This is a tutorial in how to give tutorials. No messing about, straight to the point, no music. Perfect A1
I just want to thank you! I didn't understand why the paper kept on moving and my dad and uncle never told me about that. It really opened a door for me!
Straight forward and no fluff. Thank you!
Thanks so much. I worked 10 hours /day as a belt sander ... 43 YEARS AGO!! So, I needed a refresher to get me started safely. I appreciate your no nonsense explanation. 👍
Warm personality. Very good communicator. Safety conscious. This video was very helpful.
Sorry Cheryl but with respect I must disagree on a part of your comment .....Your backing cushion pad is seriously out of skew and will lead to very uneven sanding. Sorry man but you need to address that issue and also a cheap dust mask is not good for your lungs... my Dad died of COPD and you might too unless you sort out some decent dust extraction and a good mask. Vented goggles might be good too .. I unfortunately have to disagree with Cheryl Frakes below, your health and safety regime needs a darn good tune up my friend.
Thanks for this informative video, I've now decided to buy a belt sander for the farmhouse kitchen table.👍
Thank you! Currently building a bigger enclosure for my hammy and my saw job was so bad I have to get a sander to make the edges flush. Lol.
Just awesome. Lol. How did we live before RUclips. Saved me 30 minutes of aggravation. Cheers bro
Thank you. Nice pace & very clear. Greetings from UK.

Thank you. Great video I'll be using a sander in my next car video.
lol how did it went?
Oldskool, you are a legend!
Thanks for the video. I have a 2.2m*1m hardwood tabletop slab that I'm trying to sand with a belt sander similar size to yours. It probably will take a while to finish.
Thanks
Thank you now I can use mine .
Thank youuuuu!!

Nice 👍
I started to skip , then realized " I better listen to everything you say "!
Thanks a lot!
Translate sinhala i dont english
Nice video. I think I have the same sander, but dang, mine's waaaay louder.
Great tutorial...I learned about the tracking...thanks a LOT to you from my wallet!
Not many people on RUclips talked about the tracking stuff - which was extremely handy.
Thanks for the lesson, papi
What about sanding down an intricate design on a wooden picture frame?
Can you use a paper that is ruined on one side? Ie I didn’t Center the paper before starting so ruined the edge of my first belt. Note to self watch video before starting😂🤣
mantap
And, of course, don't try to lick the sanding belt while it's running too! 😆
n i ce sander btw~
Hi Shannon,
Cool video, just like the others. Presently I'll be installing engineered hardwood in my dinning room and living room. The floors had vinyl tiles on plywood and you can see a yellowish layer of the glue that was used to glue the tiles down. About a year ago I restored some cracked tiles and that glue is still visible and I'm having a hard time to remove it. I have some questions.
I live in an apartment and the floors are not leveled, so I will be using two materials to level off some concave spots on the floor: Bond Promoting Primer and Self-Leveling Underlayment (the powder kind you have to mix with water). The new floor installation method I will be using will be with glue.
Can I use the belt sander you describe in this video to sand off the old yellowish glue? It seems to come off easy. The size of the first room is 17' X 10'
What do you recommend to remove more recent glue. I began using a wood shaver, but the task is a bit tedious and strenuous.
Thanks man.
Belt sander should be fine if it is doing the job. Old glue can be hard to deal with. Scraping, sanding or even a power planer may work?
Sir, what the size of sand paper and legnth how to conmect or tie of a sand paper?
Nice basic instructions... But why do you have a 4” Platten on a 3” Sander...? You have “Lost” the Ability to go Flush with a Wall or Panel... I always try to Keep the Belt Tracking centered and Directly over the Front Wheel Too...
Rigid just released a cordless belt sander. So there ya go.
good to know!
So new at this. My sand paper keeps sliding all the way in to edge. How to I fix it to stay ??
I have been trying to buy a descent quality, four inch belt sander to do some deck board maintenance. THERE ARE NONE AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. These things have circuit boards WITH CHIPS and guess what... Taiwan doesn't seem to be supplying the CHIPS for belt sanders these days! If you have one of these, keep it in a Faraday cage and cross your fingers.
Cordless belt sanders run from $160-$400. Dewalt makes a great one
That's a loooot of money when you can get a good one for about $30.
No info on the dust bag ??😢
❤
What is the best type of sander for outdoor car port? Large area but it's vertical.
Orbital or pad sander
I have a question do you hold the sander and press it down to the wood Whilst you're sanding or do you put little to no pressure on it ?
little bit of pressure
@HouseImprovements ok thank you
Can you do a video on wider surface like, worktop or something? How much (in MM) material can it remove fast? and how fast?
with a course belt (50 grit) they can remove a lot of wood quickly. Depending on the finish you need when completed you would use the course belt to get the major work done then use dinner and finer belts to reduce the sanding marks and scratches.
I see. Thanks for that. I am thinking of using 40 grit and then use my orbital sander with finer grit to make it smooth. Here is a question: If you were to use a electric planer or hand planer on a typical size worktop would they remove material faster than a belt sander (with 40 grit belt)?
Can i use this on my outside wood step and deck?
Sure
Why you covered the brand of it. Btw good Makita Sander!
Cause they need to pay him.
wOw your sander is quite quiet..
What’s a belt sander purpose?
would a belt sander be your first choice if there are two pieces of wood joined that need to be flattened out. I am cutting off nose of stair tread.
Yes depending on how much needs to be removed. If it's an 1/8" or less then a belt sander makes sense. If it's more than another pass with a circular saw or even a router may be my first choice.
I just bought the mastercraft belt sander. I used one 80 grit belt to rough sand the whole project. Then I went to 120, and I broke five belts within a couple minutes. What would be the cause of this?
That is strange? Maybe they tracked crooked and cut themselves on the edge of the sander?
👍🏽
Hi, can you use a Belt Sander to remove the Gelcoat on a boat?
Never, you will sand right through it fast. I would use an orbital sander
@@HouseImprovements Thank you. I am trying to strip the old gelcoat on my 17foot boat and apply Kiwi Grip. What grit do you recommend for this?

