technologies (TAA, DLSS, FG, RT De-Noising etc). I would much rather play games that look like Half-Life Alyx, with pre-baked quality RT-GI, perfect/crisp image quality and insane REAL framerates/resolutions... or why not CrytekEngines performant voxel-based GI, rather than the noisy-, temporally unstable-, smeary- interpolated mess that gamers need to endure with these new technolgies? It has been 6 years and by this point realtime RT should be viewed as a "failed experiment". It looks great in trailers and decent enough on a 4090, but plays terrible on your consumer friendly mid-range cards. Also, no game has truly transformed our enjoyment of gaming with these technologies, they have only reduced image quality and performance... In my opinion, realtime-RT has been a net negative for gamers. So stop the snake-oil AI sales tactics and focus on quality rendering and performance instead. THAT'S what gamers want.

They provide just enough vram to suffice for a year or 2 of modern games, but soon you will have no choice but to upgrade your video card as games quickly start to require more than you have.
