Sorry Cheryl but with respect I must disagree on a part of your comment .....Your backing cushion pad is seriously out of skew and will lead to very uneven sanding. Sorry man but you need to address that issue and also a cheap dust mask is not good for your lungs... my Dad died of COPD and you might too unless you sort out some decent dust extraction and a good mask. Vented goggles might be good too .. I unfortunately have to disagree with Cheryl Frakes below, your health and safety regime needs a darn good tune up my friend.

    Hi Shannon,
Cool video, just like the others. Presently I'll be installing engineered hardwood in my dinning room and living room. The floors had vinyl tiles on plywood and you can see a yellowish layer of the glue that was used to glue the tiles down. About a year ago I restored some cracked tiles and that glue is still visible and I'm having a hard time to remove it. I have some questions.
I live in an apartment and the floors are not leveled, so I will be using two materials to level off some concave spots on the floor: Bond Promoting Primer and Self-Leveling Underlayment (the powder kind you have to mix with water). The new floor installation method I will be using will be with glue.
Can I use the belt sander you describe in this video to sand off the old yellowish glue? It seems to come off easy. The size of the first room is 17' X 10'
What do you recommend to remove more recent glue. I began using a wood shaver, but the task is a bit tedious and strenuous.
    Thanks man.

    • @HouseImprovements

with a course belt (50 grit) they can remove a lot of wood quickly. Depending on the finish you need when completed you would use the course belt to get the major work done then use dinner and finer belts to reduce the sanding marks and scratches.

I see. Thanks for that. I am thinking of using 40 grit and then use my orbital sander with finer grit to make it smooth. Here is a question: If you were to use a electric planer or hand planer on a typical size worktop would they remove material faster than a belt sander (with 40 grit belt)?

Yes depending on how much needs to be removed. If it's an 1/8" or less then a belt sander makes sense. If it's more than another pass with a circular saw or even a router may be my first choice.

Forget about them ! Take a 100mm ! Take care , how sander was construct ! Belt drive should be direct from motor to main sanding belt propulsion drum ! Puley's bearings should be in Alu housing ! Tension which was made by belt drive is strong , so , if the puley's are in plastic housing , all will go wrong ... Belt sander is a delicate tool so if you , people want to use it for a long time even , like a DIY , buy a pro machine ! Newer mind about expense , what the f... , food is expensive !