What happens if you put the belt on backwards (compared to the way the arrow shows)?
I broke two belts within half an today on a brand new Black and Decker sander. I didn't realize belts have arrows inside for direction; could that be why they broke so easily?
There is more chance of the belt coming apart if used in the reverse direction because of how they are joined together.
@@HouseImprovements They both came apart at the connection, so that could've been it. Thanks!
My belt keeps traveling to the inner edge of the sander and fraying. Please help!
Adjust the adjustment knob
Just wondered what sander you would use on a deck of 300 sq ft.
This or a orbital sander would be fine
If I have an old skil one and it doesnt have a lever what should I do?
Usually there is a knob on the side that releases the tension and tracking to remove the belt.
@@HouseImprovements its a push system. You push it against the floor and install the belt. Probably nowadays any sander is a knob instead. Thanks for the help
My BD sander does not have a
tension lever. Help.
There will be some kind of adjustment knob or screw I would think? We may be able to help on the forum.www.house-improvements.com/forums/
You mentioned you wouldn't use this to sand your hardwood floors. Did you see Matthias Wandel's latest vid? You're gonna need to update your belt sander video, lol!
Well I had to go watch his video and I think he really proved my point. That was painful to watch! lol
I agree! That looked like it took wayyy too long! But you gotta give him credit for his creativity.
Should the front roller have a lip?
No both rollers are smooth
@@HouseImprovements my roller is smooth however the roller frame has a lip on the inside that is slightly higher than the roller. This forces the belt to sit on roller proper. In normal use the front roller does not touch sanding surface. If you press down on sander the lip touches surface and can leave mark. Ever see this?
My sand paper isn’t turning but wheels are?
You either have the wrong size of paper or need to adjust the tension of the sander.
I've never used a belt sander. It has to remove way more surface than a palm sander.
A belt sand generally will remove material faster yes.
Good for racing to just kidding
lol, wanna compete?
I will not talk about how to use a tool , put a clip and your own skill / exp. together ! I would like to say if we have a planing tools 82mm , why idiots still make a belt sanders at 75 mm !? Forget about them ! Take a 100mm ! Take care , how sander was construct ! Belt drive should be direct from motor to main sanding belt propulsion drum ! Puley's bearings should be in Alu housing ! Tension which was made by belt drive is strong , so , if the puley's are in plastic housing , all will go wrong ... Belt sander is a delicate tool so if you , people want to use it for a long time even , like a DIY , buy a pro machine ! Newer mind about expense , what the f... , food is expensive !
@@shekinass Nah he is a Mexican with English as his second language. Hi is saying get a makita rather than a shit ryobi because the mak has steel drums, gears, and bearings. It's 3 times the price but worth it.
I actually got injured with a belt sander before I know it really hurts don’t be an idiot with it
